I did just that, with a slickwraps natural leather. I need to take some pics when i get home. It looks good minus being able to see unevenness from the bolt holes and other things.

i wanna do it so bad and get a real black back cover and do the same to the front...
all black just seems right.

I would do this just to get a new glass cover so I don't have to keep looking at that ugly Verizon logo.
Brought to you by my new(ish) Note 5!

S-Pen Squeak when drawing...

OK, I just wanted to know if this was just me...
When drawing, especially when doing a long quick stroke with the pen, i will sometime get a bit of a .... squeak. Like the pen is scratching or rubbing against the screen. It doesnt happen very often, just on occasion..
I dont seem to be causing any scratches though... no damage seems to be done.
So I can only assume its the material of the SPen?
I never had this happen with my old note10.1, using the white tips that came with the pen. This pen seems to only come with th eblack tips though, with no alternative choices.
Unfortunately I had to sell my old note10.1, so I dont have the pen available to test on this screen.
Anyone else having this issue? OR maybe I should buy an alternate pen?
Any advice would be good thanks!

Mine is white but it comes with 2 kinds of tips...look closer at the extras...should be plastic ones and rubber ones...mine came with a rubber tip on and 3 extra rubber and 2 plastic tips.

What I meant was I have a white note...not black...so nothing is black...pen and tips are all white...to match the device itself. But if you have black tips, im assuming your note and pen are black. What I was trying to say was that amongst those black tips, there might be two types that arent as visibly different as the white tips are,...so I was advising you to look more closely or try to feel for a difference

Oh i see... I did try swapping tips at one point, but only because I assumed they were all the same!
On the original note, it came with 4 white rubbery tips and 4 black plastic tips... I didnt think tha there might be a difference in these tips cos they were all the same colour... I will take a closer look

Oh I didnt realise the original note had such obviously different tips....
yeah, the white note has rubber ones that are very opaquely white and plastic ones that are slightly translucent but still white.

The Grey note comes with 6 completely indistinguishable dark-grey tips lol
But, if you push on the ends with a fingernail, you can tell that 3 of them are slightly rubbery, and 3 are solid plastic.
Though I preferred the rubbery ones on the original note, I am going to try a plastic one now. ITs a lot smoother on the screen, and you can definatly notice the lack of resistance, but it seems to be pretty good. And no squeaks haha.
I had heard rumours on the old note that the plastic tips could scratch the screen, but I'm pretty sure they were false...
This is my current set-up for drawing and painting on my note...
I use rubber tips (i'm using the aftermarket SPen with the eraser on the other end, not the SPen that came with the tablet) with a matte screen protector over my screen. The screen protector isn't for preventing scratches (although it helps) but to create the proper amount of friction i feel comfortable with. I do like the plastic tips better but from my experience they tend to get sharp edges from normal wear and tear.

I can't see how plastic could scratch the screen :/ however I do remember reading where people got something stuck on the tip of their s-pen and whilst using it they ended up scratching the screen. Main reason why I had to place a clear screen protector on mine just incase it happens and tbh the Anker screen protector is as though there's nothing there so it helps.
Sorry for bumping this old thread but I dont want to create a new one.
My Note 2014 came in without extra tips. And the one I have is plastic and got no traction. I'm wondering where I can buy a rubber tip and replacement tool.
Tnx.
Screen protector
It might not be the tip at all. It could be the screen protector or lack of one.
The note 2014 extra tips are buried in the box it Came in. If you Kept the box, go and look. They are in a tiny zip lock bag.

Tried it without protector, with a glossy and now a matte one and it got really minimal traction. A friend of mine got an spen with rubber tip and it feels better writing and drawing. At least for me.

Lol! I got to check the box thoroughly. I just took the tablet and charger and forgot about the box. I'll check it again. Thanks!

We mixed it up a little! Black phone/white battery cover and vice versa!

My fiance and I originally tried to order the black Note 4s, but we could only order white at the time.
My white one was available last Thursday and all went smoothly but Best Buy made a mess of her
order so we ended up with a black N4 from Verizon for her. We then came up with the idea to swap
covers and we like the results. Now we're looking for clear cases that will accommodate the mic
holes on the Verizon N4 while still allowing us to appreciate our simple, yet beautiful & most likely not original
(though original to us) works of art.
PS I've never had a female share my taste in phones so this is the first time I've actually able to do
this. It's been a very bonding experience. LOLS! And she did not make me type this part.
I like it!
I'm doing the same but with a white spigen case on Black GN4.
I'm personally considering buying a gold frame to replace the black one once they are available on eBay.
Would be black with gold trim, very nice in my opinion.
Thanks! And you have good taste!

It's actually super easy to replace! If you watch a Note 4 disassembly video, you'll see that the aluminum frame can be replaced simply by unscrewing the back and undoing the clips. If you'd like to do the same, all you have to do is get a small screw driver and a guitar pick (or plastic knife, or whatever will undo the side plastic clip).
Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OReK7M_6zg0
This guy takes the whole thing apart, but you'll just need to watch up to 4:30 to see what I'm talking about.
This is also useful information for anyone who scratches their camera lens or dings up the frame and wants to replace it for resale or something.

Haven't done it yet- I can only find the part through authorized samsung part resellers at the moment and they are trying to charge $100 for it. I am waiting for the chinese manufacturers to sell straight from the factory ($10-15) on eBay. But it will be a direct replacement, super easy to do.

Guys just a quick update for anyone interested in a gold frame. It looks like this one is compatible with the Verizon Note 4...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261701823333
I determined this by downloading the image with entire inside of the frame visible (flat, not the side angle view), and scaling it on screen to the size of my note 4. I then lined it up and it looks like it fits the Verizon mic holes. I believe its because they are the same as the international [N910F] holes. For $60, it's still a bit too much for me, but for some people that really want a black/gold or white/gold look and are willing to pay a little bit for it, it's definitely a great option! Also, it will keep you from scratching the frame that came with the phone for better resale value later.
I haven't seen one that's compatible with the T-Mobile/AT&T version's holes yet. Will keep you all updated.
I did the exact same thing today. I don't use cases and wanted a different look on my Note. Actually wanted just the black back with "Samsung" on it but I found none on Amazon that would let me use my Prime and I have need for instant gratification. So, I went with the black Verizon back on my Frost White Verizon Note. LOVE IT!
Thanks for posting this! I was really curious to see how it would like and it turns out it actually looks quite nice!

Leather vs Silicone back

I'm trying to decide between a black leather back and a black silicone back. How are people finding them this year? Which one feels nicer? and which one is more durable?

So I got the silicon back after all of the ravings and I'm not really feeling it. I like the feel of the silicon but the raised grooves just aren't for me.
For those who went with the leather, is it soft at all? I haven't really heard too much depth about how it feels from those who got it. Can you even tell that it is leather? Does it seem slippery to sweaty hands? Thanks for any input.
I am more concerned about the leather dissipating heat. I would think the wood and then leather dissipate heat better than silicone.
2014 was leather. Loved it, but after reading all the good things about the new silicon backs i decided to go that route. Plus, the leather was a bit slippery, so i figured with the bigger phone the silicon back would help with the grip. Can't wait to finally get it.
I ordered the leather, I'm excited to try something different. Plus I already have a white oak and walnut back on my Mi4.

Yeah I heard the leather wasn't soft too and felt more like hard plastic, so I went with a silicone back. Can anyone confirm this?

If you want to keep it slippery, try some diluted lye. It may cause some discoloration, but will render the oils into a really slick substance.
It might work on your phone, too.

Oh, I must be the party of one...I love the silicon back. The texture is different and pleasant. Maybe that's just compared to crappy silicon cases I usually have on my phones or the faux-leather backing of my Note Edge.
It also seems like it'll be durable. Naturally, it won't scratch like the back of most metal/glass phones, which often quickly renders a phone unattractive and unsellable.

I just got my phone yesterday with the leather back. It is not hard like plastic, but has a slight amount of squishyness. Not much though. It is more slippery than I thought it would be, but overall I like it. As far as head dissipation, I'm not sure that the back material will make much of a difference, and my phone so far is staying cool unless I am charging the battery.
While waiting, I was second guessing my decision to get the soft grip over the leather, but I really like it. I would order the same again.

Ah yeah, seen some bright orange leather G4 photos in the past.. I honestly just thought it was over-saturation and lighting while they were taking the photo. I had no idea it was a legitimate colour, well done getting rid of it! Brown leather is heaps better than that abomination

It's some acrylic type sealant over natural leather not sure why they did that either. I had to use 100% acetone to strip it.
90% of the appeal of the leather backing is the feel and look of having natural leather on a phone.. Putting some horrible crap on it negates that entirely.
Are T-Mobile terrible or is it just their design decisions?
Not sure, id guess LG made that choice.
Slightly off topic, but has anybody tried painting the back cover with leather paint? Mine is pretty worn out, so I'm thinking about bringing it back to life.

Alternative back cover for A40?

I'm completely NOT a fan of glass/glastic/shiny backs on my phones, so I was wondering if anybody has seen a replacement matte/semi-rubber back cover for the Samsung A40? I've seen millions of original looking shiny ones on Aliexpress and ebay but nothing that looks a bit more like the back of a Kindle. Any ideas? (that don't involve sandpaper!)
A bit late maybe but you could apply a skin to it's back.

Actually the back has turned out to be fine. Not as nice as a matte or more rubbery plastic, but certainly not slippy like glass or ceramic. No need for a cover, always use a dedicated pocket kids!
