[n900]stock rom 5.0-cwm needed[help] - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am pretty new to android and I need help, Thanks.
I have unrooted note 3 exynos[N900] running on stock rom 5.0 lollipop but I want to flash a custom rom for which I need a CWM recovery but all the CWM recoveries for my device are available for Kitkat[4.4] and I am not sure will flashing the same recovery on my stock 5.0 is gonna work or not (and I don't wanna brick my device ). It will be of great help if someone helps me out finding a suitable CWM recovery. Thanks again

The recovery that needs to be installed on a phone needs to support the ROM that needs to be flashed.
That being said, an incompatible recovery will result in an error when flashing an incompatible ROM. Most note3 users are using TWRP to flash a custom ROM and make nandroid backups.
I recommend looking at the TWRP website (https://twrp.me/Devices/) and flash the latest release for the phone.

Sir, all the TWRP recoveries are originally for kk .. will flashing the same on stock 5.0 work ??

The recovery is flashed according to the device, not the installed rom. The latest twrp should be fine with 5.0.

Thanks (Y)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454079 can you please say if it's okay to flash this cwm recovery... I am a bit doubtful since the recovery filename has "kk" as a substring (kitkat) in it.

I believe 6.0.4.7 is the last version of cwm released for the device. If you want to get the latest for your device, check out https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager

Updating TWRP and various Root questions

I've flashed via odin the TWRP recovery before I installed the v30 omega rom. 2 days ago I flashed the v31 and now the phone reboots randomly.I've tried to use logcat but i can't find the cause. In safe mode though the phone doesn't reboot So here is the deal:
I'll reflash the v31 since some features were NOT flashed like call button on contacts but i want to update the TWRP to its latest version....how?Through the TWRP manager app?Or flash it through odin?Flashing an updated version on an existing one recovery using odin won't be a problem right? Also, what jfltexx is the codename of my version right?(9505)
Also,a nandroid backup is basically an "image" of the phone right?Like a disk clone operation of acronis in windows....correct?
thanks for your time

So i assume that your question is does flashing TWRP got problem or not?
So you flash the latest version wont be any problem because i did it already
And nandroid backup is a total ROM for your current condition which mean is your OMEGA v31 so when anything goes wrong you
can go back to the start where you made the backup
Hope this will answer your question.

You can flash .tar file through odin or use goo manager
Or you can flash 2.7.0.1 as a zip file through your recovery from here ?

[Q] What's next

I'm going to flash the new ROM over my 4.4.2 S4 LTE. After flashing this new ROM, what are the necessary steps I should do to get my phone rooted?
Which are the compatible flashing/rooting programs to use for this new ROM?

Yes. That's the ROM I'm talking about. I've just flashed Philipz recovery using Odin and everything looking fine. However, I still get the default recovery and not the PhilipZ version.
Is the 5.0.1 not ready for the present recover like Chainfire or Philipz?

I had problems flashing recovery on stock kitkat. Used a workaround with Nandroid manager from play. But you need root for that..
Maybe try a different recovery. I don't see why PhilZ would be the only one to work with the 5.0 rooting method presented somewhere around the forum.
A recovery has nothing to do with the version of the rom you have flashed.
Uncheck auto-reboot before flashing the rom with Odin.

Will give this a try.
Update - No go with what you have described. Stuck at the end of Odin flashing. Have to pull out the battery. Luckily, phone still can boot but with the default recovery.

How do I backup the stock recovery for Note 3 SM 9005?

If I install custom recovery (via odin) my stock recovery will be gone right. So, how do I backup my current stock recovery.img so that I can recover it later? I was looking for the answer on many threads and most xda members suggest to use the 'fastboot' method (which temporarily injected the custom recovery and return the stock recovery immediately). But this fastboot method does not work with Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-9005. Is there any other alternative how to backup the stock recovery?
EDIT: the alternative method that I can think of is to use Flashify app. It can backup the stock recovery image but, in other to use this app, I must be root. and in other to root i must install custom recovery.. and.... yeah I lost the stock recovery.. this is the problem.

Hmmm.. here is my situation. I have the official ROM KitKat. It contains the kitkat stock recovery.img. I updated my phone to Lollipop and I believe it has updated my recovery.img to lollipop version (I found it has more options than the KitKat version). I cannot find the official ROM of my phone. My question is,
where can I find the official lollipop ROM? I just received it via OTA. Does reflashing the ROM will backup my recovery.img? I mean I want to obtain this recovery.img file.

Are you able to reflash twrp using Odin and then flash supersu from twrp?

Can i use a twrp recovery for my s4 i9505? And it doesn't matter on which rom i am?
Find the version of twrp here that can be flashed via Odin: https://twrp.me/Devices/
Doesn't matter which rom you are using unless it is cm13 which is pre-rooted.

when the s4 is on it will be detected with no problem, but in download mode it wont be detected. i hate this rom so much
Did you download a stock GPE rom or one from the forum here?
As the stock GPE roms are the same as Samsung stock roms. Meaning that you lose root and custom recovery.
Anyway, have you tried installing SuperSU from the play store.
You can flash a recovery using flashify. But I guess this needs root. You also need the recovery.img to work.
cwm is the best for 505 try it it will be efficated

[noob] bootloader and CM13

I'd like to test out CM13 on my rooted i337m, currently running CM 12 with bootloader I337MVLUFNE1. Before I start I'd like to get an idea of the steps involved; any help you can offer is appreciated!
My understanding is that to use CM 13 I will need to do the following:
1. Install the UCUAMDB or UCUAMDL bootloader from the i337
2. Flash the version of recovery that corresponds to the cm13 version I wish to use
3. Backup, wipe, flash CM13 ROM and GApps
I have no idea how to do steps 1 and 2. I've never messed with the bootloader and I'm not even sure if it's safe to use the i337 one on i337m. I also can't seem to get twrp manager to flash a .img file.
CM13 thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...rom-cyanogenmod13-releases-nightlies-t3459578
Do you have an i337 or i337m? You can confirm the model number in download mode.
If it is the i337m, just flash twrp, cm13, and gaps.
Yes I've got the i337m, running I337MVLUFNE1 bootloader. So you're saying that I don't need to change bootloaders - all I need to do is flash the cm13 recovery that goes with my cm13 rom. That makes things easier!
I already have TWRP 3.0.2-0 installed. I am trying to use TWRP manager to flash the cm13 recovery from the 2016/8/20 snapshot ( cm-13.0-20160820-SNAPSHOT-ZNH5YAO0J3-jflteatt-recovery.img), but it doesn't show up in the directory. I think this might be because it's a .img file instead of a .zip. Should I just zip it up?
If you have twrp installed as a custom recovery, just copy the rom, which should be in a .zip format, to the phone's internal memory or as card, boot into twrp, perform a full wipe, and flash the rom and your choice of gapps if the rom doesn't include google apps.

The problem with that is I get "error 7" from TWRP when flashing the rom as described above. The instructions linked in my original post say that the workaround for this is to first flash the specific recovery snapshot that corresponds to the rom snapshot. I put that recovery on my SD card but TWRP manager couldn't see it (its a .img file), so I zipped it and then tried to flash, but this failed.
So it seems the next step for me is to figure out how to flash that recovery snapshot before I go on worrying about the rom.
I appreciate your help and patience!
The status 7 error is usually caused by one of two items: the TWRP version is outdated or the ROM is not for the phone you are trying to flash.
Since you have an i337m, use Odin and flash TWRP for the gt-i9505, then flash CM.

Before I try to flash it with Odin, is it okay to instead use TWRP manager to install the latest jflteatt version of TWRP (since it's a jflteatt version of CM I want)? I bricked a device with Odin once so if you think this would work instead that's what I'll do!
Which version of TWRP did you install? Was it for the jfltecan? If it was, it may probably error out when flashing the att version of CM.
Yes I have JFLTECAN TWRP at the moment. On my old phone it was drilled into me to only use stuff for my version of that phone, which I guess isn't the case with the S4. So it's safe to put the jflteatt twrp on my phone?
Did you try to flash the jflteatt version to your phone using the can version of TWRP? If it won't flash, try the 9505 version of TWRP on the i337m.
I understand what you mean about bricking but the recoveries are very similar as are the phones themselves.
I got it to work. There were 2 issues: 1 was that I needed the jfltexx recovery like you suggested, and 2 was that TWRP manager wasn't properly installing new recoveries so I was actually always testing with the jfltecan recovery. Switching to Rashr allowed me to install the jfltexx recovery, which allowed me to get the fltexx cm13.
Thanks again for your help!
To install TWRP, I thought you flashed the tar version of TWRP using Odin 3.07 in the PDA box. That is the simplest way I know to flash it.
