Hello,
I am trying to root my GT P7510, so I can allow it to accept ad hoc wifi connections.
So I tried this link from Android Authority called "How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi GT-P7510" ( I can't post links yet).
Anyhoo - did all the steps...and nothing. No errors. A screen said it was done and gave credits. I tried to root check apps - both came up negative.
I tried these steps twice (see full below):
In recovery mode, choose “Install zip from sdcard,” then “Choose zip from sdcard,” locate and select “Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip”, and finally confirm flashing the ZIP file.
It says for "Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 GT-P7510 WiFi-only (Retail)" which is the version I have (16GB). Anything else I should check for?
Suggestions as to why it failed?
Where should I look? Running Android 4.04, Kernel 3.1.10. Any more info required? Any place I should be looking for a better way to do this?
Thanks,
V

FYI - I did upgrade my version of android from 3.1 to 4.04 - does an upgrade - remove root access? Do I need a .zip file for ICS?
Thanks,
V

You need to update Superuser. Go to the Superuser site Here and download 3.1.3 ARM signed. Save it on your tablet's root, go into recovery, flash it and reboot...you should be fine after that. Come on back and let us know you're OK when you're done.
And guess what...it is Android verions specific....so Galaxy Tab Hacks .com helped me to do it.
Hopefully this thread helps someone else....

Yep, that works too. Only difference is this guy's root zip contains SuperSU rather than Superuser. Either way works congratulations, you're rooted!

THIS one works for me
First and most important thing for installing/upgrading to Stock MM is clean install (even for Odin flash). That`s why we need a WIPED device. And if you fellow this step, then hopefully you`ll never get any issues (bootloop, abnormal battery drain etc). and this is for rooted devices with custom recovery (TWRP).
I always follow these setps.
DO it at your own risk.
1. Go to TWRP Recovery mode (by pressing volume up + power + home button)
2. Enter in Wipe menu
3. Advance wipe
4. Tick Cashe,Data, System, Internal Storage (except external storage/ Micro SD Card) and swipe to wipe.
5. Go to Reboot menu.
6. Power off the device. (Ignore " No OS Installed " message).
7. Open back cover and pull out Sim cards and Memory card(if any).
8. Download Odin ( I use v.3.11.1).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
9. Install essential drivers for your device in your PC/Laptop..
10. Download Stock MM (latest) Firmware for your Device from sammobile.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-J700F/
11. Extract (.tar.md5) it in Odin folder.
12. Go to Download Mode (volume down + power + home button and then volume up)
13. Open odin
14. Connect your device with Original Usb cable.
15. Odin will say "Added" once you connected your device. If not, then check all the drivers and Usb cable.
16. In Odin, make sure "Auto Reboot " and "F. Reset Time" options are Ticked.
17. And make sure "Re Partition" option is not ticked Or marked (checke twice). Don`t touch any other options in Odin.
18. Click on "AP" tab and select the firmware you extracted earlier for your device (.tar).
19. check again everything.
20. If everything is OK. then click on "Start" and sit back.
Odin will display "PASS", when it completed.
And your device will reboot.
After setting your device, power off your device and insert Sim cards (must) and Memory card (optional).
Switch on your device.
Here you can check for the latest software update for your device again. If any update is available, it`ll ask for download and install the latest OS. you should install this update (if available) with wifi/data connection. I`ve installed the latest "J700FXXU2BPG3_J700FODD2BPF9_INS.zip" and after setting the device for the first time, it asked for the OS update again. I downloaded and installed the update and it was "BPH2" with "August Security Patch".. And now I`ve "BPH2" in my device. And I think this the latest update from samsung for J700F.
AND AFTER THAT YOU SHOULD DO FACTORY RESET.
Now you can setup your device according to your wish. And enjoy new stock MM.
These are the steps , I always follow when installing /upgrading any samsung device and really it always provides a very stable and smooth performance.
I just share my procedures.Hope it helps.

Followed all steps to root phone.
But odin displays Fail (Auth) error. Not sure how to root my phone
Hello. I did root my phone few days ago using Odin, I can help you.
What do you need:
SuperSU ZIP File (For your Android version, to check in Settings -> About device) and copy it to phone memory
TWRP Recovery MD5 File (for Odin) (for your phone model, check in Settings -> About device)
Now steps:
1. Enable OEM Unlock in Developer Options (If not unlocked, Settings -> About device -> Tap "Build Number" 7 times)
2. Open Odin and select AP (maybe PDA)
3. Find your TWRP File and select it
4. Turn off your phone, go to Download Mode (Volume Down, Home and Power buttons), click Volume Up (once)
5. Connect your device to your PC (In Download Mode you need to see Odin Mode!)
6. If in Odin you have seen "Added!" click Start
7. If Odin will fail, try again (I needed to)
8. If you have already flashed TWRP, go to it (Volume Up, Home and Power buttons)
9. Go to Wipe option and swipe to do default wipe.
10. Now click Install, select your SuperSU file.
11. Swipe to do it (Zip authentication disabled!!!!)
12. After it's done, reboot your phone again to your OS.
13. Enjoy your new root!
Optional Step: download Root Checker from Google Play and check your root.
I hope I did help you.
