How to get better battery on 3G!?

Battery life on 3G is utterly terrible. I lost about 45% battery in around 45 mins. 1% per min. Its shockingly bad. Especially when battery on WiFi is so decent. Is there anything I can do to get better battery? With 3g? I'm currently on PA 3+ latest build and Faux kernel (eco mode plus under clocked)
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Try motley kernel. I get about 1.5 hrs on 3g browsing with that kernel once the battery hits 50%. It has the best battery life out of all the kernels I have tried.
Franco kernel seems to do wonderful things for my battery life on 3g.
How strong is your 3g reception? If it's poor signal I think it's going to drain battery quickly regardless of anything else you do. I get very good battery life at work where I have full bars, but if I try to stay on 3g at home when I only have 1 bar, battery drains much faster.
I get 1hr SOT per 25% battery, settings below
I'm on PA3 using their contrasty kernel. 3g battery life is fine.
Ignore the posts above stating to flash another kernel because that isn't the problem.
1. Ensure your phone is deep sleeping. No wakelocks. Use CPU Spy & BetterBatteryStats (google it, you can find a free version for XDA users)
If there are wakelocks:
- Uninstall the app causing the wakelock
2. Change refresh intervals on apps to a larger interval.
3. Using apps like Facebook? Disable GPS. Facebook likes to use GPS even though it shouldn't be using it as location is off etc etc.
...... Also what halluc said, what is your 3G reception like? The poorer reception you have, the more battery your phone will consume.
If you don't have any wakelocks, then you just live in a really poor reception area and need better reception for better battery life. Talk to your carrier and try and improve reception or take your service somewhere else that will provide better reception.

Il check out BBS tomorrow and see if theres any wakelocks. I already have refresh on low though. And my GPS is already off
Well, my signal is OK. I use wifi all the time at home so i dont worry about signal at home. The main times i use my phone on 3G is for about an hour a day on the bus. The signal is different all the way through the bus rides. I also check it alot aswell throughout the day. Reading emails, texts etc.

What's your battery life?

Guys, please post your battery life screenshots. Mine is fine
Dont have screenies but my SOT is 3 and half hours . Pac rom Lp 5.1 Caf D802 .
There is already a thread about battery life where users posted their screens...anyway your screen in the first post is useless to determine battery life. Dont mean to be rude but it really is useless, because if you barely use the phone, you can reach 120h+ easily. You have to give more information. Even the screen on time is not accurate to determine battery life, because there are some users who use their phone like an e-reader and get massive amounts of screen time that are impossible to reproduce when using the phone on normal conditions. Not everyone uses the phone in the same conditions. A good way to determine it would be the screenshot like you gave, another one with the apps showing consumption, another one with screen time and a screenshot of cpu spy or any other cpu measuring app(because this will make it easy to spot how those e-readers get so much sot, usually their lowest cpu frequency is used a LOT, unlike normal users)
always 6-6.5 hours sot. can hold up to 3 days or more with light usage using Cloudyg2 2.2.
Fyi, cloudy g2 is not the reason you get 6h+ sot... unless you're significantly reducing performance and/or screen brightness. No rom can beat physics(and logic).
I average 5h sot over 2-3 days with wifi/data/sync/auto brightness on. Can easily go a week in standby if check it a few times a day. Running stock sprint lollipop with latest zvi update.
Well that's depressing....I have a battery life of maybe 4 hours with 1 to 1,5 hours of screen on time........I made a post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/battery-messed-t3297770.
If anybody has a suggestion I would be more than pleased. Been using the phone for +2 years. And looking at the screenshots of yours, I hadn't had that in a loooongloooong time
At full charge, plugging in earphone and listening to music or videos on youtube , i get like 3 and half and sometimes 4 hours depending on the rom. Screen is set to the lowest. I dont install much app, especially which connects to the internet silently in the backgroud. Disable location services and all too helps. At idle with wifi on and phone radio is 90% or more good signals, it lasts for about 3 or 2 and half days (depends on kernel too) . What rom you using @deereper ??Have you tried reducing google service battery drain via script and all ?
deereper, and anyone else getting under 3h sot, your battery is shot. I had similar battery performance until I replaced it. In my experience custom roms/kernels may make a very minor difference but have much worse performance and stability.
Yeah, I ordered a new battery.
I really don't want to but a new phone just for the battery.
And yes, with those battery stats it doesn't matter if you run stock or aosp
It's D802 btw, auto brightness 0%, wifi data gps always on. SOT 6-6.5hours only with continuous usage, if add in standby SOT average around 4.5-5 hours

Standby Battery Drain

I've had the phone just a week and if I am using heavy then the battery is pretty good, lasts 4 hours plus. Better than my G5.
However, if I am barely using and only sending the occasional WhatsApp and not much else, then the battery doesn't seem to last as long, for example it drained to 50% today with very little use, only 1 hour of SOT. Wifi and location were on, but Bluetooth off.
I've taken some screenshots of battery stars with gSam. Could someone help me decipher what is causing the drain? Or if this is normal behaviour?
Everyone is saying that this phone has amazing standby battery life because of 7.0, Doze, etc. So I am confused!

Looks like you have something running in The background keeping it from falling into deep sleep which is why. Unfortunately I suck @ troubleshooting these kinds of scenarios. My guess would be a Google service of some type. My brother had a problem with Gmail one time that was draining his battery while the phone was in sleep

Less than 3h SOT

I've had this device for about a week. Every day battery stats are similar tothis: couldn't even get to 3h SOT if I let it drain completely.
Is the medium (yellow) network signal the cause of this? Is anyone getting this bad battery life?

You either have a seriously misbehaving app or something is really wrong. Over Saturday and Sunday I tried to kill the battery and couldn't. It was over 9 hours sot. I had to breakdown and charge it with work tomorrow in driving 1:30 each way to see clients.
I've reached seven hours of SoT even with playing games for six hours or so.
Could even go beyond nine hours without playing (to much).
You probably should let OP replace it.
on average I got over 5 to 6 hours SOT with medium to moderate and even with GPS.
I got 5.5 sot today
Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I've got 5h SOT today with dual SIM installed and 4G data always on.
Bad Signal could lead to massive drain. How is you cellular signal? Im coming from and S7 and absolutely love the battery. Can't drain it during an normal day of usage while the S7 always needed a little charging in the evening
My signal is terrible (jumps between 2g 3g and 4g all day long) and would normally expect to get 3 to 4 hours SOT. The best I had was 5.5 hours SOT which was through streaming over 4g. I have this problem on all my devices so I guess it must be signal related.
So far today I'm down to 72% with only 30 minutes SOT! (Took it off charge 7 hours ago)
You could try to switch network mode to 3g only or 3g/2g. A bit disappointing regarding speed but would help. Which country do you live and which carrier?
Regarding the quality of the signal, the second attached picture shows it, it's mostly medium strength. I don't know if that's bad enough for this battery drain.
I will try switching the network mode (I'm from Spain with Orange) and factory resetting the phone before I ask for a replacement.
These days I've been trying the LG G6 because I really liked it and the prize dropped to 410€ (O+5 is 500€ here). However, I'm definitely choosing the Oneplus. Despite the price, design, water resistance and sd card slot being big wins for the G6; using the O+ is much nicer, because of the speed and fluidity and the software.

Getting very less standby time. Please help me

Hi all,
I tried all the possible solutions Greenify, Format etc. but my battery still drains more than 3% per hour.
Should I go and change the device from service center? I am wondering they will not take this as a replacement.
Do you disable GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not using?
The standby drain will persist depending on the 4G signal strength. If you are in a strong coverage area, it should not be more than 1.5%-2%/hr. Also are you on WQHD or FHD? Disabling AOD and being on FHD helps.
Also seeing strong standby drain after the last update, not sure why?

by strong do you mean good or bad?
Bad, dropping 2 to 3 percent per hour

4G signal may be an issue.. I dont have strong network at home and office. but rest of the things like FHD, disabling AOD all the tweaks I have done.

Download 'Network Cell Info" from playstore and check your signal strength. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wilysis.cellinfo&hl=en). Also here is a ready reference to evaluate 4G LTE signal parameters: http://blog.industrialnetworking.com/2014/04/making-sense-of-signal-strengthsignal.html
Hope this helps!

This. For some reason, the signal at my house is just horrible. Maybe it has to do with the tall trees surrounding the area? I get much worst standby time compare to when I'm at my vacation home.
Yeah this is only the negative I have right now with this phone. I get impressive 6 to 7 hours SOTs before needing recharge but standby times are bad despite no using AOD and keeping all apps at always sleep in settings but I am not rooted yet.
My rooted S5 LTE-A with RR gets impressive 2 and sometimes up to 3 days standby with 3G/LTE but thats with greenify and adaway.
Anyone here with rooted S8 with greenify get more standby time?

How do you get 6-7 hrs SOT when your standby is bad?. My standby is about 2%/hr and I get 4-5 hrs SOT mixed wifi and 4G LTE.

That scenario would be charging the phone to 100%, LTE/3G at full bars, watching youtube podcast videos @ 480p for total of 4+ hours, reading ebook for an hour and some web browsing for remaining time till 5%.
Problem is when I charge 100% and just leave the phone for about 6 hours no use whatsoever, i get 85 - 80 after checking again. That is with good signal as well.

Yes when using continuous it gives 5-6 hours SOT. But when phone is idle it gives me really less SOT

The SOT needs to be ignored. What matters is standby time. If we dont use the phone for a couple of hours and you see the battery drop considerably then something is wrong with your apps/signal. BBS/GSM helps point out the wakelocks for apps, but a bad signal has limited options. Its high time, Google & OEMs should try and address the standby drain issues. This is one area where iOS excels, due to a closed and nuclear approach towards apps.
