Lux Profiles? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know many people haven't even received their phones yet. But those that did, does anyone have a Lux profile for this phone? I don't like the adaptive brightness on this phone at all. I'm gonna see if I can tinker with Lux a bit and see if I can make a profile. Thanks

Interested to know if anyone's built decent profiles. I started using Lux again and can't seem to get a decent profile setup. feels almost as bad as the stock brightness control.

If you come up with a good Lux Profile please post it here! Having used Lux in the past on many different devices I know what it's capable of. So far I can't get my screen dim enough, which is super annoying at night.
My findings so far:
- Backlight setting does nothing below -1
- I have to "snooze" Lux when installing/updating apps or when approving extra app permissions since marshmallow does not like the overlay.
- Ambient Sensor does not detect dark situations well.
Hope this helps someone. And I hope someone can post a good Lux profile.

Running Lux out the box I am not one for many changes. It is working great on the 6P and I have it setup the same as on N6. I run the wizard and only change few things my liking
Adjust Ascendingly
Using Profile: Day
Only change I set is I hate bright screens in my face in dark rooms like movies, meeting room, bed at night....I have the low "lx" set to -50

Yeah having to disable the screen overlay for all new permissions is a huge PITA but it makes sense. Ive had a hard time finding a setup for Lux I like.

Are you using the paid version? I checked the "Use alternative overlays" in "Advanced" in the Lux app. I haven't had an issue with the permissions since. Hope this helps.

Another option that works if you have root is to check Enable KCAL support in advanced settings.

Anyone Using Tasker?

Anyone using it? how is it? worth the money ? and what it does? please share
Yep, I'm using it. It's quite useful. I've set it up to turn on silent mode when I reach work geographical area using the network to determine location(not GPS). I've also set it up to turn off notification tone at night, but keep the phone ringer on for emergency incoming calls. I've set it up to automatically set max brightness and volume when opening the Youtube app.
There are some limitations since we're running Android 1.6... it seems bluetooth detection support is for 2.1+, so I couldn't set it up to automatically read me SMS messages when it connects to bluetooth in the car for example.
Overall, a great app with tons of potential. However, we're limited by our Android 1.6 at the moment to use all the features of Tasker. Another thing is it seems the author of Tasker hasn't really updated the app in a month or so... but he does have a page up that shows what features he's planning to work on next.
can this app saves u battery?
i am using it and i can say that it is a great app worth buying
i use it for
-to provide notification & LED when battery falls below 25%
-to automatically switch on wifi GPs etc with app context
-custom menu when headphones plugged in
-etc
as mentioned by pally777 in above post "a great app with tons of potential".
BTW the new 1.09 beta has location tracking using CELLID

Possible Cause of Camera White Screen - Gingerbread

I installed DSC 0.61B today. I'm reasonably pleased with its performance, except for 3G not wanting to wake up with the rest of the phone (a known issue). Besides that issue I encountered a problem that plagued me when using StreakDroid. An issue crops up where the camera display turns white, rendering the camera and all apps that depend on the camera useless. It took me three hours to pin down the issue, but I believe I have found it.
Something in LBE Privacy Guard 2.x is causing the camera to cut out on my Streak. Don't ask me exactly what in the app is causing the problem. All I know is that I need to find a copy of the 1.x APK and install it to see if that version also causes the camera to cut out.
To everyone else that has encountered the camera white screen of death, post here whether you use LBE or not, and what version.
EDIT: LBE 1.x also causes the camera screen of death. Guess I'll have to use Droidwall instead.
Yes, the same to me?
My camera display turns white screen, but I dont know how to fix it.
Thanks,
Are you running LBE Privacy Guard? If so, you have to do a factory reset and not install it. If you're not running LBE one of your apps is not compatible with Gingerbread. You'll need to factory reset and install your apps one by one, checking the camera each time. The app that breaks the camera is likely the last app you install. Once you find it, then factory reset (again!) and don't install the incompatible app. Using nandroid backups do not work. At least they didn't for me.
I wasn't kidding when I said it took three hours to pin things down.
Same problem here:
DSC 0.62b & LBE Privacy Guard
==> white screen when using camera
==> white screen when trying to play youtube videos
In LBE Privacy Guard I unchecked "Start automatically at phone boot"
After a restart, camera & youtube worked fine.
Obviously, the LBE app causes the issue.
Unfortunately, Droidwall can't compete with LBE Privacy Guard's features.
So let's find a solution.

That's good to know for the future. People at least won't have to do a hard reset.

Contact the developer, if you can. They seem to have no contact information on their pages. Droidwall may not be able to compete with LBE's features, but it's also not intended to. Droidwall is simply a front end for the built-in IPTables.
I will be looking into Permissions Denied by the man who put out Busybox as an alternative.
I think switching video driver mode to mdp should help.
@_n0p_: LBE Privacy Guard should function regardless of what video mode is used. While I am sure changing the video mode helps, the point is that people shouldn't have to make that change just to use the software. The fact that LBE has a bad interaction with the camera means LBE has a bug somewhere in its code.
I personally think that composition type gpu mode is quite experimental, it functions, but it's not an app fault, if it (probably) uses hw accelerated features of GPU chip, that breaks hw accelerated surfaces on camera output.
What really should be done - is fixing adreno driver/libs that are the real problem.
I've already tried some other adreno drivers with no luck so far, but as we are working on updating and improving kernel so a solution may be found in near future.

Sergei
Perhaps I'm not understanding you here, so forgive me if I restate myself.
LBE Privacy Guard only deals with app permissions and has no control over other hardware or software, especially at the driver level. Yet it's interacting with the camera driver to render the screen useless? If that is the case, StreakDroid is also using the same video mode. The question is whether the other Gingerbread ROMs are encountering this problem and whether they use the video mode you and Streakdroid use.
As a side note, Permissions Denied works perfectly and has no autostart option. This means Sackradi is absolutely correct in that the LBE autostart mode has a problem. So what is the connection between LBE's autostart mode and the camera?
I got your point.
To be more specific - it's not the app that controls harware. It's a bug in video driver function, called by app.
Glad you've found a workaround.
I freeze the LBE by using titanium backup then restart, and then I defrost LBE.
Everything work fine for me until I restart my phone.
I like LBE very much, so I just do the step everytime I restart my phone.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Which essentially renders LBE useless since LBE has to be active to monitor the permissions and deny them as needed. If Permissions Denied has such a monitor, it's written so that it doesn't screw up the camera like LBE does.
I get this issue when I patched libwebcore.so with Arabic patcher. How to change the video mode?
system/build.prop
change
debug.composition.type=gpu
to
debug.composition.type=mdp
I am using Power_rom_lite and this issue was bugging me from last two days, when I installed LBE. I realised the problem during video call on Gtalk. I saw white image in place of my video but other end was able to see me without any problem, only I was not able to see myself. Changing gpu to mdp solved the problem. Thanks a lot.

Turning off touchkeys lights

Hi, is there any way to completly turn off those leds behind touchkeys? (miui 2.2.3 atm), I want them to be off all the time, even if i touch them or have any new notification, i just know where they are, dont need to get blinded every time i use them at night...
ive found something like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473671 for galaxy ace, will this work for sgs?
ive been through variety of apps like 'Keyboard backlight controller' and none of them turned them off, and yes, i tried google, other forums and didnt find solution for this
thanks for help
+1 also for app as mentioned by u.
Just want to share,
But as for me, when i use teamhacksung build 16, i use devil kernel which have touchkey timeout and can be controlled through nstools app.
In gingerbread, midnight kernel has touchkey timeout for 500ms or 0.5s.
Can u please share the app if u find it, here?

Go to Settings>Brightness or whatever its called in english, try manually lowest and highest brightness.
If it works > delete this widget, use better coded ones.
If the screen goes off > hardware issues.

i just try manually lowest and highest brightness. and my screen goes off =(
For brightness, I use LUX app, I manually set brightness levels according to light level!
Asking for help is asking a question so please post threads like this here in Q&A in future. Also try to be as descriptive as possible to help people help you.
Thanks
AvRS
my brightness slider doesn't work at all, tried the lux program, only subzero works but from zero to backlight its the same, no dim to turn off display.
i backed up and reformated and the brightness does work now, my one was stuck at 50%, it broke some time ago, maybe updating to 4.1.2 or developer animations disabled.
i will occur again soon, hopefully google releases another update.

Can you designate certain apps to bypass fingerprint security while in use?

All,
Does anyone know if there's a way to make it when using the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge so that when I'm using a certain DESIGNATED app that the phone would let me BYPASS fingerprint security as long as I'm using that designated app?
For example, let's say I start listening to music on my S7 Edge using the Poweramp music app. While the app is playing my music, let's say the screen turns off (or I turn it off). When I push the Power button in order to wake the screen back up, if I'd selected Poweramp to be a designated app, the phone would skip the fingerprint security measure altogether and just unlock itself.
IS there a setting that can make this happen? If not, is there an APP that can do this?? Please let me know. It would just be nice like when I'm driving if I didn't have to deal with the extra security measure.
Thank You,
RockStar2005
Maybe you could just use the inbuilt feature smart lock? Don't think you can use it for specific apps though it.

mklass,
What do you mean? How do I get to that?
Well if any developers reading this think they can create an app that would accomplish this, please feel free to do so. I would DEFINITELY pay for such an app if one was ever made.
Thanks!
Well I'm using a nexus 5 at the moment and there's a feature called smartlock in settings.
It allows you to bypass security based on certain things like location, if your phones in your pocket, if you connect to a Bluetooth device or a WiFi connection.
I have pattern lock on my phone but as soon as I get home and connect to my WiFi it bypasses my secuiry and I don't have to enter my patten lock, same when I get in my car and connect to my Bluetooth car system.
I think what you're asking for is a custom lockscreen app that will allow you to black list certain apps so that if the app was the last app used before the screen turned off, the lockscreen app would either auto unlock or ask for the security pin check.
It's possible you maybe able to do such a think using Tasker once you can root the s7e.
Tasker can enable and disable the lockscreen depending on what app is in the foreground and so if your music app is active, then Tasker will disable the lockscreen, which when your screen turns off, there will be no lockscreen when you turn it on next, and if you activate an app not on your tasker conditions list, then Tasker will re-enable the lockscreen again (accessibility & root required for sure).
but of course you will need to know that your phone security won't be as good.

Oh ok. I know exactly what you mean now, and yes, the S7 Edge DOES have that feature. I don't have bluetooth in my car so I'm not sure how I do it.
There is a Smartlock option called On-body detection that keeps it unlocked as long as it feels it's being held or is kept upright, but when it is laid down it locks up. Problem is, when I lay it down and let the screen turn off, it still doesn't lock the phone. Ughh!
Sorry that didn't do what you needed buddy

Thanks for that info. That sounds like what I'm looking for, but if it requires a root, I'll have to pass. lol I rooted my HTC One M8 a couple years ago, and it was kinda cool at first, but it's not worth the headache. I really wish someone would make an app that would do what Tasker does but NOT require rooting. Oh well.

Neutron can bypass the lockscreen
Edit: picture added. And it only lets you access neutron, you'll have to input you fingerprint to access any other app. I much prefer neutron to Poweramp for quality and depth of customization too.

yeah root does have its negatives, but the option is yours to just change only what you need, applying root doesn't change anything on your phone instantly, it just unlocks the doors, its up to you if you want to open any of them

is it the actual main Neutron music app screen interface? or is it a lockscreen widget of the app? I'd say disabling the lockscreen would be pretty impossible for a non superuser app. if in fact it is possible, then hopefully tasker could be coded to do the same

It's not as user friendly because it's for professionals. You can literally get lost in the settings. The developers are amazing, its updated often. If rich features and customization are important to you then it's the best music player for you. And afaik it's the only app that can load it's UI before the lockscreen, music player or otherwise.
Edit: and yes it sounds better and is infinitely more tunable than Poweramp. It's the only media player with 64bit decoding. Really, if you're serious about music then get it and spend some time learning about the settings. The possibilities are endless.

sonhy,
I just tried Neutron and it WORKS!!! I applied the "Lock Screen" setting (I don't want Wake Lock b/c it will keep screen on forever, and Power Lock keeps it on if it's plugged in, which I don't want either).
Only thing is, is it known to be buggy? I heard the UI wasn't as good as Poweramp's but that it sounds better, but twice in the last 10 minutes the app froze on me. Not 100% I will keep it but maybe.
Thanks so much again!!

No I got the full paid version a while ago but never really used it. I'll give it more time, but it does what I wanted it to........... it comes up IN FRONT OF the fingerprint scan request on the lock screen. It's not bypassing it, but getting in front of it is basically the same thing. Very cool!
The UI actually isn't that bad once you give it a chance. I need to spend more time with it though, and I would like to compare it with Poweramp for my own knowledge. I've always been interested in music (I play guitar as well). But I have in the last 15-16 mos gotten really into Hi-Fi listening......... including Hi-Res music, using a premium amp/DAC (the Oppo HA-2), and premium headphones as well (the AKG K553). I HIGHLY recommend both! I'd tried the HA-2 against other devices that cost twice as much, and it sounded just as good as them. The K553 I'd pitted against like $400 headphones, and it sounded BETTER than all of them!
With the HA-2 in the mix, I'm not AS concerned about the sound quality of the app on headphones, although the sound is better when I use the better apps vs. like the stock player. But in my car, I'm not using the HA-2, so the greater the sound quality the better!
2 questions for now..........
1) Does 64-bit processing REALLY make a difference? I will test it myself but still good to hear other's opinions.
2) Is there an option like what Poweramp has where Neutron will stop playing when a phone call comes in, and then resume once the call ends? If so, where exactly is it?
Thanks!

Ok I'll test it out tonight perhaps and see if I notice a difference. First I want to compare Neutron to Poweramp. I'll keep 64-bit on for that because I wanna hear how they both sound when at their BEST settings. (EQ will be off on both.)
Ok awesome! Does it also stop when the GPS speaks in the car? I kinda prefer it NOT to stop (Poweramp lets you decide this), but if it does, that's fine.
Thanks!
