I use facebook photos for most of my contacts, but when some of them updates their contact picture, it won't update in the contacts until some time after (don't know how much time actually).
I found out that Facebook cache wouldn't also update (if I go into the app and select 'Friends', their pictures are still old).
Is there something I could do to force a photo update? I don't want to use syncmypix because it doesn't center the photo in the face like Facebook does.

In syncmypix, you can crop the images.

Last time I tried it cropped the center of the image, so a full-body picture would crop the torso of the person. Facebook autodetects the face and make a picture with it.

Just tried it. Didn't do anything. Probably it takes the Facebook app cache that shows the same old pictures.
EDIT: Now it DID work by adding another layer of syncronization with Facebook and auto-setting the picture as default. But this also suffers from a crop problem. While the facebook thumbnails is perfectly cropped around the face in a square picture, this one is not. So in the square pictures used in the default stock rom of O1 are a little wrong-cropped.
Probably because the pictures they use is the original picture, not the thumbnail. The perfect way for O1 would be to use the thumbnail.
It also adds a painfully high time of synchronization even if I tell it to sync only once a week. And whein it syncs again it takes an awfully high amount of time syncing again.
EDIT2: The best way to do this is still to clear Facebook cache and data, open facebook app, re-login and then select the Friends page. It takes a while to re-create the cache, but this seems still the best way to do that.
I have none of my picasa Albums selected of "view offline" however if I turn wireless off. I can still view the pictures. I plan to upload alot of pics to Picasa and don't want to fill my nexus up. I also noticed that my nexus 7 became laggy after I started putting pictures up on Picasa. I just want to make sure that it is copying all my pics down to the nexus.
Have you found an answer to this yet? I also have been trying to figure out the same thing. I thought at first it was just the thumbnails but once I view an album the pictures seem to remain cached despite my offline setting.
Isn't this to do with G+ instant upload???? Go to accounts in settings Google, then look at what syncs turn off Google pictures and instant upload and anything else that resembles g+ go to apps All scroll to gallery clear data and reboot and they'll be gone

Yes, from what I've gathered it is the G+ instant and Google Pictures sync that adds the "picassa" albums to the gallery. I actually wanted my picasa albums in my gallery, however as I have over 100 albums I wanted them visible and accessible when online (to save space). I only want to chose a few select albums (kids, work stuff, etc) to make "available offline" but so far it appears as soon as I view an album it saves the full images in cache and still shows up when I'm offline, I don't want my storage getting eaten up by pictures that I only plan to view when online.
Hi Guys,
I sold my S4 and now I own this powerful device since one week. But there is a problem for which I did not find a solution yet. I have high res contact pics in my google account but the G2 does only sync low res pics which makes me sick. I searched for a solution but did not find any. Does someone also have this problem? On my S4 everything was fine with the pics.
Thanks!
I think the only way is to 're do the pictures

I already tried this... using a new high res pic for a contact (on gmail)... but g2 syncs the pixel variant....
I can't figure this out either. Some contacts it seems to use a higher res than others regardless of the source image. Something wierd going on there.

this has to do with gmails api supporting low res pictures only.
The res was increased somewhere in Android but not in gmail that results in this phenomenon when resyncing.
A workaround is haxsync that can replace the pictures on the phone with another source such as facebook
Android supporting high res but gmail yet to catch up?
Something strange is going on here.. this gotta be raised to Google methinks..
Not really a g2 problem, but general android issue. Google contracts used to only accept low res pics and you probably pushed those to your address book at some point. To get high res pics back, you are either manually have to go through and redo the pics, or you can use something like hacksync. It'll pull the facebook profile pics in high res and has the option to push those to your google address book,
This is a general android issue and it will happen with any non nexus phone. If you set a high res pic as a Google contact's pic,it will sync to all your devices as a low res 96x96 pic. It only syncs the high quality one across nexus devices (as far as i know , coming from a nexus 4 after using many samsung devices and now the g2). Minor or major issue depending on the person. For me i can live with it but i prefer the nexus way
I haven't yet tried it on this device, but HD Contacts was a good workaround for this on the last couple devices I had this issue on: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jgarrison.hdcontacts
I can't recall where I read this, but I think this issue is resolved across the board in 4.3 as well.

It's really weird, all the contacts on my phone that I had starred were all in high quality, I never realized this until you mentioned your fix.
However, when I tried to star contacts and then delete cache/data in the contacts app, it didn't seem to change anything.
EDIT: IT WORKS!
Missed one step...
1) Star Contacts
2) Settings > Sync (this is the step that helped me ensure all contacts will sync with high-res photos).
3) Clear Cache/Data in Contacts App (I also cleared Contacts Data App)
4) Sync all your contacts back in and you got your high quality pictures
EDIT EDIT:
Make sure you clear cache/data in both Contacts App and Contacts Data. When I only cleared Contacts App, half the photos were still low-res.
When I cleared both apps and then synced, all photos were high quality.

Sorry if I was unclear, so if I go into Phone > Contacts > Settings (this is where you click "Sync Now") to make sure everything is synced before deleting all contacts data.
Is there a way to "Star" all contacts in one action?

I have noticed the same problem. Is there a solution other than getting images from Facebook or starring every single contact and clearing cache (that would drive me crazy)?
On my Galaxy Nexus using the standard contacts app all contact images are first low res after a new set up but after opening a contact for the first time the high res image is loaded.
On my G2 only the starred contacts have a high res picture while all others are low res.
Can I somehow install the AOSP contacts app to let it load the pictures or is there another work around?
hi there.
two days ago i got my new s5. i like it and all but all the image storing and online storage is a little much at first. but since my previous phone was stolen and i lost a couple of hundred of fond memories (pictures) i was determined to store them online this time. i set up a dropbox account that seems to come with the phone and i used picasa or whatever google drive calls my online gallery (never used this before).
it's neat and i figured out how to hide online pictures so it serves as a backup.
NOW TO MY PROBLEM:
since everything is new to me here (had sgs2 before) i played around in the gallery that is now largely different. i seem to have set something to the wrong setting because now it doesn't show ANY PICTURES anymore. not from any folder/album. from one second to the other everything was gone (from the gallery). the pictures are all there, though. i can access them with any other app (es file explorer, google pictures, camera, etc.) but i want my gallery back. it says "no items - after you take, record or upload pictures or videos to dropbox, items will be shown in gallery"
this leads me to suspect that i might have switched my gallery to displaying the contents of my EMPTY dropbox account. i don't want this but i am unable to change it back. besides i have an app for dropbox stuffs so why is this feature even integrated?
settings shows me the following:
accounts:
[g] my gmail account
SNS DATA CONTROL:
sync via wifi only [v]
CLOUD SYNC
dropbox sync
tap to sync content
FILTER
filter by
TAGS
tag buddy
off
face tag [_]
above i can only access "Add Account" which brings me to a menu displaying all my accounts (or some): samsung, google, dropbox, facebook
PLEASE HELP ME!
i did not find any help searching because there seems to be a similar problem with people's media storage malfunctioning. i don't believe that is my problem but i tried resetting the media storage anyways. i am sure it is something that i did to hide my pictures. how do i get them back? i don't plan on using a different gallery app but maybe it is the only solution?
regards
L2

EDIT:

i actually just installed quickpic and it shows all my pictures which proves to me even further that nothing is wrong with the pictures but just that my gallery is screwed up. how do i unscrew it?
Clear data for gallery app under settings/applications.
Hey everyone,
Ran into a small problem with my Edge+. I primarily use Hangouts for all of messaging, text and otherwise, but have been having an issue with Hangouts having access to all of my photos in Google Photos.
Let me go into detail as much detail as I possibly can.
. In my Google Photos app I can view all of my pictures that have been uploaded over the years across all my Android devices.
. When I go into Google Hangouts and select to send a picture message, I get the option to select Google Photos, the stock gallery app, and a few others.
. Selecting the Google Photos option only yields the pictures I took LOCALLY(recently on the device) and not all the photos that are available in the cloud.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? I know that I've been able to select from ALL of my pictures on my Nexus devices when using Hangouts. Maybe that's the issue. Can someone test on their device and confirm that this isn't just my issue?
