I have a verizon sgh-i545 running lollipop 5.1 which I rooted using kingroot. After rooting, I attempted to install philz touch recovery so I could flash a custom rom onto the phone.
I downloaded the newest philz touch for my particular model, but when I tried installing it the phone rebooted and displays a message stating "Software Update Failed" and it suggests using the Verizon software assistant to repair the device. At this screen at the top left, the following is displayed:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I545
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
SYSTEM STATUS: CUSTOM
REACTIVATION LOCK: OFF
CSB-CONFIG-LS8: 0x30
SECURE DOWNLOAD: ENABLE
WRITE PROTECTION: ENABLE
EMMC BURST MODE: ENABLED
I tried flashing the stock rom onto the phone using odin because I saw someone had some success doing this.
When I try flashing the rom using odin, the program finishes flashing but displays there was an error and that the flashing attempt failed.
Am I able to use adb to obtain detailed information to help identify the problem while the phone is in this state?

I have used multiple cables, including the one the that came with the phone. I read on a similar thread that the problem could possibly be related to the fact that write protection is enabled, but I am not certain as to the accuracy of this claim or how to go about disabling write protection.

You got a Verzion phone. Verizon sucks. They lock the bootloader so you cannot flash a custom recovery. That's why you got all that trouble.
Here is the section for your device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon
You cannot downgrade your firmware so make sure to flash the right one. Keep in mind that you shouldn't flash the latest firmware because that firmware cannot be rooted.

Thanks for the advice! =)

My girlfriend has been having S4 issues in the past such as random restarts and application issues probably related to a ROM issue. Her phone IS rooted. While I was at work, she went to my floormate for advice and he, who also has an I337M S4, suggested she reflash a ROM. Things went well according to him (i.e. no ODIN issues) and I trust him since he has been messing with these things for a while; however, now her phone will not boot past the Samsung logo. It won't reliably go past the simple "Samsung Galaxy S4" white-and-black splash screen and when it does it fails to progress to actually being on. I CAN reliably get the phone into download mode and CAN flash ROMs using ODIN; however, I have no idea how to fix this issue. :/ I have access to any necessary S4 files (such as the PIT file) from my floormate.
Since I can't get anything more useful than download mode, here's the information from that:
Product: SGH-I337M
Binary: Samsung Official
Status: Custom
Knox Lock: 0x0
Knox Warranty Void: 0x1
USB-Config-LSD: 0x30
Write Protection: Enable
MMC Burst Mode: Enable
I apologise if any of that isn't quite right as she has a crack in the top left of her phone that makes it very hard to read.
Thanks in advance,
Jacob

Custom roms are typically flashed through a custom recovery.. trwp, cwm, phils..... stock roms are flashed through odin.... 2 ways you can go here... flash custom recovery ( tripping knox btw) or download a stock rom from sam mobile.... making sure you get the right one of course.... and flash it through odin... sounds like currently you have a bad flash.......

Sorry, I should have specified. What "Passed" on Odin is a stock ROM or at least it should be. I'm just trying to get the phone to a bootable state and am unconcerned with the end resulting ROM. Do you have a link to a recommended ROM that won't take an entire day to download?

If your coming from 4.3 there are a number of good roms... unfortunately they are all around 1.2 to 1.4 GB so if you have a slow connection it will take a while... I run Danvh's 4.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537495 , there is also this one that people seem to like but I haven't tried it.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375180 you will need a custom recovery.... both of these suggest twrp.... I flashed with 2.6... 2.7 is out now and I don't know how it reacts but you will need a custom revovery to flash the zip file....
I guess the issue is you have to restore to stock via odin but you don't know what version bootloader you have? Guess you'll have to use samsung tool which will probably install knox?
Can you install custom recovery via odin?
Try with the new 4.4 files

Knox is already tripped. I'd go into recovery, do a factory restore again and then plug it into the computer and do a restore with Kies.

Can someone help with a possible bricked an SGH-i337 4.3 UCUEMK2 build?
Got this on eBay & it "ran" great but this nagging voice kept saying, "it could be better on KitKat."
First let me say I’ve been rooting & flashing ROMs for years but this had me stumped.
After performing a successful "saferoot" I found RomManager couldn’t install ColckworkMod due to a locked bootloader.
I did install "Safestrap" but w/o fully understanding how to use it I may have killed it.
As of now I cannot boot into recovery, normal booting shows the Samsung logo with an unlocked padlock symbol.
Odin connects but with a locked bootloader I’m not sure if that will help since NAND write fails.
In download mode at the triangle screen this is what it reads:
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I337
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Knox Kernel Lock: 0x0
Knox Warrantee Void: 0x0
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
eMMC Burst Mode enabled
Any Devs out there that can prevent this from becoming an aquarium chew toy please help.
I’ve been trying to fix it for 2 weeks & about to give-up.
much thanks, Rick

Hello. I've got a problem with my S4. I had Andoid 5.0.1 on my Galaxy S4. I bought a new phone so i installed CyanogenMOD on my S4 just to see how it works. When i noticed that battery drain is super high (it wouldnt survive one night of doing nothing) i wanted to install android 4.3 because it was my first android on this phone and from what i remember S4 worked best with this version. I downloaded firmware from sammobile and i didnt use original samsung cable. Something went wrong. It failed like 0,5 sec after i clicked start. I couldnt start my phone (it said that firmware upgrade encountered an issue). and from this moment i cant install any firmware. Im using original cable now. I downloaded like 10 firmwares already from 4.2.2 to 4.3, 4.4 and 5.0.1. different countries (including my original Germany Vodafone). I managed to install it once but it got stuck after Galaxy S4 text ("Samsung" showed up and it kept blinking and blinking.). From this time it always got stuck on system.img.ext4 but not always on 50% for example. Sometimes 10%, 25%, 90%. Used versions of Odin: 3.07, 3.08, Odin3_v3.11.1
Okay. So:
1. Got S4 with Android 5.0.1
2. Installed CyanogenMOD (13 i think)
3. Tried to install 4.3 with not original cable and failed.
4. Tried to install 5.0.1 with original cable. Installed it but it got stuck on Samsung logo.
5. Tried to install various versions of android. It always got stuck on system.img.ext4 in System section of flashing with Odin.
Is there any way to fix that? I know that may be very chaotic but i hope you understand. Thank you.
After flashing 5.01 with Odin, did you perform a factory wipe before booting 5.01 for the first time?
No, my Odin was set to reboot my phone automatically
Anybody?
Hi,
Just trying to add some things:
1) Untick Auto Reboot before flashing.
2) After stock firmware successfully flashed, reboot manually to recovery mode by Home+Power+Vol(+) buttons.
3) Wipe data/factory reset.
You're ready to go.
EDIT: My bad. Got no idea about stucking on system.img.ext4.

You tried using kies and smart switch to perform an emergency recovery?
When flashing system, it fails or it just stops there and never proceeds?
You confirmed that the model number in download mode matches rom you are flashing?
You tried flashing with a pit file?
Can you flash twrp and another custom rom?
Kies doesn't see my phone after just plugging it in and after clicking emergency recovery. Doesn't matter if its in Download mode or just turned on with "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue..." error. Smart Switch too. Smart Switch gives me an error that my device isn't compatible with this software.
When flashing system it just stops and never proceeds.
In download mode i see this:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I9505
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x1
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
eMMC BURST MODE enabled
And yes, im installing rom for my model.
I will try flashing with pit file and try to flash twrp and another custom rom and let you know. I won't be able to do this today.
I tried to flash rom the normal way (Spanish version, i chose it randomly) and it flashed my device. I was stuck in Samsung logo once again (after wiping cache and all data) but after like 2-3 restarts the system started. I don't know what was causing the problems and why Spanish version worked but Germany didn't. Thank you for all your help.
Managed to get the phone rooted, but then the System UI wouldn't load after a couple restarts. Used the phone's recovery to reload the OS, but after one restart, the phone got locked in a bootloop. So I tried to go back to stock first with Kies, but my USB cable popped off which softbricked the phone (yay). Download mode still works, so I tried to flash the stock ROM in Odin. Odin sees my phone just fine, but when it goes to flash the ROM it gets stuck at like 1%. Just tried again in Kies but still nothing. Here's what comes up on screen
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I337M
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official

KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x1

No, no error of any kind. Just that it sets up the transfer, then that's it. I left the phone for hours and the progress bar didn't budge. Also, no, I don't have that original cable anymore.

Okay, took me a bit to go out to the Samsung store to get the cheapest cable they had. But I'll be damned if it didn't work. Okay, so now that the phone is back to normal, does that mean I can do the same thing in Odin to get the OS I actually want to get loaded?
You want a custom rom? If yes, flash the tar version if twrp for the i9505, then flash roms made for the 9505 and i337.

Okay, twrp's site has a version specifically for the jfltecan, which everywhere I've looked up says is the phone I have, the i337m. Why do you recommend the one for the i9505?
If you flash twrp for the jfltecan, you'll run into errors when twrp runs the 9505 ROM's updater script. With the i9505 version of twrp, no error.

Okay, then. A final question then. The phone is already as if I just bought it. All my data was lost. So can I use Odin to install a new OS first, and then install TWRP? Because trying to install TWRP first is what started my troubles.
If you intend to flash a custom ROM, just flash TWRP and then flash the custom ROM.
Not sure how you tried to install TWRP but I have not had any trouble flashing TWRP via Odin. No need to root the phone before flashing TWRP.

Using the TWRP Manager app, which did require rooting. And, uh, sorry to keep bugging you. There is no i9505 on the TWRP site. Just i9500 and i9506.
edit: Ah, I assume you meant the TWRP file for the jfltexx?
I have never used the TWRP manager to install. I always use either fastboot commands for non-Samsung phone and Odin for Samsung phones.

I am still having hope I can recover my bricked Tab A. If there are any other suggestions than what I have tried, I would love to know!
I have attempted flashing, multiple times, stock ROMs, custom ROMs, stock boot and recovery files, CF Autoroot all unsuccessful at getting to boot.
:crying:
I can only boot into Download mode:
Product Name: SM-T580
FRP Lock: Off
System Status: Custom
Current Binary: Custom
Secure Download: Enabled
Warranty Void: 1 (0x0500)
AP SWREV: B:-1 K:1 S:2
I can flash the T580UEU4CRK5_T580XAR4CRK7_XAR AP and CSC Files but not the Bootloader curiously.
I can flash twrp-3.2.3-4-gtaxlwifi-OMNI6 but the device will not boot into Recovery Mode. (couintless attempts.)
I was hoping if I could get into TWRP then I could wipe the cache etc. but attempts have been fruitless.
I am all out of ideas.....

Providing screenshots of Odin's process in the different scenarios (flashing stock, custom, twrp, autoroot) / logs would help.
Could be a hardware damage as well. Then you will have to RMA it.

Your device is showing a bootloader revision of -1.
This is incorrect. Which is why you're having issues flashing any boot loader.
Something similar happened to another member who ended up with a rev -2 bootloader and had similar issues on another device.
He managed to fix it after some messing and got it booting again.
If I find the thread I'll post it.

This is what I have done before successfully with a different Samsung Galaxy Tablet and I unbricked that particular tablet. I used Kies to restore the original stock ROM to the tablet and I re-rooted it by using Odin and flashed the correct TWRP to the tablet. If you can get TWRP to work on anything I'd have to say that your technically rooted even without Supersu or Magisk.
