TWRP 2.8.7.0 not compatible with 6.0 - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I guess TWRP Recovery 2.8.7.0 (twrp-2.8.7.0-clark.img) is not compatible with Marshmallow on the Moto X Style/Pure (XT1572 / XT1575), right?
I'm trying to flash it here but nothing happens.

Wait for official and then for a rom.

Same here
I tried flashing twrp-2.8.7.0-clark.img on Moto X Style Marshmallow 6.0 using command fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-clark.img
The flashing completes with "OKAY", but when I try to boot the recovery partition, the phone boots.

Yeah. Exactly what happened to me. Can't wait for the update.

On the OTA zip file for Brazilian XT1572 there is a patch file named boot-from-recovery.p.
Probably something changed in the recovery booting.
I can get it to boot into recovery using adb reboot recovery command.
But it will boot into stock recovery instead of TRWP.
Guess we will have to wait for a new TWRP version.

[GUIDE][HOW-TO] Root Moto G 2014 WITHOUT flash a custom recovery

What is this?
I have seen several people wanting to root on your Moto G 2014 and not doing because they do not want to install a custom recovery, and stick with the stock recovery to receive OTA updates. After some research and a little study, i made this procedure and it worked perfectly on my Moto G XT1069 4.4.4. Here we go!
Note:
- Apparently does not work on Android Lollipop 5.0
Various reports users confirmed that the procedure works on Android Lollipop, but you need the latest version of TWRP 2.8.5.0
Working: (confirmed by users here in the topic)
- XT1069, XT1068 (thanks bluepower), XT1064 (thanks chukis13), XT1063 (thanks feligoni)
But should work on other versions of Moto G 2014 Stock 4.4.x or previous also.
Please, roport if working in others models and android versions versions .
Requirements:
- Unlocked bootloader
- Usb debugging enable on your phone.
- Adb and Fastboot into your PC: Donwload
- Motorola Drivers: Download
- Custom recovery: Donwload (TWRP 2.8.5.0)
- Latest SuperSu: Download
Instructions:
- Copy SuperSu from your SDcard;
- Open CMD or Terminal into the folder where you placed the Custom recovery and reboot on bootloader:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
- After reboot in bootloader, boot on temp custon recovery:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery_file_downloaded.img
- Your phone will restart in temporary Custon Recovery.
- Now just flash the SuperSU (which you copied to your sdcard before)
- Reboot system
- Enjoy!

adrianom (TWRP Custom recovery)
Chainfire (SuperSu)
Thanks to all the users for reporting.

So after Reboot system, the phone is back to Stock Recovery not TWRP_2.8.0.1_Titan_v2?

Yep. Only "boot" on TWRP for flash super su, you don't will flash a custon recovery.
XT1063
will work for the XT1063?
Confirmed XT1064
Did not work on bootloader unlocked XT1063 running lollipop.
fastboot boot TWRP.img results in bootlooping
fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img works.
subsequent rebooting overwrites TWRP with stock recovery, so mission accomplished anyway.
Also SuperSU root didn't work under lollipop for me, sadly. Also bootlooped. Had to reinstall from nandroid backup.

won't work, OTA checks for system integrity and you edited it by rooting
So after flashing custom recovery can we get OTA lollipop update or not???? ?

Wrong. Only use "full unroot" option in SuperSU.

With this guide you don't will flash a custom recovery, you only boot temporarily in custom recovery to flash SuperSU.

If this command line, you go boot on custom recovery, this no "flash" a new recovery. Your recovery will remain the same.
You can check the command line that there is no command "flash".
Working on my XT1068!
Valeu brother!
Not Working on my XT1063. . .

I just used it yesterday on my XT1063 and it worked so you are probably doing something wrong.

Moto G XT1032 Retail 5.1 Root

For all who are on Retail 5.1 and dont know how to root, try the ROOT & TWRP Method from the 5.1 GPE Version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/gpe-lollipop-5-1-1click-installer-t3075522
I've tried it myself and it works Perfect.
Good for all who got the Update and want to share it with us.
All credits goes to the Uploader :good:
There's no need to flash TWRP if you just want to root your phone.
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
Then install the latest SuperSU, and reboot.

I mean that Part "ROOT & TWRP"
I didnt said that you have to install that TWRP too.
"fastboot boot twrp.img" does not install recovery, just boot it.

I did this and it worked fine Tanks :good:
...or just use CF-Auto-Root by Chainfire, it automatically installs su and SuperSU and then reboots your phone.
IMHO it's the easiest way to root your phone.

Sorry for bumping, but the same happened to me, Stock 5.1 XT1032, US Retail ,unlocked bootloader.
The Chainfire script gets stuck, and when I press to reboot, I get a dead Android with a red icon

OnePlus Two stuck on boot logo after trying to boot into recovey on OOS 3.0

I had the same problem, i entered fastboot and flashed boot.img from the oxygen3.0.zip and flashed the optional oxygen3recovery and then i did boot into the boot.img:
Fastboot...
....flash boot boot.img
.....flash recovery recovery.img
...boot boot.img
The fastboot screen did not disappear but after 5min the 3.0oxygen logo appeared
BROTHER ...!!! i am having problem with recovery mode not able 2 boot into twrp recovery .....
You need a custom twrp recovery because they changed the bootloader. I downloaded it from the Oneplus forum, but i'm sure it is also available at XDA
@_Beni_ does that twrp booted ?
@Veer1080 yeah it does boot with this recovery https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24459283995297945
Just flash it via fastboot(fastboot flash recovery recovery.zip)
SuperSu for oxygen is available here:

I had this when i flashed my oneplus 2 and was worried i would never get mine back. Then a fellow XDA Developer gave me this link below. Follow step two as it is guaranteed to get your phone up and running!
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/q-a-the-ultimate-oneplus-2-guide-solutions-e-t-c.358089/
Use modified twrp
Flash it via fastboot
N then command
Fastboot boot recover "modi twrp name"
Sent from my ONE A2003 using XDA-Developers mobile app
after following these steps i got my twrp working but flashing any rom with it make me stuck at one plus one logo. Now i dont know what to do??
In case you want to go back and use any ohter rom after Oxygen 3.0 instalation.
Oxygen 3.0 it modifies the recovery behavior, you will need to downgrade the OS to version 2 (it will cause the stuck in the logo), once done that, reinstall the TRWP (not modified) via fastboot and now you will be able to flash any other rom

Phone freezes even on recovery?

Hi, I got a friend's Moto X Pure which as he tells me just stopped working. It was last running AICP 7.1, the phone freezes on the Motorola logo, and when you try to boot to recovery it freezes on the TWRP logo.
I flashed a new recovery over fastboot, still freezes.
Any idea what could be the issue here? Thanks!
Did he or u do a an official backup through I think called adb or fastboot? From the computer.

No, I've downloaded the stock firmware and I'll try to flash it through fastboot to see what happens.
Have you tried just booting TWRP with 'fastboot boot recovery.img' instead of flashing and starting it? (replace recovery.img with the name of your TWRP image file)

Can't install TWRP, no bootable A/B slot

Dear all,
after trying to install TWRP (from the official homepage), the bootloader logs show the following message on my phone (moto g6 plus):
AP fastboot Flash Mode (Secure)
No bootable A/B slot
Failed to boot Linux, falling back to fastboot
Fastboot reason: Fall-trough from recovery boot mode
Any recommendations, what I can do/try now?
With volumen keys search for a green letters "Start" and flash stock rom or flash boot.img from stock.
Kepp in mind that Official TWRP can't be installed only BOOTED so don't try it again there's a flashable TWRP installer here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g6-plus/how-to/twrp-installer-zip-evert-t3875657
KEEP IN MIND THAT WE CAN FLASH THE INSTALLER BUT ISN'T RECOMMENDED!
Sent from my G6 Plus using XDA Labs
DON'T DO WHAT YOU WANT when a script is given from the creator IT IS NO A PROBLEM.
I know muy words are so really bad but is the truth. Reflash all the stock system and after it BOOT twrp is you need but dont flash cause we don't have a recovery partition, so, we can't use twrp like un older moto phones
