Help me spend my $50 Google Play credit?? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got my 6P on Friday... and an email to activate my $50 Google play credit..... I honestly don't know what to buy? I've had Androids for the last few years and have bought almost everything I need?
I don't play games.... I don't want music, I have a ton of iTunes credit I won.... So all my music and video needs are covered.
Music players and cameras are what I've been looking at. I've tried a few, but would like some input or direction? I also play in a band, so anything music related is always a win/win suggestion?
Any other suggestions?

I've heard of people selling their code on eBay for $45 or so. That might be a good way to recoup some money spent on the phone.

I didn't think of that.....But now I've already activated it.
I just bought Manual Camera and Stellio music player...
Already have PowerAmp and Shuttle+, plus several of the top camera apps. Snap, FV-5, Cameringo, ProShot, A Better Camera......

Here are some apps worth buying: Nova Launcher Prime, 1 nice icon pack, Weather Timeline, a good reddit app, Titanium Backup Pro (if rooted)...
Otherwise you can use it to apply to Google Music or something like Whatsapp subscription.

I'd pay for these apps: Nova Launcher Pro, Textra Ad-Free, Light Flow. And just use the rest to rent movies or buy music.
We only have a year to use this credit, so it'll be hard to spend $50 on just apps alone in a year.

You should get this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wtf

Already have Nova Prime and Weather Timeline, both GREAT!
I keep forgetting that I'm going to root pretty soon, when I seen a ROM I want.... And I just seen a ROM I want......Titanium Pro I will do! Thanks for the input!

I've got even more credit than that which I'm trying to figure out what to do with.
So far I've gotten SMS Backup & Restore Pro, and am eyeing Authenticator Plus which is like Google Authenticator only allows easy secure backups (It's a good app, but I already own the Amazon version that I bought with free coins, and I'm tired of having the Amazon app store because the apps on it are always so outdated.)

I already have YAATA SMS app.... But I might opt in on Textra while I have some money just in case I want to switch some day and I'll already have the ad-free version. I used Textra for a good year before YAATA.
Light Flow is another good one, in case Google doesn't ever let us have control of our light.
Thanks!

How much do you spend on apps

Just curious....how much are you spending on apps a month, and what is it that motivates you to buy?
I dont buy many apps, but having a demo version of a app usually causes me to want the full app after using the demo... if it meets my needs. I recently bought better keyboard for $4 and KEPT it, but removed swiftkey and got a refund..
And I already know you can get a refund the first 24hrs ... I am asking people who BUY AND KEEP apps, not those who RENT THEM for 24 hours..
Aloha from beautiful Hawaii
I have bought more than a few. My only that I would call expensive purchases was sling player and logmein ($30) I had more than a few palm and window mobile devices, and I can't remember all the $15-30 apps I bought, alot though. the apps are so cheap, it's baffling when I see ppl complaining about buying android apps. A dollar or two mostly. Ringo pro cost me $24 on my treo running palm os, and on my touch pro, hit me for 4 bucks for the same app on android.
So far I've spent about $ 35 in apps since I had my G1. Roughly about 15 apps, most of then having to do with root stuff, like set cpu, cache cleaner, titanium backup. The others are a couple of games, a couple of task killers that I no longer use and a couple of utilities type apps.

I do as well but if there is an application I really like, I will go back and pay for it. If developers don't get paid for their efforts, they will stop developing.

90% of apps cost less that 5 bucks, support the devs. If there was no way to get them free, u would pay the few dollars
I've spent about $20 on 10 or so paid apps so far. Tons more free ones.

Are you confessing that you STEAL FROM DEVELOPERS by downloading hacked versions of apps?

All i am saying is that i like to try the app out and if i like it then i will buy it. And you cant get updates for hacked apps. So its useless to the user. Thats my opinion. We all should support are developers. They are the reason we all are using these smart phones.
I like testing out an app first to see if I like it enough to want to buy it. Case in point widgetlocker. I played with the full version that I got of the internet, really liked it, uninstalled the pirated version and went back and bought the legit copy from the market. That way I know I'll get the upgrades as time goes by too. Other ones I paid and didn't use anymore... Well, if I need them again, they'll be there.
The majority if the apps are under $ 5 anyway. That's cheaper than getting lunch nowadays.
the only one I have actually bought from the market was Beautiful Widgets, but I have "bought" quite a few apps not sure on the amount because it depends on how much I use/need and app. I have gotten a bunch for free from the developers here on xda like SetCPU, ROM Manager ect however I have ended up donating to the dev of all the free ones I have got here.
I bought about $50 worth of apps and barely use any. Mostly use free ones. I stay away from anything that cost more then ten bucks though, I'm not that rich
I did buy at least 5 apps only to support the des (Stericson,Anderwebs, others) but I don't even use those.
Sent from MT4G.
I find buying the apps to be most rewarding. Not only do you get the updates and you're supporting the devs but with this "goggle account" thing (I'm new to android phones)
I find that even after a wipe and clean install of a new rom if I give the phone a few minutes all the apps I bought and d/led off the market reinstall themselves.
Well..at least that's what I've noticed.

Sign Up For Spotify!

Hey guys click the link and enter your email address to sign up for Spotify. They are coming to the USA!
http://www.spotify.com/uk/coming-to-the-us/
Done! Thanks for the tip...
Thank you!
I can really recommend Spotify, I've been using it daily for the past three years here in Sweden. Also it's nice to have your music available on your computer, phone and Transformer.
I can't wait! I currently use Grooveshark which isn't bad but they're not great on reliability; they have some server/dropouts issues.
They also aren't great on customer complaints....
I'm REALLY looking forward to this.
Ghosttown the best music app on android
I already signed up for it. It's free right I'm not sure how Spotify works or anything. I know there is a paid option that allows local storage.
Although I already have Zune (Love it) so I dunno why I'd use this...oh right it'll work on my TF.

Far from it...lol....
If you are looking for accuracy of your chosen music it does a horrible job...it shows the album that the song came from and then it might (not always) play a cover by someone of that same song...it can't differentiate versions of songs...it's no different than putting in youtube "bruce springsteen darkness edge of town" and hopefully getting the right song.
Groove shark is better and Slacker is better. (but you have to put up with a different mix of "similar songs" if you don't want to pay)
I think it's worth 9.00 a month and I'm sure that Spotify will be very good (from what I've seen)

And recommendations on spending the $25 credit?

I presume all those who pre-ordered get the credit. :good:
This is my first "Android" tablet (I own the Sony PRS T1, which is a reader FWIW), have never used an Android application till date.
Would really love recommendations for apps for this tablet OR how do you guys plan to use your credit? I am not into games, so any productivity applications for this tablet, which I shouldn't be missing out, give me a shout.
As I already own a ton of apps I'll probably dump mine into games.
For the sake of reference my daily go-to apps that i think are worth investing in would be:
Browser: OverSkreen
Music: PowerAmp
Forums: Tapatalk
Facebook: Friendcaster
Twitter: Plume
Photo editing: PS Touch
Everything else I use daily is either free, games and emulators or camera based, which doesn't apply here. I'm happy to supply a list of some of my favorite freebies if you like but as there are tons of threads devoted to such so I won't clutter this thread with it.
Edit: Plume and Friendcaster both have free versions too but as good as I think they are I supported the development and bought the paid versions.

You can't. The state that the credit can't be used in the Devices category and the case is in the Devices category. Only Apps, Movies, Music, and eBooks are allowed.

I never rent or buy movies from Google. If u do, can you watch it on a laptop or TV (laptop hdmi output)....or are you limited to watching it on an Android device?
Also, isn't it true that you CANNOT watch move on a rooted devices?

Email? Have been reading reviews and it seems K9 does not implement IMAP server search. From what I have seen from K9 reviews and its config options, it seems perfect for me, but IMAP server search would be a show stopper.
Here's my recommendation, send it to me!

Indeed you can. It's very nice.
If you're going to be using XDA (which is for folks that root and flash ROMs) you'll want Titanium Backup Pro. If you don't know what that is you'll figure it out really fast the first time you screw something up...
I'd also recommend:
Wifi File Explorer Pro (super easy file transfers whenever your computer and tablet are connected to the same wifi).
Swiftkey 3 Tablet (though JellyBean apparently has a great built-in, so maybe not necessary)
ezPDF reader (full featured PDF reader with annotations)
GrooveIP (if you use google voice and want voip on your tablet)
IP Cam Viewer (pretty sure you can figure this one out from the name)
TuneInRadioPro (streaming internet radio)
Unless you need something special, don't waste your money on an office suite (google drive or Cloudon are both great). If you absolutely want one, get Quickoffice Pro HD.
What's a good program to use for streaming videos from my Windows shared network folders?
Are there any 3rd party apps that will let me listen to my Google Play Music or will it only work with the native app? Any reason the 3rd party music apps are better?
What's a good podcast listening app? Something similar to iTunes so it saves your last played location, deletes it when you finish listening to it, etc.

I recommend Tablet Talk if you use SMS a lot.
When I'm at home on my wifi network, I just leave my phone plugged in and I just bring my tablet around the house. (ie. Watching TV) It also has a pop up to inform you if there's a call on your phone.
You can also use Bluetooth to connect your tablet to your phone. But I haven't tried that yet.
Thanks much, summarizing the list so far (I will use this as a baseline productivity toolkit for my Nexus 7, reading reviews now):
Browser: OverSkreen
Music: PowerAmp
Forums: Tapatalk
Facebook: Friendcaster
Twitter: Plume
Photo editing: PS Touch
Backup: Titanium Backup Pro
File Explorer: Wifi File Explorer Pro
Keyboard: Swiftkey 3 Tablet
PDF Reader: ezPDF reader
VoIP: GrooveIP
Internet Radio: TuneInRadioPro
I guess need recommendations on the below categories as well:
Email Solution:
Office Solution:
RSS / News Reader:
Task Management (Integration with Google Task must):
Alarm / Reminders:
Grocery / Utilities:
Inventory Management:
I will do a running total ($) of all the above, am pretty sure $ 25 credit would be gone in seconds I wish some of the apps, which have ports for both AAPL and GOOG, the transfer was seamless (Need to maintain cash for both "stores" now).

25 cent apps today on Google Play

Google is celebrating 25 billion downloads today with 25 cent apps... Just thought I would share.

3 of the apps are at least productivity apps and 1 is a live wall paper app. Google usually refreshes the list with these sales and throws a few repeats in there. At least some of the games look good - they usually aren't all terrible.

Hopefully some pretty good ones to come. I think it will be going on for the next 5 days.
I have a feeling that this is Google's way of fighting amazon
Three of the apps today were previously free Amazon apps
I am glad to pay a quarter and get rid of the amazon app store apk and having to be on wifi or data network to use my "Free" apps
If the next days have more free Amazon apps, I will buy them as well, and feel it really is google vs amazon
i don't like the amazon webstore either.mostly the apps are a tiny bit cheaper but the store itself is really slow and overloaded.
I'm rebuying a few office apps that I got for free on amazon app store. Even having them for free doesn't make them worth having that battery hog installed.

So I got a $20 GooglePlay Certificate for Xmas but I have no idea what to use it for, being a rooted user and all. Should I just buy whatever and just have no discretion on the credit? or is there something specific I should use the credit on that can benefit me? I still use my Samsung Epic4g, but I'll be getting a Nexus 7 in about a week or so.
Any suggestions would be thankful.

If I got some free money I would spend it on support developers who usually put most of their well done apps for free or try to get the most useful apps like TitaniumBackup Pro and maybe some games like NFS MS and Sonic Ep2 etc...
Titanium Backup is one that you should definitely buy and will be useful on the Nexus 7. Another I purchased and support is ROM Manager. I picked up Nova Prime for a quarter on Google's anniversary sale.
You can use it towards your N7.
Whatever apps book or music you buy will also be available on the n7 after you sign in to your Google account so shop without discretion.
