Before the 6.2.1 update, I was able to connect to the Fire just fine. There was the occasional issue with it killing the USB port on my PC & then I would have to reboot it in order for ADB to see the Fire again. Now I can't get ADB to talk to the Fire at all, even though it shows up in the Device Manager & I'm able to connect the storage up to Windows 7 just fine. As a frame of reference, I'm able to get my Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY to be seen by ADB.
Does anyone know how to get ADB fixed on my Fire & is there a way to push an insecure build of ADB to it? Thanks.

BurritoRoot causes the normal adbD to behave as an unsecure one, but if your not seeing the kindle under adb devices then you have PC side problems likely.
I figured it might be PC side. I've tried everything I could after updating the Android SDK. Updating everything with what's needed for the Fire to be seen hasn't worked. I'm a bit at a dead end for ideas... I tried even using the USB3 controller on my mobo but no luck either.
Edit: Fixed!
I uninstalled the Kindle Fire from the Device Manager & got it reinstalled. It now works perfectly with ADB. I'm in the process of rooting it as I type this.
I have the same problem.
However, I have 2 fires, one running CM7 and the other 6.2.1.
The PC recognizes the one running CM7 but not 6.2.1.
So, I don't think it is the PC.
No matter what I do, adb and fastboot, device not found.
Can not access the one with 6.2.1.
Does not show up in device manager.
I have read and try various things from xda, Rootzwili and Liliputing.
follow this video thats wht helped me get past that part ur on
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KapnjR89ICA&feature=player_embedded
u have to make sure u update the drive for ur kindle with the driver from sdk
this is also helpful tooo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409120
What worked for me was following this guide up to step 3. Then, with the device manager it launches, i deleted ALL my adb/android devices and then I let windows re-install the driver when I plugged the kindle (you may need to choose the driver manually), then I could finally access fastboot/adb via cmd..
Solved problem, Thank You.
I have many drivers on my PC, Motorola, Samsung, HTC and Android.
I noticed on one boot the Kindle was listed as Samsung Android Phone.
I uninstalled the Samsung drivers.
Connected the Kindle. All is fine.
Connected my Samsung SGS II, it found the drivers.
Crimson, thanks for sharing your fix of uninstalling then reinstalling. Worked for me.
hi, i would like to apologize in advance, i am new to adb so i'm not sure if i'm even doing it right, but i have successfully rooted and installed cm7, after much googling. i did it a while ago and used the clockwork mod method. i would like to replace it with twrp but the only way i have found to do it is by using adb or the kindle fire utility, which if i understand correctly uses adb. the only problem with that is that i can't get adb to recognize it. i'm assuming it's because i don't have the proper drivers for the "cm7 kindle" because i install them for the stock kindle. please help me. i have no idea how to fix this. thanks
edit: ok guys i'm really sorry, i'm an idiot, i forgot that i had turned off usb debugging. turned it back on, worked perfectly. again sorry.
I'm trying to run my app while debugging on my Nexus 7, but it always loads in the AVDs instead of on the tablet.
Here's my checklist of things I've done:
Went into the settings on the Nexus 7 and enabled USB Debugging.
Installed the official ASUS Nexus 7 drivers. When I connect it to my PC, Windows 7 64 bit pops up and says the Nexus 7 is connected and the drivers loaded successfully.
Connected it to my PC (Windows 7 64 bit) and it pops up and saying the Nexus 7 is connected and the drivers loaded successfully.
However Eclipse doesn't detect it at all. The app loads the AVD instead of it. And if I go to Run As->Run Configurations->Target, it's not listed. If I select Launch on all Compatible Devices/AVDs and choose Active Devices and then try to run, I get the error "No active compatible AVD's or devices found. Relaunch this configuration after connecting a device or starting an AVD".
The app is set to be compatible with Android 4.1.
Suggestions?
The only way I've ever gotten it to work is switching the 7 from a media device to a camera.

Strange. Unfortunately it still doesn't work for me. Same symptoms. Thanks though! Any other ideas?
I found I had to fiddle with the drivers a bit to get the proper adb connection. Check Device Manager and make sure it shows up under Android Phone->Android ADB Interface. If you see anything else you'll need to uninstall the offending driver and reinstall.

Ehhh...Crap. You're right. Device Manager shows Other Devices -> Nexus with a caution sign on it. Weird cause when I plug it in it'll ask me if I want to transfer photos and it'll mount it as a drive and everything....grrrrrr. This might be annoying.
I'm trying to remember exactly what I did to get the right driver to install. I think you need to uninstall the all drivers being used and then make sure that USB debugging is turned on in the Nexus before plugging it back in. I used the Wugfresh toolkit which includes tools to check what drivers are lurking around in your system.
Finally got it. Turned out, the driver files were no good. I got them from a link to Asus's site from another thread. I googled their site for different driver files and found the correct ones:
http://www.asus.com/Tablet/Nexus/Nexus_7/#download
It should be a zip file with USB in the title.
Thanks for the help!

I can confirm this, I switched it from MTP to PTP and installed the driver, and everything is working now. It's showing up in the ADB list.

Download the asus drivers and extract the zip file. Plug in your Nexus 7. Go to Device Manager -> the device (might be listed as an android device) -> Update driver. Browse to the extracted folder.
On the Nexus 7, make sure USB debugging is enabled. And, when it connects, change it from being connected as a media device to instead being a camera device.
Thanks. I ended up being able to do it with the one click root program it helped me get the drivers super happy. Now my galaxy nexus and nexus 7 are rooted. Haven't had something rooted since my Samsung galaxy s fascinate
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Been at this fir 3 days. Installed, uninstalled drivers. Got ASUS drivers. Switched from Debugging on to off, then off to on. used Camera, used Media....The closest I come to seeing Nexus7 in Explorer or Computer is INTERNAL STORAGE/DCIM OR CAMERA.
I am unable to see any files, no matter what I do. So, now I must ask this: Must I be rooted to see android files? I doubt it, but I never used a Nexus before. Quite frankly, this tablet is awful for use with a PC. I need help-can u help me, pls.

Can I ask for your help guys? My Nexus 7 v1 is stuck on boot loop (either stuck on google screen or sometimes would proceed up to the nexus animation screen) and I've been trying to fix it with the Nexus Root Toolkit (NRT). I just have problem proceeding with the steps since the toolkit advices me to enable my device's USB DEBUGGING (open device , go to settings, then developer options etc) which I CANNOT POSSIBLY DO COS AGAIN, NEXUS IS JUST STUCKED ON BOOT LOOP.
Can you suggest OTHER ways I can enable USB Debugging in Nexus 7? I would greatly appreciate your help.
Hello,
Just an average XDA noob speaking here. Reason i'm creating this topic is because I'm having problems getting the ADB composite drivers right. Previously I've rooted a HTC Hero without any problems, but with my Huawei U8800 Ideos X5 I just can't fix it, I searched in all corners of the Internet. Below are my specs.
- Android 2.3.5
- Unbranded
I've also tried to root with SuperOneClick and by replacing the boot.img, but I can't get it to work because of the drivers.
When I get to recover mode (the pink/purple screen) it isn't showing me the IMAGE folder on my computer. Also tried to install new drivers for the ADB composite by using the H:/Mobile Partner disk on my phone but that isn't helping either. It says their isn't any new hardware found in the folder, but as you can see on the image, there are still exclamation marks. I Also uninstalled the drivers a few times and tried to re-install them but that isn't working neither. Firstly my phone was recognized as an Other device > Ethernet Controller in the device manager screen. But that was possible to solve by browsing to the H:\MobilePartner\Drivers folder.
By the way, when in recovery mode plugged in the computer, it shows me two drivers called "HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES". I can't seem to find a good driver for those, they also show the !-mark.
Any help will be appreciated! :good:

What's the best way to do that? Just delete them from the device manager screen and letting them re-install automaticly by the phone? Or just download drivers from the internet and install it manually?

if u r doing manual driver installation, then its best to disallow auto-installation by windows..
delete all instances from device manager, or u may use an application called "USBDeview" to remove the usb drivers.. and i think this second way is probably doing it more cleanly..

Sorry for the late update, forgot about the topic... I threw away all the drivers, got the pinkpurple screen and connected to my pc. It's now missing this drivers when connected, Windows can't install them itself. Check the printscreen below.

Ok ty, I started over, deleted all the drivers and let Windows install the drivers themself. Still not working. I find it very strange why Android Composite ADB Interface pops up 4 times in the device manager... As you can see, he installed one by himself >> https://(w)(w)w.dropbox.com/s/lttgky3qozhraf9/kak4.png
I'll try your method.
I'm having an issue with file transfer where my computer can't 'see' the phone when an AOSP ROM is installed.
File transfer is fine when mounting in recovery, also when I have OOS installed, so it isn't a hardware problem.
I've gone through the forum searching for a solution, and I have:
Changed the default USB configuration (under Developer options) to MTP
Uninstalled the phone from Device Manager on my computer
Tried installing OnePlus drivers to my computer
Tried installing Qualcomm drivers to my computer
Can anyone suggest a solution? I'm desperate to get this sorted as I can't tolerate OOS any longer, I just want a cleanish build of Android with no OnePlus rubbish in it!
I join your quest man... Im looking for the solution for this problem since i have installed my first AOSP rom on OP5... Never find the solution, i'm curious for this too... Now im on PureFusion and MTP of course isnt working... so i use recovery for file transfer (which is annoying) or the WiFi server (which is slow and isnt "operations" friendly)
In the same time cant understand why my nexus 6p with PureNexus is fully working in MTP but the oneplus 5 nope

I know it's windows fault because when it have too many drivers to manage for the same thing it goes crazy.. but even removing every single driver (ADB and Android related) it doesn't work.. I'm looking in a solution on the Linux build called "forget windows use Linux" since I can't completely remove windows 10
I had same issue in Linux
Typically, issue is not the ROM
1) check the phone get set to "file transfer" when connected, you generally have option to chose
2) plugging to a usb in chain to other switches it was not work, connected directly to a usb MB port, worked.
Has anyone tried to connect their phone to a PC for Helium?
My phone connects just fine to my windows 10 laptop and I can move files no trouble but Helium never connects to the phone.
I have tried MTP and PTP but no joy, the drivers must be OK as I see the phone in file explorer and can move files, I have tried both the chrome app and the Helium program but neither connect.
I got my SMS, call logs, apps, WiFi, WhatsApp all moved from the old phone and just want to move the app data from a couple of apps.
Any ideas for this phone

You have USB debugging checked in developer options?
And Helium app on phone running?
There is also a PC program instead of Chrome extension for Helium if you rather
First thing to check is your phone is showing up on the PC when you plug it in by USB, if it is not recognised it is probably a driver issue.
Forget Helium at first, plug in on USB and sellect transfer files from the notification area of the phone, you should then see your phones storage on the PC, this will confirm the drivers are OK, the phone is OK and a good connection.
If thats OK you should be able to run Helium on BOTH pc and phone then change the warning in the phones notification area to "MIDI" (the last choice on the list) and it should be good to go.

I've tried eerything I could think of.
- Uninstalling both Helium and the universal adb drivers, then rebooting.
- Reinstalling both, then rebooting.
- Manually deleting both, then rebooting.

Problem with using Helium for redmi 6
I tried everything but my computer still says it can't find the drivers.
Because of this I can't get helium working
Any idea on how to enable PTP. I have developer options on.
---------- Post added at 07:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:24 AM ----------
I had trouble getting helium to work myself. then I notice in the notification section I can select PTP (even though I already enabled it in the developers option). and it work. I disconnect and tried again and it failed.
From the notification section (the menu you see when you tap and top and swipe down) I just click "android system" and keep selecting between "charging this device" and "transfer photos (PTP)". I just keep doing this and helium miraculously worked.
If you have time, can anyone shed any light into this.
I wasn't crazily constantly switching between PTP and charging. And in the debug mode it was already set to "PTP".
I'm happy I got it working but annoy I don't know how.

Just like my instructions above lol.
Hello, I am using a Xiaomi RedMi note 4 with MIUI 10. I had heilum working on the phone for some time, but after restart I couldn't use it no more.
I searched a bit, but nothing seemed to work. I tried a few things along with turning USB debugging for security reasons on (hope this is not important, but i'll mention it anyway).
While I stabled across the xdadeveloper's review of this app on YpuTube, they mentioned "as long as you don't reboot", so I tried reinstalling it.
After reinstalling it I seemed to have the same issues(not recognizing the actual mode the usb is configured eg PTP, MTP), only this time when I went to the settings the phone was on MTP and after I changed it to PTP (it might have been MIDI, I am not sure) it worked. It recognized the connection to the PC and let me proceed.
Hope this helps in any way.
Note: I didn't need to reinstall anything to the PC, just having the chrome extension and the adb drivers seemed enough.
I managed to get it to work by revoking device access from the develpoer options and restarting all apps over again and made sure that the USB cable is in PICTURE mode. After wiggling it several times it worked on 2 phones ... yet then i had a problem with Helium unable to backup and restore all my apps only some...
