I use facebook photos for most of my contacts, but when some of them updates their contact picture, it won't update in the contacts until some time after (don't know how much time actually).
I found out that Facebook cache wouldn't also update (if I go into the app and select 'Friends', their pictures are still old).
Is there something I could do to force a photo update? I don't want to use syncmypix because it doesn't center the photo in the face like Facebook does.

Last time I tried it cropped the center of the image, so a full-body picture would crop the torso of the person. Facebook autodetects the face and make a picture with it.

Just tried it. Didn't do anything. Probably it takes the Facebook app cache that shows the same old pictures.
EDIT: Now it DID work by adding another layer of syncronization with Facebook and auto-setting the picture as default. But this also suffers from a crop problem. While the facebook thumbnails is perfectly cropped around the face in a square picture, this one is not. So in the square pictures used in the default stock rom of O1 are a little wrong-cropped.
Probably because the pictures they use is the original picture, not the thumbnail. The perfect way for O1 would be to use the thumbnail.
It also adds a painfully high time of synchronization even if I tell it to sync only once a week. And whein it syncs again it takes an awfully high amount of time syncing again.
EDIT2: The best way to do this is still to clear Facebook cache and data, open facebook app, re-login and then select the Friends page. It takes a while to re-create the cache, but this seems still the best way to do that.

I hope this is not a noob question, but if it is I'm sorry and this is my first Android phone. Does anyone else notice that the contact pictures on the Evo are extremely grainy and compressed. I even changed one of the pictures manually, and it was fine initially but became highly compressed again. Is there a way to fix this please. Thanks

I noticed this too. The pictures it pulls from my facebook contacts look great, but the ones from any other contact doesn't.
I have not noticed. My pictures are just like I took them or uploaded them.
I usually don't edit contact pictures like I would with my photographs that I take.

It does the same for all my pictures, even the ones pulled from Facebook. Is there any setting that needs to be changed for it to straighten out cause its really annoying.

They were grainy for me at first, but after I sycned them to facebook, they looked great.
There was an issue with Exchange servers doing something to contact pictures. I don't use Exchange mail, so I haven't seen it.
The photos should be the same.
If you add a photo manually to a contact in Google, it should synch that photo to the phone as well.
I had this problem when I first synced Facebook with my contacts. The pictures were extremely blocky and low res.
Eventually it got better. Not sure how it happened, maybe a reboot or it finished syncing. No idea, glad it got there though.
Well lets hope mine eventually fixes itself..fingers crossed

I had the same problem, I was linked to Gmail for syncing and Google compresses the pics wile syncing them back to evo. I change the pics on evo it’s good for few seconds and then back to grainy sync from Google. Google is been working on a fix, they have been aware of this problem for some time.
I turned off contact sync option, now calendar syncs ok without fuzzy pics
Not sure if this is specific to FRF83 but when I got to my gallery, select photos, and click share, facebook is not an option. What shows up for me is picasa, messaging, bump, bluetooth, email, gmail, k-9 mail. Maybe I have too many?? Any ideas on how to remedy this? Thanks
EDIT: Ok it looks the option (in addition to twitter and goggles) appears when I'm viewing a picture. So is there no way to upload multiple pictures at a time to Facebook?
I've also tried going thru the Facebook app but it seems to only work with one picture at a time too..

Annoyingly not, although that's not a 2.2 thing, it's always been the case.
Hey guys
I tried searching the forums, but found nothing on this. I'm looking to refresh all the facebook photos that are used in the sense contacts. I have done the link/unlink and sign out of facebook for sense in the past, but these get annoying because I then have to relink all the accounts. Now that I have root, is it possible to clear a cache of these photos somewhere so that they refresh? I'm really trying to avoid having to re-link so many accounts again.
Thanks
.
I was wondering the same thing, myself
Yeah, that **** doesn't update at all.
They are also pixelated as ****.
Well this kept bugging me too, but I just keep doing the sign out of facebook and resign in trick...
I don't know why this would unlink all your contacts to their facebook accounts, as whenever I sign out and sign back in, nothing changes except the contact pictures...
I also am not deleting the account then creating a new one if that helps...
If you have the contacts backed up to Google remove the face book account then clear contact storage under manage applications then re-sync Google then re add Facebook. Hope that helps.

It has something to do with Friend Stream and the way things are linked with it.
I know I have done it before and when I choose refresh it does go out and update their Contact photo's to their latest Facebook photo.
I just sat here playing with it and I can get them to update as long as they are linked. However if you have a photo saved into an Outlook contact, it will not update, it will force to what Outlook has set. (I know this is true for Exchange, but not sure if it is same for a Desktop Sync)
Hope this helps !
From Android Central.... (I cant post links)
If your facebook contact has changed their picture and you want to update it on your phone, go to
People > Online Directory > Facebook > Click refresh.

I second this... What is really weird is my wife doesn't have this problem, all of her contacts sync perfectly, it definitely frustrates me lol.
Refreshing them through the facebook directory only refreshed them in that screen, not in my normal contact list. The app was a great suggestion though, thanks!

What I found is that once you scroll over a contact it will add them to the 'to update' list. So if you scroll through your contacts when refreshing then it will update them all ----very slowly though.
I have done some searching but was not able to find any answers. I have been using Android pretty much exclusively these days. I noticed that when I sync my contacts with my Facebook account it adds pictures to the contacts, just like windows mobile. The difference though is that on Windows mobile the pictures are nice and clear. On Android the pictures look very low res and very blurry. It seems like it is using the same picture on the little thumbnail on the as it is on the picture during a phone call.
Does anybody have any thoughts on how to fix this?
Thanks!
bump
same issue here
yep..
I am disapointed with contact pics 2
very low res..
Same here for disappointment with contact pics resolution, I'm not Facebook sync'ing but selected the contact photo's using the gallery app. I'm sure they were good quality when I first set them, but on reboot they are much lower quality.
I was thinking this was an issue with the way we're running Android, via the SD? Can't think why, but I don't believe this could be a generic Android issue (surely).
I got this exact same question this morning.
Use friend stream that's Included on htc sense.
I believe the pictures are actually better.

Still no answer? I believe the issue still exists. My profile pics are low res. On WM6.5 and WindowsPhone the pics are high-res and very nice.
Any thoughts?
There is an app called sync my pics it is on the market download it and sync your contact pictures on wifi..
This has probatly to do with the Exchange protocol, and how Google uises it. This is for WP7, but should also work for Android... At least; the second part;
1. Log into your Google account
2. Settings --> General (1st tab)
3. Under "Contacts' pictures" select "Only show pictures that I've chosen for my contacts"
4. Save, exit

With NAND Desire HD build i got same problems...
but now i use mdj cyanogenmod 2.4 and pro launcher but i dont see facebook pictures from my contacts in the "person" widget from pro launcher?? What to do?
Bump. This issue is intolerable. I would like to link my phone contacts to FB and Gmail, but still be able to use my high-resolution photos of them. They get overwritten every time by either FB or Google.
There has to be a fix somewhere, I'll keep looking.
???
if anyone finds a fix...please post !

I use the Full Screen Called ID App. works wonders, if u dont want full screen images to show when people call, just disable its appearance in the option settings. you can set it to use that contacts facebook display pic as their contact picture, although for people that ring often, I set a preffered picture of choice
Hey!
I get many of my contact pictures from Facebook via SyncMyPix or I just use photos Iäve taken with the camera.

Is there any way to leave out photosync or something? I want my contact pictures to look good ;(

this happens because google saves the contact image in a smaller size to use less space, and no matter what's the resolution on the display pic, after restoring the contacts from google, you'll end up with those crappy images.
the only solution i have found to be working is, you need to sync your contacts with facebook and Facebook with HTC Sense, both and then use the display image that's synced with Facebook with HTC Sense
Here's How : After syncing your contacts, when you edit your contact, Tap on the display image and set the one that's from Facebook with HTC Sense. This displays the image in its proper resolution.
hope this helps.
If I use pics from my phone, I just click edit and click on the pic and choose phone.this will make the pic look great.the first time you sync it might change so do the same steps I mentioned above and you'll get great pics for your contacts
