It could be a placebo, coming from an iPhone 6s Plus, but the stock google keyboard seems slightly laggy to me. Like it doesn't keep up with my typing. It's similar to how the Samsung keyboard performs on the Note 5 for me. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions for a better performing keyboard? I would think the stock google keyboard would be the fastest.
Can't speak about the Nexus 6P since I don't have one. But seeing how all my other Nexus devices work I would doubt it's something other than bad apps installed (if that at all). I seen what your talking about happen even on the latest iOS devices.
Take the iPhone 6s Plus. Seen it on one of my mine. BUT, I figured it was my backup I was using.

I don't have any "bad apps". I have the same apps installed as I had on my Nexus 6, which didn't have any issues.
No offense, but I'm not sure you should be speculating when you don't even have the device.

No offense taking. But being someone who has seen keyboard lag on new iOS devices just wanted to say how it happens even on those.

None. Been using the phone for exactly a week and I haven't noticed any stutters at all in the keyboard.

They aren't stutters. It's just almost imperceptibly slow. Like my typing outpaces it. I'm not sure how to explain it. The rest of the phone is silky smooth.

Have you tried disabling "Vibrate on keypress"? If I remember correctly, it is enabled by default. If I don't disable it, I can type faster than the keyboard can keep up with.
I've noticed the same issue as well when using Google hangouts for some reason. I thought it was my SwiftKey but I guess it happens with the stock keyboard too?

You know what? I think know that might be it. I switched to SwiftKey and used typing sounds instead of vibration and it definitely seems faster. I'll give that a try with the stock keyboard.

Just wondering whether the touch sensitivity has been fixed by a ROM?
Is it a hardware or software related problem?
Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 4
I think it's more hardware.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think it can be improved with software.
It was done on other devices.
For example on the Galaxy S2 it is possible to increase touch sensitivity up to the point where you can type by just howering over the screen without even touching it.

Check this out, comment 40 and 42. Looks like its definitely software side, I'm sure google/LG will eventually fix it.
Am I the only one experiencing MASSIVE lag on this phone? The lag comes and goes intermittently, its really random. Not consistent, but I experience it often doing typical tasks, such as changing my browser window, opening text messages, changing between apps, the notification bar will stutter when pulled down randomly, etc. This is my second S4, and both seem to lag really bad.
What do you guys think?
Turn off all bloat ware or factory reset the phone.

Its off, at first I thought maybe that was the problem, but I'm positive its off.
It's a problem. Everyone has noticed it with the AT&T version. AT&T and Samsung really need to get together and get on this pretty quick to address this issue. Stutter and lag should not be part of a phone that scores so well on every benchmark.

So its limited to just the At&t branded version? If thats the case I might just return this and pick up the T-mobile version.
Install Nova launcher and override the transition animations with either slide or ICS. That takes care of the stutters when opening and closing apps.

Im convinced the lag is a sure thing on ALL devices. Those of you who dont THINK you have no lag, I assume is because you have never used a lag free device like the HTC One or Nexus 4. Personally at this point I'd go as far to say my old S3 was "smoother" than this S4.....
Mine is so laggy that I don't even want to use it. I would say that its because it has so much going on.

I have been keeping it on, but it doesnt work very well for me thus far. If you look away for more than a sec or so and then look back it will still shut the screen off. I havent noticed battery drain though.
I turned off Smart Stay and all the other "Smart" features, they rarely ever work properly. For instance, Smart Stay requires that I stare at the sensor for the screen to stay on. In addition, now that I have a case with a lip on the front of the phone, I think the lip interferes with the sensor and none of the Smart features have worked since.
I use it. It doesn't work 100% of the time but enough to leave it on.
I've used S3, S4, and now Note 3, and I've always enabled it. I never realize how much I've depended on it until I got the Nexus 7, which didn't have this feature. The Nexus 7 would always dim the screen when I'm browsing/reading something. So good job to Samsung. They made a feature that is not only useful, but also transparent.

Same here. The notification "eye" annoys me a bit, but that's bc @beanstown106 roms spoiled me haha

I didn't like the screen dimming all the time, I do read a lot on my phone so have it enabled for that purpose makes it worthwhile to me.

It does not seem to work for me, probably because I wear glasses. I disabled it after a week and did not notice any difference.

Sometimes when it lags this horrible repeating happens and words words are repeated multiple times. I think think it think it has think it has something to do with the auto correct lagging behind. See?

Haha I appreciate the response and the humor. I tried clearing the data for for the keyboard but I'm still running into the same problem. The only way that I can get around it is to slow down my typing speed. Annoying.
