Still Get OTAs with Modified Software?? - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I returned to stock , and also re-locked my bootloader.
Except my software version says modified. My bootloader is locked.
Can i still receive OTA updates in this state? Anyone have experience with this?
My Phone is the XT1563 canadian model.

if u reflash stock rom with stock recovery with an unmodified system.....you will get ota and u can install it.....also locking and unlocking bootloader doesnot effect OTA......and u can not change 'modified' status even after locking your bootloader...

[Q] Where to go from here?

Hi,
I have a brand new Sony Ericsson UK Xperia Play on Android 2.3.3, Build: 3.0.1.A.0.145. (Latest T-Mobile OTA Update).
I want to:
Root my phone and Try out Cyanogeon Mod
Am I correct in thinking that to root my phone I need to unlock my bootloader or do i need to downgrade somehow?
Thanks,
XperiaPlayer
If your device is sim locked, you cannot unlock the bootloader, without an unlock bootloader, you must downgrade in order to root, check out the stickies in the android development forum

Right,
So to get it rooted it would be better to downgrade?
Regarding the sim-unlock thing, when I put the IMEI into sony's website it gave me an unlock code? (However Im going to try an orange sim in it)
Also to downgrade is it simple (As in through SEUS) or would one be better off unlocking the bootloader and flashing a rooted kernel?
Thanks,
XperiaPlayer

To root you do not need an unlocked bootloader, but for you to install CM7 you do need an unlocked bootloader.
If you unlock your bootloader you will not get updates from SE (SEUS, OTA or Pc Companion if you try to use any of them after unlocking your bootloader it will brick your phone) you will have to come to this fourm for the updates. Plus it will void your phones warranty but you can now relock the bootloader thanks to blagus so i suppose that doesn't matter really.
You can try unlocking your bootloader (worth a try if you cannot get another sim? it will either fail or succeed), follow the guide here. Or follow the steps on the SE website. If it works you do not need to downgrade since you can install any of the rooted .img's or custom kernels e.t.c which are on 2.3.3 and are rooted.
If you cannot unlock your bootloader you can still root but you will have to downgrade to 2.3.2 using flashtools.
You can only root (with a locked bootloader) on on 2.3.2 since gingerbreak does not work on 2.3.3 (its been patched). So if you want root on 2.3.3 you will have to flash 2.3.2 then root then do the ota update. Follow the guide here to root with a locked bootloader.
Using flashtools to downgrade is the exact same as using SEUS really (both need the phone off and to be connected in flash mode).

Unlock and relock still possible with A2017U B27?

Hi there folks,
Did anyone on stock b27 non-root, locked bootloader try if the unlock procedure provided by @DrakenFX still works? Also if relock is still working? I mean did the bootloader unlock procedure already got changed as announced from ZTE?
For now I want to stay stock, but don't want to loose possibility to unlock after the update to B27...
Thx!
Or is it at least possible to downgrade to B20 from B27 using tenfar's tool and then unlock bootloader?
Just for the record: it is still possible to unlock on fully stock B27 using this threads method:

OnePlus 2 OTA updates with unlocked bootloader question.

Hello fellas. I intend to sell my OP2 as i have purchased another device. I had been rooted with custom roms for the past year. Today i flashed the latest stock rom (OOS 3.5.8) and flashed back to stock recovery. I made sure everything works but i do not know if i should lock the bootloader again. My question is: Will the OTA updates work normally with the bootloader unlocked? Or should i lock it again to make sure?
Yes you'll get OTAs with unlocked bootloader
Good to hear, wouldn't want to sell a phone that wont recieve working OTAs lol. Thanks for your reply.

Back to stock

Hi i hope one of you more technical people can help me out. I would like to return my moto x force back to stock after running Lineage os on it because I need to sell it. I have flashed the stock MM once before in fast boot and managed to achieve this but I was unable to relock the bootloader. How can I flash the stock rom and also lock the bootloader so that the person who buys the phone gets the chance of the next OTA update for Nougat when it eventually arrives. Thanks in advance for reading.
Unlocked bootloader suppose be not a problem for OTA.
but how do i relock the bootloader properly in order to get any future update?

update firmware but not bootloader?

I have a G930V running G930VVRU4BRC2. Is it possible to update to the latest firmware, G930VVRUACSF2, via Odin without updating the bootloader too? If not, do i have to stick with the latest in the v4 bootloader, G930VVRS4CRI1? Is there a reason I should not update my bootloader too? Like the ability to downgrade?
Thanks.
Trust me you don't want to update and to awnser your question I'm not sure but I am sure that the firmware itself has the bootloader number so by flashing from RS4 witch is bootloader 4 to RUA witch is bootloader 10 it would be impossible to downgrade just upgrade to a bootloader 7 and lower you should be fine
