Gaming On Galaxy Core Prime? - Samsung Galaxy Core Prime Questions & Answers

Hi, I just got this phone for my daughter at the off seem a pretty good phone for the usual apps (facebook, instagram....) but I'm having big problems with games on this device!! Some games just crash on starting up with a screen of corrupt graphics (such as Crossy Road) where as other games that are more graphic intense seem ok (like subway surf)
Is the phone I have broken? or is there something I'm missing???

Depends on what variant of phone you have, mine is core prime value edition G361H, it comes with 5.1.1 and Mali gpu, had no problems so far with gaming or anything.

Ah thanks! Hmmmm this one is the G361F which through searching comes with the Adreno 306 GPU.
Which I take it is a lesser gpu?

The Value Edition G361F version comes with PXA1908 SoC + GC7000UL GPU, and some games are not optimized for the aforementioned Vivante GPU.

Finally figured it out

Are you trying to run good 3d games like NOVA, NFS Shift, Gameloft HD games on your galaxy 3 and when you ran them you only saw beatiful white textures on the screen and then started to abuse your phone's GPU. Actually you are there isnt any problem with galaxy 3's hardware it can run all the gameloft HD titles without any lag.
You can see on the youtube that a phone (crap) like LG GT540 Optimus can run gameloft HD games. It has only 600mhz processor and 156 mb RAM and not a very powerful GPU.
The actual problem with galaxy 3 is that its opengl drivers cant render 32-bit graphics and are replaced by white ones. It is probably possible it get its opengl drivers get updated after it gets official froyo update or it also possible if some developers finds way to put drivers in the phone.
I would be very grateful to the man who develops the drivers for this....eagerly waiting 2 play 3d games on my phone !!...
Since we have no one who could even build a AOSP build for our phone (Well, i'm personally trying, but it's quite hard to find doc), i don't think it will come..
But ask samsung on their open source website

Are you sure? I think it's because of OpenGL ES2.0, but I don't know too much about rendering system in android...
Yes 100% sure.
I am 100% sure. If anyone wants a proof then could check out youtube with Samsung GT-I5510 running NFS SHIFT smoothly. It has the same hardware as g3 the only difference is a QWERTY keypad. Also must be already knowing that LG GT540 and ATE blade dont have a powerful GPU. On youtube you would find former running BIA2 HD, NOVA HD etc and latter running Asphalt 5 smoothly.
I myself dont way to fix this problem so try to contact samsung or find a way to fix this.

I5500 and LG phone CPU HAS 3D ACCELARATOR!
If you carefully saw my post it is GT-I5510 not GT-I5500. I dont much about the LG phone but GT-I5510 has the same hardware as g3.
i5510 has the same processor as Spica.
I5800 DOESN'T have 3D HW accelarator.

I already know that g3 hasnt got a 3d hardware accelerator. Why arent you ready to accept the truth. G3 is not that crap as you think. Want this link out this video shows GT-I5510 running NFS SHIFT super smooth!!!!!!!

But without 3D accelarator is crap for games.
I5510 has, that's why can run NFS Shift.
Man it wud b damn awesum if iv can play dem on our G3....

i5510 have a Samsung S3C6410(Spica's) CPU with 667MHz clock, and 512MB RAM
i5800 have a Samsung S5P6422 with 667MHz clock, 256MB RAM
The CPU itself is the same(ARM1176JZF-S). Only differences at tech - our's is 45nm, Spica is 65nm.
And at all - our processor is cutted version(DMA channels, GPU, etc) of Spica's.
6410 have a dedicated graphics unit, with OpenGL ES 2.0 support. That's why games are running at 5501
Technically, the Spica does not have a GPU either.. Just have a look at it's perf on benchmark on 2D/3D.. Pretty much the same as the i5800.

The specs that the mentioned about I5510 is totally wrong. You must have saw them link- onpdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2582&c=samsung_gt-i5510
It neither has i5700 cpu (if you know i5700 wasnt able to run proper 3d games even worse than i5800 although it had better gpu) nor any 512 mb RAM. The origional specs are found on link- gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_551-3515.php
I dont blame you though cause many people know the wrong. This message is also for Szaby59.
"The specs that the mentioned about I5510 is totally wrong."
No, you can see here the complete spec, not just MHz: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2582&view=1&c=samsung_gt-i5510
CPU: Samsung S3C6410 downclocked to 667, then "Browse devices based on S3C6410" or http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdamaster&posted=1&cpu=a6410
And see devices...
"It neither has i5700 cpu (if you know i5700 wasnt able to run proper 3d games even worse than i5800 "
No it's the i5700 CPU, and can run 3D games with PROPER DRIVERS, which in Spica's case missing that's why i5700 can't run 3D games.
I5800 will never run any 3D game, because doesn't have the hardware to render it (ok you can play laggy white textures if it's enough for you).
I thank Szaby59 for taking interest in the thread. Now lets just gets rid off that i5510 (I have already tried my hands on it it has a slower UI than g3 and it has only 256 mb RAM not 512 mb as listed in your link but I am not sure about its CPU) topic it has gpu or not it dosent matters to us. We should think about galaxy 3. I actually a very big gamer yet I am in 9th grade only and have more than five years of extreme gaming experience. I am one of those guys who cant live without gaming even for 3 hrs. When I saw gameloft launching HD games for android I thought they would be supported on all android phones and resulted buying this crap. I already knew g3 had a bad gpu but my parents wont buy me a better phone.
Lets get down to the topic - Although g3 had problems with gpu I tried running some real 3d games on it and some of them even worked like raging thunder 2. Many people have problem running it on g3 and phones better than it. People usually see white textures on it but it ran it with full speed without any texture problem ( I going to upload its gameplay on youtube and paste its link here by tomorrow). Fifa 10 also worked on phone with only the texture of the field missing and rest of the details were ossom and the gameplay didnt lag. So after a plenty of research concluded that maybe the opengl drivers have problem rendering 32 bit textures just like spica. If there would have been a gpu problem rt2 wouldnt have ran so beautifully. So according to many people if its the gpu is weak then why does rt2 works on the phone? Please answer it.
What does it mean 'working' for you?
For me: good framerate, minimally 25 FPS, and correct textures.
In RG2 the whole car is a big white texture and lags.
If you wan't play some good game download angry birds or Sega Genesis Emulator and play old classics.
HD games maybe work, if the game doesn't require 3D accelarator.

http://forum.samdroid.net/f55/3d-driver-spica-1224/

For what?
Spica's CPU contains an OpenGL 2.0 ES 3D accelarator.
I5800 CPU only OpenVG and 2D.

Galaxy S 2 and FPSE (9th June)

hey all
i thought id share with you for those who would be interested in my first hands on experience with the samsung galaxy s2
well i went round my friends house after work, as he was waiting for one to be delivered as an upgrade, anyway he rang me to say that it was here,
so i thought id go up and have alook.
the first thing i did when he gave it me was.... drop it lol
he passed it me and it slipped right through my fingers it was so thin
it bounced on his hard laminated floor a few times but he just laughed.
it is a nice device, very slim altho abit wider than the play
the brightness on the screen was great
and it was very very snappy scrolling across homescreens and loading up apps,
exploring the memory with astro. i was impressed
and alot lighter than the play aswell
the quadrant scores were off the chart getting something like 3k+
linpack he was getting 48
i did notice that when running quadrant some of the textures were just plain solid shapes no actual textures. i thought maybe thats got something to do with that mali chipset that i heard didnt support certain texture compression but anyway.
i told him to fire up fpse to see what that ran like with the new fpse.
mines runs great hovering around at around 45-50fps
on most games. until i put on screen filtering
and that has a massive impact on fps it drops to around
27-30fps and games become unplayable even with frame skip on max
enhanced 3d rendering has little effect on fps so i keep that on
anyway i thought that the galaxy s 2 with the 1.2 dualcore and the mali 400mp
would power along when putting screen filtering on.
so i tried tekken 3 loaded it up. ran it but without screen filtering on
and it was buttery smooth stuck at 60fps.
then i turned on screen filtering and it dropped to 30/35fps
and was the same unplayable state mine was.
i was gob smacked surely a dualcore would best this???
my mate said, so looks like your not missing much gaming wise then compared to mine. i just smiled ,he hasnt got his for gaming mind.
i dont know if there was summat goin on, or a imcompatability with fpse
but it was an interesting discovery. i tried afew other games and they all were the same.
so as far as emulation and fpse goes were not getting left behind because we have no dualcore cpu.
Someone please correct me here if im wrong but what your saying is that a dual core cpu is the same speed as a single core cpu on single core programming, well yes that is going to be the obvous result, yes different single core speeds will have various results.
But unless a program has been coded for use with more than one processor then it will not make use of a dual core processor.
for example
a single core processor can work out
x = 5
y = ?
x * y = 15
this equation would take as much time on a single core processor as it would a dual core processor as you are waiting for the result of 15/x to work out what y is.
so until FPSE is programmed to allocate for dual core processors you will end up with the same speed of use, or very similar.
I have both, well sort off, play dead gone for repairing with sony, so bought S2 in the mean time, to tell you, S2 with 1gb RAM and Dual core Processor which can be overclocked to stable 1.66 ghz is way fast as compared to play, trust me, graphic wise both have 16m colors, but s2 with super amoled does it somehow better...i miss playing games the play way...thats all...I guess S2 is the world's fastest stable phone for now.....atleast I have both so know it...

The tegra2 bests that GPU in every possible way.
Also doesn't the SGS II have an FPS limit.
Also Exynos as a whole is not all that more powerful than tegra2 I mean the reason the SGS II does so well on benchmarks is because of android 2.3 look at the Atrix 2.3 leak its benchmarks are off the charts as well.
And my last point. There is no need for all this power if it is not going to be used. I mean games need that type of power and games are best played with a gamepad. Why sony ericsson didn't put a tegra in the play is beyond me.
I tried tekken on it, could see puches coming at me my thumbb was always in the way. I told the owner to uninstall as gaming on something like that was a joke. He didnt agree until he tried my play.

Games on HD2

Hi,
I wanted to ask if someone was able to run the game smoothly on hd2 cartoon wars. Maybe someone knows how to do it? I've tried a few roms also with HWA and nothing. Chainfire 3d program did not help too.

Hello. I have played many games on my hd2 and what i can say that modern combat series works well (even the third one), asphalt series is playble inc 7 heat but i dont like stering. You can play older gameloft games such as avatar, brothers in arms. Nova 2 and 3 are totaly unplayble. The greatets thing about adreno in our hd'2 is that you can run shadowgun and dead trigger (those two has a console graphics and they running very well). So im not totaly agreed with opinions that adreno 200 in hd2 is too weak to play games.
I play gameloft games too, they run well, yes, but not as fast. We need tweaks etc. for those games playing smooth. And, the Adreno 205 DONT need any tweaks. The Adreno 200 is Just too old, trust me.

You're wrong.
Our HD2 is just too old for playing current games. Sorry. Other devices that run Adreno 200 have lower resolution (eg. 240x320 instead of 480x800). That's why it is so weak now. Maybe we will have next reovlution in HD2 development, but I don't think so. Other devices with native Android got faster by some tweaks, we had to get everything prepaired for our devices first (with base drivers too).

I have also played a few gameloft games including NOVA 2 which was not ideal 'cause of lagging a little but still playable. I even could start NOVA 3 but playing that was like pain in the ass. I didn't have problems with Mass Effect Infiltrator, and other games mentioned above. the only thing I still can't handle with is Dungeon Hunter 2. I wish I could play that. which version are you referring to? quad 19505 s4 does have adreno 320 but i believe it is slightly overclocked, so it has higher frequency and much better in gaming. As for 19500 s4, it has PowerVR 544mp3. so both of them are good but only optimization can tell whether they can run smoothly or no.

The PowerVR of the i9500 is pretty much par with the Adreno 320 (overclocked) of the i9505.
Either way, it'll be more than enough to blast through modern cell phone games.

It's on par for now because apps are still using opengl ES 2.0. Once apps start using opengl ES 3.0 the powervr is going to be lagging far behind, I am thinking especially about emulators such as dolphin where the move is planned and would allow the emulator to gain almost 10fps on average. Otherwise as far as day to day use goes both gpus act about the same.

I9505 feels laggy in games!

I used to play GTA vice city in my note 2 N7100. It was so smooth, now im playing the same game but it feels laggy. It looks like im playing below 30 fps.
I think its something with the game or driver issue. Anyone with same problem?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Haven't had any lag on a single game I have played myself, although GTA isn't one of them. Perhaps there is a compatibility issue. One thing is for sure, it isn't the I9505 being too slow.

This happens in many games. It shouldnt, but it does. And it is known and odd issue.
I play lot of 2D games like Hill climb racing, bubble shooter etc and those games used to play fine on last year's hardware. Even if we are talking about 1080P screens, these games play fine on Oppo Find 5 which has same GPU as ours and inferior Krait 200 CPU. And it plays those games fine. But microstutter is experienced on I9505 as well as HTC One. Both of them are using S600 chip.
A lot of tinkering and manual CPU frequency lock at max speed (manually or though setcpu profiles ) reduces the jitter and microstutter, but it does not still completely eliminates it.
Hell these games play fine on Mediatek MTK6589 SoC.
I am not able to solve this on my either S600 phones for over a month now.
It is not SGS4 exclusive issue. Either these games are not optimised for S600 or governors on these phones are not ramping up GPU clock when required or there is thermal throttling happening.

That is exactly what I do. In SetCPU I have created custom profiles for games.
It just reduces the jitter, does not eliminate it. Funny thing is, some more heavy games play just fine.
same issue
i have the same issue with vice city, on s3 it was so smooth and now i uninstalled the game because i dont like shuttering... it was lagging like hell nfs most wanted, carmageddon etc are working great.
What I have seen is that the SoC Heats up very quick and it begins to throttle down CPU and GPU frequencies to cool itself! Our phones should theoretically be 1.9GHz beasts and they are..... for 15 to 20secs! Then everything goes to hell as the CPU throttles down to 918MHz (GPU too goes down) and it actually becomes slower than last year's Phones!
I hate Mobile technologies! My Acer Iconia W700Pro behaves the same! It has an Intel Core i5 3317U CPU with an Intel 4000HD Graphics GPU and it should be able to play many games without problems but Because of throttling it is actually Slower than an i3 CPU if you rum longer tasks!
Somebody must begin thinking of new ways to cool these CPUs instead of ramping Up MHz just so manufacturers can brag about it!
That's why I keep my Note 2 (I sold my S4 already, mainly because of the pen)
It's very cool, no throlling in any case, perfect smooth with no lag at all. Stability test proved it the best also.
I don't know why reviewers and many people keep screwing about benchmark and raw power. They are BS and do not convert to the real experience.
Maybe because these games are not optimized for FHD resolution?
They play well on i9500. I really want octa but 4G is fast where I live.

Nope. If that was the case they would have problems with my i9500 or Oppo Find 5. They work fine on these.
9500 does not even get warm playing Hill climb racing.
This issue is specific to Snapdragon S600 powered phones.
From my Galaxy S4 Exynos, in your face.....
Should I exchange my i9505 for i9500 or wait for solution or software update that fixes this lag?
Have you activated the 4x MSAA under Developer options?
Many of my games started to lag quite alot after i enabled that. So i turned it off and every games runs buttery smooth.
Maybe if you make a profile to undervolt and underclock your phone, just to prevent it to get too warm, the the throttling won't underclock teh GPU because of war issues.
I just Undervolt 50mv on all frequencies and it seems fine on all games!

i have both GTA 3 and vice city aswell as modern combat 3 and 4, and all of them works fine on my S4, although i have the octacore i9500 version.
I have the i9500 version ( Octa ), and faces this problem a lot and also most of the times the phone gets hot and starts draining the battery too fast !! so it's not throttling at all with this temperature and battery drain !!
I had this problem with Note2 but not as much as S4 ( and without getting hot or eating the battery !! ).. the S4 sometimes gives me as low as 1FPS or less sometimes ( measuring by eye )

And do you notice overheating when playing? How bad is it? Can you compare it with your previous phone?
I have a i9505 and are not that butter smooth as on my old i9300. But then again after the latest MEA update it's better then before. Not perfect but its something. This sure means they can fix it over time. I did not own a i9300 for long but I assume at launch that phone had the same problems as this one. After a while with update the phone became smooth right?
About the heating issues. I don't really think its a problem. CPU and GPU will get hot while playing games like Modern Combat 4. The iPhone 5 also gets really hot so its nothing abnormal. Mine is getting hot while playing games but not concerning hot.

I use Ktoonsez Kernel. It comes with an app that lets you control all that.:good:
For how to install the kernel though, I'd rather not give any advice on that, because I have done quite a mess on my own device on my mistakes during the instalation. I never had any problems installing Kernels on my Galaxy S2, S3 and Note2, but on the S4 I'm still pretty inexperient.
On the Kernel and Roms foruns you will find plenty XDA users that can help you on the installing process sweetly though!
