I know this has been discussed and there are many post on downgrading from 5.0. The problem is there is more than one version on 5.0. So far the info I've found says the latest "upgrade" to OF1 disables Odin downgrades entirely. I've tried several methods for downgrading 5.0/lollipop
but odin always fails. Is there any fix for this?
So I kept throwing stuff at it and now it's soft bricked. I guess the question now is, is there any way ti fix this when Odin won't work?????
EDIT: I guess odin will work for for reflashing 5.0 or even back to 4.4.4 so now I'm back where I started.

Uhm. What? I'm OF1. Odin works fine. If you're having problems, you did something wrong or did something you shouldn't have done. Theres only one version of OF1. There's only one version of 5.0. If youre referring to root custom ROMs, once you upgrade from 4.4.2, root is no longer possible on the Verizon Note 3.That's all their is to it.

Yeah, I figured that out. I thought Odin wouldn't work because I first tried to flash back to 4.3 then 4.4.2. I then tried various other rooting methods and obviously none worked. The phone ended up soft bricked and it was then I found that I could flash 4.4.4 or 5.0. I had assumed Odin was disabled entirely with the locked bootloader.

Yeah. I did the same one time. Once you flash 4.4.4 or above it locks the bootloader. Downgrading won't fix it. Once it's locked, it's locked. Really sucks. I was working on a root method with some friends, but we all upgraded to the note 5 and S6EP... so it went to a dead stop. Too bad. There's about 20k worth of good donations for an unlock/root. Gl!

I have an SM-G900A with a build date of July 22, 2014. Geohot's Towelroot won't work on it. I keep looking for information on rooting this phone, but they all go back to Towelroot or CF-Auto-Root. Chainfire's Auto-Root page doesn't list a file for the SM-G900A. What can I do to get this phone rooted? Is there someone at the AT&T store who can help?
You can downgrade your kernel temporarily, root via towelroot and upgrade your kernel again -> rooted S5. See here.

I can't say for sure for this model, but here someone says the G900AUCU1ANCE 4.4.2 stock firmware can be towelrooted.
He suggests that you downgrade the comlete firmware, not only the kernel. This may be easier because a .tar.md5-file with only the kernel might be hard to find, i only found those for the g900f. After rooting with towelroot you might be able to update to the current firmware via Mobile Odin PRO and keep root, if you can find a version of your current firmware that can be flashed with MOP. I'm not sure about that though, you have to find out yourself, i have only downgraded and re-upgraded the kernel.

I fiddled with Jodin and failed. Then I dug out an old laptop, put Windows 7 on it, and tried out regular Odin for a bit. For some reason, feeding it the regular .tar.md5 file I get from sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com wouldn't work. I kept getting complaints of "W Rev Check Fail [aboot] fused 2 >Binary 1". The solution was to feed Odin the files individually. Ultimately I followed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785363. My SM-G900A is now rooted.

I followed the referenced directions exactly and then used Towelroot. In retrospect, that was too much. I wound up erasing everything I did with the phone. I should have followed this instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299. I picked up on that one with item 6 to close the hole that Towelroot exploited. I hope that will prevent an OTA from being pushed at me. Another good thing about the latter method, I think it's easily doable with Heimdall.

At least one problem has cropped up: Wifi passwords are not saved. I flashed it with the ND3 stock kernel and now it's saving passwords again. I don't know what the problem is.
Diagnosis: brainfart
With my phone flashed with the ND3 stock kernel, I allowed the phone to take the OTA update. This put my phone back into the state it was when I walked out of the AT&T store with it. THEN I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299 from beginning to end. Now I have a rooted phone, Towelroot hole patched, and Wifi passwords retained.
Lol
"Is there someone at the ATT store that can help"
Laughing my ass off right now.
i root my gs4 with odin, everything went fine but I wanted to get my gs faster so i downloaded kernel for gs4 and flashed it. mistake here. i didnt check if it supports 4.4.4. it only support devices under 4.3 so.. no wifi. that was the problem i had other than that, all was good. than I downloaded some OTA file for my gs4 and when i tried to flash it with safestrap, it kept said fail. so i thought it's maybe because i already have OS installed... so i wiped system, data and i tried to flash that OTA file, fail again. now im screwd. there is no OS on my gs4. when i trun it on, it vibrates, than reboots and than goes into Odinmode and say something like "nornal boot not possible" in red.
so i spent couple days searching how to get my phone work again but everything i tried didnt work. and for galaxy s4 sgh i337 nj4 version 4.4.4 it even made me think it was made just for me.
i tried kies, failed it told me to do emergency recovery but my phone does not show on list.
can anyone please help me.. Im new to Samsung Galaxy..

You'll have to use the ODIN file from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674223
Flash that in ODIN, use the rootable version if you want to root it using towelroot.
Besides that, you can't flash any custom kernels on the S4 unless you're on the 4.2.2 MDL bootloader, and there's no way to get back to that from 4.4.

I recently "upgraded" to 5.0.1 from 4.4.4 google play edition (nb1) and i quickly regretted it! I used Muniz's method to upgrade and root but I forgot completely how much touchwiz SUCKS! it's so frustrating having so many limitations to what i can do to my s4.
I did plan on getting the S6 seeing as I'm up for my 2 year upgrade with ATT but after playing with touchwiz again I realized how much I loved my pure android experience and Xposed options. Does anyone have any recommendations on downgrading and go back to a pure android lollipop rom?
btw i'll probably just wait on the moto x 2015

So people with locked bootloaders can't even flash stock ROMs?

I've been reading that upgrading to oc3 might possibly lock the bootloader. i havent tried to ODIN 4.4 tho yet cuz i haven't gotten clear info yet. I could ODIN and downgrade but I'm not sure if it will brick my phone
Ok, so after trying to use this guide to downgrade my i337 to stock, I was met with the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue screen". I am now using this guide to fix this issue. Currently, Samsung Kies is working and downloading the stock firmware for me. Lets hope this works. I will keep you guys updated.
Update: It seems like its not working as well. Since I couldn't do it through ODIN, I guess Kies wouldn't work as well. Do I have a soft brick here? Damn.

No, I had followed a guide to update my stock 4.4.4 to 5.0.1 using stock recovery. The file was 947mb .zip and contained a .cfg file inside. I had to extract the .zip and rename the .cfg to .zip. Then I side-loaded the file and updated to 5.0.1. I was on stock 5.0.1 before I tried to downgrade.

It sounds to me like the aboot qfuse counter changed which would mean that there's no going back to any previous FW. It was only a matter of time before they did it since the VZW S4 lollipop update did that.
We won't know until we get ahold of either the update.zip or the odin tar. I have 2 VZW S5's and both refuse to tell me there's an update available even when I Odin back to a stock FW.

It's most likely more of a Verizon thing than a Samsung thing. Although with the 5.1.1 S5 update on T-Mobile, the kernel prevents rooting and T-Mobile phones are on unlocked bootloaders which means they don't care if you root or install a custom rom so maybe it is becoming more of a Samsung thing now.

I had lolipop 5.0.1 SM-G900F yesterday and I can tell you that I succeed on downgrade. I now have 4.4.2 but there is one problem, Towelroot don't work anymore so if you want to downgrade your software you can do it by downloading it from sammobile. If you want root it without knox you probably don't find any solution, if you want to mind hit knox you can use chain-fire. I could not find anything that will root it without hiting knox.

Joe is your phone rooted? I have the same exact same phone and have successfully rolled it back. If not rooted, here are some links to help you out and then you can flash whatever rom you like. If you are on OG6 use this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...t/root-kernel-root-method-fog6-5-1-1-t3178077 or if you are on OF6 use this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...t/root-kernel-root-method-fof6-5-1-1-t3158005 After getting root, flash a custom recovery like Philz Touch or TWRP and flash whatever rom you're looking for.
