So after destroying my JY-UQ124 (RK3188 quad core) accidentally, I have decided to look for a new HU that may be more modern and customized specifically for my car.
Searching aliexpress I ran into a company called smart rover navigation selling some allwinner r16-based HU.

CPUQuad-core Cortex™-A7
256KB L1 Cache
512KB L2 Cache
GPUMali400
Supports OpenGL ES 2.0 / VG 1.1 standards
VideoSupports [email protected] video playback
Supports multi-format FHD video decoding, including Mpeg1/2, Mpeg4 SP/ASP GMC, H.263, H.264, WMV9/VC-1, VP8, etc.
Supports H.264 High Profile [email protected] encoding
Complies with RTSP, HTTP, HLS, RTMP, MMS streaming media protocols
Supports OpenMax protocol
vs RK3188 -
28 nm HKMG process
Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9, up to 1.6 GHz
512 KB L2 cache
Mali-400 MP4 GPU, up to 600 MHz (typically 533 MHz) supporting OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0, Open G 1.1
High performance dedicated 2D processor
DDR3, DDR3L, LPDDR2 support
Dual-panel display up to 2048x1536 resolution
So it looks like the RK3188 should be faster due to using quad A9 cores vs allwinner using quad A-7 cores. But in practice how much difference would this make?
It looks like the r16 was released just June of this year, but it has worse specs than the RK3188 released last year?
Anyone on here running on an allwinner r16-based unit?
Here is the unit I am looking at by the way -
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/8-An...For-Mazda-6-Atenza-2013-2014/32369470348.html
This is built specifically for my car, unlike the JY-UQ214 I just came from. Has similar specs except the seemingly slower processor, but everything else looks good. Also has a larger screen & will give me a more "stock" look.
Curious to hear some others thoughts.

This is the thread you need for that head unit:

I have one in my Audi and I am not that impressed to be honest. The integration with the car via the CAN BUS decoder isn't completely there - I'd rather it wasn't there at all than half-baked as it is now. The Bluetooth is not integrated into Android like it is on a phone or tablet which is again frustrating as things like dialling from contacts doesn't work and my unit pairs with my OBDII adapter but Android doesn't see it (which may be down to my unit or my ELM327 OBDII adapter). I am also experiencing issues with accessing the MicroSD slots from TomTom (1.4 & 1.8.2) as well as other apps - I am not sure whether this is an Android issue or again down to the hardware and how it all fits together.
I am fairly sure most of the issues could be solved with software - probably some better customised apps to get the Bluetooth more integrated, updates to the CAN BUS module so the integration with the car computer are better. The problem is getting support from the suppliers in China. I seem to be in an email battle with them and I haven't really gotten anywhere.
I am in two minds to take it out and put the original Audi RNS-E unit back in and enable the integrated Bluetooth in the car - at least that all worked perfectly but the SatNav is crap.

what's the android system version of your HU? I heard that system 4.5.2 can solve the bluetooth problem.

According the info displayed on the 'Model Choose' screen in Extra Settings it is a BC6 (A3), however in the Extra Settings BC6 isn't checked by default. If I check it Bluetooth stops working. I posted all this in the other thread....

It's from Audiosources. I think it doesn't use BC6 module. You can open the case and check the number on the bluetooth module.

Audiosources? I purchased it from here - http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-...in-Android-quad-core-Audi-TT/32560229487.html
Would I get more support from Audiosources?
Its going to be a bit difficult to do immediately now I have it installed.... I did manage to get the OBDII adapter to pair, however in Torque it doesn't appear.

I was looking at some headunits on there and it says the :
R16 Cortex A9 Quad Core 1.6GHZ......... is this more of that "chinese marketing" or is it actually an a9 quadcore.. This is the item I am interested because I have not seen any other seller making screens this big for my mercedes.

Ok well my prodding questions got them to do research and change their ad now I'm look at a new processor also probably something that they fabricated. MST cortex A9 dual core... At any case I really just want to know what the fastest processor I can get on one of these head units. Is it the rk3188 cortex A9. I'm planning on doing a full system upgrade on my Benz and really want one of these head units. With the 9" screen that fits in the center console flush. All the 9" seem to have dated hardware in them though. Can I get a recommendation?

So I am thinking about buying one of these on my next paycheck to replace my current Android Headunit. It has 2GB RAM, Intel Processor, Android 5.1.1 and everything I want except for a full touch interface. The question I have is, will this unit still have the same problem with the internal MIC being too weak for bluetooth calls and also the parrallel MIC issue where if you hook an external MIC up you end up hurting the quality of BOTH MIC's? If so, does this mean I will have to void my warranty and disconnect the INTERNAL microphone by snipping the red and black wire near the solder pads?
Also
How much faster will these units be versus an A9 Cortex Quad Core with the same RAM and same O.S? Is there any way I can get one with a full touch interface?
What do you mean with full touch interface?
I had a MTCD rk3188 with external mic and it was working very well

Hello, thanks for replying to me.
The full touch interface meaning no knobs or buttons, all of it is touch screen, like this unit here:

The buttons are on a touch panel which is apart of the fascia.
With your external mic, to get it to work did you have to disconnect the internal mic?
Also do you believe this unit will outperform the newer Ownice C500 with Android 6, especially the 8 core units?

Thats the one i am returning back to seller (rk3188 1gb ram broken display) to receive the same but on Intel CPU and 2gb ram.
I never had any problem with mic.
My seller is Hotaudio (Aliexpress)
My impressions are these:
Don't get only with hardware specs.... Overall in terms of Chinese products...
That unit seems to have good hardware.... But what about the support?
Few brands give you the expected support.... But MTCD headunits have a good users support here in forums that sellers can't give.
When I decided what Android unit to buy I selected MTCD due to the good support on forums.
MTCD units are sold by a lot of resellers and "manufactured" by several manufacturers... That gives you the option for having more users and a lot of answers....

What is an MTCD unit? and how will I know which units are MTCD and which ones are not? The unit you're purchasing now, is it MTCD? I am very interested in it.
It is mtcd but with Intel sofia 3gr CPU. 2gb ram.
Joying sells mtcd units as well.
Previous version was MTCB (Android 4.4 1gb) mtcc was a patch of MTCB and mtcd was new hardware (mcu) and Android 5.1.1 based in rockchip rk3188 (still 1gb).
Now, using the same mcu platform they arw moving to Intel 3230rk soc and 2gb ram...I don't know why they still are labelling as mtcd ....

Wow, there's really not much inside there at all.
I can see that a lot more is integrated into the SoC board.
Interesting that the motherboard filename marking has PX3 in it.
Makes it more likely these are an evolution of the Rockchip motherboard design and not a totally new one.

Does dedicated thread exist for this type of units? I see more and more people ordering one...
I found on aliexpress two vendors who listed new units with RK3688 octacore processors, 2 gb ram and 32 gb rom with android 6.0. Can be an alternative to Intel Sofia's units?
https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesal...0721&SearchText=rk3688&aff_short_key=bm2aeAra
I saw it too. I want more information such as when the atmospheric temperature displays on the screen. How much more powerful this rockchip xp3 processor.
I saw that as well, and I'm really interested, waiting for reviews first, I can't seem to find any...
Interesting never heard of that brand though, so let's wait and see.
I want to know if you see the screen temperature as Roadnav S160. I now own 160 S Android 4.4.x, I feel good but I want more power RAM and processor. PX5 how this works?
I want to know if these units have proper working Bluetooth like the Intel Sofia does, because the RK3188 did not with the MCU being the only device with access to the bluetooth module. With RK3188, then Android OS was "blind" to the bluetooth adapter severely limiting what the head unit was able to pair with.
it's true ! The Bluetooth module is limited to RK3188. I hope this is different.

Is that really true or is it the way the bluetooth apk is implemented?
See this modified BT.apk for the Joying intel units solving exactly that what you are now mentioning (although it will probably not work on your units). Based on this Devs work maybe the MTCD Bluetooth apk can be modified as well.
It is really true, and no, that APK will not work. There are no Bluetooth drivers in the MTCD Kernel and it is not possible to inject them without the source code. Android is blind to the BT adapter on RK3188.
I found two big chinese vendors, Erisin and Zonteck, who listed also this new unit. I think RK3688 will be installed in most of chinese car radio products.
I looked at these two producers, but the dvd unit to my car (Citroen c4 2012) I find nothing ! I can say there are more technical specifications to read.
I found this on aliexpress. Should I buy a hardware upgrade and system "Android 6 + 2GB RAM + RK PX5"

No, it is MTCD with upgraded SOM, so same hardware "motherboard" with 2GB RAM & 3188 CPU. These have been extensively discussed in the forums.
I would like proof of that. Also, we are discussing RK3688 here, not RK3188. Its possible the new CPU means they had to re-write the kernel so maybe this model won't limit BT adaptor access to the MCU alone.

Yes, I know it is not the 3188. The facts are that this is a new SOM which replaces the 3188 SOM, same pinouts. So, how would that work when the MCU controls BT and the SOM has no direct physical connectivity to it?
We wouldnt need to worry about that if they inject generic BT adaptor drivers into the kernel which they did not do with RK3188. If they did that, it wouldnt matter if only the MCU could talk to the onboard bluetooth adaptor because it would give us the ability to use a USB Bluetooth Dongle as a second BT adaptor which would be the one Android would see. In any case, this is going off topic now.
i think all these new units are equipped with the Rockchip PX5 processor (not RK3688 , not listed on Rockchip official website). Hope the new amp chip sounds better than old dual core and quad core units.

You're better off with the INTEL unit. Lots of cool stuff happening with that right now, including custom recovery, and replacement for all of their horrid software.
No telling yet what, if any of that, will carry through to PX5 (which also, despite being 8 cores, is 8 very very WEAK A53 cores).
Just ask yourself why they're charging LESS for the "new PX5" units than the old Intel ones....
Looks like a standard MTCD to me. The software looks identical except for the joying launcher app which would just copy over.

Does it have active cooling, or will thermal throttling still be an issue (as with the sofia)?

Does it support RDS-AF? Your joying intel units don't support that. It is completely incorrect implemented.
Does it support rds-txt? Your joying intel units support it terribly bad, as it is mixed in an 8 byte string together with RDS-PS where the RDS-PS text always has priority over the rds-txt text.

I've got it wired up on my test bench to a PSU ,i've set up a launcher how I like it, set up waze navigation, spotify, and apple music (as well as torque for the widgets).
I'm reluctant to put it in my car, even though it's far more capable than my factory unit, its sooo slow! Boot time is like 10+ seconds, then once booted each app takes ~10 seconds to open on their first run, and apple music is always very slow even once opened. So I will be half way down the road before I have navigation or music working properly.
After about a minute of running once everything is in RAM, its not so bad, fairly snappy apart from Apple music.
It's just not up to the job if you ask me, and I would happily pay 3 times the price for one that is as its capabilities are brilliant, just not performance.
It's a quad core with 2GB RAM and 16gb Storage. They recently released a new version (after I ordered mine) with 8 cores 2gb RAM and 32gb storage, is it going to be much better ? it needs to be at least 4 times faster to make it usable when I jump in the car.
I wonder if I could utilise the display and housing and have a high end flagship smart phone (say my samsung note 8 I m abut to replace for example) connected to that LCD and touchscreen and amplifier etc, its not something I could do myself but if possible I would be happy to pay a professional, the system would be very fast then would it not? however things line canbus talking etc would need to be reverse engineered and made to work.
Or I wonder if I could use the internals of the very newest Joying unit (4gb RAM) inside the chassis of mine an that would be suitable. Or could I possibly upgrade the internal storage to something much faster (and/or bigger).
Another thought on top of all of this is why does it need to shut down at all, why can't it just power off its amplifiers and sleep like a tablet would, a tablet has the apps still in RAM when you come back to use it next time. Can we perhaps work out a way to modify it to do this? I need to open it and see if the amp is a seperate circuit which can be relayed from the ACC on its own, and then put in something along the lines of an Anker power bank to run the rest of the unit in sleep mode when the ignition is off. Any thoughts on the possibilities of this ?
Other than performance I have 2 other complaints ... The bluetooth app for using hands free is ugly and clunky, it hogs the screen during a call, cant even minimise it to go back to navigation, is there a better one, ideally one that integrates with the rest of the system better. Or is there an API I can use to build one... or documentation for accessing the hardware I can use to build one ?
DAB was similar but DAB-z seems much better.
Also I seem to have Access Touch permanently enabled on so I have a n annoying floating button constantly, there is no settings option to turn it off like you would expect under display or accessibility or something.
Any feedback / input / collaboration appreciated, after all if we find ways to improve things it helps us all.
Picture and spec ...

2GB Ram and Android 8.1 combination, there lays the performance problem. Android 7 runs smoother on 2 Gb units.
I would suggest flashing it with Hal9k_mod Rom's and using microG framework !

Thanks I will get onto that.
I would prefer better hardware though .. do you know of any with 4gb+ ram and a good processor that is the same form factor as mine ?
Thanks.
It's not the 2GB memory. 2GB is more than sufficient for Android 8.x (although 4GB is better). If you use large games or the (akward) facebook, you need more memory. For a car unit 2GB is good. I have 2GB and I did actual memory tests: I never had an issue.
It is the too old T3 processor that is the performance issue. That one is very slow. You should have looked to faster processors like the Alwinner T8 or Rockchip PX5. or the new PX6 or Intel Airmont.
Edit: Never take an android 7 unit. All these units are either running on the old Alwinner T3 or the old Rockchip PX3 (RK3188) or the old MediaTek cpu (forgot the type).
Thanks for the input, I seem very limited in my form factor, can you find one with a better CPU and if possible more RAM?
I would like to use apple music which is RAM hungry, but I've uninstalled it for now. Spotify is doing OK, just lacks some content.
Can I transplant another unit into my chassis for better reprformance perhaps?

https://xtrons.com/audi/audi-a3-s3-rs3-android-car-stereo.html
https://www.eonon.com/Car-Type/Audi.html
and more if you search
Thanks for that but the only reason I've finally gone android is becaue they now make one which is pretty much all screen for my car finally! , the fake audi nav looking ones look and feel awful (seen them in friends cars) and the universal double din are OK but hey use a cascading sea of crap plastic adapters to make then fit.
This one I have is the only one that fits well in the car and doesnt look out of place amongst the quality interior. I've been on the look out for about 2 years (the mk5/Mk6 golf ones always impressed me).
I guess I just have to wait until they release one in this same form factor with a decent CPU, it will probably come eventually!
Dont want to seem ungrateful for your help though. Thanks
Is the CPU in this one any good?
Ebay item.. 303046069027
It's the same as mine but xtrons with more storage and 8 core CPU.

You should post a link (or mention which ebay you use. ebay.de or ebay.ca or ebay.whatever. Every country version uses its own item no.'s )
This item number is totally useless. Same from your first post.
I
It's ebay UK
As a junior forum member I can't post Links yet.
I was a member here back in the days of the Pocket PC devices, and used this forum when android was in its infancy. But I don't have my account details so had to start agian.
Thanks for letting me know the item numbers arent International.
I agree links are always better . . . . but being curious, I tried that eBay number on UK, US & NL sites. eBay finds the same item on all three sites.

Really?
I did search with the number 303046069027 and the one from the first post on ebay.nl, ebay.com and ebay.de and can't find them, whereas I do find them on the ebay.co.uk.
Hence my conclusion.
Hi
I have and old Sofia 3R 1 GHz 1 core head unit in my Open Corsa
Its extremely slow and I'd like to update to another unit
What should I know before buying another one? What is the lastest recommended?
I am asking this because i found a little messy this forum, because everyone is talking about a different MCU
thanks beforehand!
teyes and ts7/10/18 (topway) are non FYT based. Theyve got the 2000x1200QLED screens and the TS18 is the 13" 1920x1080 QLED. They are floating units, much like thick tablets. Most of the others headunits out there are either single or double din units, such as joying. There are very few problems when it comes to head units, some are sorted out by the manufacturer-and mostly to do with bluetooth connectivity. FYT based units dont have aggressive restrictions on changing system firmware variables and as such there are some custom roms for those that like to fix certain aspects of their systems such as themes, system managers, rooting, and overall control of the device's software itself. FYT-based units are the most forgiving to work out problems.
I own a Topway TS10 10.36" 2000x1200 8gb/128gb 7862uis cpu and the single problem is that i own a creative gc7 dac that uses spdif and its own bluetooth app. The creative bluetooth app doesnt want to connect to the DAC at all.
If using a DAC and you want to route ALL the head units audio to it than an FYT based unit offers the capability of changing to that. I haven't given any attention to the mediatec android HUs.

Theres are also the new android headunits that have the snapdragon 665 Processor that are now popping up on the market. Ive yet to see anyone review it, but its should be the most up-to-date hardware and software. Possibly real android 11/12, fixes to prior known issues..... maybe....

Yes but if I want to buy a new one I don't know where to start
Heres an FYT based QLED https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mekede-m6pro-plus-with-2k-2000x1200-screen.4516547/. Theres no need to mess with anything to do with MCU unless you plan on modding.
At the time the biggest selling point to me was the 360 degree camera setup, but joying didnt have a unit with that design. You also should consider converting high-level to low-level RCA outputs no matter what headunit you go with, unless you plan on using spdif digital output. Both are options for a stronger voltage and cleaner singal
how can you identify FYT and no FYT?
I won't buy joying again because there is not customisez face for the car anymore

You don't specify what shape you need. For example, Mekede has different types for Opel Corsa, choose the one that suits you. The UIS7862S FYT is listed in the table on the device page, I recommend taking the m600s or m700s, the memory requirements of applications keep increasing. If you want HDMI or a 360° camera, write to the seller.

all you need to know is that FYT is moddable, non FYT has virtually no aftermarket modding support other than what is provided by the manufacturer and a very rare instance of a rooting possibility. Some people prefer non-FYT aka TS10/TS18 because of the more appealing theme, upgradeable Windows Theme firmware, and manufacturing of their own independent software that suits the mass appeal aspect.
FYT and non-FYT can both use the "fastest" processor to date that makes up Android head unit (uis7862). OP needs to ruse through the Mekede, Topway, and Joying FYT kernel mass mega threads.. It might take awhile, but theres tons of helpful info. If you want a bezel matching headunit than that would already limit your options, unless OP you can find a bezel purchase separately. Distinguishing between FYT and Non-FYT ISNT always specified by the resellers. Lots of threads posted about what HU they have. If you want to see more, please post requirements you seek in a HU.... WhATs YoUr bUdGEt.
If i HAD to choose. GO WITH the MEKEDE or TEYES CC3 for FYT based units or the Topway TS10/18 for Non-FYT.

Both of those choices look good, personally Id get the FYT model. Ask seller if it comes with optical output, and if they say optional, just tell them to include it. I can tell you that the 8GB/128gb isn't lightning fast, but it definitely isnt slow. Its CPU is from Q2 2020 so its still speedy. My android test bench without running a ton of background apps eats up 2+gb of ram, so a 7862 with 4gb/64gb would probably be bare minimum. Driving with it running Maps, youtube, amazon music, spotify, carplay, ect probably gets closer to 3.5-4Gb. In terms of hardware, the FYT model is exactly what i own, besides the QLED screen. It also has the option for front/rear usb dvr cameras as well as the 360 degree camera system, as a potential upgrade path.
Opting for the lower ram capacity, you could always add external storage for media content. I wouldnt recommend anything lower than 6Gb seeing as though that is the bare bones stock that comes with loads of tablets, as mainstream tablet manufacturers probably make it 6Gb for a good reason.
Ask the non-FYT seller if their HU supports 360 degree bird eye camera, if you are interested in that.

well. 8/128 GB 210K in Antutu means more than Oneplus 3T mobile, is low for todays standarts of speed in mobile phone, but remember I come from Sofia 3gr with 1 core at 1 Ghz
My idea is getting 6 or 8 GB of RAM if possible and UIS7862S FYI if I can. I think I can have it till the end of the times of my corsa hehe
I wouldn't change SOFIA, but is extremely slow and unresponsive, and being x86 some apk on the internet don't run propertly
Its a big plus if you can find out if the one in question is an FYT model, make sure to ask. First thing Id do with an FYT model is install MarioDantas FYT manager and kernel rom. His mod offers lots of optimizations for 6Gb/8Gb models. Take a look https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/kernel-fyt-7862-a-s-kernel-md-edition-with-fmc.4542673/
