So I'm trying to allow permissions in Marshmallow, but it doesn't matter which setting is active. Example: in the Facebook messaging app, I try to post a picture on a group chat. It says I need to active a permission to allow it. I proceed to allow it, but then it says I need to allow draw over other apps. So I go to settings, and click on the toggle to turn it on and then go back to the app. When I go to allow the permission again, it says the same thing and that I need to toggle the permission to draw over other apps. No matter if the toggle is on or off it says the same thing. Am I missing something?

I got this notification on the notification bar that said,
Permission Requested
for account [email protected]

When you open it, you see the top section saying:
Android System
The listed applications are requesting permission to access the Google Calendar login credentials for account [email protected] from Google. Do you wish to grant this permission? If so, your answer will be remembered and you will not be prompted again.

The [email protected] is obviously replaced with my own gmail account.
Then there are two large buttons, Allow and Deny followed by a long list of applications, many of which I don't use nor want to allow.
It doesn't give you the ability to select which apps to allow, just all or none. There any way to undo this if I say allow and then deny the ones I don't? Seems rather strange way to ask for permission. Why bother if you can't select which ones you want.

I have an Evo 4G and was prompted with the same thing. I am tempted to click Deny. Some of the apps have no business getting to Google Calendar.
Anyone have insight into what this is about? Why would this appear?
I got the same request this morning on my Sprint Hero with rooted 2.1. I did click Deny, because there were applications on the list that I don't want to grant calendar access to. The notification always comes back within a few minutes.
I have AT&T Mark The Spot installed on my phone. It's designed to be an easy way to report problems to AT&T.
I noticed it uses excessive permissions a few months ago.... An average app having about 7 permissions... "Permission Dog" reports 21 permissions including:
Access Coarse Location
Access Fine Loacation
Access Network State
Access Wifi State
Change Wifi state
Battery Stats
Read Owner Data
Read Phone State
Wake Lock
Receive Boot Completed
Read SMS
Modify Phone State
Change Network State
Get Tasks
Read Logs
Receive WAP push
Send SMS
Persistant Activity
Vibrate
Read Contacts
Last night my phone would not go to sleep and today I received a phone call and the app force closed itself. This would suggest that there's quite a bit of monitoring that my phone is subject to by AT&T by simply having this app installed.
If you want to report a network problem, install the app, then uninstall it after reporting. I just wanted to get the word out.
why not load lbe privacy guard and disable most of the permissions it is asking for?

My concern isn't how to disable it's normal operation. My concern is it's normal operation is monitoring everything. It's obviously doing alot more then it is marketed to do.
If I receive a text message, I get a notification in the top bar. If i receive a second text the notification disappears from the top bar and I have no way of knowing that I have messages until I open the app. This is extremely frustrating especially since I am away from my phone often at work.
Anyone have any ideas ?
Sounds like an app causing a conflict... does it do it in Safe Mode?
To enter Safe Mode, press power until the Shutdown confirmation pops up, then long press the notification and acknowledge Safe Mode... the next boot will not load any user applications in memory, just basic Android services, test it there and see if it is still a problem, if not you have an app that is conflicting, if it is still there I would try a factory reset and test again.
It does not occur in safe mode. How would I go about figuring out which app is causing the conflict

This is a carrier SMS (text message) issue? Remove any app you can that deals with SMS or texting except the stock app, that is where I would start. Or any app that monitors notifications. Unfortunately, this is a trial and error process. Do you have a lot of apps installed?
Either that or factory reset, then add apps one at a time until it breaks.
Yes, unfortunately, I do have a lot of apps installed. How would I go about seeing what apps deal with notifications or SMS. Thanks

Honestly, I don't know... Do you have lots of texting apps?
Just whatsapp
Any other ideas anyone ? It is extremely frustrating.
Test to see if WhatsApp is your conflict. Uninstall it long enough to see if it is the culprit. If it is and you want to keep using it, I don't know how to fix it, but at least you know more precisely where to start.
It is not WhatsApp causing the issue. Any other ideas ? I'm surprised no one else has had this issue. It is extremely frustrating.
I am still having this problem. I also get "unfortunately messaging has stopped." When receiving messages from one particular contact.
There are other apps that can do texting and act as a messaging app...I.e Facebook messenger, Hangouts, Skype, etc. The are also apps with access to messaging which you can find on permissions. As stated by acejavelin, you will have to start doing trial and error as this appears to be an app conflict if safe mode works. The easiest first step is to deny permissions to messaging and see if you can find the culprit.
Are you rooted by chance? I'm not asking you to root if you are not and I'm not claiming root is the issue. Try denying messaging app permissions first one by one. You can find this in Settings, Apps, tap the gear icon in top right, App permissions, SMS. If toggling one doesn't fix the issue, toggle the next one off. Just make sure to leave the stock messaging app on. If the text notifications problem persists, report back.
I'm not rooted. I am going to try this today. Thank you.
So I tried this and went through each app and denied permission of SMS to each one, one by one. The same thing happened everytime no matter what.

Denying permissions was an idea to try and make as painless as possible. The only options left for you to try are the most painful. However, as was asked once already, could this be something to do with your carrier (or your friends). While you could start uninstalling apps one by one, I would recommend doing a factory reset and start fresh when prompted (don't let Google automatically restore your apps). If upon a fresh install and update of system apps your message notifications don't work correctly, then it is a carrier issue most likely which you would need to take up with them. If message notifications work properly, then start installing apps one by one and testing as you go. Whether you uninstall or install one by one, it is not a quick process, but with a factory reset, you get a refreshed phone.
Whenever my location is on, and I go to put it off, everytime Secure Folder screen comes up and asks for authentication.
Before authentication I get a popup saying
"No Location access
Device location for all apps is turned off, and you may not be able to locate your device if it's lost."
I don't know why it is happening all of a sudden, I don't even remember any changed settings.
Can someone please help
Same here.
Same here. Really frustrating. I currently uninstalled it because of this bug...

Search for 'Device Administrators' (or just 'administrators') in settings, and turn off 'Secure Folder'. This is a built in feature of the rom, wherein secure folder is added as a device administrator by default and it will ask for location every time.

This did not resolve my issue. Secure Folder was not a device administrator.
Problem solved!

I did what linom suggested and it turns out Lookout was the issue! I have T-Mobile and it comes pre-installed on new devices as far as I've seen but I'm not sure if other mobile carriers do the same. They had updated Lookout recently and it looks like there was a "better missing device functionality" that may have been added or changed or something. It was the only one that was checked off as a device admin and I turned it off. Problem was immediately solved. Weird that it was triggering the secure folder to open but this definitely fixed the issue.

Did you add any app in the secure folder that requires location access? Check the permissions for each app. Also, try uninstalling and reinstalling it again as a last resort. Maybe its a bug. I am not able to replicate the issue. Can you share a screen grab?

I hadn't added any apps but I did notice some Samsung apps in secure folder required location permission so I revoked. Let's see if that fixes it
Nope still was happening. I uninstalled secure folder

I was going to attach an image to a message and stupidly checked the Don't Ask Again option when navigating to the gallery (this should already be default location as with 11). Now I'm locked out of selecting anything else (obviously) and stuck in the gallery of photo & download folders. Is there somewhere I can look or file to edit to undo my oops?
I'm pretty sure that if you clear data of the messaging app it'll "forget" you ticked that box - but also any other settings you made so far.
Something tells me it'll forget my sms/MMS log as well.
Go to Settings and Apps, then find the app you chose then click Clear defaults. Not on the messaging app, but the accidentally chosen gallery or file manager. This only clears the default selection, not data. This also clears default selection for everything else what this app was used for, so you'll need to reselect them again.
Thanks much!
