I don't get it. We have an X Style (Pure) Themes and Apps thread, but you cannot ask questions in it like where do you get a nice dark theme and can you theme the stock rom?
Okay I have not found any suitable custom roms for this phone, they seem to introduce more problems that are not there in the stock rom. But we do have things like Nova Prime Launcher, Xposed modules, and of course, root. And I really want a nice dark theme for this phone.
But all of the themes I have found seem to need a custom rom to install with a theme engine. Can we actually theme the stock Pure rom and how would you do it? And, does anyone know of some nice dark themes to choose from?
I really love this phone and don't want to wreck it with an alpha rom so sticking with stock. Please have some good news for me and us! :fingers-crossed:
Thank you very much!
When you have root, you can always try layers manager. Works very good with stock rom. Just install it from the google playstore.

Make sure you have a backup first before trying layers. I've tried using it a few times on stock and TruePureX and I start getting bootloops.
Besides that the only method I know for getting a dark theme is manually decompiling a few of the system apks, changing resources, recompiling, and then flashing the edited apks. That's the method I've been looking into in my freetime. I've had some results but I haven't gotten all the colors like I want them nor figured out where all the resources are yet. I was able to get most of the quick settings themed decently and some progress with Settings. If I do get it working without any noticeable color issues then I'll be giving the flashable zip to the guy working on the TruePureX rom seeing that is the rom I'm on.
(The colored status bar, navbar buttons, and extra quick setting tiles are from using Gravity Box and Xblast Xposed modules. The dark/transparent stuff is the resources I changed though)

I have been using smart launcher. Best launcher I have used. And i have used them all. Takes getting used to but its worth trying. They have full themes on play store. DT2S works. I really am surprised more people don't talk about it.
Of course you could dive in and start modding. Above my pay grade. Anyways, good luck.

Yeah, I am starting to learn that if I cannot have a custom rom, a really launcher can do most of what I want and really, that is good enough for now. Using Nova Prime as a lot of my friends have recommended it and, it really has opened a lot of customization doors that the stock Google Now launcher simply cannot do.
Never heard of Smart Launcher but have it in my sites now, thanks!
Modding? No, I skipped that in favor of electronics school, long ago. Just have to wait for someone who is good at it, releases something I/we can use, and be grateful for it.
I can confirm layers on a stock ROM doesn't work. Just hangs after boot animation and requires restore from backup. I'd kill for can dark theme on stock or working layers.

Excuse me, what exactly are "layers"? I hear this term a lot and do not quite understand what it means. My phone is rooted, I use Xposed, and my most recent rom was CM11 on my previous phone, the Droid Razr Maxx. But still, what is this "layer" thing you guys talk about?
I am with you, siralsmooth. Dark Themes are so much nicer to look at, easy on the eyes, and I would kill for one too!
Layers is a theme manager that was implemented into AOSP by Sony to become the standard theme engine in android. I used it on my nexus 6 and loved it.

Anybody notice the theme chooser in cyanogen 7 build 8, i believe it just came up on the most recent one.
It changes a lot, i choose the "Androidian", and the animation is different, don't know what changes it makes to ADW not fond of that launcher anymore, use Zeam.

I bet this will introduce a change in how we theme CM7..
no more flashing zips in recovery; I bet there will be an implementation to import the theme somehow directly from this app..
Just another reason why Cyanogen just puts EVERY other ROM to shame!
how do you get to the theme setting?
Its in the app drawer.

I really hope so. Obviously right now its very new and not finished so I can only comment on what I have seen so far but its pretty limited on what it actually changes..
I really hope it eventually is like the MIUI theming system and allows you to change any image pretty much for any app etc. even installed apps..
This is going to be a nice addition

I have a feeling it will, considering they opt-out for the changes in the status bar, there might be integration into the theming that way. Think it will be nice if they made a windows application similar to blackberry theme manager, where any common joe can make a theme. And do you think each theme will work on every device? So every theme developers can work as one and apply it across all devices? I really hope so.

This should be added to the OP. First thing I did was go to Cyanogenmod Settings.
On that note though: anyone notice things are moved around quite a bit in the CM settings? Took me a second to flip through them to find everything but it seems like a more logical layout. I'm just glad the "Dragons Ahead!" warning is still in place.

yeah, I noticed that..I assume its because there are going to be some new menu items added throughout the settings menu, and they are changing the layouts now to be ready for when that happens..
Its nice to find new/different stuff in this ROm!
This has a lot of potential to make theming easier & quicker. Could be cool to not have to flash a theme & just go to the theme app & change themes. This is a win for me.

Oooh it changes the theme for the camera app as well! I'm very pleased with how CM7 is progressing
This is a port of the TMobile theming engine. TMobile posted the code on github and the CyanogenMod team was able to use the code under the Apache license. Cyanogen posted comments about it on Twitter yesterday.

I love cm just as much as the next guy, but more of an FYI; MIUI has a SUPER slick theme changer that links to a webserver, directly downloads, etc. So while this is awesome it's not the first time I've seen something like this.

Team BAMF Presents.. Matte HD v1
Okay guys, now that I spent most of my free time this weekend mucking around in our frameworks, it is time to release the beta version of Matte HD for you guys. I hope you enjoy my hours of piddling.

This theme is framework only right now, and I'm not even totally happy with it yet. In the coming versions I will be reworking the status bar and pulldown, theming more aspects of the UI, Dialer, etc. As always, it's up to you guys to weigh in on what direction you would like this theme to go. More color, less color, etc. Just let me know! The best feature so far of this theme is the modded AOSP lockscreen. I reworked the xmls so that now the AOSP lockscreen background image will be whatever is default_wallpaper.jpg in your framework. To get the effect pictured above I made a wallpaper with a transparent rip through it so that you're homescreen wallpaper shows through which creates a great effect. I also nuked all the text besides the clock. I will be posting a tutorial in a day or so as well as a PSD so that we can make different lockscreen images and use metamorph to quickly apply them.

Perfect! I'm one of the Sense haters. This is gonna be great! Thanks again guys for these great quality ROMs.
Looks good, but flashed so many goodies today on the remix I can't change now, lol.
Nice, the best ROM on the TB just hit a wider audience. Sense has grown on me though and I have no desire to leave BAMF remix
Haha good to hear it guys, this should hold over the purists. Will update accordingly with the others but should need way less "supervision" in this thread.. It's the tried and true base with no sense to confuse anyone. I'd like for someone versed in Android to help moderate this thread. PM me if ya wanna help out.
Butchdude, would you happen to know if zhp pilots mods like red 3g/4glte icons and his battery mods would work with this Rom or do we have to wait for him to reconfigure?
IN!
gonna try this right now

The battery mods will work with this ROM but will also theme this ROM with the Remix pulldown as it is all located in framework-res.apk. If you are okay with losing the pulldown in the above screenshot, by all means flash away.
PS: NOW, I'm goin' to bed.
Dammit. BAMF remix is so good and all the mods... Oh well downloading now ROFL.

Different custom ROMs sometimes come with themes you can flash. If you're not rooted, you're not going to be able to apply a theme anyway.

Unless you mean something like a custom Launcher. I use KJY's ROM but I have ADW launcher EX running on my tab. If I can recall correctly I think its the only custom launcher that has honeycomb support. With it I can change the icons to whatever I like (but your home, back and task switcher buttons will always look the same unless you download one of KJY;s themes, which are pretty slick).

Alright 2 launchers, but ADW is a little more affordable. I know the other launchers work too, but most of them you can't get from the market because they are deemed "incompatible", you will have to get them from other sources.
ADW actually has a tablet interface. I have attached a screen shot of it.

That's what Android is all about right? Choice
I am currently using the SPB Shell 3D. I do really like it. I would however love to have the Go Launcher. That's what I use on my phone and I love it. I don't have any reason aside from themes to root my Iconia, so I won't. I think the Go Launcher and ADW Launcher are about the best options for theming for now.
i have adw launcher ex but I was talking about different flashable theme with a whole new look with different fonts and buttons colors etc...
Yea agreed but I wish go launcher tablet would be available cuz the current version lags during screen transition and after about an hour of use it asked about my resolution in which case it changes it to tiny mode with icons the size of half of the original .. I think every launcher development team is now seeing that tablets tegra 2 10.1 are dropping in price so more people are picking them up before they are discontinued for new tegra 3 devices.

I've done actual full reboots like a million times, still don't none of the 20 themes show up. I'm using CM 12 from 1/26/15. also I keep getting corrupt bload error when attempting to update CM 12, I wanna blame it on that but I don't know what's the problem for sure.

Really nice Themes for cm12. Using them on OnePlus One..
I have one quesiton: Aren't themes Sharable, via sharing apps like ShareApps or ShareIt? I did not find these themes in the available app list.

So it's a CM thing, I switched to screw'd android last night because the theme issue and the themes work just fine and load fine now.
I lowered the DPI on my Note 4 (910F) via terminal with
Code:
wm 520
and now on the main screen there's a huge gap between the bottom icons and the apps icons area. same for the apps drawer as you can see in the photos.
I'm not very keen on the idea of installing a launcher. from what I've seen the coords for these areas should be in a file somewhere. does anyone have any ideas?

If you are rooted you can use one of those exposed modules to apply different dpi per apps. Otherwise you cannot re-engineer Samsung apps for different dpi, at least not in an easy manner.
Sent from my mobile device.
yeah, I thought about that. but that's not the ideal situation as the main reasons why I lowered the dpi was so the icons on the home screen and drawer would be smaller and I'd have more room, also so fonts and elements across the system would be smaller. I just think it's a real waste to have a device with such a large screen and everything looking so big. not to mention the fact that it's bad for privacy as any one within a few feet can clearly see what's on the screen.
I'm using a launcher for the time being, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to.

this isn't about whether stock launchers are good or bad. I personally hate TouchWiz because it's too colourful, too childish for my taste. but throwing another launcher on top of it is just not the ideal. when you use a launcher, you're not replacing the stock one. the stock launcher is still running behind the scenes eating up resources as far as I know. so you have to compromise: you either put up with something ugly and not that useful or you lose processing power and consequently battery.
the only reason why I'm sticking with the stock ROM for my Note 4 is because I've tried all S-Pen apps/mods for custom ROMs I could find and none, absolutely not one of them works as well as the one the comes with the phone. and I use that a LOT!
I don't need multi-windows, I don't need fingerprint scanner, I don't even need the camera to be honest. I need the S-Pen to work flawlessly. and until I get that on a CM ROM I have to find a way to deal with my problems with the stock ROM.

try custom stock ROM such as DR.Ketan latest ROM DPI is 560.
Or just root then xposed. What I do with stock rom remove cap and tweak it.

phone is rooted and xposed. I couldn't find a module for the xposed frameword that would handle that. I'm not sure now as I've read through so many threads my memory is a bit scrambled at this point, but I think the guy who created XTouchWiz said he would not take requests. I think if anyone knew about this setting it would be him, I'm thinking about PM'ing him.
on a note, I am a developer and I find it very unlikely that the width and height for those areas would be hardcoded.
