Had been hoping the Pure Edition would cover all of AT&T's bands too. Oh well.
If this is true I will return my Moto X. This is bs that the pure edition doesn't support all AT&T bands. Why can't the pure edition not support all gsm bands. Omg I am so angry.

Looks like it does
I wonder how much difference it'll actually make when it comes to connectivity and speed?
I ordered the the pure edition based on reports that the model would play fine with att LTE. I will not return it f it does not get all of the Bands though. I am curious as to why Motorola didn't put all of the same radio bands into the pure edition.
I don't think att uses those other bands yet. Maybe they plan to in the future or something
AT&T only uses bands 2, 4, and 17 in the US currently anyway so the pure edition will be fine.
So i'm from south america and my carrier uses lte cat 3. Which one should i get? The at&t or verizon should work. The thing is, how to get those models without contract..

Thus, it explains the reason for just those bands!
Durp.
There's a lot of half-truths out there about the Pure Edition working on AT&T. It's true that it supports AT&T's major LTE bands, but it doesn't support them all. If you're OK with having access to most of AT&T's LTE network, then it's probably not an issue.
This is from a discussion that I started on G+ Moto X forum:
"Almost all the LTE in Vermont is band 5, and I frequently travel there for business and pleasure. The HSPA+ network is unusable in places like Burlington.
For the second year in a row, however, the unlocked Moto X doesn't allow its users from accessing all of AT&T's LTE network. I think this is a fact that a lot of news outlets and members of this community leave out because it doesn't affect them. The blanket statement by +Motorola Mobility and members of this community that "it is confirmed to work on AT&T" and the like is misleading and only true if the standard of "working" is that it can at least connect to some sort of network, just not necessarily the current generation network."
It seems like the Pure Edition is mainly geared toward T-Mobile. It is missing band 12, but not every where has that. Tmo operates on band 4. T-Mobile is "pure" so it makes sense lol jk

LOL. I think it is just plain stupid from Motorola to have two GSM models for the US market. Do they really used different hardware to cover the different bands or are they just disabled? First would be completely stupid.
I'd much rather that the Pure Edition have all the bands of the AT&T flavor, but as stated by @sabbotage, it would appear AT&T only uses 2, 4 and 17 in the US anyway:

But T-mobile is bringing Band 12 online, and that is not supported. It does really look like there is an F-up here someplace. Hopefully only in the information released.

Yes exactly and AT&T is using band 5 at the east coast (VT).

I wonder if that info is even all correct. That's always what I went by, but it shows band 5 being strictly US Cellular and a few posts back the one person said Vermont is almost all AT&T band 5. So if that is correct then AT&T must be starting to just roll out band 5.

AT&T uses 17 as the main LTE band in the US, 4 in major cities where overhead is high and 2 is just starting now for overhead refarming the PCS spectrum. Nowhere do they use 5 at all. The phone will work fine with AT&T.
It's the same mess from the 2013 MotoX
XT 1053 = XT 1095
XT 1058 = XT 1097
I can't believe they still release a UNBRANDED PURE version with less LTE band support than the AT&T one.
XT 1097 will be used in canada also, europe, parts of asia and is the one selling in brazil since the beggining of september.
So if you want a true LTE global phone, you are stuck with ATT.
Copied from link below:
Bring your own device to AT&T
You can bring your own phone or tablet to AT&T with no annual service contract, if your device is unlocked - not programmed to work exclusively on another wireless network, and will work on one of these GSM network frequencies:
•3G UMTS network in the 850 / 1900MHz bands
•4G LTE network AWS / 700 / 850 / 1900MHz bands
Check your device manufacturer's website to see which frequency bands your device supports, and for information about unlocking your device.

Band 5 is 850?
will the att version work on european lte?
I'm hoping the Moto X style Pure will have an unlockable bootloader. If it is sold "carrier free" then it shouldn't need carrier approval to unlock the bootloader, right? Anybody have any info?
If it's unlockable, it might replace my Nexus 6 - even without Wireless Charging
I hope so. That's the only reason I didn't get a moto x 2014. I loved the 2013 dev edition. I'm using a nexus 6 atm but would definitely get the new moto x just for the sdcard support.

the pure edition for 2014 has an unlockable bootloader, actually most versions of the moto x 2014 got unlockable bootloaders (i think)
The Verizon and at&t models were not unlockable(officially, not sure if they've been unlocked by vulnerabilities) and the pure edition was not supported on Verizon.

The reason the Moto X 2014 Pure Edition was not supported by Verizon is because it was strictly a GSM phone. The new Moto X is a global phone with virtually all bands unlocked meaning you will be able to use it on AT&T, T-Mobile AND Verizon. Verizon uses LTE bands 4 and 13 and the X supports all these wireless technologies. LTE cat. 6 (up to 300 Mbps)WCDMA, CDMA, EV-DO, TD-SCDMA, GSM/EDGE. So in short this phone will be capable of running on pretty much any carrier you wish to use. We must note that this is for the Pure Edition only and not the Style, the Style version is strictly GSM just like the Pure Edition of 2014.
Bands
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
CDMA (800, 850, 1900 MHz)
4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 38, 41)
(Info taken from Motorola's official site.)
for tmobile it will be unlocked
This is basically a nexus with some useful Moto apps. I would say it is even better than a nexus due to those added apps which are useful.

Moto x Style or pure edition - US sold. GSM/CMDA
Moto x Play - International Sold. GSM
Moto G - GSM

Not sure what you are correcting from my quote. The moto G is a completely diferent phone with its own thread .
Exactly you didn't read.

Android M Betas are already working with T-Mobile's WiFi calling. And the same will be the case for the Moto X Style/Pure. It will have WiFi calling via Android M. Already been done and nothing special Moto needs to do, other than offer the Android M update once available.

Right but the issue is why was it just a GSM phone? They had a Verizon Moto X 2013 Dev Ed and the Moto X 2015 works on all 4 carriers. Why didn't the Moto X 2014 Pure Edition either have CDMA radios like the Moto X 2015 or come in a Verizon Pure Edition version like the Moto X 2013 Dev Ed? I think Verizon didn't want a phone with an unlockable bootloader on their network.
Now that Motorola is giving the carriers the finger, we can have a Moto X 2015 that works on Verizon and has an unlockable bootloader again.

I live in Europe. And I am thinking of buying the Pure edition in US because it is cheaper. Will I be able to use it here? I suppose so, but no one is mentioning it, everybody is just saying that it will be unlocked for all of the US carriers.
It's possible that it was indeed Verizon's influence but also maybe because CDMA support was not that important to Motorola. CDMA is a small fraction of their business in my opinion. GSM is the king of wireless around the world. I'm just glad to see Moto moving away from that and bringing such great devices truly global. (Its all my opinion)

I think prior to the Moto X 2013 the bulk of Motorola Android phones were on Verizon and Sprint. I suspect that in the US the CDMA carriers are very important to Motorola. Don't forget about the Verizon Droid line too.
I had previously flashed the original radio for the 6p to have band 12 on T-Mobile. It worked great. My phone would switch from band 4 to band 2 and band 12 when necessary. Now that I'm on 6.0.1 and the new radio also uses band 12 my phone stays on band 12 only 90 % of the time. My question is for T-Mobile subscribers. Have you noticed this or is it just me? Being on band 12 primarily slows my lte speeds significantly. Another question I have is can I flash back to the older radio that permits band 12 usage while on 6.0.1? That radio was much better for myself. Both radios do show that they are using carrier aggregation when 12 and 4 are available. But I rarely see singularly band 4 or band 2 alone. I use the Lte discovery app to check what band I'm on. Almost Always band 12 and the Lte speeds prove it being only 5×5 deployment. Thanks to anyone who responds with true knowledge of checking this on their phone

You can flash back to a previous build to get your old radio back, just grab a copy of the factory build and use the radio image from that.

It's just you. I find that I only connect to band 12 when band 4 gets around -120dBm or worse, then switches back to band 4 when it gets stronger again.
Is it possible to enable LTE band 40 for MXPE? There are threads on band 12 support for AT&T, could this be replicated for band 40 as well? I am away from the US now, and the carrier offers LTE only on band 40 (Moto X Style has band 40 support, not MXPE )
Does anyone know how to do this? Please share!
Thanks!

Have you confirmed that band 40 doesn't work? Motorola's specs aren't always complete. Also where are you that you need band 40. I think that a Russian, Asia and Australian band.
Hi d2kplus,
Thank you for your quick reply. Yes I have confirmed that band 40 does not work. LTE does not work on my phone, it does on other phones that have band 40 enabled. FYI, I am in India.
I don't believe so - LTE bands are actually HW specific, and the Style and Pure differ slightly on the supported bands, and 40 happens to be one of them that the Style has, but not the Pure.
The difference with Band 12 on the Pure is that it was always physically present, but it was originally deactivated in the original firmware by Moto at the request of TMobile due to some certification issues. The M update just officially enabled what was already there.
Was band 12 disabled on the ALE-L04 model? Im using it on MetroPCS and on lte discovery it only shows band 4, I know in my area there is coverage for 12. I had a moto e 2015 and it worked on 12 until the 5.1 update, just wondering if Huawei disabled it because of Tmobiles certification requirements. Also does anyone know how to get into the engineering(service) menu? Thanks in advance.
