Cant detect running apps on Omni LP - Omni Q&A

Im using OmniLP 5.1.1. Rom on my s3 mini (GT-I8190N) . It was smooth and less laggy compared to cm12.1 but the problem is most of the task manager on store cant detect foreground and background app. This makes my RAM higher and my phone get heat fast. Any solution guys?

Since that's an unofficial device, take it up with whoever provided the build.

Opinion: Is the XP Fast or slow?

I'm kind of getting sluggish performance on mine, but only after installing certain applications--even though, I didn't install that many...
Has anyone gotten slow performance on theirs? If so, what was the culprit?
I've never had sluggish performance on this phone :\
I hear of small handfuls of people who do, and don't know what to tell them.
The slowness is caused by bloatware mostly, in my opinion. Rooting is a must for me, never been happier with any phone until I've rooted and removed excess pre-installed apps. Background services of any kind will also bog your phone down. Once my PLAY was optimized, it got WAY faster
Fast at 1GHz. Faster at 1.6. Could be a bit faster sure, but its fine as it is
Slow.
I deleted all the bloatware. Have Ram Manager installed and still slow. I don't know what's wrong.
Do you guys have animations enabled?
Fast. Rooted, OCed, .64 firmware. I'm not waiting for much of anything on this thing.

Yep, All Animations.
I really wish I knew what to tell people too. I do have it upgraded to 2.3.4, rooted, ADB setInstallLocation optimized and de-bloated, but aside from that I haven't even gone as far as to continue my tradition of slamming Chainfire 3D on everything. And it was smooth even back on 2.3.3 when I was up to my knees in bloatware.
SD card class maybe?? I've heard stories that, while higher class cards are usually good, they result in sluggish performance on smartphones.
Mine is pretty fast as it stands.
I have a task killer app and just installed 2.3.4 on my R800at.
I get a freeze up every now and then but usually only when I forget to kill some apps before loading something. But the homescreen is usually always fast, even when I only have 44mb of ram left.
Task killing+removing bloatware is a definite way to increase performance. Im not overclocked at all and dont have any problems.

mine too slows down after installing so many apps/games eventhough i deleted those bloatware..
i have locked bootloader so no OC.
but now it's fast as brand new after i install the v6 supercharger..

Mines always been fast (till i broke the screen)
the other one im now using seems to be quite laggy when playing GTA 3
though the broken one never lagged once while playing it.
Mines pretty standard, not very slow but maybe some lag here and there. is bloatware the apps that come pre installed?

Here.
My Play is overclocked to 1.6ghz and I use V6 Supercharger. The only time I get any lag/slow down is for about 15 seconds after booting. Otherwise it's incredibly fast and responsive
Mine is speedy, rooted locked booterload 2.3.4

Flashtool and the generic 2.3.4 firmware. Theres a thread for it in the development forum but it's pretty buried. I feel like a lot of folks miss it because of that. It's pretty easy. No unlocked bootloader needed.
And it definitely speeds up the device. For sure.

Task killing is in the long run slowing you down and the worst thing you can do. Let Android handle it, give it a week to learn the programs and your patterns and I guarantee it will be better than when you do it. There have been many articles on this.

This makes no sense whatsoever. But from you I'm not surprised.
As for the OP, I would call it medium. It can be fast when running certain games and programs. It can be slow other times, like when your Message box has a lot of messages, or you're playing a poorly coded game like NOVA 2 which has all sorts of slowdowns. Mine is bone stock with a Class 4 Sandisk card.
Use Task Killer wisely.
My xperia Play(default everything) is only slow when i have Emulators or Youtube in the backround.
When you are Using task Killer DO NOT Kill Apps that you use alot or Apps That you will be using a little while later.
As this will only take more battery as the apps have to boot up again
instead of having it in the back round.
I bought the play thinking it would be better than my last phone ( htc desire ). I thought sense was bloaty but have to say the play has been disappointing. It handles apps and games as well if not slightly better but its the home screen and widgets that seem to lag. I rooted and tried different launchers and have found go launcher best at giving the most features and widgets without lag.

There's just no way to get rid of the lag

I know, it's a 2 year old phone with just 1GB RAM and TouchWiz on top of it.
I've spent the last 2 days trying a LOT of roms to try to make the phone feel faster, because I don't want to buy a new one. I really like this one. The camera is AMAZING, decent battery life, love blocking mode, etc. As a phone it works great: good speaker, strong vibration, great signal, etc.
But there's one single thing that makes this phone feel "old": the speed. Just the speed. If it were faster and more fluid then there would be absolutely no reason to upgrade to the new phones (except, well, maybe more RAM and battery).
Yesterday I tried like 15 AOSP roms: CM11, temasek, ultimaAOSP, NeatROMAOSP, Vanir, AOKP, SlimKat, etc.
Nothing. It's slightly faster, but the problem is the animations. They just look wrong all the time. There's frame drops everywhere. And bugs and crashes, so back to Samsung stock today. Tried another 10 samsung based roms. Nothing new. Speed is still the same and frame drops are still there...
I guess I'll have to end up buying a new phone, but definitely not a flagship. I'm looking at midrange phones that come with AOSP. Found one with 2GB RAM, 13Mpx camera, 2500 battery, 5 inch 720P IPS screen, microSD and dual SIM for 199$. Great price, and comes with 4.4 stock Android.
Tried the phone at the store the other day and it just made my SGS3 look like the midranger, and that with a MediaTek A7 1.3 quad core!
+++
Exactly. Well, animations are smooth on AOSP with right kernel, but still not as it should be. This phone sucks when it comes to UI performance.
Now I even got broken camera and media playback, too, after stressing it with every new test on my phone.
Well, probably this phone worked the best with 4.1.2. I think it's all about crappy processor, called exynos.
EDIT: Btw,you can try archidroid 1x with his boeffla presets, though. After all,it's not that bad.
I think you are just setting unrealistic expectations if none of those ROMS, without TouchWiz, were any good for you.
There is nothing crappy about the processor mate. your case is an isolated issue. If the archi ROM is not smooth for you then there is something wrong with your phone.
it's always wise to stick to ROMs and kernels which are built using proper sources.
Do not restore a massive amount of data soon after a flash. Let the ROM settle a bit. Trim your device memory once in a while.
Also a megawipe is recommended after so many flashes.

I put Cyanogenmod CM11 on mine after updating to stock 4.3. It felt like a completely different phone and brought back the speed. It absolutely flies and battery time is double what it was on stock 4.3.
I tested alot of Roms but regading speed and batterylife i use Temasek with Yank kernel. No OC and de S3 flys.
Oh god, it's like reading a thread I could have written myself. I feel you, mate. Got the same damn frustations sometimes.
It seems that whichever ROM "camp" you choose, you're gonna have drawbacks. Tried so many different variants of TW-roms and i just feel they are all too slow and with lags.
Many of the AOSP-roms are quite fast (using ArchiDroid atm which is incredibly fast!) but then you get the problem of crappy camera, no Allshare, tethering issues, many games that have sound-issues and all those random bugs we all know about but try to live with
Perhaps the new Kitkat port can solve these issues but it seems there is a lot of work to be done still. Still I'm glad there's a community like XDA with such awesome people (Like Kryten who posted earlier ) who put the time into developing these things.. Or we would be stuck with even slower ROM's from Samsung.
Is there any way to get rid of it, or at least reduce it?
Install smart droid, further debloat, run greenify and boeffla, custom launcher and its quick, no lag
Even the s5 can't run without lag using Touchwiz.

Yes there is, activate Developer Options by tapping on the Build Number in About Phone. In there are 3 settings for animations. The 1st thing I do on every rom is decrease them to 25%. On CM11 and temaseks builds you have a slider which allows you to fine tune the settings instead of the picker which you find on other roms.
My personal experience is that OmniRom is just snappier than any of the others, even when I have a whole bunch of apps open, incoming calls get displayed almost instantly, the dialer and contacts open almost instantly. In my case of course. Everyone has their favourite rom/kernel combination. I have also had great success using Yank555's kernel with the default settings (which include a slight overclock with no noticeable battery drain.
So my temporarily solution is to completely disable the animations in developer settings.
It's a good solution, for now.
My combo right now is stock Samsung 4.3 debloated (many useless apps freezed. Other apps freezed also using Titanium Backup) with Boeffla kernel.
It gets annoying when animations aren't smooth and consistent, but I guess it's expected when Touchwiz is on top and just 1GB RAM.
Taking about RAM, this phone has almost no multitasking also! It's impossible to keep one Chrome or Internet tab open in the background while you do something else. When you go back to the Internet app it has to reload again.
And no custom rom can fix this either. I spent one week with AOSP Vanir rom and didn't had multitasking there either.
What I'm trying to say is that this phone has turned old faster than it should have, precisely because of a bad 4.3 update by Samsung and also just 1GB RAM.
And talking about speed and lag again, trust me, I've tied all the good roms available. It won't matter if you install a custom kernel. If you overclock the phone then battery will last even less than before, and it doesn't make a huge difference in speed animation and fluidity.
I'm sure AOSP roms like CM11 and others do work faster and more fluid in newest phones like G2, SGS4, HTC One, etc. It's because they have a better processor and 2GB RAM.
In the end I think it's the hardware that's to blame for the lag (and bad 4.3 update by Samsung too).
The phone is great otherwise. I love almost everything about it, like I previously said. Most times I can't believe how good the camera is, the screen is enough for me (no need for 1080P), size and weight is perfect, etc.
I would have preferred to own the US SGS3 model with it's 2GB RAM than the EU model. In the long run I think it's better.
But anyway, the lag is not huge, just annoying. And I only notice it when opening and closing apps.
Try entering development settings and change the animator duration scale to 0.5 the transition animation scale to 0.5 and the window animation scale to 0.5
It will make anything faster

You don't understand it.
It doesn't matter the scale animation (just tried with 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 again), there's still frame drops everywhere.
It doesn't make anything "faster". It's even more annoying watching the frame drops at 0.25.
It's not a solution. There is NO solution to the animation frame drops, not even on custom roms...
Only "solution" is to turn animation scale completely to 0.
I have sgs3 intl and I had a lot of lags and frame drops and I switched to CM 11 nightly and it's became faster and no frame drop and it's like new.

Alright,my last bet will be to go on Archidroid stock based ROM,use it's own boeffla preset setting and turn animations to 1.5x. Animations will be smooth all around, only custom launcher is needed, because when opening or closing apps on touchwiz,it's still stuttery. I'm still using touchwiz launcher, though (lovely animations all around!).
I noticed 1.0x is the worst speed for animations on stock ROMs. I mean, with 1.0x,I notice some fps drops much more when opening a new windows with animations. Like it's too fast for CPU to tune right time for speed and animation and that makes it laggy. So it's all about wrong timing,as 0.5x also feels much more smoother,it's noticeable.
But the 1.5x setting compensates that. No more stuttery animations at all and it feels pretty beautiful. This was my last solution for stock touchwiz ROM,and I'm pretty happy. Try it yourself.
EDIT: Btw,if you also want to keep touchwiz, try xposed app settings, find there touchwiz launcher and tick the checkbox for "resident" option. That way it will keep the launcher in memory hardly,so when you will go back to launcher , shadows under the icons won't redraw and thus stuttery animations will be reduced and will happen much more rare.
On multitasking, try maximising your swap. Never have problems going from Chrome, email, FB etc. Also try removing apps 'receiver' settings, so they don't open on unlock, wifi connect etc..

There have been a select FEW roms that solved most of the issues you talking about, but they mostly old and the developers have moved on. The truth is, AOSP kitkat isnt optimized for our phones and you most likely wont find a stock based ROM that doesn't lag. I think the main culprit is Jellybean + Samsung together. I don't ever recall ICS having frame drops or lagging really. Samsung did a crappy job optimizing jellybean for our phone. Jellybean is hardware intensive, more than ICS and Kitkat. Seems like it was a temp solution while Google worked on KitKat and now our phone is unfortunately stuck there.
Do yourself a favor and don't get a Samsung if you want proper performance.

I'm really not happy with performance?

Hardware is fantastic, its let down by software. I will be honest on 4.4.2 performance wasn't that special either. I came from a Moto G, a phone with 1GB ram and 1.2 Quadcore CPU and performance wise it beats the S5. I upgraded to lollipop and well things have just got worse. For instance pressing the gallery takes 3+ seconds to open, same with making a call, and quite often when I hit the home button it redraws which indicates RAM is getting used up and needs free'd.
If you came from something like an S3 I'm sure this phone would seem like lightening, but coming from a stock android experience it is slow.
The question is how do I fix this? I did factoy reset after lollipop update which helps a bit but it soon bogs down again, an issue with 5.0 apparently. I have tried Nova which helps a bit but underneath its still running TW which I thinks the problem.
1)Use xtrestolite rom (free bloatware, u install only what u want..)
This is the most important thing I can suggest to you .. And flash rom fresh (I mean.. Wipe clean.. Etc)
2)if u want u can restart your phone once a day... IT will run a lot better after restart...
3)use performance governor cpu
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app
This video has just demonstrated what I thought.
I mean how does this happen?
As mentioned above, nstall xtrestolite 4.4.2 if you want lag free, bloat free, optimized TW experience. You will get better battery, 0 lag and slowdown. It's simply butter smooth.
Don't go to TW lolipop because it's just not ready yet.
If you want to go an extra mile try CM12 based L roms like Temasek's or BlissPop variant. Pair it with ktoonsez kernel and you will practicaly have a new device.

Problems with Goldeneye

Hey guys I just installed Goldeneye on my ATT S4. The reason I left 4.4.2 was to hopefully gain a little more speed, I play a game on my phone all the time called Ace Fishing and every now and then I get a reduction in frames that really hurts me ingame.
Well I updated per instructions for Safestrap users and everything got up and running no problem, but this rom uses alot more RAM than the previous version and the lag has gotten atleast twice as bad since upgrading. I always clear activities and clear ram before launching. Its fine for 5 minutes but then all the background tasks start kicking in and when I check it says 1.37gb in use! 4.2.4 I had down to 535-605MB in use while playing. I have disabled every running app I see in the application manager (that it will allow me) I have also done all the tricks I can find online, like disabling S voice, force GPU rendering, I even tried setting limit background process to no background process which made no difference.
Is there anything I can do to make this rom run as fast as 4.4.2 or atleast cut the RAM it uses in half like it was?
(I chose goldeneye full install not slim, would slim be faster?)
Thanks!!
Atually Stock Lollipop is slow as hell compared to KitKat. I've been using GE for some time and I had to go back to 4.4 because the phone was really slow, I mean... Really. I recommend you to install Pure Nexus ROM, I personally think is the fastest. There're also some ROMs LP bases which were compiled preferably for gaming. Search for ROMs in the "Android Development" sub-forum.
Wish you luck.
I found a solution. I bought a galaxy note5. lmao

new Samsung S5 mini user in 2019

Hello,
After changing tons of phones in last weeks/months, i finaly got my s5 mini, my dream phone it seems. It is of a perfect size for me and it is very grippy due to rubber back cover. Now i want to improve it as much as i can. I want to stay on stock 6.0.1 rom (unless u see there is any point in downgrading ?). I will first say what i did and then ask what i can do to improve it further.
What i did:
1. turn all animations to 0 in developers options
2. turn off s voice
3. disabled all apps i could that i dont need
4. turned off a bunch of other things i dont need
What i need help with:
1. what else can i do to further improve performance
2. google maps app seems a bit slow. Any way to improve it or is this phone simply to weak
3. any tips for camera, how to take better photos/video, any settings i should change ?
No one ?
Hello,
I personally think its kind of funny that someone says that the s5 mini is their dream phone in 2019. I mean its kind of old and outdated now and while I can of course understand that you like the size of it and the rubber back, there are many alternatives which also dont break the bank. I think without rooting or flashing another Rom, your experience is not going to get better than it already is. The s5 mini is not the most powerful phone you know. Anyways I used a galaxy s5 mini from 2014 untill 2018 and I was never really happy with it. It was always slow and sluggish, though the camera was good for 2014 and what I really liked about it was its ip67 certification, I got into the pool with it xD. I ran it on Android 4.4.2 for most of its live, mainly because I rooted it in 2015 and thus couldnt update to a newer version of Android. But in late 2017 I decided to factory reset and flash a stock Android 5 Rom via Kies. After that I updatet to 6.0.1 Marshmello, but in early 2018 the hole thing was to slow for me and I threw a custom Rom on it. Android 8 but it was in beta and very buggy so I flashed Resurection Remix with Android 7.1.2. It was already way faster and more modern than on the stock Rom. But then I found a Kernel that would let me overclock the cpu from 1.4 Ghz to 1.6 Ghz and the Gpu from 400 mhz to 600 mhz. So i used that Kernel and the phone was actually very useable. The first time in 4 years of ownwership, I was really happy with my s5 mini. I bought a new phone (Honor 9) though only like 6 weeks after flashing the Kernel lol. The Honor 9, after 1 year has never let me down tough and im very very happy with it.
S5 mini G800F
Hi there,
I'm happy with my S5 mini (G800F), but I really need an Dual SIM device with better battery life and will have to get one soon. Battery life is weak point.
I have installed LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1.2), didn't have success to install Gapps though. Using F-Droid and YalpStore. There are some bugs with the camera (it stops working) but after restart works fine again.
It is an OK device, but a bit slow and with short battery life.
Unfortunately from 2-3 weeks there is a problem with my main microphone and is not the mic itself but some motherboard bad connection or something. Works fine with headset but it is not really convenient
According to some people if one switches Off the LTE the battery life is better.
Instead of Gmaps I'm using HereWeGo, OruxMaps and Sygic - all for free.
About the camera: I am using Open Camera. The camera app of LOS 14.1 is really plain Of OpenCamera I like the DRO option, but it takes a few seconds to generate the picture.
Hope you will find the best way to use your S5 mini. It is very cute device with so many advantages like notification LED with RGB, ambient light sensor, NFC, IR, AMOLED, small size and weight... I will miss all of this in such a small and ergonomic package.
I understand your point. There are no more under 5" devices with normal specs. So sad...
Best regards!

I recommend the unofficial LineageOs 16 custom rom for you. This is the most stable rom I’ve ever seen for the S5 mini.
Only Requirement is to have the G800F model.
Otherwise you will break you phone.
Im running CrDroid 5.12 on my g800f with the Spookcity Kernel and Magisk. Although I'm using a Oneplus 5 as my main device I'm very happy with the results. You can run Android P roms like Posp, LineageOS, CrDroid, bootleggers or Aosp (extended). I think you can get very happy using POSP with Open Gapps nano/Pico. But CrDroid is the only rom, which is getting updated. It also is the only Pie rom supporting NFC.

This might be a pretty late reply, but I hope it can help.
If you want to stay on Marshmallow, I would really recommend rooting your device. I can't tell you exactly which, but you can deactivate a lot of system apps with root, which can improve performance in some scenarios (Look at some debloat script from other Samsung phones - a lot of the apps are the same). For deactivating system apps I use this app. Alternatively you could try to deactivate system apps without root with ADB.
In my opinion the Google apps are all very slow and all the system apps slow your device down a lot (from my experience the Google Play Services and especially the Google Play Store), which is why I either use microG on the Stock ROM or at least deactivate what I can.
Sadly you can't push much more performance out of this phone, especially not without a Custom ROM. It has four pretty weak CPUs and one really bad GPU - don't expect to be able to play any even slightly demanding games, better stay at those 2D titles. The only way to make it feel faster is to use the lightest
- OS (in my opinion any Android 6 ROM)
- system apps (disable unnecessary-seeming ones - but be very careful!) <- of course only on Stock ROM
- third-party/user apps (if an app is slow, look for alternatives - for example you could look at OSMand or MAPS.ME istead of Google Maps)

The Google app is a mandatory update with the new Play Store layout and app updates eat into the storage of the phone.
