It's probably been asked before, but I couldn't find it with a search, so here goes:
The recent Nexus 7 announcement with LTE capability on Verizon got me thinking about how Verizon treats its LTE since Google forced some open network agreement concerning the LTE bands Verizon is using. I'm assuming that Verizon won't sell the Nexus 7 and that you'll have to buy it from Google, then get an LTE SIM card from Verizon separately.
So, would it work to open a tablet line for LTE data only on Verizon and put the SIM card into a Nexus 4, then flash whatever tweaks are needed to get the LTE up and running? I know how to get VoIP and ToIP, so I really wouldn't need the 2G network.

The Nexus 4 supports band 4 LTE (1700 MHz), yes? Verizon purchased 1700 spectrum a while back to use to help expand its LTE network. So, theoretically, when the 1700 MHz Verizon LTE comes out, would it work?
I am a little confused about some information I found on Verizon's Note 3 Page. It says that the Note 3 will be a CDMA phone but then lists the following bands:
CDMA Data – 1x and EVDO Rev0/RevA
LTE: B13 (700MHz)
Global Ready (GSM/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900; HSPA/UMTS: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz)

Does it mean that if sim-unlocked, it can be used internationally, and how, if it doesn't take a sim card? If it can be used internationally, I would much rather buy a Verizon (for the US) instead of AT&T. I use AT&T only because it's a GSM carrier.
I don't have the answer but I can recommend you to contact Samsung wireless. They certainly have much more credibility.

All Verizon 4G LTE devices take SIM cards. They have to, since LTE is based on GSM. Also, historically, Verizon doesn't carrier-lock the LTE/HSPA/GSM part of their 4G LTE phones, so SIM cards from other carriers will work in a Verizon LTE phone out of the box.

I found the answer here, by the Answerer #2. The 4G/Data part of a global ready phone is GSM compatible, and only that part can be locked for data internationally; the calling part will still depend on CDMA in other countries. If that information is accurate, I will stick to an AT&T Note 3.

Truth be told. LTE has more in command with CDMA in terms of radio/air interfaces. It covered within 3GPP standards (GSM then EDGE, the UMTS, HSDPA, etc). Rather than 3GPP2 for CDMA1x and EVDO. That's why Alcatel Lucent had a leg up on LTE since its deployment is more akin (specterally) to CDMA. But they dropped the ball, and except for the US and Some Asian markets, the rest of the world has 3GPP based networks deployed.
the Simple version, is LTE is not directly compatible with any 2G/3G technology, but since its covered in 3GPP, the standards evolved quicker to ensure GSM/EDGE/HSDPA interworking.
And beyond that.. what most people dont know, that interworking doesnt really work that widespread yet. In the US most mobile handsets operate on dual frequencies (especially all VzW models, ATT models are catching up) so they effectively talk CDMA1x and LTE at the same time. iPhones do not support that capability, but GSM has work arounds to allow talk+data.

(btw.. anyone with iOS7 and ATT.. what out you've got problems you dont know about when going back forth from 3G to 4G.. I know since at work we talked about how to fix it..
I believe a rumor was that it has the same LTE baseband chip as the iphone 5s so that you could potentially use the Verizon version on AT&T and T-mobile...any truth to that?

Not true, I put a T-Mobile SIM in my Verizon Note 2 and made calls, sent texts, and used data on GPRS, EDGE, and HSPA+.

I have also done it with an ATT sim on my Verizon note 2.

Global-ready is basically verizon's way of saying that it has a GSM 3G radio as well as a CDMA radio. That allows the phone to operate in Europe where there is no CDMA service. You can purchase international service from Verizon, or purchase a SIM from a European carrier while overseas. All verizon 4G phones have a GSM 4G radio anyway, because LTE is GSM.
(This means that with an LTE carrier in Europe, any 4G Verizon phone can get data in Europe even if they can't place voice calls (VoIP still possible)).
If I am not wrong with what I am saying, Verizon LTE phones only support LTE BAND: 13, which means that IF you are willing to use 4G with different carrier, they have to support LTE band 13. I have tried to use my Verizon Galaxy Note 2 in South Korea, I was only able to use 3G network via WCDMA, I wasn't able to get LTE service at all. Correct me if I am wrong.

the different N3 variants due in fact support different LTE bands, so you are correct. Minor point not worth nitpicking from earlier post, GSM is not LTE. they both evolved from the same 3GPP standards body, but portions spread spectrum nature of LTE is more similar to CDMA than GSM.
I went to Korea last October, and they wouldn't allow prepaid 4g LTE. They would only allow 3G for prepaid service.
I had a note 2 rooted and custom rom when I went. I'm a US citizen and you have to wait about 2-3 days before you are allowed to sign up for any plan on what they told me.
Recently with the T-Mobile merge MetroPCS has supported bringing your own device, such as the nexus 4.
Most devices connected will use both Metro and T-mobiles towers, giving us overall better coverage.
The issue is that the Nexus 4 not supporting LTE by default won't connect to metro's network. So this halfens the merge, back to only T-Mobiles tower.
My question is, does anyone know how to connect the Nexus 4 to both networks? So far none of the LTE enabling mods don't work.

That's not possible. The nexus 4 only supports band 4 LTE, which is what t-mobile uses. However, metropcs LTE is band 2, thus making it incompatible with the nexus 4.

Metropcs does have band 4 LTE, but that might already be integrated with T-Mobile and there'd be no distinction between the two networks.

You shouldnt need to do anything to get your phone working on metropcs gsm except get a metropcs gsm simcard(no the ones in their old phones that had sim cards will not work), change the apn to metropcs lte (fast.metropcs.com) and of course activation. If youre only getting signal on 4g then you might have your phone on lte only. Be sure to enable lte/gsm only that way it can go down to 2g/3g/H. And it techinally runs only under tmobiles towers so if your area has weak tmobile towers thats the problem. you can use everything on the nexus 4 including band 4 lte if its included in your area. Metropcs is slowly becoming another mvno on tmobile. They still have cdma phones but theyre being phased out. Band 2 is most likely referring to their cdma LTE which is a differently system all together. Im on MetroPCS GSM. obviously you cant use cdma bands with this phone but on metropcs gsm you'll be fine. You get hspa+ and lte. Its quick and cheap and works pretty good. I get speeds ranging from 8mbps to 25 max when on lte. I flash phones and unlock phones to metro all the time so feel free to ask me any questions

When my Nexus 6P signs onto US Cellular, I am lucky to get "edge" coverage (but it does not seem to actually know how to use it). I understand that USC has LTE band 12 and am wondering why I cannot access it. There are no TMO towers in my area. I get great LTE coverage using Canadian (Bell/Telus) towers, but nothing useful for a huge area here in Maine as I travel south towards Augusta. Is the Nexus 6P a bad choice for TMO? Should I be using something else or is nothing going to actually utilize USC's LTE network? Hoping to resolve this because I need the Canada coverage TMO provides, but I also need coverage here in Maine. Is the USC LTE deployment actually band 12 here?

US Cellular is a CDMA provider. They are not GSM so there is no edge to be used. The only part of their network you'd be able to possibly use is LTE, But I highly doubt you could roam on them due to if LTE did work, they're would be no way for SMS/Phone calls to work as you'd only be able to get a data only connection.

US Cellular has shifted to GSM as well as the LTE. My iPad Pro does roam on their Edge network with no issues. The Nexus 6P does not like their network, but it can and does use CDMA where it is.

US Cellular is still CDMA as stated on there website along with every phone they sell is CDMA/LTE. Yeah the 6P can use CDMA but there is no GSM carrier that has agreements with CDMA roaming except for Project Fi which uses Sprint, T-Mobile, and recently now U.S.Cellular for the nexus devices.
I was doing some digging and U.S.Cellular does have a few GSM towers up were your at but its for roaming purposes ONLY (it's technically not really uscellular though) it's just them to make a few dollars from Gsm carriers like T-Mobile haha. so that would explain why you can get edge not sure why your 6P won't roam on it correctly though. Here's a simple question that gets shockingly complicated.
I have a xt1644 on AT&T, and have my previous phone (zenfone 2) on T-Mobile.
When I used the zenfone 2 on AT&T I could never get an LTE signal, but when using the zenfone on Tmobile i get LTE all the time.
On AT&T, my zenfone said it was in HSPA mode. Now my MG4+ also shows in HSPA.
Interesting sidenote. I travel across the country, and it doesn't matter what market I am in, same results across carriers (no lte on AT&T, but get it on Tmobile.)
Is there any way to figure out what bands which carriers are using, and perhaps add the LTE band for AT&T to my XT1644 radios???
Yes, even I am confused.. but that's it in a nutshell.

I am using the Cellmapper app. If you are rooted, it can read the LTE band frequency directly from the Qualcomm radio.
I have used the XT1644 with both metroPCS (T-Mobile) and now Cricket wireless (AT&T) and the latest has more consistent LTE connection.
