Hi everyone, again.
I have attempted to root my phone which doesn't seem to have worked right, yet it says it has.
my phone when I go into the hard reset mode says it is rooted, so I have tripped LG's rootchecker, but I have absolutely no super user access, and I cannot install TWRP, when I type adb shell into cmd all that comes up is the $.
I do not know what to do and because I am too new I am forced to asking here, (not that it's a bad thing, just that I've already asked for a lot of support from the community here, which has been great by the way) I hope someone knows whats going on because it's confusing, I have ADB installed correctly, and I'm having some problems on that end as well, I am going to try installing it from a different computer now though, thanks everyone!
Maybe you're rooted but just haven't flashed Superuser yet?

When using adb, after typing adb shell type "su" and if you get # then you have root via adb; when I rooted my G2 I had temporary root for applications and permanent root with adb. It was weird, but once I flashed twrp it was fine.
When I type SU I get $, so I know I'm not rooted via ADB, and when I try to hard reset it keeps my pseudo root.
Also I don't know how to root with Flash it, and I've tried installing TWRP but it says that it failed, reason for which I'm assuming is because it doesn't have the proper root access.
ALL GOOD
To everyone voicing their help, I thank you very much!
I have everything in order and all is good, thank you once again!!!

I have an lg g2 and just did a dumb thing. I wiped my internal memory so all of the roms I had on the phone are gone. Is there a way I can hook the phone up to my computer as a usb device and reload my roms?
Thanks for the help.
What is LG root checker? Is it like Samsung's Knox? Does it void the warranty if you root?

Install SuperSU app from playstore. If u are in stock KK 4.4.2 install recovery using Auto_rec.apk, which u can down load from the link below,
Download AutoRec.apk (please find it here : http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=13763) app for your device’s model Make sure you choose the right model.
Install AutoRec app like any other APK file You might need to mark the check box of “Unknown sources“.
Open AutoRec app and grant root permission to continue.
It will display a warning message “Modifying partitions is dangerous and we won’t take any responsibility for possible damages you or the app may do to your system. Please use at your own risk.”
Tap on “Yes” to continue
Tap on “Flash recovery” to install TWRP custom recovery Don’t touch your phone while flashing.
After finishing installation, it will display “Recovery installed succesfully. You may now reboot to recovery“ (install oneclickrestart.apk from palystore for this)
Yes, I've searched and worked for hours on this. I keep hitting a brick wall.
D800, rooted, TWRP, KK rom.
Even though I didn't ask for it somehow the OTA must have installed because my phone rebooted and then was stuck in recovery boot-loops. I can't boot into download mode which means I can't restore to stock or do anything. Do I have any options or is it time to head to the ATT store and try a warranty replacement?
Thanks in advance.

Well then if it's not booting into custom recovery/download mode then there is no way for att to see it was rooted so as long as you stick to the ota broke your phone it shouldn't be a problem

I found a post about firmware for this tablet to flash back to stock.

I may not be able to get cyanogen completely running but i can get an initial device tree setup and a twrp recovery made. i just need a copy of the boot image.

I cant download the firmware restore file in the op but that would be the best place to get it. if there is a way to extract the image from the restore file thats how you would get it, example is a tool called unruu for htc devices. other wise it has to be directly copied from the device. if youre lucky the file system includes a path like this
Code:
/dev/block/platform/*something*/by-name/
you can see that with a file explorer like root explorer. With in that path there should be a bunch of partitions listed by name. im not certain of the name of the one id need. it could be aboot or boot or something else.
to copy a partition for me to use, youll need adb shell or an android terminal emulator installed and root.
run terminal emulator or run adb shell
Code:
$ su
give shell root access
# dd if=/dev/block/platform/*something*/by-name/aboot of=/sdcard/aboot.img
or
# dd if=/dev/block/platform/*something*/by-name/boot of=/sdcard/boot.img
youll then have a boot.img or aboot.img on you internal sdcard. let me know if you can get those that way or by extracting it or if you can send me factory restore file and i can try to extract it myself.
I just wonder how well twrp or something will work because of verizons habit of having locked bootloaders.

verizon does love to lock bootloaders. not sure if this is locked or not.
i a not able to download the firmware ether. ive tried adb shell and terminal but get the following on both
tmp-mksh: give : not found
bootloader
it looks like the bootloader is locked, shocker right! it is verizon after all. not sure how locked down it is.
ive tried physical buttons, adb shell and terminal with no luck but this is me we are talking bout. maybe someone smarter can get in

I see the issue. the line "give adb root" was a comment not something to actually run.
commands excluding the line starting with give. and replace *something* with the proper path. for the htc m9 its
Code:
/dev/block/platform/f9824900.sdhci/by-name/
If it doesnt work i can at least get the device tree started.
I know enough stuff to keep me out of trouble with adb/flashing. And based on where I would need to start to try and pull the boot file, I'm lost haha. Anything else and I'd be happy to help with!

So my tablet today prompted me to update to 11A. But since it's rooted it didn't go thru. Does anyone know what we can do with that info? Like to keep root and update?
Came here looking for the same. There's a chance that even after update could root, possibly like g4, but no guarantees. And without ever having a recovery, the only possibility would be with flash fire, but still no guarantees. And we would need for someone to upload a system image to rip for that...
Has anyone found a recovery that works on the VK815 on 5.0.2?
I am wondering if anyone has found a way back to stock so that we can take the upgrade to 11A

I figured since its a Verizon tablet, the boot loader would be locked and I lack the knowledge and experience to bypass it. However I could still get a device tree started
Wouldn't 'dd' with root privileges be enough? It might not be script friendly but ... I've used CM with the stock boot loader before on other phones and the boot loader wasn't a show stopper.
Anyway, it you need an image from me; I'll work it in the schedule.

I think everyone is being cautious knowing how Verizon likes to censor things. Yes, censor is the correct word. They are trying to tell VK815 owners what they can and cannot put on the VK815 owner's VK815.
I'd like to see a dedicated version of linux for the VK815. Later today I plan on emailing LG on that and a few other things.

To obtain the image yes that's sufficient, its when you try to replace the recovery or rom is where the locked bootloader causes issues.

I was thinking that with root privileges one could 'dd' over the boot loader with a new one.
Have you (or do you know anyone who has) been able to compile android-5.1.0-r1 with the LGVK815_Lollipop_Android.tar.gz added on? My attempts fail with a "make: *** No rule to make target `out/target/product/generic/obj/STATIC_LIBRARIES/libtune2fs_intermediates/export_includes', needed by `out/target/product/generic/obj/EXECUTABLES/updater_intermediates/import_includes'. Stop." I'd feel better if I could successfully compile the stock version.

I'd like to start a discussion on unlocking the XA2 bootloader and rooting it. So far, it looks like for Sony devices, you need to send a request through the Sony site here: https://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/
But there is no device selection for the XA2. This is where i'm currently stuck at. Does anyone know of any other way to unlock the bootloader?
Okay got it to unlock bootloader.
Steps:
1. Head to https://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/. Select Xperia XA1 in the dropdown, follow steps, then get your access code.
2. Pretty much follow the steps in that guide from sony, where you get the access code. The only difference was when installing the fastboot drivers. On win 10, i had to go and follow the steps here to install android drivers: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/129174/windows-10-fastboot-driver
After that, fastboot was able to recognize the device and unlock the bootloader.
So now, i guess i'm waiting for TWRP to be released for XA2 to get recovery and root.
I've been looking for a XA2 page for a while. Can we request one?
This is a interesting device and I hope the development community shows some interest too.
What's your impressions of it so far?
Agreed, I'm quite shocked there is no development threads as of yet for this newly released device. Already checked mine, and can see that sky mobile have left it unlockable, so I would also be interested in development for this device.

Same. I bought it off Amazon US and I didn't realize I was buying such a recent phone. To any future devs, add "Night Light" feature and swipe fingerprint to bring down notification bar to any ROMS would make this phone a great sucessor to my Honor 8.
XA2 has been perfect for me so far, coming from Nexus 5x. I mostly use my phone for reddit and podcasts, though. Just need my LineageOS on it.

I haven't been able to root yet. I've only unlocked the bootloader, which hasn't caused any problems with bank of America. on my other phone rooting didn't affect bank of America, however Android pay didn't work, and snapchat can only be logged in before root and not after. once you root, you won't be able to log back in snapchat if you logout, however if you log in it'll stay logged in after root.
I've been having problems with the windows 10 fastboot and ADB drivers. i got fastboot to work long enough to unlock the bootloader but then it stopped recognizing my phone. still haven't gotten ADB to work yet ?*

I think you can sideload with ADB once the bootloader is unlocked. I was under the impression TWRP is like a GUI for ADB. but There's something funky with the windows 10 drivers. it took forever for my phone to get detected in fastboot, and ADB never seemed to work. then, after i unlocked my phone, the PC doesn't even recognize it in fastboot anymore.
likewise, I've always used Samsung phones & odin. This is my first Sony. the lack of root is killing me ?
From what i read, adb sideload requires custom recovery.
Is anyone else on Project FI with this phone? I'm getting awful 4G and wifi performance with the XA2. Constantly losing internet access (even though signal bar is at 5 bars).

for this, you will need a custom recovery GUI such as TWRP. I believe tht all you can do on this device by pressing volume- is access ADB, and volume+ gets you into fastboot, which can be accessed via command prompt on a PC

Isn't TWRP basically just the GUI of all the ADB commands? I was under the impression you could do almost everything you can do in TWRP in ADB CLI mode on a PC ?*
I was under the impression to sideload you can boot with a USB plugged into your computer and your phone press volume- Then the indicator light in the top right corner turns green, and (if the drivers on my PC would cooperate) then it would accept ADB sideload commands. Now, I am unsure of this; that's just what my basic understanding is. If I could get the damn drivers to work right, I could find out for sure ?

I don't know nearly enough about the android ecosystem to comment, beyond what i found. I think adb sideload is a specific command, which requires twrp. But other adb may work? I don't want to risk it yet anyways.
Regarding drivers, did you try the thing i linked in my first post on this thread? My XA2 is still recognized after bootloader unlock with my method.
What do you know flashtool supports our xa2? that I know no because I tried to convert an ftf file but in the device list the xa2 is not there. also does not recognize me in flashmode despite emma recognize it. thank you
I have tried kingoroot over and over and it will not root, is there another way? I have unlocked developer options and this did nothing. Is there any options to be able to boot into safe mode? Or see all of the files and folders available?
