Samsung S4 I9505 Wifi problem - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Firstly I want to apologise for creating a new thread. I couldn't find the solution anywhere and thought it was best to ask myself.
I got my Samsung s4 i9505 from my dad(second hand). The wifi was working back then. Then after a couple of months the wifi stared turning on slowly. Then after another couple of months the wifi wouldn't turn on at all. The wifi button would stay grey until I would restart.
I tried all the basic solutions like taking out the battery(bought a new one called Anker), factory resetting, flashing different roms, turning wifi power saving off and other stuff.
Could it be an issue with the motherboard or wifi module ?
Thanks in advance

I think this is a motherboard error, because you have flashed many ROMs and tried all the other basic things

[Q] wifi no longer turns on (4.4.2)

Hi,
Hoping someone can help with this problem. I scanned through a couple of pages of search results for this issue and boy are there are a lot of wifi not working problems out there!! None of them seemed to quite have the same background as mine so I decided to do a new post.
The problem - Wifi was working fine until a few days ago when it was connected to a network but then said connection was unstable and then the message went away. However I didn't have an internet connection so I decided to turn the wifi off and back on, except it didn't come back on. When I flick the slider to on it almost immediately flicks back to off.
I had the same problem a few months ago and then I pulled the battery out and that fixed it, but this time I have tried that along with a couple of other things and the problem still exists. Here's what I have tried:
> battery pull
> factory reset
> stock rom flash (I9505XXUFNC4_I9505EVRFND1_EVR)
I'm with T-Mobile UK (or EE now) and would prefer a fix that does not require me to root the phone. In some of the threads I looked through, people posted/asked for certain screenshots, so I have attached the About page and *#1234#.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

[Q] wifi wont turn on

hi guys, been having problems with my wifi not turning for a couple of days. when i hit the button in the notification bar it turns a dim green, then turns back off. i have tried restarting, taking battery out, i rooted my phone and changed the name of wpa supplicant in data/misc/wifi. i even installed cyanogenmod and nothing has seemed to work. the most common fix appears to be removing the battery but its not doing anything for me and i dont really have any ideas as to what i could do. any ideas or links for a solution would be greatly appreciated

If flashing a new ROM doesn't work, then something serious is up. Try flashing stock firmware and I'm guessing if that doesn't work it could be a hardware problem
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Free mobile app
okay i will try that, i was on unrooted stock android when i started having this problem but maybe going back will fix it. i recently got the phone from bestbuy as a geek squad replacement so could it just be a bad phone? wifi worked at first but maybe something came loose inside

S4 - 3G - WIFI won't turn on - Plz Help

Hello all,
Like thousands of S4 owners my wifi also doesn't work. But my problem is a little strange.
My wifi when I enable it, it says 'Turning On' and stays there for about three minutes and returns to off again.
But sometimes it just works.. it connects and internet is full speed and all is well.. then suddenly after sometime it stops again.
I am in this dilemma since over two months now and I don't know what to do.
Because it works some time I suspect it could be a battery issue, the wifi demands certain current from the battery and when the battery is not able to provide it the wifi won't start ( I have tried with the charger plugged in also, it behaves the same, wifi wont work ), although I am no expert in this.
What I have tried so far,
Tried installing 5.1.1 rom,
Tried installing stock ROM,
Tried various times to rename wpa_suplicant file
Tried without SIM and without SDCARD
Tried with a different battery
Opened the phone and re plug that blue wire
Tried 4.4.2 stock ROM
etc etc
No use, I have to depend on phones mercy till I get WIFI and data packages are very expensive here
Please advice something else I can try
Thanks.

If it was software then your wifi would just not work at all.
It's hardware failure.

Wi-Fi completely dead?

Hi,
Wi-Fi on my Nexus 10 always worked good. Then some days ago I turned it on and... Wi-Fi seems dead. I mean it stucks on "Wi-Fi activation..." and doesn't go on. Wi-Fi function seems not to be activable, switch button remains grey and disabled. It happens with 5.1.1 stock rom, then I made a complete factory reset and problem still remained, then i've tried with a 12.1 cyanogenmod and... problem still remained. Wi-Fi seems completely dead. Could it be an hardware issue? Is there an app with whom I can make hardware diagnostics? Or any other advice? Bluetooth also doesn't work and with cyanogenmod every 10-15 secs it shows "unfortunately bluetooth sharing stopped" message...
Thanks in advance.
Hello and thank you for using Q/A,
I don't know if there is a App to check hardware, but I think your WLAN and Bluetooth Chip is broken.
The last thing you can try is flashing Stock via Fastboot. Don't forget to erase all partitions before. There are several instructions in Nexus 10 General section.
Kind regards
Trafalgar Square
I have the same problem, but I am sure the chip is not broken because when I flash and reflash, sometimes the Wifi just comes on. but when I attempt a reboot its gone again. Tried FXR wifi fix but it doesnt always work.
I read somewhere that it could be a problem with the Persist partition but still havent managed to fix it
New problem!
Hi!
I've solved my old problem by replacing motherboard with a new one (with 32 GB HD instead of 16 from my old one). WiFi was perfect. I also had to buy a new 3-button set (power & volumes) because old one was deteriorated. All was right.
But from yesterday a new problem comes out. I was trying to flash last CM snapshot release for Nexus 10, but tablet simply powered off.
If I plug it to PC via USB and press power button I can see battery icon fully charged, but tablet don't turn on. If I keep it plugged, sometimes tablet auto turns on in bootloader mode for a few minutes, then screen flickers and tablet turns off. I've tried to flash CM in these minutes but, at first reboot, tablet turns off.
I think it could be a battery problem. Maybe it's gone and cannot be recharged, contrary to what battery icon seems to say.
Now, I've spent 80 euros for a new motherboard and 15 for 3-button change. A new battery will cost about 50 euros. 50 euros is less than buying a new tablet but, considering a new problem can come out in any moment, is it worth? Also, like when I had motherboard problem, I'm not sure battery is the problem. Any advice to solve or about buying or not a new battery? Thanks!
Took my risks and bought a new battery, arrived on yesterday morning. Battery changed and CM13 correctly flashed, now it seems to be ok. Luckily i hit the right problem.

Unable to turn WIFI On.

Hi there, I had my phone for about 5 or 6 months where it was fine till recently.
The problem was that I am unable to turn the wifi on. in the main settings the slider is greyed out and a text is on screen saying turning on WIFI but it does not. it does not even show the list of networks. it quick settings it shows as searching but nothing is listed.
in the about phone settings it shows the mac address to be 02:00:00:00:00:00.
This occurred a few days ago but no new software was installed the most recent being a week before to the April security update.
I have tried multiple things such as turning on the airplane mode then off, switching phone on or off, safe mode, factory reset, wiping the cache, taking the sim out.
There has been instances where I am able to connect to a wifi network but it does not last long (few mins) except when taking the sim out which lasted about half a day. (tried again but did not work)
My phone is not rooted and has the stock rom.
There has been some research on this matter where people have done something with the presist(I think that is what it is call) folder but there was no result on it so I have not tried it due to wanted to keep the phone unrooted due to warranty concerns.
I would love some solutions in figuring out this problem.
Thank you for your time.

This problem is exactly what happened to me also, since two days ago. I was searching for a solution and found this thread. Can anyone here who had this problem share how they fixed the issue? is it really a hardware problem?
Thanks!
