I have a weird issue with the wifi hotspot on ZUK-Z1. I switch it on and it switches itself off again. Then gets in a loop. Off on, off on. Sometimes it will work for a few minutes.
I'm on EE UK 4g if that makes any difference
Anyone else have this issue? Or does anyone know if there is a fix?
Thanks

Yes, this is a bug in lineage-14.1-20170130-NIGHTLY-ham.
Hope that developers will fix it soon.

A workaround is to change to 3G just while the hotspot is on. That works for me. I don't use it too much anyway.
My first Z1 was stable as a rock but I have to say when I used mobile hotspot I was on 3G, that network did not provided 4G. Now I bought a second Z1 and I do see that this one is very unstable resulting that my laptop is "loosing" the hotspot and searching for another networks.
Will try this "trick"...I will see how it behaves in other locations to as it could be well that the old traditional building is somewhat blocking the signal.

There are no chances of it being a hardware issue. Because you told that it works fine when in 3G network. You can simply rule that out. And I don't think your network provider has something to do with turning on your hotspot! ???. It might be just a software bug. Are you on any custom ROM? If yes, then which?
Tried hotspot today in the same location but changed it into 3G instead of 4G...rock solid, no interruptions nor did my laptop disconnected once! I did read somewhere (was it here?) the the Z1 has less 4G freq bands explaining the unstable connection.

I got a new HTC touch 3g from Asia and have frustrating problem. On ATT network in US, when the call network switches between 3G and Edge the phone network becomes zero ( no bars) and the calls drop.
This is extremely annoying as the ATT network continuously changes from 3g and edge when driving/walking. Is there anyway to switch off 3g/edge because I don't have a data plan and I don't use the phone for internet.
Or is there a way to force it to be only edge?
Any help would be great!
do a search for nodata.cab, it's originally form the Modaco forum but i've seen it over here too, works great!
Thanks! Downloaded and changed the settings in nodata.
Any ideas how I can test that this works? I still see "E" next to the phone bars.
Thanks a lot.
I think this is no solution: NoData only stops data-connections and does not affect the connection-band that is used for communication with the base-stations of the network (for speaking and data). Your problem are the calls not the data connection that you do not use, IMO.
Try this: "Start/Settings/Telephone/Band" (translated from German). There you can preselect the Band(s) that is (are) used for communication globally.
Thanks. I don't have anything called "Band".
I tried using Bandswitch...has anyone tried it?

This sounds good, I do not know the exact English nomenclature because I have a German version. What type of network is displayed next to phone bars now?

You're right! i was mislead by the question (how to turn of 3G or Edge).
Please help:
I'm on CM9 19 6 nightly. Using Semaphore kernel without any modifications to the scripts.
The problem: My signal keeps on going out at regular intervals.
I've used XXJVU, DDJV5, XXJVT, KF1(Nexus modem for ICS) and various more. I stay on the modems for a week and then change to another one. The latest one is DDJV5 which I have been using since the past 2 weeks.
Tried all of the modems I could lay my hands on. Nothing works.
But the moment I come to work, the signal keeps fluctuating over the day. Sometimes it would be out for 10-15 minutes. When it's back, it would get back to giving -65 .. -71 dBm. It would stay like that for a few minutes and then it would be gone again for another 10-15 minutes or so.
It has turned into an OCD where I keep checking my signal.
This does not happen when I'm back home and then I'm back to getting good signal.
Yes, this looks to you like a locational issue. I thought so too. BUT, how did I get so good signal till a week back at work?
Question: What could have made this mess to my signal reception? How can I solve this?
No, all my syncs are OFF. I keep my 3G turned off and only use it once an hour or so for a few minutes. I don't use any signal consuming apps.
Also, sometimes the 3G would work even without the signal.
Another thing, sometimes there's a (x) sign at the signal bar thing and sometimes there is no (x) without bars.
As a cure for the OCD, I've taken an off from work today just to get some rest from checking my signal every now and then. And maybe find a solution.
I'm on Vodafone India.
Indians, I am on Vodafone India in Pune, Hinjewadi Information Technology park. Maybe Pune guys can help me out too?
maybe the phone changes the network mode.. 2g 3g or i dont know , try to put in in 2g only mode , or gsm only mode.
When the signal bar shows with a "x" it means the network is not available...go to settings and change the Network mode to "GSM Only". It will solve the fluctuating issue but network speed will be limited to 2G only.

Thanks, let me try it out.
Where is the network changing option to GSM only in ICS?
Okay, I guess it's the 2G mode.

Is going to 2G mode my ONLY option?
How can I fix this and get back to using 3G?
Update:
Changing to 2G mode fixed the problem. BUT...
I have a few questions now:
I want to use 3G but at the same time I don't want the signal to fluctuate between 2G and 3G—want to get constant 3G connectivity without signal fluctuations. Is there any way I can fix that?
I remember reading somewhere that going to recovery and changing permission helps this.
Anyone knows how to change the permissions so the signal fluctuations stop?
I have done a lot of reading on XDA but I haven't noticed an issue like this.
CM9 guys, anything please...

I have the same issue mate...using 2G is the only option to get signal without any problem.
The problem doesnot lies on your phone but the problem is with the operator. The area where you live hardly 3G signal reaches there (same problem with me).
You got two options to fix this issue:
1. Change your Network Operator
Or
2. Settle to another location where 3G signal is fully available
Sent from my GT-i9100 equipped with Grenade Launcher and Remote Explosives
Both the options look impossible for me at the moment.
I will start living with the hope that the operator brings us some decent 3G signal here.
Thanks a lot anyways. It was helpful. Hope others facing the issue can learn from this thread. :good:

Complain to your provider, very loud!
:gooditto the same problem occured to me on Vodafone (Chennai) tried all modems listed above nothing worked ...Used to lose signals all the time with 2g data on especially at my workplace intermittently for 3-4 months ever since I upgraded to ICS..Sometimes used to lose signal even if data was off..multiple reboots/restarts gave no solution ..issue persisted across all the 15+ roms i might have flashed over the past 6 months..
Finally fed up I ported the number to AIrtel..everything works like a charm on JV9 I must say now..can vouch it's a network issue at the location
I am getting constant 5 bars on the 2G network. 3G gives me 2 bars at max.
Asked Vodafone about the future of 3G in my location and they said "We are spreading, sir. We will keep you informed".
I've had this problem too when the phone was constantly switching between 2G and 3G/3.5G. Try adding "Toggle 2G/3G" to notification drawer, set the "Network modes" for it to 2G/3G Only or 2G/3G Only/3G+2G. Switching between modes can take 10-20 seconds, but you should be able to test if you can get good enough 3G only connectivity (in case it is just a network switching problem like for me).
If you want 3G only, Dial *#*#4636#*#* - Phone information - WCDMA only.
Hello guys i'm new here and I am confronting a strange issue with my Note 4 Sm910F, the phone works great ultil I connect it to my home wifi, then the nightmare begins, the wifi works very well but after 20 min my network (3G or 2G or LTE, it doesn't matter) drops but I still have all bars, so I cannot make calls or send messages, if I go to Settings>Networks to switch between LTE 3G 2G it doesn't let me, it stays locked, I must restart the phone to regain celular network and then after a while it repeats the problem again and again. I'm sick of it already, also I tried different roms but no luck, I said that the phone have hardware issues sooo NOW the baddest part is that I sold the phone and bought a fresh new sm910F that DOES THE SAME PROBLEM !!!
I tried with another wifi router, still same problem, my old note 3 works okay on the same wifi.... i`m out of ideas.
Please help with any advice. Thanks.
If Smart network switch is active, turn it off.
That's the only thing I can think of that's causing the problem.

it doesn't matter if I have that on or off...the celular network keeps crashing after a while if I am conected to my wifi. if i'm not using the wifi everything is okay.
Since I got the S8 and enabled wifi calling I've noticed some issues...
Half the time I look at the wifi icon the WiFi calling circle isn't there. No matter if I'm on my 5ghz or 2.4ghz wifi. Same at work or any other wifi. It seems to come and go. Sometimes resulting in messages taking forever to send because it's trying to send over WiFi but it's randomly dropped wifi calling.
I had the same problem on my att S7, so it's not just this phone...
HOWEVER, my TMobile S7E will kick wifi calling on the second I connect to WiFi and will STAY on the entire time I'm on it. I could even turn on airplane mode, then Wi-Fi while I'm at work and not worry about missing anything at all. If I do the same with my att S8, I get flooded with texts I didn't get when I turn airplane mode off and reconnect to cellular.
Anyone else notice the wifi calling is flaky??
Wifi calling works well on my device may be its isp problem

Again, TMobile works on ANY wifi. Any att phone I use it comes and goes or doesn't work at all.

My s8+ and s7e and note 5 WiFi are working fine on any WiFi network. No problem at all. Maybe you got problem with hardware.
On Edge of Galaxy
It only works when the signal reception is poor and turns off automatically when the signal is good.

This is indeed how it works on AT&T and it works a treat. Hand over even works very well when going from inside a building to outside with cell signal.
Except when you don't realize a message didn't send because it doesn't know how to send it or when you turn WiFi off and get a bunch of texts you should've received hours before.

I have not experienced this, sorry.
I am having the problem too.
Maybe enable aggressive handoff in Dev options?
It's all too frequently dropping 4G or LTE connection when on the move. It's showing a connection, good strength too, but no data connection working. Often needing an airplane mode toggle or reboot to get online again.
5G is disabled as I'm nowhere near a 5G area.
Anyone got any ideas? Different firmware or something?
I'm starting to regret moving away from the SD note 10 plus I had. That phone was rock solid.

I read that some people have issues with connection with some ISP providers. Try putting it on 3G and see if it works fine then. If it does then ISP has either sn issue with 4G network or phone needs a firmware fix to solve 4G connection issue if this isn't a hardware problem thought. Since for me it works fine here and my 4G shows all time and I even have 4G+ as status without an issue.
try disabling WiFi calling that helped in my case
Tried all that. Went into a town and it didn't again.. Had to force it onto 4g to get a connection.

Haven't had any issues myself, on giffgaff. Tried O2 briefly, it seemed okay too.

Give this app a try, might help fixing it to one band
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ray.samsungbandselection
Yes u have that thanks. It seems to be band switching that's the problem. Or is it possible my carrier has live but unused bands that the phone is locking into? So when I travel I find myself with a dead data connection?
