I just got from a friend an Acer Iconia a500 he says that is bricked.
I tried this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572622
But I can't continue because I don't have ADB access, what should I do?.
Thanks for all and God bless you.
EDIT:
I got everything to using the secret APX mode, but now is still everything the same the Android System is still there and not charging and not touchscreen...
Go to the bottom to see how I solved this lol...

If your tablet Iconia 500 (ONLY ACER ICONIA A500) went crazy, and present the next symptoms (Yes it has flu...):
-flu
-Android System icon
-Doesn't want to charge (20% / 15% 12%).
-TouchScreen is not responsive.
-Always when you turn it on says Shutting down and never shuts down.
-In case you're using ICS shuts down immediately without even make you see.
The solution is the next!:
1. Download this file: http://www.4shared.com/archive/zyP91E0C/root-321-V4.html (This is the file to put recovery in case that you don't have it).
2. Extract all the files in any folder, it doesn't matter where you put it.
3. Go to Image Folder and rename the recovery to: anyname.img.
4. Download any of the lastest recoveries for Acer Iconia a500 (it will work believe me lol).
5. Put the recovery in the Image folder (Ex. Iconia/root-3.2.1/Image/) and rename it to recovery.img
6. Now open with Administrator Rights DotNetDetecter.exe
7. Continue, continue and continue.
8. If you have ADB Active just put it and it will install it. (If you don't have it just go to 8.1)
8.1 Shut down the tablet completly, connect your USB Cable *micro* (Tablet-Computer), take a paper clip and put it on reset without release it then press the power button and count until 4 or u4ntil you hear the sound when you plug something into Windows
8.2 Now your tablet is in APX Mode and the Acer Utility should now work.
9. Put your UID with a 0 in front of all the numbers (if you don't have it go to secret step).
10. Now let everything work. After everything is done you should have recovery now.
11. Press down volume and the tablet will take you to the recovery.
12. Download some ROM 3.2 or ICS 4.0.3, install it via recovery.
13. Download this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?9svnvdk982sxrw4
14. Install the version you have choosen via Recovery.
15. Voila! Your tablet is revived right now
Press thanks button if this helped you =D
SECRET STEP TO GET UID (IS NOT SECRET THOUGH... lol)
Just go to USB tools and use USBdeview, and is done... (Remember to stay in APX Mode)

Acer Recovery from the Market should have the most recent RA Recovery, and the original GPL compliant CWM recovery.
Or if you already have the original CWM, you can get the most recent RA Recovery here. Just check the threads for the flash files.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459821
For CWM you will need to go to tegraowners.

Problems with opening up settings to turn on usb debugging
Hi Travisantonio,
I have a question:
Did you have any problems opening up the settings when you were on the black "android system" screen?
My touch screen is completely unresponsive at the moment.
Maybe I didnt read or understand everything but with my tab USB view didnt give me my ID or it wouldnt work. Got into ADX mode but couldnt get things working. Tried ADB to list devices and would never list anything. I heard my computer beep when I would hook it up but couldnt really do or complete anything. I couldnt get the DOTNETDETECTOR (PBJUPRADE_ to work. Tried A500 APX flash utitlity. Tired nvflash and falied. Guess I should list more information but at this point I tried so many things to recover dont remember the order I did things. I originally tried to upgrade to a Rom but all things failed and actually not sure what ever got completed. Only thing I could tell my tab did besides black screen was the power button either was white(some type of one) or orange.
This helped me to recover my bricked Acer 500 tablet after a failed ICS upgrade. The Acer update seemed to go okay, but on reboot it froze at the Acer logo and had an error in the corner. Every reboot or button/reset resulted in this. It would not recover or do anything else. I was able to get the USB device ID /serial number using the USB deview 64 program in the usb folder. There were several entries for the tablet but only one had a usable number (bottom right line at the end). Then the tool wiped the tablet and reloaded 3.2.1 and booted to factory new. Thanks for the instructions and to all the other XDA-ers for the tools. I am now on ICS properly.
Trying to recover a bricked acer a500, I just have a black screen on boot with no boot logo, vibration or letters or words on the screen
trying to enter recovery/update mode doesnt work
Im up to the step where is says put in your UID into the program
Just go to USB tools and use USBdeview, and is done...

I did this and found the device but where exactly is the UID located?
looking at other threads, the serial number is the UID however the serial number entry is blank for this device

this method is total overkill for your situation....
how did u get yr tab like this???
if u have total black screen - is the power button lite on?????
what bootloader version are u on
have you had a custom recovery on there
to get your cpuid follow the first link to a guide in my signature - you need to follow steps in the guide if you have any probs then post in the guide thread
the previous owner said he tried to install a custom rom and I think it crashed and this is the result
the power light turns on (white)
if I just power it on, the backlight turns on however its just a black screen, nothing else happens
apx mode seems to be the only thing working right now, I thought this method would be my only chance to get the recovery mode working again
I dont know anything else about the tablet, bootloader ect...

ok thats cool, apx mode works!!!
well try this first - using hard reset:
1) Turn off your tablet,
2) Rotation lock on your left;
3) Press Vol Up closest to rotation lock and power on simultaneously
4) As soon as the tablet vibrates you can release the power button and you should start to switch rotation lock left and right till you see
Erasing Userdata...
Erasing Cache...
Vol Up is still pressed;
5) The tablet starts to format
6) Your tablet will be as clean as it can be.
otherwise plan B!!!
do u know whether tab was running HC or ICS?
u need some package files and a flash tool either apxflash or nvflash
if u start the tools and then connect your tab via usb cable to your pc
there are links to guides in my sig
my cpuid guide shows u what u need and where to get it, info about your cpuid too and drivers - altho you wont need to worry too much seeing as youre in apx
civatos guide has all the links to the packages and all the info you need to patch the bootloader, then you can flash one of the ics roms and youre all good!!!
the process is simple enough - but if you get it wrong it can be frustrating as heck!!!!
tried that method, get no vibration, devices just turns on to the black screen like normal
the only problem right now, I cant retrieve the uid
adb
when I type adb devices, nothing shows up
A500 manager
tried to the use the uid retriever tool however it just stays blank, same for the bootloader
it says it detects the A500 in apx mode
usbdevice view
shows no serial number for this device
I see there is a A500 motherboard on ebay (cant link to outside links...)
"Acer Iconia A500 Tablet Replacement Parts - MainBoard - 32GB MB, H6000 001 PBJ20"
"Complete with Android 4.x installed, 32GB memory and ready to install and boot."
could I get that and just replace the whole mobo and it will work fine?

OK just clarify - black screen, that is, nothing at all displayed AND Power Light ON??
IF u r in apx mode then
U have a couple of options
EUU flash back to HC 3.2.1 or
apxFlash to ICS
Everything you need for doing this is in my cpuid guide link in my sig.
open apxflash tool do not connect your tab Yet
Go as far as the enter apx mode
Now connect your tab to yr pc
Windows should install apx drivers
Once installed. try clicking blue arrow first
If u don't see the do u want to flash window then
You'll need to click on the "enter apx mode " button instead then
Click blue arrow
Hopefully the PC and tab are feeling pretty friendly and decide to take each other on
The tab should flash the bl and install recovery.....u should be good to go from there!!!
EDIT you can try cmd prompt on nvflash folder
Run a500.bat or.bat file that should kick you to bootloader mode
its really important that your screen display something in white letters!!
Entering Acer download mode OR
Entering apx mode
The flash will fail if u don't see something like this. This holds true for all methods

yes, its just a black screen, no vibration, no boot logo, no letters or words on the screen, backlighting for the screen is on, and the power light is on
when I press the blue arrow in a500 apx flash tool it asks me for my SBK, going to that generator site it then asks for my UID which I cant retrieve

if you do not have your cpu id and
if you do not have access to adb and
you're stuck in apx mode
then things are looking grim.....
the only way to get into your tab without yr cpuid is fastboot
but you need adb working for that
someone else was stuck in apx mode a day or two ago, try a search...maybe...
I'm sorry guys I was a little off of this thread .
I will be glad to help you guys to get your UID or any problem that you have even though I don't have the Tablet anymore.

There is no way to fastboot the tablet in that mode, the only way is to get the UID and then decode it and NVFlash the Bootloader after it is done then put ICS or HC and the EC_ROM files and the tablet will be working again.
I'm gonna throw in the towel and just buy a new mobo for cheap, it seems im screwed without the UID and cant retrieve it either
I wish the previous owner would have gotten the UID beforehand

What do I exactly do?
I dont have any access to the devices files and do not have a dump
So a couple of weeks ago I accidentally let my battery die, which I try not to do because I have trouble getting it to turn back on again and this time it did just that: my tablet wouldn't power on at all. I searched up my symptoms: Power light comes on, Doesn't vibrate, Black screen, and everything pointed to either my motherboard went kaput or APX Mode. A new motherboard for my model is upwards of 50$, so I tried looking into what APX Mode meant. I'm decent with computers but this was beyond me, or more so that I have no idea where to find the files/programs to flash(?) it. Anyway digging through the threads here I looked at a recent one here and on a whim I tried the suggestion, even though it was to another problem they were having with APX Mode. And it worked!
My tablet turned on fine, but I am skeptical of how long that will last. So, some questions that I hope someone can help me with are, what is a "fastboot", and does it hurt the system in any way if used repeatedly? Is there another way (an app or something) that will be able to tell me my UID and SBK other than through a Linux computer? Also, bootloading, does that root the device in any way? When I was looking around it didn't sound like it did, but then sometimes it did and now I'm just confused.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for looking!
All files needed for unlocking the bootloader, rooting and unbricking can be found in the root guide in my sig. Along with methods of retrieving the cpuid and also a guide to flash the bootloader using the apxflash tool - I try and keep download links up2date, let me know if you have any probs.
If your tab does have a faulty emmc and I'm not saying it does...it will eventually fail, being stuck at the Acer screen seems to be the most common symptom, followed by the inability to flash.
Fastboot gives the ability to perform wipes and flash via the windows command prompt...
Root is gained (on ics) with icsRoot tool...once done you can then nvflash the unlocked bootloader.

Ah, thank you! I will definitely go through those. I checked the cpuid one last night in case it decided to die while I was sleeping, so that's good. Although my sister's tablet doesn't have that file on hers at all? And its the same model ... anyway.
emmc? Forgive me, I am not well versed in these abbreviations. It hasn't gotten stuck at the Acer screen yet since I've had it, but ... its always a possibility.
Hmm, I didn't have it connected to the computer when I tried fasbooting it — is it considered something else when you power the tablet on holding the Power Button + the Volume Up button? Maybe it wasn't in APX Mode at all then, but I don't know if that makes it better or worse. No other way would make it turn on, it was just a dead black screen no matter what I did, and then I tried that and the Acer logo popped up.
And, sorry just to be clear, there's no way to unbrick a tablet without rooting it?
Thanks so much
emmc = memory chip!
Per+vol down = custom recovery
Pwr+vol UP = fastboot
Drivers - From Acer and adb_fastboot drivers from android sdk (or the mini.zip in the guide)
Cpuid/sbk imperative to run most of the unbricking files which are based on nvflash.
Root - unavailable on hc 3.2, not needed to unbrick but usb debugging needs to be enabled in settings. For ics use icsRoot,
skrilax_cz unblocked bootloader - needed to install custom roms. Needs cpuid. Will also flash cwm recovery. Gives fastboot ability. So you can flash a new recovery thru Windows command prompt i.e. enter fastboot
Open command prompt
Type in: fastboot flash recovery "name_of_your_recovery'.img
EUU - Acer upgrade tool which gets you back to stock. PC based, needs cpuid and also used to unbrick.
update.zip - Acer stock updates, some are full os dates some are just incremental updates. Used also to help with softbrick like getting stuck on the Acer screen. Cpuid not required, flashed via ext sd card.
Think that's it in a nutshell...as stated get your cpuid NOW
Which build of Android is the tab running??

I've seen nothing on the 1050F or any of the Android based tablets (even numbers). The Russian forum has a guide for the Windows tablets (odd numbers). I'm trying to keep up on what they are doing. I'm collecting files to help us later on...
I'm proud to have contributed to this tip section .
Note that this trip works on majority of 5.0x devices.
One question : is there a 830f version with windows, as suggests :

This. I had rooted kitkat on a pal's 830LC. He update to an OTA (lollipop according to him) and got stuck in vicious boot loop. I downloaded YT2-830LC_S0184_150422_ROW and whatever I'd do, flashing system image would fail. Finally, changed force sparcing to 500MB, and suddenly, it's what's all the fuss?!? By the way, Windows 10 x64, used IntelAndroidDrvSetup1.9.0.
Thanks a ton :good:

Thanks Workdowg, and Thanks tang1331726 for your patience.
My english might be incorrect, but as I per my understanding this fix is when you are stuck and only solution is downgrading from KK to LL.
My situation is somewhat different as I've succesfully ugraded, without any glitch, thanks to the timming Tip warnig (this is a gold one, I wonder how many RMA Lenovo will have to deal with !!)
My exact situation :
830-F
Lollipop OTA succesfully installed (5.01 July 10 2015)
Problem occur using SuperSU (2,40, 2,46, 2,49) after successfully booted tethered recovery.
Can you confirm me that I've to do the process described by tang1331726 to fix the E: signature error, and that I'll still be under Lollipop ?
ps: I guess there's noway to get Windows 8 or 10 on my 830F, altough 851F seems very, not to say tottally, hardawre similar.

You are very welcome!
As far as the "E: signature error" please try posting in the Intel tethered recovery thread. Those guys should be able to help. Some people had luck by placing the SuperSU zip on the MicroSD and installing from there. Also try using the another recovery. I use TWRP on my 1050F.
We are trying to get Windows and/or Linux running on these Android based YT2's. Keep looking back here for more info...
Hi all,
Is there already a way to root the brand new Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 pro?
I want to buy it, but I can't imagine having an unrooted device...

i have no idea not having access to such a device, but considering the similar hardware with the YT2 model (well better a little but not by that much) it should work with the exact same method uset for YT2. so yes 99% that it's root-able (maybe even unlock-able, someone on your thread asked me, yet he did not sent nothing no files when asked so i don't know much about the internals of YT3)
Thanks for your answer.
So if I try this (T4 I think):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57543871&postcount=1
It won't brick my device? It will work, or not work but no brick?

there are other ways of knowing whether that or maybe even other new commands work, i would need from someone to send me a dump of his fastboot partition so i can check inside (my bet is that what works on YT2 willdo on YT3 too... and i am pretty sure it will work up to YT100 knowing how Lenovo works )
I don't have the tablet yet, so I can't have the files you need. Who has the yoga tab pro 3?
I have it but I can't seem to find working adb/fastboot drivers. Stuck on device unknown.
OK drivers sorted but getting an unknown OEM command on both T3 and T4. so no joy yet

1. the easy way:
- if anyone has access to the droidboot.img and can send it (from the rom, did not found any on my quick searches, or maybe when you do an OTA, don't install it yet and look inside)
2. a little more complicated one (working on 1050 and could work on your tab) will NOT CHANGE anything on your tab all happens in memory and gets lost at reboot:
- download tmp-root-1050F-lollipop.zip from here and extract
- place your tab in DnX mode: PowerOff, then while pressing boh VolUp&voulDown (and keep them pressed) press Pwr to start (keeping vols pressed), release Pwr when the logo show and in a few sec the screen will say "Fastboot starting..." and hang on that message (you are in DnX mode now)
- run the exe downloaded, follow the instructions if all is well (hopefully) it will open a temporary root shell where you can do stuff otherwise not possible on the "after boot to Android" environment
- open a new Windows command prompt (cmd) and enter some commands:
adb shell "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 of=/tmp/fastboot.img"
adb pull /tmp/fastboot.img
send me that file so i can look into it and see what is changed on your tab
this is just some preliminary, if the temp_root works (let's hope) many things besides rooting are possible, but for rooting the easiest way would be to adapt the existing method from YT2 to whatever is changed on your tab

Hallo,
Thank you for your work. I have a little bit afraid of this method .
Too bad that there are so few users here . But the Tab is still so new.
Perhaps an even experiencer user dares. Sorry !!!
At Weekend i will take your method and send you the file.
Unfortunately the tmp-root seems not to be working. Dnx mode - no problem and the .exe file starts but sticks on the preparing to push files line. On the tab after a few seconds a service menu appears ( board test, rf calibration etc.) Option 5 on this menu is droidboot but this crashes the .exe file. If someone else wants to confirm it's not my (old and messed up windows 7) machine then it seems pretty riskfree
Just noticed a tiny message on tablet ( must be a screen resolution thing) shortly after executing .exe about certificate verification failing.

we tried. it was rejected by the bios right from start and never even got the chance to load (that message means just that).
somehow, someway we must get a fastboot image so we can see what can we use (grab from the tab or from stock rom).
i've seen your stock rom avail yet i don't know if they are legit (they seem). also is a payed one.
one more try:
go in fastboot (droidboot) mode and try and see what these commands will output (to see if at least one is still valid):
fastboot flash /tmp/some_small_file some_small_file (use a real file ofcourse, to see if we can still write to the device)
fastboot oem unzip
fastboot oem fastboot2adb
fastboot oem factory2tmp
(they won't do nothing in this config, yet we'll be able to see if meaybe one is still working, ie it doesnt say 'unknown command')
Flash file gives cannot load,; the others give unknown command.

try again the fastboot flash (i edited the syntax in the prev post)
however, i think that a droidboot.img will make things a lot more easier
so whoever grabs a stock rom...
So, @Shug69, did you try the edited commands?

Been travelling. Can try tomorrow but I agree we need to find a ROM. The site ionioni linked to may be legit but 25 bucks to find out seems a bit steep.
ok. back at pc - sure i'd bricked it there - ran 'fastboot oem unlock' and it unlocked the bootloader. woudnt boot normal though afterwards and it took several reboots after ' fastboot oem lock' to get past the Lenovo logo. Device is wiped of course
My experience has been a little different so far. Just picked up the tablet today.
I toggled Allow OEM unlock and enabled debugging in Developer Options. I installed the Lenovo Suite software (which was really just a driver pack) then ran adb reboot bootloader to reboot. It got me to a Lenovo splash.
fastboot oem unlock didn't work for me. It gave me an error message:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
...
FAILED (remote: Need wipe userdata. Do 'fastboot oem unlock-go')
finished. total time: 0.005s
Running fastboot oem unlock-go worked immediately and the tablet rebooted to the typical Android factory wipe screen. Could be coincidental, but I got an OTA notice after I did the whole first-time Android setup. I denied the update, but copied down the update name: YT3-X50F_S000015_150917_ROW_TO_YT3-X50f_S000016_151002_ROW
Hey everyone, kingroot now works to root the yoga 3 8".

Great news. I have confirmed that it works using my non-Pro Yoga Tab 3 8". Do I need to keep the Kingroot app installed after I have unroot device? The only issue I have is updating the SU binary in SuperSU. More to come after I debloat my device.
Thank you once again.

"The Original Taepo Dong"
Flashing Stock ROM failed.
Now won't boot of course, nor I can access fastboot. It's gone.
After turning Tablet on shows: "Boot Failed. EFI Hard drive"
and straight after that: "Boot Succeeded - Enter Setup"
Then BIOS like or actually BIOS shows - Title - VALLEYVIEW CO PLATFORM...
How can I fix fastboot? Or Droid Boot? I didn't even know I had BIOS in background?
I guess all blame me because I had Rooted... Is it trashing Tablet next step? Cause I couldn't find anything. I just wanted to go back to Stock ROM.
Anyone saw somewhere how to bring back fastboot? Or make it boot-able anything useful?
In that BIOS there is Boot Manager option and offers
- EFI Hard drive - Device path : PciRoot (0x0) /Pci (0x17, 0x0) /Ctrl (0x0)
- EFI Internal Shell - Device path : MemoryPapped (0xB,0xFFF50000,0xFFF8FFFF) /FvFile(C...
Can I somehow go somewhere from here?
Device Manager
Boot Maintenance Manage - has option Boot From FIle
- Boot Next Value... I'm lost.
I'm browsing that bios all possible ways to find something useful, but with no success.. Please help.
EDIT1: I find out that holding Power button and BOTH volume keys will start FastBoot - But mine stucks on "FastBoot Starting..."
There is already thread on xda discussing what to do when you got UEFI screen. restore-kitkat-bios-830-1050-v2 tool is the answer.
I lost that thread, so I'll answer to mine thread:
My state was - tablet ended up in UEFI. Couldn't get through but I did on the end with novice mistakes. So, here is advice and mistakes which cost me some time.
Spot that you need to be in DnX mode - kk-tool says that - pressed Volume keys and power button. Then tablet says FastBoot Starting...
Do not run KK bios restore tool with Intel Phone Flash Tool opened. Close Intel Phone Flash Tool. Then run kk-tool and follow instructions.
Then use Intel Platform Flash Tool to flash ROM (you need android driver and USB driver). I have used and working (not first image but some other second download worked): YT2-1050F_S0198_150422_ROW. Then I have tried to update to Android Lollipop but install failure.. Killed KitKat.. I'll google more tomorrow.
Let me know if you find working ROM able to update all the way successfully to Lollipop.
Looks scary when you see grey-blue UEFI screen - Oh, I must screwed up pretty bad if I lost FastBoot... You might think something like that, like I did. But kk tool really kick-off and helped.
I have searched quite thoroughly in this forum but I can not seem to find the restore-kitkat-bios-830-1050-v2 tool . I have this same problem and can not get my 830LC running.

Updating this old thread. I found my 1050F tablet and it has the same problem. I tried to download the files from the latest link of the thread but the link is dead
If anyone has those files it would be useful to me (and surely others)
