Z5 Speed Variations - Xperia Z5 General

So I ordered 2 Z5's from Amazon (2 different sellers); one green and one white to see which color I'd prefer. Now that I have both, quality is equal (and great!) and I like both colors, so decided to dig deeper.
There are some differences in the 2 devices. They are clearly built for different regions as the white one came in a Spectre 007 package and uses the LTE symbol for LTE and the green one came in a standard Sony package, included a QCH10 charger and shows 4G for LTE speeds. (For reference I know that 4G = LTE). The white one is Rev1 and the green is Rev4.
Here is interesting part. I've setup and configured both phones to be completely identical from brightness to apps to theme, etc. When I run a speed test using the exact same SIM card, I get way different numbers.
Running 2 consecutive tests in each on T-Mobile band 4 with the phone on my desk in the exact same position, the white one (Rev1) gives me 82.38 Down/4.71 Up and 47.55 Down/3.52 Up. The green one (Rev4) gives me 94.83 Down/8.56 Up and 97.10 Down/4.81 Up.
On WiFi, they are consistent.
Running both Antutu and Quadrant on both devices is also interesting. Antutu scores virtually the same on each; the white (Rev1) at 56k and the green (Rev4) at 55k. However, on Quadrant, the white (Rev1) is 29k and the green (Rev4) is 22k.
So what I'm looking for are comments/thoughts from some of you senior folks on the differences to help me decide on which device to keep.
Thanks!!

Since you have gone through all the trouble to set both if them up, I would run a bigger sample size of speed tests, say at least 10. I think you would see things average out and be fairly equal. Only thing is, not sure how your data plan is configured. Running network speed test in bunches chews data.

You actually ordered unboxed and used 2 different devices just because you couldn't pick which color you like before sending back the one you don't want?
I know that you 'can' but...

This post made me rerun Antutu 64-bit today on my black E6653 Rev3 where I got 55,092 only last night, same as OP.
Well, the latest result is 62,511
So, any of you guys notice the phone is faster during the day than at night?
Screenshots of Antutu results, phone uptime is 72 hours so no reboots between runs.

Might depend on signal from carrier and how stable it is. Many apps and system modules launch during different conditions taking a toll on battery and perfomance for a moment. For example changing connectivity from 3G/4G to WiFi will launch several apps that will then be closed down as RAM is needed for other apps that you have launched (these apps might be in standby but do some work from time to time or just when initially launched). This due to them being set by respective app to start when connectivity changes happen. So bench them in airplane mode and with wifi off. Restart before benching.

Mine shows to be slower than the z4 lol

@EQ2000
We all know benches can vary from run to run. My point about 55K vs 62.5K on my Z5 is that OP shouldn't be using benchmark results to choose between two "identical" phones.

Agreed unless this indicates one phone is throttling due to inadequate application of thermal paste and/or contact between SoC and heatsink.

OP (me) isn't using benchmarks to decide. My questions (and title) were around speed variations between the 2 devices and the benchmarks were just a secondary observation.
I was just curious if it could be possible that Rev1 and Rev4 have different radios.
My apologies if the benchmarks became the root of this discussion.

One more observation today. The green Rev4 has a VoLTE button in the Quick Access drop down and the white Rev1 does not.

The image speaks for itself, but I'll add some info. I have a SetCPU profile for screen off that sets it to 245 min and max, and I haven't been using the phone hardly at all the past two days. Wifi has been on the entire time.
Normally, after 8 hours of light use, my phone would be dead with Android System taking up about 40% of the battery, and the three radio entries taking up about 16% each.
I've been using CyanogenMod 6.1.1 since the day it came out, with it's built-in kernel, not Pershoot's. I've done nothing else custom. The only thing that I can correlate with this change in battery life is a new version of SetCPU came out a couple days ago.
Or maybe it's just an unrelated fluke, and tomorrow whatever battery-eating bug exists in the system will rear its ugly head again. I dunno. All I know is I've never seen battery life like this on my G2.
101% yaaaaay I can add

Screen not even registering as using any?
most of my usage is screen for 60%+ (maybe 2 hrs on)
and 15~18 hours tops!
You still geting great battery life I have the same setup and battery life is average not as good as 6.1
I do not mean to highjack your thread but I have a question. For the cell standby power consumption, what is registered as the amount of time with no signal? I am in a full HSPA+ area and it still tells me that 50% of the time my phone has no signal, how is that possible? Thank you for your responses.
I managed 56 or 59 hours once and the display wasn't on the list either. I mentioned this in another thread but it was generally ridiculed and dismissed
i lose about 50% of battery with hspa on during a 8 hour shift. Of course random facebook and texting is going on.
I noticed an improved battery life with the unofficial Gingerbread builds. Did Google finally get it right?

That has been my experience, though I'm still stuck using the stock HTC sense since I updated to 1.72 before rooting.
Whenever I check battery use, the Display is ALWAYS the highest consumer, by a large margin. I usually see 60-70% Display, and the cell standby, etc are only a few percent. Now I'm really upset I can't root it for the forseeable future.
Did you just not ever touch the phone at all? I mean, the display isn't even listed!!?!?
As I said, I was barely using the phone at all.
Right now I'm at 95% after 10 hours of non-use. I don't remember this ever being possible in the past.
Even when I actively use the phone (at least in the past) Display would never be very high. Android System was always #1 with the radios beneath that, and Display somewhere around 6%, as I recall.
In the time it took me to write this post mostly in Swype, I lost 2% so my crazy battery life seems limited to the screen being off (with the corresponding very low cpu speed). Still, it's never been this good before.
lol the title is hilarious just had to say

I bet the lcd being not used plus wifi instead of 3G is the reason. Plus, I think it's witchery not wizardry, lol! Maybe both... whatever they are both hilarious! Ah, the days of yore!

FPS capped at 59 with every kernel or tweak

I have a problem,my nexus 7 (as the title suggests) will not pass 59 fps. I've tried various roms, kernels and tweaks.
I'm not New to android and my sensation gets 70+ fps benchmarking, anyone know of any reason for my woes?
Getting really annoying to be honest. My sensation is ranked #1 in its device section of antutu and I want to push the nexus just as far

thats how it is, 59fps is the limit. kernel developers can raise the panel frequency, which can raise the fps to 109. but its not real, so they stopped doing that. what was your highest antutu, i bet i beat it with my n7. anyways, your 59fps on your n7 is is better than what you get on your sensation, you failed to take in account screen size, more pixels to push.
Thanks for the reply, i get 8229 with my sensation clocked at 1836mhz and with my N7 clocked at 1800mhz i get 9815 on antutu. Seems a bit naff to be quite frank, my dual core phone can nearly bench the same as the Tegra quad. I found some kernels with the fps limit disabled and i still only get 59 fps

i get 12000-16000 on antutu depending which kernel im using(and cpu speed), at 59fps. but its the screen size really that is the difference. and antutu isnt a good benchmark for graphic performance. its outdated and the test itself limits the scores.
here, nearly twice your sensation.. id say youre using the wrong rom/kernel

Thats more like what i expect the score to be like! Just to check without starting a thread.... Is the latest bootloader 3.34?
To be fair i am severely disappointed with this device, never had any problems with any if the HTC devices and within 3 days of owning this the micro usb cable has fallen apart, the screen has lifted in one corner and is displaying stress marks on the LCD trying to contact google or asus is becoming a stressful task.
What ROM is eveyone using? I'm guessing cyanogenmod??
I just run stock. It doesn't matter what rom/kernel I wind up running, it never seems to be as stable in the long term as the stock setup. Since I have bought my N7 I have flashed a ton of roms to it, when heading back to stock for a while out of boredom I found that I have an up time of well over a month now. I never got that lucky with custom roms after a week or two I always had to reboot it because of random issues including lagging and slow performance, to apps misbehaving.

Found setting for 3G to help battery life..

Some of you are going to say 'that's old news', but for the benefit of people like myself who maybe missed it at the time, I'm going to reiterate from something which was brought up a long time ago in the xda forums, found by accident in posts from a year or two ago.
There's this thing called fast dormancy. It's like a network power saving feature, which some networks don't support, and I found a lot of people saying that when disabled, can actually help battery life on 3G. I'm not going to go into that now, if you want more info Google it..
So it was as simple as adding a line into your build prop. "ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule" with a value of "0" and rebooting.
I wasn't expecting much, but did it just for the hell of it. I've not really used my 3G data much since I did this about 4 hours ago, but I left my data switched on, which is usually enough to drain the battery a bit anyway, I'd expect to lose 7 or 8 percent normally just being connected to data. Just checked battery drain. Hasn't moved 1%??!?! UPDATE: It is still using a bit, but definitely seems better.
Also..... I've speed tested my data many times before. Usually in my house, from sitting in the same chair, in the same room, I always get say 2Mb plus or minus 0.5 Mb. Well guess what. I ran a speed test and got 5.5Mb!!! So I ran a few more and it never went below 4Mb.
Can someone please shed some light on wtf is going on here? lol
Edit: just ran another speed test. 5.26 down, 1.25 up. Something has changed here, I'm telling you. Maybe o2 have switched on a new mast right outside my window ( just kidding, there's no new masts, because there's a mast fairly close to me, I know where it is)... I've ran loads of these tests with the same phone, same network, same room, and same ROM before, and never got half of the speeds that I'm consistently hitting now. Maybe the network has been upgraded or something and its just coincidental, that wouldn't explain why my battery life on 3G does seem to be improved though..

Anybody else fancy running a speed test, adding the line into your build prop, then rebooting, trying another speed test, and checking out your 3G battery life as well?

Tried it but unfortunately no noticeable difference in my case (on KPN network in NL). Thanks for the suggestion tho!
No problem. Maybe there has been some kind of improvement made to my network then. After having a think about it, if I am now getting a much better signal than I was it would actually explain the increase in speed (obviously), but also it may explain the battery life increase too due to my phone not hunting for a signal as much.
That's why I was wanting someone else to try, so thanks. I didn't realise it was possible in the real world to get 5.5 megabits from HSDPA. I wonder what the theoretical maximum is from it, and the real world maximum..

Disabling low fps in the UI. End result: The most fluid phone you will use.

First of I created this thread because it seemed like people where having success in getting rid of the lag and stutter they see. Ill explain why LG implements this in their phone later on. First of lets get to binness.
The option is hidden in the dailer menu. Its the last option called dynamic LCD refresh off/on.
Here is a pic:

When you press it, select screen fps and it should disable the dynamic fps system which reduces the UI frame rates and causes perceived mild stutters. Shut the phone off for 10 seconds and then turn it back on. The settings should stick.
60fps is smoother than any phone I have ever owned. This phone never lagged out of the box. LG implemented this feature that changes the screen refresh rate dynamicly. So while you are using your phone normally in the UI, it drops the animation FPS to 30 fps. This apperantly conserves battery.
It is kinda like the same thing that Nvidia does with their mobile gtx 800m GPU's. They give the user the option to set a target frame rate and then the cpu/gpu only works hard enough to meet the target fps, never working harder than it has to. This is basically bringing down CPU/GPU utilization and saving battery life.
Example: If I where to play Titan Fall on my PC and set the target frame rate to 60fps, my CPU/GPU avarage utilization will be 80%. If i set the target fps to 30fps the my CPU/GPU avarage utilization will be 60%, saving me battery life.
I hope this makes sense, and I created this thread to give some people awareness about this option. The 801 soc breezes through this QHD display.
Update: For people who are having sticking issues, try to enable both of these options. It is not a 100% though, but try your luck.
I'll give it a shot. I personally don't know how much better this phone could get for how I use it.
---------- Post added at 01:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:05 PM ----------
I followed the instructions but after boot it did not stick so I will see if it sticks by just switching off and just using the phone with a reboot.
My setting also did not stick after a reboot, but it seems smoother... doesn't make any sense unless I'm imagining things.

Is battery life the only downside to doing this or could it affect the life of the display over time?

Terrible Cell Signal.

HI everyone. I'm using Cricket Wireless on my Verizon Galaxy S7(G930V) running the G930U software. So I'm getting 4g LTE. But the cellular signal is TERRIBLE inside my house (1-2 Bars max) with this phone when compared to my Unlocked T-Mobile Note 4 that I was using before this S7 (I was getting 3-4 bars). I only switched to the S7 because we had the phone laying around and My screen on the Note4 stopped working out of nowhere. I plan to move back to another Note4 as soon as possible. But for now I'm stuck with this S7. Any reason as to why my signal would be so poor on this particular device compared to my older Note4? Anything I can do about it?.
The indicator bars might be lower, but are the actual speeds your seeing any worse?
Speeds are decent.
I never did a speed test on the note 4 to compare with.
But this phone loads pages the same comparably when on 4g here in house.
Its gotta be what is killing my battery tho.

Battery life is Terrible. I'm on a mission to get that better right now because this will not work for me. I'm used to having 4 battery's and being able to use a separate Battery charger. Note 4 spoiled me with that and the IRblaster.

WTF is going on with my battery? I have the S7 Flat snapdragon version (G930v) running the G930u software unrooted which removes all carrier bloat. Screen brightness is set to a little past half way. I have all setting provided by stock software optimized for maximum battery life other than running AOD. I am running a black Wallpaper/Lockscreen/ and an All black theme from the Theme Engine.. I Repeat, I have all stock firmware options Optimized for battery. Every single one. Wth hell is going on here. My battery time is looking Rediculous in comparison. Someone help me out here.
