Hi,
I own the S4 Google Edition (9505g) and in the last few days the battery started to drain way faster than it used to be.
I didn't installed any new apps nor changed any configurations whatsoever. Also, I did not see any system update which was installed.
The installed battery monitor app shows the regular usage, but the the battery just drains way fasted than it was before.
Any outputs or advice?
Thanks

I've noticed this too. I recently swapped from an i337 to the gt-i9505g. Battery has been amazing, but in the past couple days it's been draining like it's on fire. I dug deep and found that "Android OS" had a 4+ hour wakelock. Rebooted and so far no wakelocks, and battery seems to be back to normal.

Mine updated to KitKat (4.4) yesterday and I'm still good on battery life. Perhaps you should check out better battery stats?
Just received the KitKat update message, will update the damn thing later on today.
In the mean while, the drain carries on. Installed GSam monitor, seems like I'm having lots of wakelocks, and the built-in messaging app is sucking quite a lot of juice even though I'm not a heavy user.
Any further advice how to deal with it?
How long does it take for your battery to drain, on an average use?
I replaced stock messaging app with textra.. As for battery life I can usually get about 4 hours of screen time, b but on light use days I was getting about 20 hours or so. Haven't been on kitkat long enough to know, but battery life SEEMS better than it was. Fwiw in using art on 4.4 instead of dalvik.

Great.
I got 8SMS installed but disabled and I just got the call that KitKat was rolled out and ready to be installed. Will install it later and try to replace the stock messaging with 8SMS, perhaps that would help the phone to act better.
Do you happen to know if the ES File explorer still works with KitKat (allowing to create folders on the SD card)?
Thanks

So I would like this tip to be there for as many people as possible and not let it get lost in some thread. Already got some great feedback from other who tried this too.
I do not have any feedback yet from snapdragon users, so results could be different there
In settings ==> apps==> show system apps.
Disable and then enable the following:
- Google Services Framework
- Google play store
- Google Play services (here, only wipe all data en cache).
After you enabled it, these services will update themselves again in a few minutes. But with one big change: a great standby battery usage!
UPDATE!
So it seems I had forgotten some other settings that I changed also, until I read someone else his post. So for here some additional steps:
- privacy -> location -> increase precision: set wifi en bluetooth off
- privacy -> location> location history: remove location history, and turn all other devices other then THIS DEVICE, to off.
After doing all steps, do a restart. Just to be sure .
Let me know if it helped you too
Just did it, will report back with results

What i did last night was disable it that 3 and go to bed and charge the phone and this morning i turn in the 4G to go to work , and what i notice was the battery last i bit more , i notice the difference.
But as we know we can live without google services.
Now i see google services is one of the problem.
The standby only at night i can tell something.
Already losing only 2% battery overnight on wifi lol
How do I wipe the cache here? Also no option to disable or even stop here.
Nevermind I figured it out.
Unfortunately, this didn't help me. I'm still losing ~2% / hour, even overnight on WiFi.

Did you enable Google backup? Just trying to find out why it works. It's the only thing I have disabled while using this trick.
I have had Google backup disabled prior. Battery life still miserable. Did this trick seeing how it works.
This is where I am at now. I don't think this solution had any impact on my battery life. I was able to achieve these kinds of stats day one of the upgrade on tmobile with APG1 FIRMWARE. prior to that update less than 4 hours SOT. Where I'm at now isn't terrible, but it certainly could be better

You're saying my stats are great? I have GPS toggled off and Google back up disabled. I think battery life largely depends on what you're doing. Seems like you get much more life out of watching YouTube versus texting, or something similar. Also, no wifi usage today.

I'm assuming you're referencing the WiFi glitch you noted on your device? In that case I generally don't use wifi much. Even when I'm at home I just never think to turn it on. I'm a nurse, so at work I'm moving around and jumping from modem to modem, plus all lines are monitored and I just feel uncomfortable with that. There is one unsecured connection which happens to be where my office is located, but like I said I bounce around at work a lot.
While I never thought I would see the day that I was able to achieve 6 hours SOT, somehow I did. I'm attributing it mostly to the most recent Tmobile update although I did follow the instructions in this video, but based upon previous usage drain prior to applying this method, it seems to be on par.
Granted I do have location services turned off as well as Google back up, which has not been of any help historically. So with that being said I am finally pleased with the battery life I managed to achieved. However I will continue to monitor it as battery drain on this phone just seems so day to day.
nevermind. Happy it helped
I have a rooted Moto X Puré and ever since I got back from vacation it's been losing battery extremely quickly. I lose at least 1% a minute while the phone is on. According to the battery it is mostly the screen taking it up. Attached is a graph showing everything.

Have you rebooted your device? Did an app get updated and/or go rogue? Are you getting wakelocks? What is your SOT? Are you playing Clash of Clans (which is at the bottom of your screenshot) while phone is powered on?
You have practically no details or troubleshooting steps taken which could mean any number of issues. Do some troubleshooting and if you still can't resolve the issue, post more details on the issue and what has not worked. This will help in narrowing down the potential causes of your issue. If you are able to resolve your issue, please report back.

Yes, I have rebooted my device. Not sure if an app went rogue but some have definitely been updated. not sure about screen on time or wakelocks, but I do have greenify installed. I am playing clash of clans most of the time the phone is unlocked.
I am kind of a noob so I am not really sure how to trouble shoot it.
Same here, I have my phone since October 2015 and from the beginning of 2017 the battery is so bad I charge it 3 to 4 times a day because I am a heavy user. I think what made it go this bad I used to drain my battery then charge it to full, I have been reading it is better practice not to let the battery drain it will make the battery last longer, if you have moto support in your country get a new battery, problem solved.

Games like Clash of Clans are somewhat heavy on battery. Are you using Wi-Fi or cell connection to play? They that you take a bigger hit on mobile data typically. If you are rooted, use an app like gsam or better battery stats to get more detailed battery results. I know BBS will give you SOT and wakelocks among other things.
For the most part Greenify will help some, but it is geared for suspending/hibernating apps that you want to prevent s staying in the background.
Looks like Governor settings were changed to me personally, even for clash of clans that's heavy drain. I can get straight 2 hours SoT with Coc a lot of the time. When your in battery tap screen, you'll get the info on how long you get.
Also, I recommend looking up "cpu monitor" in the store, the second one listed is the one I've always used. After a day or two of it running you should get a good idea if you have a app or service doing it.
I have had the same problem. I have a day one Moto X Style (Pure) and 3 or 4 months ago the battery life dramatically changed. At the end 1 month ago the phone started to power off at the rest of 35% battery power. Because of an unlocked bootloader my guarantee was gone. So i ordered an original Motorola FX 30 Battery (2810/3000 mAh min/typ is important!) on eBay. Do not buy any other battery than the original one. Other batteries (for example the white looking ones on ebay) are not original and turbo power (fast charging) will not work!
A smartphone shop nearby helped me to change the battery. Now the phone works like on day one. Good luck.

I have noticed that this phone the Motorola moto e4 has a really bad battery drain and it looks like that FMRadioService might be the problem I am not for sure but I would like to ask other people what they are getting so we can figure this out
I have the FM radio disabled and don't really have many battery issues. I've been on my phone since I took it off the charger three hours ago, overclocked cpu on performance mode, and brightness all the way up and this is what I'm at.

I did some more digging because my Android system is always high i downloaded gsam battery monitor and found out that the kernel is keeping the phone awake when it's supposed to go to a deep sleep

Hi mattvail692, could you find out the source of the battery drain? I just bought a Moto E4, and I find I can hardly last 1/2 a day. It is burning energy at the rate of 18% per hour.

Thanks madbat99. In Settings-> Battery, I find that the main culprit (48%) is Screen. I wonder what the reason can be, since most of the time screen is switched off.

That means your phone has recorded the screen taking up the most. If your not using the screen much, it could be that your phone is not recording the record of the real reason. Hard to diagnose on a non rooted device. You can try greenify (it has some non root functions). From the playstore. But it's hard to say if it will help until you try it
My current battery. With alot of use so far.
Sitting overnight, no drain while idle.
My idle drain averages 0.6%/hr on stock with all radios on, location services on, full push mail (50+ messages/day) and active display enabled. Device sleeps like a baby yet remains fully functional and engaged with the outside world. Can get several days of light use on a single charge. XT1768 unlocked, rooted (Magisk) with no social media apps (prefer lite alternatives). Living under a rock has it's advantages.

8 hours of SOT is really good. You can try installing Wakelock Detector to get a different perspective. Also, anything that uses accessibility services may harm battery life. Another thing you can do is go to settings-permissions-autolaunch and disable autolaunching of apps that don't need to be running all the time. You can see what apps are currently running in settings - app management. One last thing is that your signal strength isn't that great, so it may just be how it's supposed to be.

I'm in the same boat as you, only I'm running OmniRom. But yeah, had 8h sot, can barely make 6 now, android system is my second biggest drain, with 2+ hours of cpu usage.
I have tried and I have found that 7.1 to 8.1 do not have the best battery life.
I personally have been aopk 6.01 and been getting great battery life.
I did do a stress test I did gaming and blasting next radio 21 minutes use only 6% of battery.
