Hey guys,
I've been having an annoying issue where every time I try to open a video in the gallery, the phone asks me what application I would like to open the video with. Every time I respond to the prompt, I always choose to use "Video Player" app and "Always", instead of the "Just Once" option. However, the prompt never goes away. Every time I open a video, it's the same prompt even though I keep responding to Always use Video Player. Anyone know a fix?
I'm rooted, running Gravity Box. I was thinking Gravity Box maybe the problem here because on my rooted S4 I also had Gravity Box installed and had the same issue. I thought it was the Rom's fault though... Maybe Gravity Box is the culprit?
I am not using xposed at this time, but can you just disable or uninstall gravity box, reboot, try it again and see if it fixes it. If that works, then try reinstalling GB and see if it sticks.

hey guys, so i installed mobo player of the market. This player is awesome, however it seems to have installed some form of launcher pro which i cant delete.
It does'nt show up on the application manager. I even tried deleting it using astro (system>app>launcher pro) but it doesnt let me.
my main issus is everytime i press the home key it always prompts me to use either sense or launcher.
has anyone else had this problem or no how to get rid of it
thanks in advance guys
You're not alone. I encountered the problem a week or so back (long press the home button, switch to a recently run app, then short press home - always asked me to choose a launcher even though I had a default set).
I installed two different custom ROMs trying to figure out what the problem was - initially assumed it was some lower level issue rather than a conflicting app. But after some trial and error (adding/removing apps) I discovered that Mobo Player was the culprit.
Looks as though the latest release 1.1.139 fixed it.
Odd...I installed Chainfire using the PowerVR plugin, my browser opens to a white window, and automatically closes almost immediately. I clear the data on the browser, it opens the first time no problem. Second time I open it, it's back to the white window and crash.
I uninstalled Chainfire, now the browser works just fine. Reinstall, same problem pops back up.
Any ideas what I can do? I really hate to have install Chainfire and reboot every time I want to play Dead Space.
BTW, I did try switching the plugin in Chainfire to "none," didn't make a difference.
I'm surprised I'm the only one having this problem. Nobody else has come across this?
This happens to me also... I was wondering what the hell was crashing my browser...
I ran into this problem on my girlfriends S4 last night. When you click on the Play Store icon to open it, the program flashes up for about half a second and then shuts down. No matter how many times you click the icon, the program will not open.
I first tried to clear the data and cache on the app itself. This allowed the Play Store to open up but the first time I would try to update an app, it would crash again. Apparently this issue is pretty common with Android phones but there is a lot of misinformation about how to fix it. Many people were recommending a factory reset or restoring from a backup. Luckily it is a little easier than that.
The way to fix this is go into Settings>More tab>Application Manager, scroll right to select ALL applications. Scroll to the very bottom of the list and you should see an app named "Downloads", or "Download Manager". Select it, and then change it from "Disabled" to "Enabled". For some unknown reason it is getting switched to disabled. It has to be enabled for the Play Store to work.
:good:
Recently I am having notification delays with my S7 Edge G935F. I have read through some posts on this forum and other sources and can't figure it out.
Here are some of the problems:
1. notifications are often delayed for more than thirty minutes
2. if I want to manually check notification when it does not pop up, unlocking the screen does not make the notification show, I have to actually launch the specific app to see the notification
3. It is more than just not showing the notification, when I am using some instant messaging apps (like WeChat), I can't see new messages coming in while the app is running in the front. I have to press the home button and get back to home screen, then re-enter the app, then the messages show up. This happens to many other apps as well.
4. Other things go wrong as well. For example, my Android Auto was set to launch whenever I get into my car and car bluetooth is connected. It is also delayed, by more than hours. It often launches long after I finish my driving and get back home sitting on my couch.
5. Downloading new apps from Play Store has problems as well. It downloads to 100% and just stops there, it does not start installation. I have to use Settings->App to kill Play Store and re-open it to "refresh" it, then it starts to install.
6. After installation of new app, it does not show up on my screen or app draw inside my launcher. I can see the app installed in Play Store. I have to kill launcher and re-open the launcher to make it "refresh" the app list then I can see new app inside the app draw.
I have also tried a lot of ways to fix it:
1. change app to not battery optimized -> didn't fix it
2. update firmware -> didn't fix it
3. factory reset -> works for the first day then it goes wrong again
4. flash to a different firmware (official ROM in different regions) -> works for the first day then it goes wrong again
5. use third-party ROM (Lineage OS) -> completely fix the problem, but too buggy to use
I can see the general idea of what's going wrong, some events happened (connected to car Bluetooth, new messages coming, app finished downloading, new app installed, etc.) and the system is not responding correctly. I am not very familiar with Android development but I feel like something is wrong with the "event handling" or "event raising" inside Samsung's Android system.
Please post reply if you have any idea or are facing the similar problems.
EDIT:
The phone is on Android 7.0, Build Number NRD90M.G935FXXU1DQER
You've stated that flashing the custom ROM solved the problem, so maybe you should try flashing a different rom that's a bit more stable.
From personal experience i can recommend the SuperStock rom. It's stock (obviously) and it's debloated and very stable with pretty good battery life as far as i remember.
there is some info about it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/want-to-root-custom-one-stay-stock-t3631098?styleid=18 (ignore the root part).
Hi,
did you find any solution to this problem ? cause i got the same problem, and i'm going crazy... few months already and can't figure out what is the problem...
the temporary fix i've found is disabling the "google app" in application manager... it fix the problem but i can't use any Google app features (and i like using them...).
I've found few ppl experiencing the same problem searching on internet but no one with a real fix...
if someone more experienced can help debut this it would really mean a lot...
I think it is the battery optimization setting. You may check the settings>battery>advanced settings>optimize apps. You need to keep the apps un-optimized if you want the notifications and sync.
Also, you may check if Sync is on or off.
If these two does not solve, factory reset if you are on stock ROM. If on a custom ROM, you may check a different ROM
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Actually none of this works... The only thing that "fixes" the issue is disabling the Google app in the application manager... That's why its so weird...
The problem started around July/August 2017 for me...
As i discovered that disabling Google was fixing the problem, i assumed that they'll correct it by updating the app... But only one update of the app was ok, all others would make the problems reappear...
Messing with battery optimization settings doesn't change anything for me... Factory reset as well... The problem comes back as soon as the google app gets updated...
Try clearing cache and deleting data from the Google app the time the problem occurs
already tried... doesn't help at all...
The phone arrived yesterday, I started exploring the interface and I noticed a few issues. Most importantly, I couldn't see notifications on the lock screen like the one from a music app that lets you pause, skip a track and so on. Only after unlocking the phone I'd see the notifications. I tried finding a solution in the settings but after changing some stuff (probably) nothing happened. Then, while doing nothing at all, just locked the phone using power button, opened it and boom, there was a notification from my music app (Shuttle). I repeated this to make sure im not dreaming and after changing a track in the app, the notification no longer appeared. I used google to help me find an answer & all I understood so far is that I have to go in the advanced settings, find the so called "Battery Manager" and disable some app profiles. It was said that by default the app's notifications on the lockscreen are blocked for power saving and by changing these profiles and also tweak some stuff in "Notification & status bar" tab would fix it. I said okay lets do it, but I went in advanced settings and there's no Battery Manager.. and it didnt show up in search either. Is my system outdated? (Side note: I'm a noob when it comes to phones, so I can't possibly pull the correct conclusions here, just saying) I'll include some info from "About phone" tab at the end of this article if that helps. Moving on to the next issue: Can't play video.
My "Can't play video" issue occured when I tried to play a video from within the default gallery app, a video that I recorded a few moments prior. Google didn't help so I downloaded a gallery app after several attempts on more freshly recorded videos, and after installing, the videos would play normally in the new gallery app. I headed back to the default one and on an attempt to play a video, it actually worked now. That's weird. Out of curiousity of what would happen, I uninstalled the gallery app from earlier, leaving me with the phone's default one, tried to play a video and got the same message as in the beginning: "Cannot play video". Out of curiousty once again, I re-installed a gallery app (same one as before) but didn't open it. I headed straight to the default one, tried to play a video and the result was different this time. It said "Error" or something of the sort. Hopefully that info will let you pros figure out the problem.
My "about phone" tab info:
Model Nr: EDI-AL10
EMUI ver. :5.0.1
Android 7.0
Thanks for reading & I'm looking forward to your answers
Edit: Fixed one of the 3 issues I had. Still need some help though, anything, any idea will help.
