Now for the fix
Go to the phone app and type *#9900#
Change debug mod to high
The device will reboot and when it boots up the lost 330mb will back
Thats all
Thanks..it worked.
If you don't mind, shall I ask, what this setting actually does?
Was this part of RAM intentionally blocked by Samsung?

Yeah they blocked it on lollipop thinking that it will improve the performance in exchange of multitasking but it didnt achieved any of theme i dont know why didnt they disabled it before lunching the update :\
But is supposed to be 1.5G of RAM, why is just 330 mb not 500 mb?
Sent from my SM-G800H using XDA Free mobile app
I actually think Samsung does that with every update to artificially age the device to push sales of newer devices.
Though it might as well be part of internal testing at Samsung that was forgotten. Only time and future updates will tell.
Conspiracy theories aside, thank you very much for the trick. Really helpful. Does debug mode use more battery though? I would imagine the system log going crazy with this option.

173mb is used for the system so the device still responsive even if the ram is full

Its good and very nice looking alot of improvement especially the finger scanner but the multitasking of the kitkat is better
still you can improve that with some tweaking check my post (unleash the power of galaxy s5 mini ) on the themes and apps section
also ive made a fast review of the rom on YouTube in case you're interested

Thanks for your relentless efforts in supporting our less popular G800H. I have been testing this fix from the day you posted it and I feel that the phone has become more responsive and fast. Free RAM is close to 500 always and there is no impact on the battery drain as well. Keep up your good work. I also noticed that setting Debug Level to Mid also restores RAM.

I have a question... Does a sim need to be in for the dialer code to work? When I dial #9900# and hit call I get a "Not registered on network" pop-up. I may have uninstalled something I shouldn't have debloating this morning...

No, because then who are the dumb a$$es going to blame and bug if it does not work, or breaks something.
Not a smart idea for a dev to post something that they are not sure of, and possibly have people lose faith in that developer. I know as a dev I would not post ANYTHING, that I was not sure if it worked or not. Even if I did it on a test unit, and not a retail phone.

Send me the stock boot image please so I can root it.
Mark.
Unless you're going to install a custom ROM, it's not as important anymore to root these phones.
The SIII lets you uninstall [disable] almost any stock app you want.
After disabling a ****-load of stock apps, I am getting awesome battery & performance from my S III.
I'd like to see some theming and custom ROM's and overclocking though of course.

Eh, that's debateable. In the end it boils down to what you want to do with the device. For me? I want root so I can reinstall Cerberus to the System folder so even if someone wipes my phone, I can still track it. Can't do that without root.

Actually most of the AT&T stuff can be disabled. The only thing I really can't disable is AT&T Address Book. Other than that? Every AT&T App (all 5 of them) was able to be disabled.....so I'm not sure what you speak of.

Yea, this is actually the first AT&T Smartphone where I haven't cursed them out for the amount of bloatware installed. Granted I did immediately load Apex Launcher to tide me over until I can install CM9. I hate how touchwiz looks, but that's not AT&T, that's Samsung. This thing honestly speeds along, especially with websites. I'm also apparently in an LTE test area.....with a piss poor signal I was pulling about a 20mbit download and 13 mbit upload. I have to say, it's faster and more responsive than my GSII with CM9. That's impressive considering it is running TW.
Also from looking at his posts he did order it....so he could be using the GNex until he can. Though this pretty much is the GNex....just not running stock Android.

Can you explain how such a thing could cause such a failure?
Its looking to update something that isn't there. When it doesn't find it, the update doesn't know what to do, so it fails.

He is correct about this. If you delete or remove anything system wise make sure you have a back up copy. Come time for an update and that file is not there, it will most likely fail. Make sure you take note of the file permissions also.

This was really simple to delete but what a mistake as I actually want to run it from time to time. If no one can give me a way to download it I will be forced to reset my device as new.
I don't really want to do this but I will if necessary. Live and learn.
SYSTEM Updates do not look after apps present BUT ONLY THE DEVICE SPECIFIC SERIAL NUMBER AND VERSION NUMBER !
System updates do NOT look after specific apps to be present or not.
After major complete updates all system apps disabled are reinstalled and have to be deactivated again .

Hard (factory) reset won't bring any files back. An update however, or a reflash of original ROM will do the trick.
To all saying that removing system files will fail OTA: Stop posting stuff you know nothing about. It's better to shut up rather than guessing.

So if I hit reset and wipe everything it won't restore the tablet like it was when I got it out of the box? You're kidding right! Every other tablet / phone I've ever owned will do so.
I guess I'll just have to back up some data to test this out.

Had the same thing happen with the rezound. If the bloatware was removed it failed to update. If it didn't have the stock recovery it failed to update. Again differences between OEMs as has been stated with Asus having done the something.

Deleting the screensaver app should not cause the ota to fail. Otherwise Samsung wouldn't allow that action to be performed so easily without root. Put it this way... if you can go into manage apps and click uninstall chances are it's not system critical.

i was one of the lucky ones who got the update directly from Nokia Software Updater for Retail it was really nice.. the hit though is we lost some camera quality..
Love this update;
Call Blocking
Storage Checker [That Works]

Mostly fixed "other" storage issue
Camera quality is easily fixed by setting the iso to 200 or up btw.

Seriously, you've never heard of Skydrive?
App settings and data can't be backed up to SkyDrive unless the app itself implemented that feature. Nearly three years since release and MS still hasn't implemented this basic functionality. It's kind of atrocious and makes hard resets / phone wipes from flashing much worse than they would otherwise be.
does this update remove lock from 810 tmobile?
Lock is intact, does full wipe, settings stored by SkyDrive are restored on login to ms. Update goes smooth enough and call block works as well as the storage check app.

As to how bad the backup of settings is androids not much better being a hit or miss process too. Don't expect perfection when no perfect Os can be used to compare too. It took all of two minutes to have my phone back up and running with my settings as they were.

Windows 10 can be tricky. I've had issues in the past issuing any commands to DL mode with Windows 10. This dates back to using my G2. I got it to work this last time trying, but you might have to use another OS if you can't get it to work.

For some reason I thought I read somewhere on the forums yesterday that after a fresh Windows 10 install someone was having trouble with MTP or Send_Command. I've got root running on my US991 now! I seriously blew my entire night downloading root apps, tweaking things, etc. once I got it rooted. I also read over soooo much of this forum that I can't remember what I read where, haha. Good luck!

The commands are in a spoiler box on the second post of the root thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62028523&postcount=2
I'm rooted on the US Cellular US991 10c. After a few hours of installing apps, killing bloatware, tweaking the ui, and setting my dpi to 540 I'm also enjoying better battery life and, for some reason, I'm not heating up nearly as much as before I root. Loving it.
Got a chance to get it done. Easy peasy. WOOHOO. Thanks again to all.

Edit to add:
I really liked doing it this way more than the others I have done. So nice not having to re setup the entire phone after.
Sorry to raise a dead thread but any root for the newest update?

If you're referring to MM Update 20C, then not yet. And I am subscribed here for a reason. I have the same reason, and damned if I will settle with "Sorry no root for you". I have been exploring other options with someone else.

What is the last version that still can get root?
I'm on MM 20a.
I believe it's 10D that can still get root.
As the title states! What is happening with the phone I'm using? Lol.
I'm using RR unofficial!
By all accounts it's a 1+1? Haha.
Also I've paid for the XDA premium app which is pretty much useless now!
What happened?
You know you can manually change it in settings
click one the "OnePlus 5". All the OnePlus devices will pop up, and select OnePlus 5.
It's because you restored the app data from a OnePlus One backup. Wipe XDA app data and it should pick up the correct values.
Happened to me too, just change the My Phone options in the settings.

Might give that a try. Cheers
Like others have mentioned, you can manually select OP5 as your device. The latest test build (opt in through Settings) has an updated device lib though and should detect your device. A new updated beta will be out tonight (supporting the op5) for what it's worth.
Let me know if it's not. Feel free to drop by the Labs telegram and ping me. You can check your model number against the device name here at the open source Device Registry.

You asked if people use labs and I told you they do. It also happens to be a battery efficient app. (Since you were, you know, posting about [battery] efficiency)

Nah it did work, just clicked and changed I just found it odd that it didn't do it from the off.
All good now cheers mate. :good:
PS: the XDA app is one of the few social apps I do actually use, I have used the browser in the past but it's not as efficient for use as the app.

Aye it's decent enough fella, be nice to select text on the fly though or to share a specific post via its actual line number.
Ways around it though I suppose.
In regards to power consumption, it's not anywhere near the top of my battery hog list so I'm not too worried about that.

Aye, unfortunately sharing by post line would mean we'd have to use some kind of complex anchor system since each person's device (or PC) could show different text depending on the resolution, etc.
As for copying text, we had to get rid of inline long press due to an Android bug. Instead you can long press on a post and select copy text, then copy from the dialog that pops up.
