I have a real dilemma in that I think the HTC is so much better than other devices I've had but it's terrible in terms of one feature - answering phonecalls. Initially, I spent several days inadvertently calling friends and colleagues from my pocket. A bit of research and I installed the S2U2 locker. That work insofar as I stopped calling people at random but S2U2 - or S2U2 and the other software I have installed - conspired together in such a way that it was almost impossible to slide/tap/punch/kick my phone when an incoming call was shown to speak to the person. I missed 90% of incoming calls due to my device ignoring my attempts to answer the call. I've since uninstalled this and installed LockMeLite which was a gem for a couple of days. And then today the same thing happened. I couldn't unlock my handset as the "incoming call" pop-up was covering it. And another (this time, pretty important) call went to voicemail. I really can't go on like this. Does anyone have a better solution or is it time for me to go back to Nokia? I need a smartphone, not a PDA...
Thanks.
HD Tweak and set it to lock when the phone is on standby, then when a call comes in just press the lest phone key and it answers, works fine for me.
Thanks, I'll try that. I have HD Tweak installed, but that's something I haven't tried changing.
better yet, don't install those locking apps.
Try PocketShield.
It locks your device and has a differente unlocking method on incoming calls that allows you to unlock+answer and unlock+refuse call.
Perhaps Psygnosis84 didn't follow my original post - I installed "those locking apps" because I kept accidently calling people when the HD was in my pocket.
Thanks, syqe, for the tip. What KickAssMoves suggested (the setting in HD Tweak) has worked fine so far, but I'll try PocketShield as well.
This is a critical design flaw in my opinion and suggests the handset wasn't properly tested before being released.

I agreed with you, I also had the same problem before.. IMO, I think what KickAssMoves suggested is not so good compare to Pocketshield.
For me, HDtweak has a backlight problem when unlock it, light doesn't turn on until I press the power button. You also need to tab 2 times to unlock everytimes(not during the incoming call)
Pocketshield gives you free to unlock with light sensor, gesture(shaking) or move your finger..and many more to choose from.. which is much more convinient.
Why don't you just use the standard lock methods (aka pressing the power button or holding the end call button to lock the screen)? I use these methods and i have never had my hd randomly call anyone and when a call comes in the locks automatically disable for you to slide the answer/reject slider
pantyryder69's answer might as well be "well, this doesn't happen to me, why don't you try again?". Maybe I have fat fingers. Or weak ones. Or funny shapes in my pockets.
I tried Pocketshield but two things went against it. The trial's nag - a delay of 10 seconds - had me uninstalling it within a couple of hours. I can't test a piece of software with those sort of annoyances (it's the writers' perogative but their nag actually interfered with me trying to test if it had the funcationality I want). I found I had the same problem anyway, it locked my phone and I had to do a soft reset to get it back working (not sure what it was related to, possibly the nag screen).
I'm back to the HD Tweak solution of using the Windows Mobile screenlock. The screen dimming is annoying, but it does seem to work. I have to say, I'll be looking at an iPhone next time.
Hi telemecko, its known that at some point the "nag" screen caused some trouble, but in the latest builds that has been addressed:
(taken from http://www.pocketshield.net/download.htm)
4/10/09: Builds 2.6.2.X:
•Voice mail icon display issue (Omnia)
•After calls from unkown contacts, caller avatar stayed visible.
•Lock screen issue during process of dialing (fixed).
•Light sensor at dark reading 1 lumen when playing musig caused unlock (Omnia).
•"Evaluation" message caused some issues (fixed).

I'm facing similar problems with answering incoming calls. If it wasn't for the backlight problem, the tweak solution would be the best by far.
Did Pocketshield work fine for you ?
Not sure if anyone is following this now, anyway pocketchield works great. its made my life so much easier, no problem of random unlocking and ghost calls anymore!
Hi, I've had my oneplus 2 a couple of month's. brilliant phone and everything but one thing is bugging me, when i am on a call for a around 5 mins or more the screen would not wake up if moved away from my ear. anything under that and the screen will wake up. I've updated to marshmallow beta but still the same. Is this normal or is there anything i can do to make it work? i've checked all settings but can't find anything, even turned on proximity wake but still same.
Thanks for all your help
Kind Regards
Gunnerz
Hey, guys. I'm a huge fan of this phone.. I can't get over what a good value it is for the money. I have almost zero issues with it. The one issue I do have is the inconsistency with tap to wake. It seems like after it has been in my pocket for a while, it just fails to work. This happens periodically throughout the day, to the point where I just can't rely on it. It drives me mad because that's kind of a must have feature for me. To be fair, the only device I have never had tap to wake issues with is LG phones. They just seem to work all the time.
I did raise the sensitivity following the guide found on these forums. It's something else, like the pocket protection is stuck on or something. Anyone else experience something similar? I don't want to use the fingerprint reader. Is there something I don't know? Some setting I'm not seeing? Or is this just how it is?
Still a great phone otherwise. I wish I could fix this one little thing.
Is your screen clean or dirty? Have you tried wiping it down with 70% isopropyl alcohol and seeing if that improves the responsiveness. Is the phone hot when it's not responding? Are your fingers dirty?
It's not very sensitive, you definitely need to give it a couple of thumps unlike the taps on an LG phone.
There's a learning curve with this phone. I nearly dislocated my shoulder trying to shake the flashlight awake before I realized you had to wake the screen first

I mean, this only happens when I take it out of my pocket. Tap to wake works fine the rest of the time and my screen is definitely clean.

I'm coming from an lg phone as well, I have found the taps must be slower. The pause between taps needs to be just a little longer and it works for me almost every time.
Double tap to wake doesn't work when the phone has gone into doze mode. ZTE knows about this issue and is working on a fix.

That actually explains a lot. Thanks!
Doze seems to break a lot, including notifications on other phones.

The doze should not kick in if the phone is moving. One of the conditions is that phone should be static for a while. More likely it's something based on proximity sensor to prevent accidental turn ons. I found that i would have to tap several times to wake it up most time i have to do it twice. The force touch is buggy

Well, I haven't had any issues since I disabled doze and I doubt that's a coincidence.
I agree that doze shouldn't kick on in your pocket, which is why I originally suspected the proximity sensor, but it could be a bug in ZTE's ROM.
My Mate 8 had a malfunctioning doze mode that would cause all notifications to stop as soon as the screen went off, even if the phone was moving. I fixed that by disabling doze also.

The same issue I'm having on both colors I'm having .
Most of the time when picking the device from my jeans pocket refuses to open with double tap even after several attempts.
I have to unlock by pressing with power button and then when holding my phone it stating to work fine.
It's really annoying and frustrating.
Only double tap to sleep with nova prime or 3D next launcher working 100% perfect in all situations from home screen.
Also I'm using glimpse notification and enable the option to double tap to sleep from lock screen and works perfect all time.
Another feature having is it wakes up the screen automatically every time having notification alert and after screen being off continuous the led to be on as a reminder.

So, I was wrong. Disabling doze didn't fix it. I went back to my OnePlus 3 for a day to get perspective. That phone pretty much never misses a tap-to-wake. It just works. Conversely, the Axon regularly "goes to sleep" when it's in my pocket and I can tap on the screen as many times as I want and it will never come on until I hit the power button. It's definitely not working like it should, at least not for me.
I'm not sure how anyone can say that it's working fine. I like everything else about the phone. This is just annoying because I can't rely on using tap-to-wake. I spend more time tapping on the screen when it's not working than I would if it just didn't have the feature and I had to use other methods. If ZTE could fix this to work as reliably as an LG or the OnePlus 3, I'd be in heaven.

Totally agree.
Hope ZTE makes improvements on that very useful feature to become just like LG.

Well, not working consistently.
Assuming it's software but figured I'd ask here to make sure it's not a hardware problem.
Few days ago, my fingerprint sensor wouldn't unlock with my finger, just nothing happened. Rebooted, rescanned my fingerprints and seems to be okay now, but I've noticed the gesture to pull down notifications using the fingerprint sensor doesn't always work. Most of the time it does, sometimes it just doesn't do anything, then a few mins later it's okay.
And then the pressure sensitive home button, most of the time it's fine, occasionally it doesn't register and there's a delay with the vibrations.
Are these software issues, and has anyone else had these issues?
I'm using Nova launcher, if that makes a difference.
Hello all!
My Razer Phone 2 stopped charging. This is how my Razer Phone 1 also died, basically the charging port went bad, then worse, then died completely.
Anyway I got the Nothing instead, since price and specs fit me pretty fine.
However I want to change a few things. I might be blind in the settings menu, but I'm hoping you'll still help me!
I got a few points I'd like changed, and no amount of googling helped me here:
1. The phone turns on the screen when I pick it up. But there are often mistakes, and the screen just turns on by itself when I'm walking with it in my hand, or in my pocket. It has happened already a few times, after having for phone for 48 hours, that I have dismissed some notifications because of this. Can I stop this function all together?
2. I can also press the screen once and the screen will turn on. This is also a problem when the phone is in my pocket. On my Razer I had to double tap and it still turned on sometimes in my pocket. I ran the Razer phone with Nova Launcher, maybe I have to change to this launcher from the Nothing one to get this double tap feature?
3. I can turn off the screen by double tapping on the home screen. That is a feature I always use and appreciate. I never put the phone screen down so the lights on the backside won't get used. I always double tap to turn on the screen, check for notifications, and double tap to turn the screen off should there be no notifications. Nothing phone won't turn off the screen with a double tap unless I actually unlock it, so I can't do a quick check for notifications by double tapping and double tapping again. It won't matter if the phone is on a table, but I frequently check notifications and put the phone back to my pocket, and having to go for the screen button is not exactly for me. Do I need Nova Launcher here?
4. I NEVER use sounds on my phone, except for the alarms. When someone calls me while the screen is turned off, the screen turns off and I get vibration. If the screen is on I won't get any vibration from it, only a visual notification which is easy to overlook if I let it sit with the screen on but locked if I just checked notifications. Also I like the feedback in my hands in case I am doing something on the phone. I already missed some calls because of this. Can it be changed?
5. Is it possible to manipulate the glyph on the backside? I found a "secret" setting which makes them light up to the music playing, but that became pretty annoying just after 5 seconds. Are there some basic things you can do with the light? Like making a custom event and then specify how the light should react? Could be something simple like when a call is active the lights come on very dim? Maybe a 3rd party app someone did?
6. The Razer Phone 2 (and 1) has HUGE speakers in the top and bottom, so I have been living with pretty big bezels. The Nothing has the same size but the phone is almost 100% screen. If I need to go to the bottom and press a back button or something, I cannot reach anymore like on the Razer. Is there a way to add some virtual bezels on Android?
7. I really hate this "notch" or "camera bump". It is a bit of the same as number 6, but can I remove it completely, so the top of the screen where the camera is won't be used at all? The whole line, effectively adding more bezel here too.
I am probably picky, but I have used my phone in a specific way for my whole life, and I am not really good with changes. Also I think a phone should adapt to my needs, and I shouldn't adapt to it.
Thanks for reading and hopefully helping
To be honest, sounds like the Nothing Phone isn't the right device for you.
I like to know the answer to question 1 too.

1. There is an option to turn this feature off under Display->Lock Screen called Lift to show lock screen.
2. Don't know, but you should try using the Nova Launcher.
3. Don't know, but you should try using the Nova Launcher.
4. Very niche use case, you can try to search some root methods.
5. There is root app which can control the light you can try that.
6. and 7. There should be some root apps or magisk modules which allows to do that.
To 2: (I dont know if this works on NothingOS since im on Paranoid Android. But both are very near to stock, maybe it works for you or for others.) I disabled that tap to activate setting and am using fingerprint while screen is off. This can also act as a quick look for notifications, for that i tap where the fingerprint reader is really short so it fails to unlock. This way only the always on display shows up for 3-4 seconds.
Nova wont change anything lockscreen related.
To 5: If you have root, time and like playing around with commands and apps, you can try tasker. Since im on Paranoid Android and the glyphs arent really implemented yet, i made a task that fits my needs perfect.
To your other problems: i think too, the phone should adapt to the user. So i suggest you to wait, i guess there will come roms that are way more customizable.
And maybe a pixel would fit your needings better than this phone because there is a big custom rom scene around.
