Hi.
Anybody knows app or tool to change the battery icon by an % one?.
Thank you.
this would be helpful to me.
I use Battery Status
I use these files :
dont remember the thread, but the idea comes from schaps who develop ROMs for Hermes and Kaiser.
Usage : Install SDKCerts.cab, then PK%20White%2BColorNewWarningClean3GCompressed.cab , and SoftReset.
To uninstall : Uninistall PK%20White%2BColorNewWarningClean3GCompressed in Program Manager, Then RemoveSDKCerts.cab, SoftReset.
It looks good, the battery charge is indicated with 10% steps.

Great Vrdsp0, thanks for that. It's exactly what I was looking for...
That is a great piece of software, really like. Thanks Heaps.
Excellent app, cheers for posting it and props to whoever made it.
Been looking for a lightweight freeware way to do this for ages.
any screenshot please??
i agree, i would also like to see a screenshot as well as a more detailed description of this app.
thanks!
it doesn't show the right percent of battery, this app shows 90%, but Battery Status shows 82 %, soft reset 2 times, still same
Edit, i need to disable Battery Status, in order for this app works properly, it's great

look at the battery on top of screen, it shows the % of battery
how do i disable the battery status so it works properly?
it says 100% and my status says ive got about 92%
It shows the level in steps of 10% and rounds up.
Eg
91%-100% = 100%
81%-90% = 90%
etc
I assume this is because its actually an image thats switched every 10%, not an actual live meter per se. Still, I find the battery meter is only accurate +/- 10% anyways, so no difference really.
it shows in incriments of 10 bc thats how the stock microsoft battery manangement is designed. battery status does it differently. the battery icons are nothing more than images in phcanoverbmp.dll, pretty easy edit. pics are in original thread those cabs were found in.
edit: this is not a app. it is just overwriting the default battery icons by using a dll. the battery icons shown have been created by me and bennec83 but the technique was first used my schaps and someone else who i cant seem to remember the username of. me and bennec just created new icons. same dll is used for clean 3g icons, call history icons, and pin pad if i remember correctly.
It is on increments of 10% because that's how the Hermes' battery management works. And that's where it was first modified for.

After installing RemoveSdkCerts.cab, No sound in the Device...????
I have installed the sdkcerts.cab but after some time I noticed that my Battery Drains, I thought to remove & check out that this installation is not the problem? So have removed by RemoveSdkCerts.cab . After removing & soft reset I have noticed that my sound is totally gone. Even after dialling, Music Player.....No Sound. I was disturbed with that. Dont know what to do. Then after I have reinstalled sdkcerts.cab and I got back my sound.
If I want to remove this application/drivers then what to do? Is there such issue came....
Help me out

i have also noticed that my battery is also draining quite fast... HTC Touch Pro. i have not uninstalled yet for fear of loosing sound... i have the stock bell rom and radio... im gonna give it a few days to see what happens with the battery...
Same here with D2. My battery drains. I have read in a few places that the sdkcerts don't do any harm, but it did the same thing with my X1. Are the certs device specific? Is there another way to install the battery icons?
Now I'm not trying to make this into a competition but I'm just trying to get an idea of how many apps people have installed. I want to get an idea what is a lot and what the average is.
I have 159 apps installed and they are installed in my SD card.
How about you?
PS... EASY WAY TO COUNT YOUR APPS IS BY USING ATRACKDOG AND ONCE ITS FINISHED SCANNING YOUR APPS CLICK ON "VERSION TRACKING" ON THE BOTTOM. NEXT PAGE SHOULD DISPLAY YOUR TOTAL NUMBER OF APPS.

Okay the results are in so far... and we have an average of 64 apps per person and a high of 266 apps and a low of 3 apps.
Edit/Delete Message
i have apps on my sdcard to, got as high as 113 but went down to 40
I've got 139 installed here, but once the Market gets paying apps, I think I'll need to get a 16Gb sd card and increase the size of my ext2 partition.
...really you guys? I only have 4 installed

What the heck do you guys have installed??? That's like having 9 pages of iPhone apps...and barely using them.
i use ALL of my apps (not including the 5 games i have) some of them are extentions to other apps like oi convert csv, and oi voice notes and tts.
i've installed about 5 apps and thats about it!
What are they

Err, quite a bit, actually. I have a wonderfully powerful computer (with phone, wifi, internet access, etc.) in the palm of my hand, and I want it to do whatever I need it to do within a few swipes and taps
Note:
No kittens where harmed during photoshopping of the middle image to protect the innocent
I have 73 apps installed but about 20 I really dont need that are just for fun like the Mr T sound board. I dont think I could ever get as high as some of you guys.
I didn't realize I had that many. I have 123 so far (didn't really look very carefully but I'm sure that includes some of the stock apps that came preinstalled). I don't even worry about space anymore now that all my apps are being ran through the SD.
Yikes.....
Erm.... thought more people would be closer to what I apparently have amassed --- well color me surprised.
I currently have 266 apps installed.
Here's a screenshot of aTrackDog - incidentally, is there any other way to display total # of apps??
Last count 102 here.

Yes click on version tracking on atrackdog. It will show you there. I just put this in the main post too so people dont have to count 1 by 1.
40+ and all of them are on internal memory.
83 and growing
honestly guys i dont use many of the 83 apps i have but i do use almost 15 of them .
was just trying to see how many apps i can do on my sd card without feeling a little lag. have 1.1GB on EXT2 only 180MB is used and i dont think i can fill it. and by the way the phone is noticeably slowing down now. takes about 3 to 4 seconds to accept a call after i press it.
I actually use all the apps I've downloaded. I don't see any sense anything other than I need.
Well i am trying without success to modify the status bar battery icons so they show the charge in 1% o mejor 5% steps
so far i modified stat_sys_battery_charge y stat_sys_battery, added the necessary battery icons where they belong. But after compiling and installing the notification bar battery icons still show in steps of 20%.
I assume that the Eiclar kernel is capable of that
I found after decompiling the framework a public.xml in /value. Do i have to add the new drawable new icons with unique ID's also in that one or do i miss something? Perhaps the service.jar?
Running Telus 3.11 on Milestone
I'm pretty sure the Milestone and Droid hardware is only capable of reporting battery status in 10% increments, so you unfortunately wouldn't be able to get 1 or 5 no matter what you do

you sure? when the milestone battery level drop below 20%, it will display 20->15->10->5%, so the milestone hardware just support 10% increment at first 80% and support 5% increment at 20% level?

It does switch to 5% increments once you get below 20, but from everything I've read, this is also a hardware function. No way to go finer than 10% when you're above 20, unfortunately.

CM can do 1% increments in it's settings(i havent use the setting since i changed my battery icons with %, so it could be not as fine as 1%), so there must be a way to do it

There seams to be a way.
Problem is you don't have enough unused icons in /drawable-hdpi-v4. Te only possibility for new images is to add in /value/public.xml the needed battery icon names with ID's and create them than in /drawable-hdpi-v4. Than modify the battery xml's. CM does it that way. Doing that we than will know if 2.1 is capable of recognize 1% steps. Also question is to what are those ID's related.
This should do th job.

The issue here is that the phone's hardware will only respond to queries for remaining battery with a certain set of values (100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 15, 10, 5). CM is certainly capable of displaying the battery value in finer increments, but this is more of a vestigal feature from its HTC-phone origins, as the Droid will never report any value other than those listed.
There are apps on the Market that estimate battery percentage to a finer degree (I think Battery Left widget is one of them?), but they don't get their information directly from the phone's power manager. Rather, they monitor your battery usage and voltage over time and produce an estimate based on this data.
This would be an awesome feature to have in a ROM, but it would require a bit more effort to implement than it would on a phone that reported battery percentage in 1% increments to begin with.

Yes i have the following:
For stat: 0,5,15,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90,100
For charging: 0,10,20, etc.
You need to change two xml files and change/replace some images.

In addition to Thomas_BA's advice on how to get all of these increments to show in the status bar (which some ROMs such as CyanogenMod have already done for you), you can also see your battery status in 10% increments by going to Settings:About Phone:Status.

For Android 2.1:
Important:
Don't use the images on a CDMA phone
In case you have CDMA use some unused GsM signal images, rename the files and also the name in the xml files.
The zip file contains two decompiled (clear text) xml files and the necessary battery icons. Don't use them on a CDMA phone, as i changed some CDMA signal images to battery icons. I don't need them as i have a GsM phone.
Also you have to rename the image names. Just remove 00_,01_,etc. and C00_, C01_, etc. I have done so to show the image order regarding charging and statue.
Usage:
Decompile your framwork-res-apk. Copy the xml files into the dcompiled framwork-res (not the images), compile, rename framwork-res.apk to '...zip' and tan copy the images.

Hey guys, I believe we are going to need a general thread to report and discuss Nexus S bugs so here it is!
Let me start by reporting what I found so far.
1. Screen does not respond to the first/second touch after unlock.
2. Email app (not Gmail) does not zoom in/out. We are talking about a really bad experienced when displaying HTML emails.
3. Again for Mail app signature is not included when you create mail straight from Contacts.
4. SMS Delivery Reports are a MESS. Send SMS to a person getting delivery report pop-up for another completely unrelated number while the original message is still pending. We are talking about a disaster here lool
5. Also for the SMS Delivery reports. Pop up notification display the number and not the contact's name.
6. Many websites are causing the browser to act very slow for none reason. (with Flash activated or deactivated). Major example androidcentral.com. I found many websites that causing major lag on browser.
7. MMS are blurry as reported by many
8. Battery Never charge to 100% even if your phone displays 100% it drops to 97% once you unplug it. If I remember correctly I had the same problem with Nexus One.
9. Calendar Widget does not display "Today's" events
10. Google forgot to put Digital Zoom on Camera App. (And yes digital zoom is worthless but many people for some reason like it and miss it.)
11. Not really a bug, but if you notice on Gingerbread Google placed the keyboard 1cm above the bottom of the screen, is not located all the way to the bottom of the screen like previous Android versions. that 1cm is more than enought for me to hit blank screen and not the space bar when I am typing.
12. On keyboard you have to press and hold to select a smile icon. Then you need to keep holding your finger down until you actually select what you want.
13. There is not multiple select threats on messaging. So If I want to delete multiple threads I have to do it one by one...
14. Contacts Associated with Facebook Contacts have a really blurry really bad quality picture on caller id.
Wishlist:
1. We are on Android 2.3 and Google still doesn't giving us the option to install different locales. I mean not many people care for Language Menus but we do need the official Keyboard to add other freaking Languages. This is ridiculous...
2. Copy Paste is well improve but is very immature. Evey app use different method to generate copy and paste.
3. Hardware-wise the phone supports flawless 720p video recording. Why Google didn't include it?
4. The phone needs a native video-call app. Google needs to update Gtalk ASAP.
5. Called ID picture is way too small for this gorgeous 4 inch Super Amoled display.
add to error-list:
13. facebook sync is not working 100% correct - i got many gmail contacts witch are not synced with the facebook contact (would not be that bad but my girlfriends contact is not syncing right)
ad to Wishlist:
5. notificatins led would be cool ... (SMS, MSS, MAIL, ...) nut the 3 would be very very cool ...
I agree with it all. My main issue is the 'deadzone' which is the 1cm edge of the touch screen.

This is NOT a bug. This is by design.
To elaborate, from the stickied FAQ:
unremarked said:
Q: I unplugged my phone, and my battery dropped from 100% to 95% immediately, or it won't/takes along time to charge past 99%, what gives?
This is by design. Your phone will slow down and eventually stop pulling charge at or slightly greater than ~95% regardless of what your battery indicator says. This is to extend the overall life of the battery, as constant 100% to 0% charge/discharge cycles will cause it to fail prematurely. If you're interested in really pushing it to 100%, you can use a technique that is called "bump charging" and is better detailed here: http://bit.ly/f6xiZ0/

Sorry, jumped the gun a little. See the quote I edited in.
Like I said, this is by design.
EDIT: I also have some of the things you've pointed out listed in the Known Issues section of the FAQ, and some that you don't have.
BUG: touch screen area
the bug i've found so far... (which can be fixed by a screen calibration app)
the first half inch of the screen right above the 4 soft buttons, are not very responsive, unless you use your finger tips
so when you Naturally use the THUMB to press those quick shortcuts from Launcher Pro, or stock Android Launcher it won't react.... which is rather annoying.
never had that problem with the SGS
I started a thread over at Android Central to get people to visit reported issues to Google and star them. Here's the list so far. Let's add to it.
1) Random ringtone/notification tone changes: Ringtones assigned to contacts do not maintain assignment after a reboot
2) Disappearing App icons on the home screen or difficulty in moving them: Disappearing Home Screen Icons
3) Disappearing photos from the Gallery:
Issue 13419 - android - New pictures disappear in Gallery - Project Hosting on Google Code
4) Repeal the 15-min return policy in App Market (it used to be 24 hours): Issue 13116 - android - Change refund time in Market. 15min is way to little. - Project Hosting on Google Code
5) Accelerometer not working after using Sky Maps: Nexus S-Accelerometer will not work after using Sky Maps
6) After screen times out, you can't bring it back when using speakerphone or earbuds: after screen times out, you can't bring it back when using speakerphone or earbuds
Hmm, that deadzone seems like it'll be a troublesome issue for me... Can you please post a picture of the keyboard displacement? (I haven't got my NS yet, so I don't know how it looks)
i don't know if this is one of the error.. but the charging time is ridiculous. i could charge up to 2 hours and still not finish charging.. the battery run out ridiculously fast too.. with normal usage it barely manage more than half a day.. i adjust my screen brightness to the minimum level and turn off background data and auto sync (i just turn them on when i needed them), and use it to play a little bit of games and watching movies.. 8 hours is around the best time i got..
another known issue is poor wifi signal =(..i am standing 1 meter from my router and the signal could drop from full bar to 1 bar while my sister macbook could receive wifi from another room that is quite far from the router..
Something I noticed yesterday was notification tones almost nonexistent despite the volume being at full blast. When pressing the volume rocker I barely hear anything. I fixed this by rebooting the phone but still something that's a little alarming.
Not sure if it was mentioned, but i hope they fix the MMS/image upload orientation issue
I dont know if this is considered a nexus bug, but...
-Youtube app, if I search for, select, and watch a video...after completion, if I press search again, and type something in, after hitting enter it simply clears the search screen and returns to finished video. In order to make a new search I have to back back back all the way to the first youtube screen or force close/reopen youtube app. Again this is using the provided youtube app, not youtube mobile
I haven't experienced any of the things in that list, but then again they are pretty app specific and I don't use any of those apps. One thing I did experience was the Facebook app just logged me out and lost all my contact sync settings. This happened to me twice, but it is more likely a Facebook problem and not Gingerbread.
Oh, I did notice the battery charge thing but like someone else mentioned I don't consider that a bug.

I have no idea what they're talking about. o_o I have almost always used the stock Messaging app on every Android phone I've ever owned (and I've owned a fair share of them, see sig) and never once have I had a problem anywhere CLOSE to what they're reporting.
I've only ever had two issues with messaging was on the Nexus One, it's weak 3G/phone signal would cause alot of messages to not send randomly. And the other was my GF would sometimes receive duplicates of messages after flashing/reflashing/restoring things on my G2. Interestingly enough, no one else told me they were getting duplicates 'cept for her.
EDIT: Beyond that, I take what Engadget says with a great grain of salt. I consider them to be the FOX News(instead of the GOP, it's Apple) of phone/technology blogs.

dont call me a windows fanboy, but I really wanted this windows widget on my phone. I have the same clock on my wall. Something to work with any clock app... I like alarmclock Xtreme.

EDIT 3 : V2 attached "alarmclock xtreme with modded clock" and "deskclockgoogle" versions (below) post 11 for details
EDIT 4 : V3 (final??) attached. stand alone 1x1 clock. MicroNeonClockWidget (below) post 12 for details.
**TO DO: *****HELP NEEDED
- find artist/programmer to change neon "ring" into battery meter...
- add second hand.
View attachment 533210
EDIT: added original .png images. shouldnt be hard from here..
Unfortunately, the source images are pretty tiny (130 px by 130 px) and upscaling them creates an obnoxiously blurry image so I have included here a widget that will work (though looks a bit tiny). Push the apk to /system/app (it may work in /data/app, didn't test though) and add the widget like any other
note: the above image was created with a DPI setting of 200 instead of the standard DPI of 240, may look a bit different on your screen. also, the widget in this apk does not use a seconds hand, that's why there isn't one shown.
thanks man actually that will work perfect see screenshot of where i put it...

then this may not actually be all that helpful to you. I plugged it into the deskclockgoogle.apk which makes it take a 2x2 square even if the actual image isn't that big and I'm unsure of how to change it

no problem, just hit me that you could, of course, be using a launcher that supports resizing widgets dynamically (launcherpro plus/adw) and it wouldn't matter, so good luck with it, hope it fits your needs.
actually using launcherpro plus i was able to re-size the widget and it didnt scale the image, so i have 1x1 perfect.
EDIT: gotta love timing...
is there any way to Untie it to alarm? so i can use it with alarmclockextreme?

hmm, to be honest I have no experience with modifying market apps. I know that standard taking apart and putting back together doesn't work because it breaks the key signing. there are probably some guides on how to resign the application properly, but for now it is beyond my grasp, sorry =/

we're all learning, thats what we're here for.
thanks again
here is a version of the free alarm clock xtreme available on the market with the above neon clock as the analog clock. remove any version installed from the market before attempting to install this and then install like any normal apk.
ok, I think I finally have something that could suit anyone's needs. Here is a widget that is permanently 1x1 (which can be scaled up with a launcher that resizes, but it looks best at this size given the resolution of the PNG's anyway, so it'd be kind of pointless). This is a modded version of this app:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/micro-clock-widget-1x1/factory.widgets.Micro available for free on the market. I have changed the name so they can be installed side by side in case you wanted multiple clocks. Unfortunately, clicking it doesn't open anything, so it's just a standalone 1x1 widget analog clock. Install like any other standard apk.
edit: wow I spent too much time on this, but now I know how to edit market apps yay learning experiences.
