weird volume button behavior D802 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since some time my volume buttons aren't working as they should. When I press the volume up button it goes up a bit but then straight down again, as if its pressing both up and down at the same time.
Most of the time it does this, sometimes it works properly but almost never. Same goes for the volume down button.
I was thinking it was probably my volume/power connector, so I ordered a brand new, original lg g2 d802 connector and I just now replaced it, but I'm still having the same problem! I've also installed several new roms/kernels since this problem has been happening so I don't think its software related.
This is very annoying when I have a bootloop and I have to enter recovery, because it basically wont recognize I'm pressing volume down.
Anyone have any idea what is causing this and how to fix it?

Anyone?

Still having the same problem, flashed factory image, so it cant be software right? and also replaced the whole volume buttons board, so how can it be hardware? Really confusing. If anyone has any insight, or anything else i could try, it would be greatly appreciated!

Volume buttons stopped working.

I had an energy rom on my hd 2 until the weekend,
The phone was off so when I powerd it up the screen went straight to volume up, (like the up volume button was stuck.)
I tried doing a hard reset but couldnt get it to work, like the buttons werent working, so I reflashed with a stock rom.
Now the volume buttons , phone button and back button dont work anymore.
Even tried to put phone into bootloader mode but no joy there either.
Anyone one think this is hardware, or is it software.
Thanks for any help.
Hi,
I have a similar problem describe here. My problem seems to be a software issue cause my volume buttons work perfect on software but they don't work during startup.

Faulty volume button

Couple of days ago I noticed that my DHD's volume down button does'nt work anymore. First I didn't pay attention, thought that after restart it will be solved, but it didn't. The volume down function doesn't work in any software (up works just fine). Before I decide to go to warranty, what do you think, is it a software or hardware problem? There is no accidents or any damages happened, I know and physically the button seems to work. Please help!
Normally buttons are hardware, in your case its easy to tell.
remove the battery. Put it back in. Hold down the volume down then turn on the phone, if it starts normally your button is dead, if you get into bootloader mode it could be software and you should try reflash or wipe in settings

Im the same, except now my volume up doesnt work either

Thank you so much Blackhorse!
Although the first try didn't succeed (perhaps I didn't hold both volume down and power button long enough), the second try started the bootloader and I was able to use both volume buttons. After another boot the stock rom started normally and now my volume down function is back! Hopefully it stays so...
Hey guys,
My volume keys have died. Part of the wire strip that is connect to the buttons is torn.
Any ideas if there is a replacement upperboard yet?
having the same issue... going to try blackhorse's solution and see if it works

unfortunately it didn't work. I guess the volue down button is dead, even though I had absolutely no accidents with it.
does anybody have an idea of how to solve this, since I live in Brazil, but bought DHD in Germany?
any help would be very appreciated
best regards
André
same problem here, my buttons stop working. What I usually do then is lift the volume keys up slightly and slide some paper underneath to clean some dust and then usually it works again (for a while)

HTC HD2 broken

Hi,
After a night in a tent my HTC HD2 started to malfunction. When turning on the device I noticed it said ''safe mode'' (Android NAND (sensation rom)). At first I didn't think much of it, because I thought the device had turned of due to a dead battery. However after leaving it for a while to recharge I noticed that after each reboot it would return to safe mode. Then I noticed that the device kept showing that it was in vibration mode --> the volume down button is stuck(not physically though). Also the device kept popping up ''recent activities''... I'm under the impression that this is due to a malfunctioning call button, not a 100% sure though.
After I reflashed it to wm 6.5 the problem still prevails. However I was able to get a more detailed view of the issue:
The windows button lacks every response, the call button does not respond on touch but seems to randomely activate the call function. The home button functions poorly. However the back button, power on button and volume up button function correctly.
The volume down button seems dependent on the other buttons. When pushing one of the buttons below the screen the volume down button is activated and is stuck untill the screen is turned on and off. However the volume up button does not yield such a result. The volume down button still is responsive to touch though, as long as it is not stuck.
Any ideas how to solve this problem, or how to work around it? As a precaution I put the HD2 in a box with a moisture absorber.
Hi. I wish I could give you a better understand that what I can offer but what I think happened is you probably rolled onto your phone while sleeping.
This is not to say your problem could have came from something else but let me explain a little about safe mode.
Safe mode anyone can enter by pressing volume down and holding it while it boots up. It allows the developer a safe mode they can enter similiar to
why your computer has it installed on it. Normally pulling the battery and letting the phone reboot clears this out though. With that being said i think what
has happened is the volume button has stopped working as it should. There are several sites you can go to here on the web to send your phone out
to have it looked at and fixed. All in all it shouldn't be that costly and if your mechanically inclined and (careful) it shouldn't be to hard to do it yourself. I
would make sure you take very good notes/pictures in dismantling your phone because if you put it back together wrong you can make the problem worse.
Ebay, listing found here has the volume button and the tools necessary to open your phone and repair the volume key for around $7 usd.
Please make sure your phone model is supported and you have the know how to do this without making things a bigger issue. I would also
suggest to wait for more info because I could be wrong as well.
Thanks for your time, effort and information.
However I don't think it is a problem caused due to physical damage to the volume button. In addition the phone was in a 'sidepocket' of the tent, making it virtually impossible to roll onto it. Because the call button is malfunctioning as well I can imagine it being motherboard related, addmittedly I am not much of an electrician .
The issue has been partly resolved. Only one problem still exists. When I push the windows button it results in a volume up response. I performed a hard reset but the problem still persists, any ideas what could cause this?
Cheers
The hd2 high level of integration can not fall. Even without the screen broke, other things will break, so the sets of sets of silicone can not throw. Screen indeed not easy to break unless it fell out just in time to have something to knock to the screen.

power off / reboots

Hi guys.
Recently my tab kept rebooting all the time. Seemingly, my reboots were different to everyone else's. I would get the " do you want to shutdown power off" selection appear on screen and then a reboot right after. Followed the usual advice, cold starts, factory reset. But still had it. Last resort was to take the back off and look at the power button, maybe the issue was related. The power button had never felt right. Anyways, i taped everything with electrical tape and put it back together.
So far no more reboots! Fault with the power button it seems. I hear the tf700 has a click in button, which leads me to think maybe others have had this issue.
Driving me mad, so if anyone else has the same reboots i did then maybe this thread could be useful.

Power and Volume buttons stopped working - Any possible fix?

As title states, restarted phone after updating and the power/volume buttons stopped working. I already requested an RMA but am curious as to anyone who has had a similar issue know of a way to solve/fix it. Only way I was able to get the phone out of the black screen was to do the O gesture to open the camera (Happy I had that enabled). I can currently use the phone but I am worried to let it die.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I am more worried that if I were to get a replacement that this will just happen again and would then be stuck with it. Am I wrong to be worried?
I have just experienced this issue. Volume and power buttons don't work. What is going on?!?!? What did you end up doing sylv?
Same thing happened to me yesterday. It's a software issue, a simple reboot will fix it.
But how can you reboot without a button, you ask?
Go to settings -> Utilities-> Scheduled power on/off and set it to shutdown by itself. After it shuts down you'll be able to press the power button to turn it on.
