Overheating - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just wanna ask about my LG G2 D80, the temperature rose constantly... i played games like NBA 2k16 and Holy Knight after 30mins my phone overheats i think its around 45 to 50c
my rom is cloudyg2 3.3
kernel is dorinmanx

?????????? don't play heavy games for 30 mins = profit

If you worry about temp you can set limit in dorimanx app. 50c is normal temp in normal use , I bet when you are playing temp is around 65-70c if you can feel hot at back.

You can try to limit to 72c while playing game but dont expect super smooth performance, if you are not advance user also you can try xceed kernel it run much cooler for me. Dont worry for temp everything is better than stock kernel for lollipop right now, as this kernels have better protection for cpu and "yelow spot" problems..

How hot is too hot?

How hot does your phones get while gaming? I've been playing pocket legends on mdj froyo matted and have gotten up to 107 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm not to sure about batteries but I'm pretty sure that can't be good for it. I'm running mdj s6.1 with set CPU set on smartass and 998,mhz.
If it feels hot, it is too hot imo.
I'd rather stop playing my game for a few minutes than fry my phone forever.
Just look at all the 'My Phone Got Hot and Now It Won't Boot' threads
Sometimes, especially in Android, cpu usage will spike to 100%, if left like this, it can fry your cpu
It seems the processor in the HD2 is pretty heat sensitive compared to some other devices
I don't overclock, in fact I find that my phone runs fine slightly underclocked, and it also saves battery life.
If your battery is already hot, and you get a cpu usage spike, could possibly spell disaster
Couldn't tell an exact temp that's too hot, but I would say absolutely err on the side of caution.
ive got upto 47.3C(117F) on pocket legends , runnin at 1.2ghz , didnt give a damn tho
I have a SetCPU profile to throttle the CPU once it hits 40c... I've never had it throttle yet !

Only played 'Gem Miner', but thats not exactly intensive.
Would 'Angry Birds' constitute as intensive, or shall I try something else ?
ive noticed u get about a +5C "bonus" under load when ur on a charger , must be cuz of the pwm circuits have alot of extra work to do

No, I don't think so. I never get that kind of heat when playing angry birds. I think it has to be something 3D to cause that much processor consumption.

Nexus 4 temperature

Hi, i want to buy nexus 4, but i'm worried about temperature. I'll install custom kernel. Could you tell me what are the temperatures when gaming on - for example- franco kernel? How long can i play before it reaches 60 celsius? Is it overheating with franco kernel or it has stable 40-50 celsius maximum when gaming?

The N4 has thermal safeguards protecting it from damage. Realy intensive gaming shouldn`t be a problem for a certain time, if you play too long thermal throtling kicks in and you may xperience some frame drops wich is normal. The heat will build up with any kernel and any phone when you play intensive games for a longer time as the cpu is not fan cooled as in a pc.
I know. But i'm asking how long can i play ;D Because it will be disappointing when this phone will get for example 60 celsius in 1 hour when playing angry birds

This heat building will happen with any smartphone. You may better buy a Play station or Xbox for gaming and a feature phone for calls and texts (just kidding off course )
60C is normal. you will feel uncomfortable with a normal device?

battery temp no, cpu temp every single day when i push my device hard. when benchmarking a battery, a stress test, its supposed to get hot, thats the whole point. that isnt a real life situation.

Yes, my battery temperature is almost always at 30C or below. I played GTA Vice City once for about an hour, and the battery temperature went to as high as 40C. My phone was unplugged the whole time of course.
As for CPU temperature... It probably got to about 50C-60C when the battery was at 40C. Not sure though. Still not too hot to the touch, and not hot enough to trigger crazy thermal throttling.

[Q] How to tweak this kernel?

How to tweak this kernel for stopping G2 from overheating? Even I lowered my CPU to 1ghz it is still overheating. :crying: please help. thanks
Hi,
What is exactly overheating for you???
Can you share your CPU/battery temperatures?
Overheating... But when? When playing a game while downloading a huge file over 4G and while charging?
viking37 said:
Hi,
Guys you realize that you have a quadcore at 2.26 Ghz... And when you play a (heavy) game or some other heavy tasks (browsing in 4G for example) it's normal that the CPU heats, right?
Temperature is very subjective without reading the CPU temp with an app, it feels hot in your hand (you can have cold hands and in this case you feel much more the heat) and it's hot because the CPU temp is about 90°C is different...
Heat and overheat (or "maximum overheating" like above ) is different too..., in any case there is a thermal throttling that prevent overheating. Our CPU shutdowns at 120°C so there is a little room... Even 80°C is nothing for the CPU...
Even 90°C for the CPU temperature is almost nothing (for the the stressed people) and there is a thermal protection in any case. Thermal throttling that reduces the CPU freq according to the CPU temp, same thing for the battery. And in case of extreme temperature -> shutdown.
And if you speak about "overheating" when playing a game or browsing while charging your phone...
Check your CPU temp with an app and report here...
It remembers me all the threads about "overheating" in the Nexus 4 forum...

After that you can try to undervolt a little (be carefull, step by step and don't set your undervolt at boot unless you're sure it's stable) and play with the thermal control by decreasing the max CPU temperature before thermal throttling...
You can use an app like Trickster Mod or Faux123 app (kernel enhancement) on the Play Store.

After playing heavy games, I can use my phone to iron clothes. lol. Well, I know it have quad core that's why I bought it. And I think having this kind of power is a disadvantage too because it heats very quickly like 10mins of heavy gaming.. And by heating it decreases the battery life.. I don't want to use this quad core phone in just browsing and watching video only, i bought this for gaming also.. lol
I don't know now where to use these quad cores.. lol... I envy my brother now, playing games smoothly on his ip5s with cool temp.. >.<
I have fauxclock and leave it to Intellithermal frequency throttle temp:80c and core throttle temp 85c. Is that ok?
Thanks :cyclops:
Re,
Hummm.....
Decrease the two temperatures of 10°C... And use Ondemand or Interactive governor with MpDesicion "on"...
Try undervolt/underclock a little... No need to underclock at 1 Ghz otherwise, right, it will lag...
But I don't think you really understand what I was trying to say... Heavy games+quadcore 2,26 Ghz+10 mins of use with that...= heat (and not overheating), are you sure there is something wrong or abnormal?
What is your CPU/battery temperatures???
And please don't compare our CPU's with the one in the Iphhone 5, it's not the same thing.

Begin with -25 mV but don't set at boot, use your phone for a day like as always (games, browsing, etc...). If you don't have reboots or anything wrong then try another step by - 25 mV. If you went too low your phone will reboot, (so don't use the set/apply on boot setting or you could have a bootloop), at this point you"ll know the undervolt possibility. Apply your last setting before the crash and see...
I don't know what we could do more... I think you need to read a bit more

Heloo i have the same problem when i play games likeplants vs zombies my phone hetas badly imen like 70°C(160°F) and i dont think it normal in like 10 to 15 min to be like that,i have root andtrickster app instaled and i alawys check the temperature.
I know its normal for the phone to heat but not so fast i seen thrads where users reported theyre g2 doesent heat bad att all.I have cpu threshold. on ,activated it from secret men.
So please helpwith advice and youre experience with this problem.
Thank you!
Hi,
Strif3, it's normal, point. 70°C is the CPU temperature limit before thermal throttling. What can I say more??? Read my posts above...
Use your phone like you want, as usual in any case there is a thermal protection! I think that Qualcomm knows how their SoC needs to be set about thermal stuff and I think (I'm sure) you can play heavy games without any issues even if your phone is at 70°C.
If your CPU temp was at 100°C (without modifie the thermal throttling), ok maybe here there is a problem (it depends also what you are doing), but I repeat 70°C during a game and after 10 mins i's totally normal!
If you all guys are worried about the CPU temperature, stop playing games, browsing in 4G and underclock your CPU to 300 Mhz and all will be fine...

[Q] Mahdi ROM: Temperature during intensive tasks!

Hi.
Question for Mahdi ROM users on the LG G2:
Coming from this thread, I'd like to know how Mahdi ROM's temperature is when you do intensive tasks, like playing games, running benchmarks etc. Does the device get hot? If possible, tell the temperature, what you were running, for how long, did the screen remain on etc.
Thanks.

Anytime you run an intensive game or the like your phone will get warm, no matter what phone it is. Benchmarks get warm too, however I find those to be useless.
It isnt useless, he's collecting informations about the black lines from a few roms...at least be happy that we have such guy on our G2 section, who is willing to help out as much as he can..

Hot as in "it shouldn't be at this temperature at all while doing what it's doing".
So that means 39°C tops. That's a bit above human normal body temperature. Not bad.
If I remember well, playing Plants vs Zombies 2 gave me 47°C tops in GSAM Battery Monitor, without ever rebooting.
Thanks.
Compass.
yeah max I had was 50°C, but not very long.
I guess it can shoot up higher, but for usually when doing intensive stuff, its about 39. Not to bad.
was one build it was 42 also in rest. That wasn't to long though. pretty cool, new build and fixed haha
@Compass Linux - my device gets extremely hot on any aosp rom even on normal usage, like web browsing, texting, checking emails and reading certain articles on the web, the cpu temp ranges from 50*C-60*C at times even 70*C and it gets throttled down as i set my tmep trottle at 70*C.
battery temps range between 27*C to 43*C which is NOT normal so im no longer on any aosp roms. it scares me as for lithium batteries temps above 35*C is bad for its life. also none of these temps are good for the phone so now im on pardus hd 7.1 and my cpu temps are within the rage of 35-50*C and battery temps from 32-35 under the tasks which i mentioned earlier.

If it was bad for the CPU why would it come from the factory to start throttling at 75?
I think you're mixing your views of desktop CPUs on to SOCs.
SOC (system on a chip) are crested to be passively cooled.
For this phone 30~50 idle/light tasks and unto 75c underload is perfectly normal and safe.

yeah that seems about right according to so specifications

[Q] heat issues

my s5 gets hot very quickly.. when i use it for 10-15mins (very light use checking mail and browsing).. it gets warm... when on moderate use (transfering lots of stuff on sdcard) it gets hot .... and when using a lot of apps (not even gaming).. it gets really really hot.
I installed cpu temp and I get temperatures like 60 degrees... sometimes i even get warning it's over 70 degrees.
I am on kitkat neatrom. will lollipop help with the heat? Is it actually normal? My friend has galaxy s4 mini and it does not get hot.. only warm under similar heavy load

No is not normal. Not even in games. When i was on kit kat hw accelerate h265 1080p movies only played in sw mod and then my cpu never got over 70 (and this is a ****ing cpu intensive **** for 1-2 h) and after finish the movie temp got lower immediately.
Don't use kernel others than stock!
I am on stock... I will try a stock rooted lollipop rom... I get 70 degrees at times (some peak..it's not continous i think ).. average max temp is 61 degrees celcius... is this dangerous? It's quite hot to touch the screen. Meanwhile I underclocked my max cpu freq to see how it performs.
can someone install stabilitytest and do the classic test for 5-10mins and tell me what battery temp they get? I get 36.1 - 37.5 degrees but i underclocked my cpu to 1190mhz. I feel the device being warm... top of the phone is warmest
edit: done same test on my old htc desire and the temp gets max at 33.6 to 34.6 but the device does not feel warm at all.. wdf is wrong with the galaxy s5?
