Tethering Unlock? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Just got my Nexus 6p, love it so far. I'll be jumping in to unlocking the bootloader, and root here shortly when the SDK finishes downloading. I'm looking to unblock the wifi hotspot feature, since my past devices were rooted/rom'd and had this function. Anyone find it yet?

its already unblocked in stock Android 6.0 under settings you go to more and you will see Tethering & Portable Hotspot.

At&t has still found a way to block it.

Got it working through bluetooth tethering.
Ninja edit: found this guy here, had to pair multiple times, but got it going: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/bivQfyYPPD0

Look up how to activate it on the nexus 6 from last year. Works the same way

Got mine in yesterday and checked this function out and it started with no problems either. No info or warning pop ups at all on this Verizon phone.

I'm sure people may already know this... but I just found this out. If you have AT&T (or any other carrier blocking tethering on the nexus 6P) and edit the build.prop, tasker would not be able to toggle hotspots.
With Xposed, there's a module "X Tether" or "Moto Tether" that will enable tethering to this phone so that even tasker can toggle hotspots... Confirmed this is working for the 6P. fyi

blocked on Sprint........any Sprint users get around this w/out rooting?

Finally got mine rooted. The native hotspot app is still blocked for me, however, the Wifi Tether Router app does work.

Assuming you have root, you can do the following.
With device connected to computer and USB debugging enabled:
adb shell
su
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
If you're using systemless root, you don't have to modify your /system at all for this method. I've verified this works for both Sprint and AT&T.

Any way to block wifi and battery notifications?

Is there any way to remove the persistent slow charging notification and the notification every time it connects to wifi or sees eifi connections?

setting>>wifi> uncheck the notify me box. that will take away the wifi networks available notification
Actually, settings/wifi/menu button/advanced wifi/untick network notification...
battery, try xposed module
install xposed framework
then install xblast
battery notification - OFF :victory:
The phone will still notify you your in an area with Wi-Fi even with the check removed.

Verizon model here and that stupid wi-fi notification is popping up all the time even with both notification options disabled. It pops up while driving down the interstate.
Can't wait for AOSP-based ROMs!! I like some of the bling with the LG ROM, but I miss the fine vanilla flavor of AOSP.
I found a root notification blocking app and disabled notifications from lg system server. I think the battery I've comes from system ui. Would it be bad to block notifications from system ui?

Enable VOLTE on Verizon Nexus 6

These were a couple things I had to get Advanced Calling 1.0 (VOLTE) working on my device. This is for either Lollipop or Marshmallow
Step 1 - Make sure you the feature added to your plan.
You can call Verizon and have them add the feature or you can do it yourself from logging into your account and adding it as a feature

I didn't need to enable the VOLTE provisioning flag. I didn't even need to reboot my phone, the toggle showed up in the menu shortly after I enabled the feature on my plan.
it was auto enabled on M

Just because it worked for you guys already, doesn't mean it worked for me out of the box. I actually had to do this to get mine to actually provision
Three in the UK recently started rolling out VoLTE so I'm left wondering how the option can be enabled in the UK.
The VoLTE Provisioning Flag is already showing as off but I can't see the menu in Network Settings ?

You want the provisioning to be enabled, not off..... Also, you carrier has to have it enabled on your account and it working on their network
It's free for all customers as of the beginning of September.
From the screenshots I've seen everything looks okay, guess it's not enabled on international carriers in the rom.

Thanks. Always been meaning to look up what I need to do to turn it on.... But haven't really cared enough to do it

WIFI Calling now available

This morning I received an ota that enables wifi calling. It's about time AT&T gave us this feature. Not sure what else was in the ota but I'm sure they patched the security holes that everyone has been talking about lately. There's no information available yet but as soon as I find it I'll post it. Screenshots show ota software version and wifi calling.

AT&T cloud backup for SMS/MMS with default messaging app. It was syncing all day on my BFs G5 until I turned it off after work. He said it kept killing his battery. (I'd hate to see what the data is on his line too thankfully he was home on Wifi the majority of the day) It completely borked MMS on my S7 edge when AT&T pushed the update, had to install Google messenger to get a picture to come through or be received. It probably failed 70-80% of the time. May want to keep an eye on that if you use the default messaging app.

Has anyone figured out if you can disable this entirely unnecessary and incredibly annoying persistent notification about "mobile data not enabled" now? I didn't want to update and now I'm forced to deal with this ****. No.

[Guide]How to use the Project Fi wifi assistant any carrier(Any recent nexus device)

Hey guys. Since this is my first thread, any help/instructions would be welcomed.
While messing around on my Nexus 5x I got a notification from Google Connectivity services telling me if I wanted my phone to auto-connect to open wifi hotspots automatically through a VPN(Virtual Private Network). If you don't know, a VPN sends your data encrypted through a Wi-Fi network. The data is then unencrypted by the VPN server, and is sent to the requested location. This is useful if you want to use an open network but don't want people to be able to spy on your browsing. After exploring a little, I found out how to set this up.
Requirements
A recent Nexus smartphone or tablet running android Nougat
The latest version of google connectivity services
Navigate to Settings>Google>Networking.
Enable wifi Assistant.
It's as simple as that. Whenever you come across an open network, your phone will automatically connect to it through a vpn.
Thanks
I was under the impression they opened up Google Connectivity Services beyond Project Fi users to all Nexus users, so do you really need to download this separately?

As Droid Life said, the feature is coming soon. Until its full release, this is the only way to access this otherwise Fi-only feature. I have no networking feature in my settings, and unless you do, I believe this is the only way to access this feature at the time of this post.

I can't tell you for sure because I have fi and it has always shown up for me, but when I search generic with no account from a PC, it shows up on Google Play store, so I assume it is already there and available.

It has a store page on the play store but there is no option to download it for me.
Your right. I found Google connectivity services under system apps. I believe using activity launcher is still the only way to manually create the VPN. Thanks for letting me know

it only works if there are open networks that have not been connected to previously and do not require signing in.
Has anyone in the UK got this feature yet ? I'm stock rom, unbranded, unlocked phone all updated.
Not on my phone in the UK yet, but the feature is apparently rolling out as a server-side change. Could take up to a few weeks for it to get to everyone.

Thanks dude this was happening to me too

I updated a few apps thru the play store yesterday with Android System Webview being among them. Afterwards, looking at my wifi tab, I noticed it's not blinking with like before. I think the latest "Android System Webview" may have fixed this issue.

Changes in router's Wireless Security had caused it in my case
I had this issue and was causing me real headache. I initially thought it was hardware failure of my phone but later I found reason is something else.
For some reason I had changed Wireless Security of my WiFi router from WPA2 Personal to something else (I guess WEP).
That was causing my phone (intex cloud 4g) often to turn on and off WiFi on its own. I changed the Wireless Security back to WPA2 Personal and phone is now back to normal (not turning WiFi on and off on its own)
