Can you flash any ROM? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can you flash any custom ROM made for the Nexus 6P or does it have to match the current "build number" I have on my phone. My phone is currently build number MDB08L...does that affect what ROM you can use or only the kernel?
Thanks!

Any stock version you pick will be updated OTA to the latest version, so don't worry about which one you should choose.

[Firmware] Flashable JSS15R 3,15 Bootloader&Firmware update

For those of us who are rooted, don't want to update parts of the OS, who want to stay on an older versions of updated OS files, or just are on a custom ROM, here is a flashable of the firmware updates (which include bootloader).
This updates your bootloader to version 3.15.
Freeza, you rule... Just saying

Nice work!
Quick question for you, will the bootloader and firmware updates persist after custom ROM updates or will I need to reflash each time?
for example, I'm running CarbonRom at the moment which is based on JSS15Q - I've flashed this zip without any problems but will I need to reflash it when I install the next nightly?
Cheers
Macca
It will persist. No need to reflash.

I should be more clear, in the example you gave, it will persist, but if you do something that will flash the bootloader like factory restore or its updates, the bootloader could change

Yeah, I should have been clearer as well - I was basically checking that custom roms don't flash the bootloader (I'd assumed that a factory restore / ota update would)
Nice to see ya here Freeza!
I am currently on [JSS15Q] - CleanROM 1.6 I am wondering if this would work with my current rom as a dirty flash? anyone tired while on CleanRom 1.6?

Does firmware mean the audio driver, sensor driver, wifi driver etc?

No, it means bootloader, resource power manager, trusted zone.
Quick queastion , I was on JSS15J when stock, flashed ROM that says now JLS36C. If I flash this will it erase everything and do I even need to? Thanks for the help.
It won't erase any user data. Whether you want to flash is up to you. You'll get it automatically if you wait for jls36g ota.
Why is the 3.15 bootloader not available as .img file in the google recovery as always? I normally flash bootloader ONLY by using fastboot?!
Awesome!
I flashed this and my dead gold fish came back to life!
You're the man, OP!

Will this work on stock? I can't get the ota to install.
Still JSS15Q after flashing?

After successful flashing this zip-file on my rooted JSS15Q version with TWRP the Android version is still JSS15Q. That's right? I expected JSS15R.

If you want the 3.15 bootloader .img to flash in fastboot, I added it to the download section of this thread:

This is just the bootloader that came with 15R. If you want 15R, download and flash the full rom package.

MultiRom with Stock and RR.

So, I have got an idea. After flashing my RR CustomRom, I realized I can go for next step and do a MultiRom Adventure. I was wondering if it's possible to flash a STOCK Rom besides the current RR CustomRom and have both of them into my MultiRom Recovery.
What do you think ?
If you think it's possible and OK, please give me link to STOCK Rom preferably 5.1.1 international. My BL is unlocked and I am rooted ofc.

Need Some Help For Install Franco Kernel

Hey guys,
i have custom rom nexus pure
and i want to install franco kernel.
do i need to do somthing special before the install?
like wipe?
and another thing,in the post about the kernel it explain what to do according to your current verison of the kernel
"
If you're on a 100% stock device (stock rom + stock Kernel) or already on r8 or newer disregard the messages below and just flash - if not:
* If you're on stock rom + r7, or older, you should be flashing stock boot.img first, then r8, or newer;
* If you're on a custom rom + r7, or older, you should dirty flash the rom (or extract its boot.img and fastboot flash it) and then r8, or newer;
"
and i have just custom rom and havent the kernel so im not sure what to do.
thank you for helping
Are you with your custom rom kernel ?
If yes, then just flash fk and root (if you want to).
Profit

In your case, just flash FK r10. No need to flash SuperSU, Pure Nexus is pre-rooted.

if you took 2 minutes to read the installation intructions for the Pure Nexus ROM, you wouldve had your answer.

my goodness... I literally have to spoonfeed you the information? I've given you absolutely everything you need to find the info and learn how to install it yourself.
Click either install instruction (dirty or clean) and READ.

so you mean that i need to do these steps
1a. Download the latest Pure Nexus zip (pay attention to the version you choose) and your custom kernel if you have one onto your phone.
1b. If you are on the CMTE variant, it is a good idea to set your theme back to stock before dirty flashing. If you don’t and your theme looks wonky after flashing, try using this app.
2. Boot into TWRP and make a backup (remove any lock screen security before this, optional but HIGHLY recommended).
3. Wipe cache and dalvik cache (optional).
4. Flash Pure Nexus zip.
5. Update your vendor image (only need to do this once per build number).
6. Flash your custom kernel (optional).
7. Reboot and profit.
just with the kernel zip?
and if the answer is yes i need to update the vendor image again? i already did it when i install the rom.
thank for the help man it mean to me alot
No. all you need to do is go into twrp and install the kernel
THose are the install insructions for when you update the rom either via dirty or clean.
since you already have the ROM installed, just install the kernel in twrp and reboot.

You must flash the firmware requested by the O.P only if yours is different.
Version = or > good
Version < to flash

No particular problem but sometimes you will have to flash the complete rom.
Your phone is old and AOSP roms usually use latest firmware except sometimes CN firmware.
