It’s name may be more than a mouthful, but the ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition is here. Many of you have been waiting eagerly for this device because it is the granddaddy of the ZenFone 2 family. Let’s take a quick look at what’s inside.
Packaging – Who doesn’t love carbon fiber?
Before we roll out the red carpet, I wanted to compliment our design team on the packaging. It has a smooth carbon fiber wrapping and the ZenFone 2 Deluxe logo is stamped on the top along with words Special Edition on the angled corner. When we open up the packaging, we have the phone, charging adapter, extra back cover, and documentation. The team did a great job with this and it gives a really nice experience.
Hardware – More storage and more back covers!
Let’s get into the phone, shall we? In terms of the upgrades, the Special Edition features an extra 64GB of onboard storage (for a total of 128GB), that means you can take up to an extra 45,000 pictures! Also, everyone’s been asking about back covers, and how much they loved the Deluxe’s 3D back cover that changed from purple, to blue, and then teal. This time, the Special Edition offers TWO exclusive back covers! One has a sleek carbon-fiber styling that gives it that extra tough look. The other is a faceted style, like the Deluxe’s, but instead comes in a smooth and shiny metallic silver. It feels great in the hand and isn’t slippery.
Software – Red and Black is hot.
ZenUI has been revamped with a new look and it is SLICK. To go along with the red trim of the Special Edition, unique icons, wallpaper, and notification menu was created to complete the package. Each icon is outlined in red against a 3D-looking black disk and the application folders mimic the style.Note: Settings menu, dialer have stock ZenUI theme.
It’s a ZenFone 2, but special-er!
The original ZenFone 2 is still a great device for everyone because of the value it brings. And like the original, this Special Edition inherits the Dual-SIMs, 4GBs of RAM and the Intel® Atom™ Z3580 processor. What makes this device so awesome though is the updated styling, exclusive back covers, and twice the space for more of your games, pictures, videos, and data. I agree but maybe it will be awhile before they do since they kinda reserved this for the special edition series.
Well can't agree more looks amazing!
That's kinda... Eh. I was hoping the real deluxe special edition was coming out @ 256 gigs as announced in Brazil in August.

Discussing this on the End of Life thread....
I do hope they put in a faster processor.
I think they took all the buttons away this time.

Haha... and good drivers for this chip
Any news of this from MWC2009?
To be honest, because of the low sales of the X7510, they are not going to change anything in the new version just so they can get rid of their excess hardware stock. I feel they will only upgrade the following:
Capacitive screen
Bigger resolution
Bigger ROM and RAM
and the rest stays the same...
Just look at what they did with the new HTC Touch PRO 2. Nothing new, still the same old device with a few changes. No big leaps...nothing...
Maybe we can hope that we get hold of a new ROM that the cooks might be able to tweak for our existing devices?
HTV Thoth
The HTC Advantage 4 will be the coolest device ever. It has time travel something like the Apple Time Machine. 3D hologram chat, which means you can see your girlfriend live in front of you. An option to dump windows OS for Apple iphone OS. 15 million pixel camera, a laser beam to defend yourself like Star Wars.
Please place your orders with HTC right now.

Ha-ha-ha, cool!
Thoth: More info, 09-2009 release date?
The big news (rumored, not confirmed) is that the processor and RAM/ROM will be upgraded:
HTC 7500/7501/7510 http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Athena?t=anon :
Processor: 624 MHz, Intel PXA270
RAM: 128 MB
ROM: 256 MB
Thoth:
Processor: 1GMHz Qualcomm 8250
RAM: 256 MB
ROM: 512 MB
Additionally, 5.0MP camera, and 480x800 screen.
Still no word on SSD, but I would estimate at least 32GB, but hoping for 64GB!

Let's cross our fingers that HTC won't try and screw something up. They always do in the end. So I guess we will have to wait.
pre-ordering Athena 2 aka Thoth
Where can you place a pre-order?
Any news/info about the Thoth/Athena 2?
I can't found at FCC site.
Hopefully something will be released soon:
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/06/02/htc-showing-some-new-stuff-in-london-on-june-24/
Thoth isn't dead yet...
Here are some recent rumors (same info, from different sites):
http://www.modaco.com/content/windo...thoth-and-omni-may-be-more-than-just-renders/
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/HTC...ing-on-the-Thoth-and-Omni-article-a_7289.html
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=8549
All very tenuous so far. Looks like nothing until 2010...
I hope they release a clamshell device.
If you look at the way HTC's site is configured, it is set up for:
Touch
Touch/type
type only
Since the Athena is touch/type I doubt it be a clamshell, but there are other devices that may be like the Shift
They really should resume development of the Thoth, it seems its time has really come now with the release of the Apple iPad, the Amazon kindle, the Dell mini 5 or even the Samsung mondi, it seems everyone is racing to fill in that sweet spot between maximum portability and capability.
As far as I see it, the htc athena / advantage was years ahead of its time, and consumer demand is only now beginning to catch up with these sort of toss it on the couch when your done surfing the web type devices.
And with Fennec, aka Firefox Mobile about to be released in a few months, with full desktop style youtube and google video support, it will be prime time for the Thoth to establish itself as the original iPad, Kindle, Mini 5, and Slate Pc killer.
C'mon HTC: don't miss out on this opportunity.

Hopefully, as an affordable alternative to the more expensive android phones, this phone (San Francisco/Blade) will have a large following. I for one, as an ex HTC Hero owner, have been impressed so far by it's capabilities, and would like to find out more and more and more.
I hope some day we will have our sub forum for SF/blade. Praying to god
As Future Owner i say Yes..
I say yes too!
Has 512MB RAM, too.
I talked my daughter into buying one and she's really impressed - Screen looks as impressive as my Desire (only 0.2" smaller but still OLED) The phone works well. A little laggy and you have to turn down the FPS on most live wallpapers (mario especially). Its a cracking little phone - £99 and you get gps, wifi, hsdpa, OLED, Android 2.1, proximity sensor, g sensors and a light sensor!
Another well known forum has already released custom firmware for it too and it only costs $4 to unlock to any network too....
As a budget phone - theres nothing out there that comes even close at that price... I imagine the ZTE Blade / Orange San Francisco to be one of the better selling phones of Q4 2010...
Heck - I'm tempted to get one for my youngest daughter but the wife says she's too young for a phone (she's 6)...
Oh - the internal memory - although its quoted as 150mb, my daughter kills all apps and gets 238mb available - and she's still got loads of orange junk on hers (until i flash it for her)
It is reported elsewhere as having 512mb internal memory...
If I can get my hands on one - hell yes
Please make a section for this, i think its going to be a big seller and very popular.
great phone +1
I'm also thinking about purchasing one of these in the future. A forum for this phone would be great, especially if people start cooking new roms. May be time to switch from WM6.5. Old wizard and Hermes are getting a bit tired.

It says it's for a Bluebelt but the code is the same for the ZTE Blade. It has been tested succesfully by dozens of people at MoDaCo.
Yes i would say it deserves its own space as ive just bought one today for my wife (cheaper than desire (which I have ) smaller and will do everything she needs
Yes Absolutely.
This is a budget phone. whoever want to custom or learn to custom ROM android could start from here.

I think I just found my new phone, upgrading from SGS2. The specs blow away any phone right now.
* Qualcomm 8064 CPU (Quadcore)
* 2GB RAM
* 16GB ROM
* Graphics processing comparable to the XBOX 360 (Adreno 320 graphics chip)
* 2000 mAh 3000 mAh battery upgrades
* 4.3 inches high PPI retina screen, 1280x720 resolution. The touch screen to do (the OGS / TOL), the single glass fit technology, Ultra Narrow design to protect the glass.

I wonder if this will have solid rom AOSP/ROM support... you might imagine so considering it's running MIUI out of the box.
Also, battery life.
Will it have an english MIUI available though?
Great specs, especially love the option for 3000mAh albeit with an extra 2mm thickness. But no mention of an SD card slot?? 16GB inside is fine but not enough for me on the whole.
I want one so bad! Hopefully we can manage to get them here in the US for under $400... It's beautiful.

Based on what I've read, don't expect to get your hands on it until the specs are no longer a wow factor.
Apparently this company has some very interesting marketing strategies, the price is apparently more so an initial head turner and far from permanent. Supply is also iffy.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Only missing feature is NFC, but hard to complain about at that price with those specs. Even if it comes in at $450 or so in the end that's around the Xperia P range so not out of sorts. We'll see if they release the goodies for the devs to tinker with.
Has this gone on sale in China? Maybe one of the Chinese users could clear our queries with regards to this phone. I'm chiefly concerned about the following things:
1. English support (should mostly have)
2. AOSP support (almost certainly might have)
3. Build quality and spares!!
Damn it I live in India and we are China's neighbours. Start selling you phones here guys!

amazing what they can produce here :cyclops:
don't expect aosp support as they will probably never release the kernel source. the first one was okay... many of my friends have them but.although they get updates every week they still seem to be only about 75 stable.. the new one has me interested from a cheap hardware angle but I like beingable to choose my own Rom
@joshofbass
what do you mean by "they still seem to be only about 75 stable"?
reboots? freeze? I need a dual sim so that i don't have to lug around 3 phones
NFC??
Does anyone know if the MI-2 supports NFC technology?
I have seen many websites which write the specs and other useful information, but none is mentioning whether or not it has a nfc chip.
NFC is not listed in the specs on the official homepage. Neither is microsd support, btw ...
the best phone!

Already sold out
I got my Phone delivered by Flipkart and here are few of my quick observations:
Antutu 6 Score: 142712 (Highest among S 820 phones)
Negatives:
The USB-C to standard headphone adapter is included but still that is downright idiotic to push their crappy Apple rip off ear pods. The plastic causes ear pain after prolonged use and we do not achieve a good seal for best sound quality. So all these claims of hi-fidelity audio are meaningless.
The Touch-ID or fingerprint sensor has got to be the worst ever sensor in the market by a long shot. We cannot be sure if response time and accuracy can be improved over time by software updates. It is unfinished. During initial setup, it simply refused to enroll my second finger. Had to do that manually later on and also the enrollment process takes ages to register your finger.
Positives:
The phone is definitely good looking but on a heavier side. Got a black protective case to hide the Rose Gold. I am not a fan of that color. Built quality definitely matches Samsung/Apple if not better. I have not yet removed the original matt screen guard. I am waiting for Flipkart to deliver me a tempered glass guard before. I heard that naked screen scratches easily.
The screen quality and speaker volume is adequate.
Supports all Indian LTE bands (B3, B5, B7, B40)
I actually liked their UI skin. Finally a hardware which is not bogged down by software. RAM available is 2.3 GB / 4 GB (OS takes 1.7 GB haha)
There is a Transparent Gel case included in the box.
Camera is strictly above average but not chart topping.
No heating issues at the moment. Phone does get slightly warm while Antutu benchmarking)
Biggest: Indian stock ROM has no bloat apart from few LeTV apps.
Unsure:
Whether LeTV will release kernel sources for custom CM13/14 based ROMS in future. They must do it to beat One Plus 3 at their game.
Fingerprint sensor performance will improve or not.
Whether we will get Android Nougat in future

Can someone tell me whats languages are supported in Indian Firmware?
Thanks for that, Yes I love my phone, I have the 5.8.015S on my Max 2, from your description I can now conclude I have the same one !
From my point of view its International. IE I see no "Indian" specific branding apps etc.
From the marketing moves of LeEco entering the US market place and other existing 820 ports of Android 7 I would
suggest they will be working on it .

The YOTA3/Yotaphone 3 has officially been announced here (in Russian)!
The phone is being referred to as 'YOTA3' for the Asian market, but will be known as 'Yotaphone 3' in Russia and "other markets".
Here are some translated quotes from the post:
"The development of a new generation smartphone took 10 months. In general, more than 100 technical specialists from Russia and China took part in the process of creating the phone."
"The phone has two versions - 64 and 128 GB, also released a premium version of the smartphone."
"Compared to the previous generation smartphone, the new phone has a more advanced operating system Android 7 (Nougat)."
"The device provides for the use of two SIM-cards, has a front screen Samsung Super AMOLED diagonal of 5.5 inches and a back screen E-Ink diagonal of 5.2."
"The amount of RAM doubled to 4 GB, and the battery capacity was increased to 3,300 Mh."
"The smartphone has two cameras with increased light output. Resolution of the front camera is 13 megapixels, back - 12 megapixels. The phone is also equipped with touch controls."
"On the back of the smartphone an additional sensor is installed, which will help to more accurately determine which screen the user wants to unlock. On the front side is a fingerprint sensor, which simplifies user identification and improves security. "
"First, phone sales will be launched in China, then it will appear in other countries, including Russia."

There goes my wish for illuminated EPD..
Doesn't look bad, though..
I would've been happy with this device if it wasn't for the missing 3.5mm headphone jack. I use my phone primarily for listening music, and there's no way I will be carrying a clunky adapter or using some crappy bt headset.
It's coming soon :
https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/8/24/16196766/yotaphone-3-specs-release-price
So it has 3.5mm audio plug after all (GSMarena specs). But the EPD screen seems not back-lit and the PPI increased only by 20% (Yota2 235 ppi, Yota3 282 ppi) that's still not the Kindle resolution at 300 ppi. Even the Boox Onyx readers have 300ppi standard nowadays. Comon Yota cheaters.
Support:
Oh yeh and wondering if the support is going to be in Russia or China. They would have to up the ante in case they ever consider sales outside Asia
LTE
Big ambition. Dual SIM needs support at least 1900 MHZ LTE because the 2600MHZ is still spotty. I doubt it will have 1700/2100 combo required in Canada. Add 700MHz for use in buildings and you have a pretty tall order.
Otherwise upgrade from YP2 will not happen.
How do I import one to USA?

However I can't mirror the main screen onto the eink screen of my Yota 3. I have the Yotaphone 2, so would there by a way to port the Yotahub/Yotacover/Yotapanel from the 2 to the 3? Also, all the instructions are in Chinese which is slightly annoying. Do you think the mirroring function would be added later by an update? Thanks

Also, all the instructions are in Chinese which is slightly annoying. Do you think the mirroring function would be added later by an update? Thanks
Click to collapse
It seems be possible to open mirror function. Could you try this?
The first step: Dialpad input "* # * # 9738 # * # *"
Step two: Click the "Mirror" mode test.
This method posted by some chinese site.
I can't post url yet. but you may can find on google.
And could you using Google Play Store on Yota3? on English?
Hi. I can't find the answer to my question so it's probably better to ask owners in the end : is there wireless charging on the yotaphone 3? Some sites say yes and other no so I don't know ! Thanks
