Question came to my mind if it is possible to use Sony TV control to open electric gate to my yard.
Would be fantastic.
IMAO it is question of used frequencies, eventually codes to open/close gate.
Any experiences/ideas from anyone?

One thing I've been wondering about is where people got the notion that the Universal supports consumer IrDA. I've been checking the specsheets of the JasJar and the MDA Pro and none gives the impression that it actually contains that.
Also, no remote control application is bundled with either of these devices (something you would expect if it were present). As a last note, the infrared port (if it were consumer IR ready) is in an awkward position (facing the user when typing on the keyboard).
Am I missing something here (I'd love to be proven wrong)?
Best regards,
Sander
Hi Sander,
The JJ does have Consumer IR. I have used an application called Novii Remote (absolutely fantastic) and it has around 10m range! Very happy to see this integrated

Now the question here is: is it Consumer IR modulated onto a FIR IrDA bearer? As you may or may not know, to run consumer IR you need to include a high-power IR-LED (the little bulb at the front of your average remote control) to gain enough power.
I'm thinking that this is what is happening, as I cannot think of any other reason why the vendors wouldn't list this as one of the features. Check their webpages out: not a single mention.
If the modulated ConsumerIR works with a 10m range, then I'm a happy camper as well, don't get me wrong. It just may prove slightly more finnicky with certain equipment.
I actually tried it with various electronics.
Most of the remote control softwares for the PPC have an option to "teach" the device to control your electronics. Thats exactly what i did. For those devices which were not on the list, i just used the "teach" function for eg. PS2 and so on...
Turn this device into a universal remote i seen other pocket P.C do it with Satalite and cable set top boxes aswell as T.V, Video, DVD, ect.....
If so Where can i get this application from and what is it called or if their are a few please tell me what has worked wonders for you.
I have googled this before im not sure if they are saying it cant and it can they use to much technical terms. So i ask the masters at this.
Thanks For Your Help
Novii Remote 3.3
I highly recommend this software cd
I use it and it has remote control software on it aswell

The Exec is the first XDA (at time of release) to offer a commercial IR port which has a range of more than 2cm as was with the previous models.
Yesterday at work I was sat in the canteen and from a distance of nearly 30feet, I was happily changing Sky channels with my Noviiremote. I even sampled the signal to open the garage doors in the car park!

wat is the best program out there that gives the best range for the hermes to control a tv set?
novii remote is decent from my experiences
If by "Range" you mean Distance - this is limited by the IR Hardware on the device.
Not a huge range on the TyTn. (About a foot on a clear day).
Now the Universal .... that's another matter all together.
That can change channels from the other side of a large room.
It can even switch TV's off in shops from the other side of the high street, and switch off the Plasma in the pub down the road (just before they score .
Ok - stretching the truth a smidge there, but it is very good.
If however you mean "Range" as in "The number of devices that it can control" then you are sorted as Novii Remote allows you to program your own codes by pointing the original remote at the PPC and learning the signal.

use search you lazy wanabe, theres been stacks of topics on this in the last 2 months.
search and ye shall find
I know there are a ton of remote control programs out there. I have tried 3 of them. All crashed or locked up my phone constantly. I finaly have my Mogul all modded out the way I like it. All I am missing is a decent universal remote control program.
Any tested recomendations?
Off topic a tad:
Have you ever went out to a bar with a few friends and just when your enjoying yourself someone uses TouchTones to skip all of your music? In my area it happenes constantly. We have searched for an aftermarket remote for those boxes. I can spend literaly 5-10$ on music between myself and a friend or 2. Next thing you know some idiot spams us with Bob Marley over and over and over. We are dying for a good remote program. One that could be programed for these digital jukeboxes would realy KICK TAIL.
Please save me! I am running out of watering holes.
For most purposes, the range on the ir is awful and really won't help you.
Hello Developers,
I want to use my old magician to build into my car.
I am driving (for those who want to know) a Renault 5 GT Turbo, and building it purely for fun. I like to experiment with electronics, so injection system is used, and also a PDA with Zeitronic software to manage some data from the car.
What I want to do is be able to start the car with the PDA, or ignition the car, and other things likt boostcontrol (just on/off), lights, rev limiter, etc. All is just on-off switched.
Just being able to control six or eight Relays, via the touchscreen. Starting must be with a sort of PIN code. So is there a way to control 8 relays via usb-cable (must be charging all the time!).
And anyone an Idea or wants to put something together? If it includes some donations, willing to do so with some fun input!
Check out Arduino Board.
Not sure if you can hook it up to PDA, but might be interesting to you.

Wow!
This would be amazing!
PS: If you finally reach your target, let us know and share some videos!
Thanx! Well, just see it as if I got 8 ON/OFF switches on my dashboard.
I just need the program here to give an output to the USB port. So I hook up those signals to a relayboard. Those relays set the ignition, or start the engine, etc.
I don't know much, but I think you need a serial port not usb. However with some simple electronic audio filters I think it would be possible to control almost any number of relays via the audio output. You would need some software on the phone that played an audio signal whenever a button on the screen was pressed, I am thinking mortbuttons could do this. Then you would need a set of audio filters tuned to each exact frequency which would in turn switch your relays via a power transistor.
I like the sound of your idea, if you get it on the road it would mean that any PPC could be used to switch on anything. Think about the whistling key finders you can get, the same principal. Would be nice to see your progress in the future, good luck with it.
Edit: you could even do it via bluetooth this way, taking the sound from a bt headset!
Problem is, I have totally no idea of programming
Was thinking about this and had a simpler idea but only if you've got a ppc with infra red port, which if I remember correctly the Magician has. If you had all you need is some remote control software, which there is a huge choice of fully configurable stuff with learning ability something like this: http://www.pdawin.com/tvremote.html , then you just need an infra red remote control switch board like this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RF-Wireless-R...hash=item250271194147&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318
and you pretty much would have what you want!
Edit: Damn just noticed that one is RF not IR. But I know IR ones are available.
