EFS Backup? - Zuk Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Zuk Z1 has a EFS partition that needs to be backup to prevent IMEIs loss, like OPO and others?
If it contains these partition: how to backup it (assuming my phone has been rooted)?
Thanks

It exists in some other devices, like the OPO

My Nexus 5 has one

has anyone tried?

I did the download and made the backup in preperation for TWRP install. Hopefully I will not need to test it.

I created a tool a while back for Galaxy S II owners to backup and restore the '/efs' partition and perform basic NV Repair on their devices.
This proved so popular that I recently updated the application which now includes a feature to automatically detect the mount point of the '/efs' partition. This allows any supported device to be used with EFS Pro and also adds support for future devices.

Got a question for ya : lyriquidperfection
If you check out this picture its of the root of my EFS folder on my International SG3.
Now before i used your program i flashed a custom rom and made the backup with that as i didnt know about your program when i rooted to use it first before flashing custom.
Now in the root of my efs folder can you tell me what files i can delete in there as there are a lot of files that where probably put there by custom rom.
i just want to know what a stock efs folder looks like so i know what files to keep and what to delete.
cheers.

Hi mate, I own a GS2 and I know the efs folder layout is quite different on the GS3. You could try asking the guys in the GS3 forums to shed some light but I would say as long as you have a working efs folder and its been backed up then you will be fine.

Hey.. Got a question on this.. If we have an unlocked G3..do we need to do this?
In that what service would it provide?
Understanding it backs up an important partition incase of corruption.. But if you are not locked into a carrier then is it necessary to keep a backup of this information..?
I think I have the answer.. thanks to Mskip..
Q. Why do I need to back up my IMEI/EFS and how do I do it?
There well protected section of your device that is virtually immune to any kind of flashing and manipulation (unless of course you know how to access it). This part of the device contains information such as IMEI (or MEID and ESN in the case of CDMA devices), programming parameters for the device such as your account information (phone number, etc), data provisioning parameters, and a whole bunch of other things that, when not handled properly, can render a device completely useless. All of these are contained in the infamous \EFS folder. If anything messes with your EFS folder, unlike flashing a device (which could potentially lead to bricks as well) it could render your device completely useless as it will no longer be recognized by your carrier. If you are not planning on flashing anything to your device and want to stay on pure Stock then you may never have any problems but it is still advisable to backup this information just in case (better to be safe than sorry). If you have a GT-I9300 GSM Model then you can do this from the Toolkit but if you have an LTE device then it isn't soo easy to do. If you have an LTE device you should go to *THIS* thread by lyriquidperfection and follow the information to save your IMEI/NV Data so that you are covered if anything should happen.

[WIP] [LB] [TEMP ROOT] Z5/Z5C Backup of TA Partition / DRM Keys

Hello to everybody!
::::: A FEW WORDS BEFORE YOU ASK 100 TIMES THE SAME ;-P :::::
It has been told widely in these forums that permanent root on LB is impossible due to Verified Boot process implemented by Sony (and now by other vendors. Future for LB devices seems to be "Live root" approach). What we would like to achieve is temporary root privileges using some exploit in order to backup the TA partion, for warranty purposes and for complete stock DRM restore.
THIS ARTICLE IS A WONDERFUL ENTRY POINT IF YOU WANT MORE INFORMATION[/B]
Guys, i am very proud that we could win user zxz0O0 for trying out abilities to use the CVE-2015-1805 security vulnerability to get temporary privileges for i. e. backup of TA Partition of our Xperia Z5/Z5C/Z5P.....
For those who want to know a little bit more of what about we are discussing/ testing here:

In the other thread they Talk about CVE-2016-0819 and CVE-2016-0805 which affects specially snapdragon soc's......
The articles which i found are talking about CVE-2015-1805......
I dont think that we are talking about the same. CVE-2015-1805 affects possibly every Kernel Version 3.4, 3.10 and 3.14.....
If Sony already has fixed the 2015-1805 even while Google itself "forgot", could you tell me where i can find Information about a fix By Sony?

Simple: I just tried to patch the kernel, and found it has already included the fix.
The patch exists since mid-2015, it's just that devices were recently exploitet using this regression, and Google reacted.
Thx then for your reply......

I downloaded the source Code of the 32.0.a.4.11 build and compared the pipe.c File with the fix commit and the fixed version in the 32.1.a.1.163 build.
The result was that the older Version is Not fixed.
I also thought one hour ago of asking zxz000 Team.....
If we can win them it would be great!!!
I asked few minutes ago in two z3 threads for help.....
I hope so much that someone will be able to make something finally.....
How about dm-verity? How can you pass this?
You can probably get "root" using this exploit but it will only be temporarily and you can't write /system because of dm-verity. So the only usecase I see is to backup TA partition.

Unfortunally i dont have the knowledge to make something by myself.....
In my opinion ta Backup is more than nothing for the Moment.....
Maybe if all of you professionals like Tobias.waldvogel and monx and you of the z3 community are working and thinking together about it then it will happen one Day?
You see i spend all my free time on searching for abilities and holes to use......
But due to my very basically knowledge of programming i am not able to implement something on my own.
Edit: my idea was to achieve root By this hole, then get a prerooted and DM verity disabled kernel before Reboot..... Isnt that possible?

You cant flash any other Kernel beside Sony Original Kernel on Locked Bootloader and with dm-verity enabled its nothing you can do to root LB Z5. The only possible way is to unlock your Bootloader but with locked Bootloader you have no Chance as you cant flash any modified Kernel. We only archieved Root on Z3 because it has dm-verity disabled in Original Sony Kernel.

you cant restore your ta backup on unlocked bootloader. So you are in the start point. Unless you get something to disable dm-verity you can not get root on lock bootloader
You can "restore" drm keys on unlocked bootloader now. I dont get it why do you want to backup them so much? You can have all drm features working on UB.

Based upon my analysis it's device dependent and the majority of those devices are locked bootloader before the nougat update or before the november 1 security patches.
So devices with November security patch are not compatible, right?

You cannot exchange drm keys. They are unique for each device. If you try to use other keys or backups you will almost for sure brick your device.

One thing guys, after you get your ta backup file, just be sure the file is 2 megabytes, else repeat the process again until the file has the correct size.
I had to perform it twice, cause first time i run it gave me a 0 bytes file.

Mine is single sim so i wont share it with you, but it is 100% certain you will brick it. It is well known for years that flashing a different TA backup will do this. And i do not mean a soft brick...you may as well just put the phone in the bin now if you are really considering flashing a ta backup from a different device

MM 6.0.1
TA backup tool needs to run into android 6.0.1 (dirty cow is fixed in 7.0)
You can always downgrade, do the thing and apply nougat again.
I think is a really good thing to have the choice to restablish the phone to its original state at anytime, though it would be a pain in the ass to be downgrading and reconfiguring all again, im too lazy.... Thts why I waited for TA backup before nougat update.

TWRP & Android 7.1 - restoring backups not possible

Hi there,
I'm experiencing problems with Android 7.1 and TWRP...more precisely I can't boot any backup of android 7.1.
It seems to restore but it always gets stuck in a bootloop at the Lenovo logo.
There isn't a problem with Android L - backups work and boot.
Can anyone confirm this behaviour??? (or maybe has got some further information or hints about it)
thanks
The same problem. I thought it is my local trouble.
It was the same for me. I had to reset tab to original state and, so that rooting didn't worked properly for me, and neither did nandroid restoring, I didn't even unlock bootloader this time....

how can you run twrp with locked bootloader???
so here's what you can do instead...
it's still possibe to restore 'data' - so one needs to go back to android 6 (via full rom or older backup).
update to android 7.1
restore data.
I'm not using it anymore, since it was not working. So, by now I've decided to use this tab "as it is". Winch is not bad at all, BTW.
But not a device to experiment with, definitely.

Accidentally delete the IMEI from my device.
After installing a ROM that maybe was not compatible I did not recognize the signal, I go to * # 06 # it does not have any IMEI, it only has two "0"
What can I do here?
In the box of the device comes an IMEI, so I have an IMEI of the two, can you do something with that?
And I do not recognize the cell phone, it does not recognize either in twrp or in launcher
Edit: The EFS folder does not exist
