Why do video apps like vChannel not work on the NP? - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

They work fine on my iOS and Android devices like a Nexus 7 2013 tablet. Was also the case with TVapp.so when it was working. So few of the Android TV apps seem to work on the NP but I (and others) can't figure out why. Wondering if the Chinese box APIKs will work since they are selling subs now rather than selling boxes. I'm on several forums now and no one can answer those questions. Might pick up another NP though as they go on sale at Staples Canada for $70 + tax...

Will amazon sell this ?

Do you think amazon will sell the nexus 7since there kind of going after the kindle fire.I'm thinking they probably won't sell it which is too bad since I have a $40 gift card to amazon.
That would be really ironic, seeing how everyone is calling the Nexus a Kindle Fire killer. They ARE selling accessories, I do know that... but I am really curious as well. Anyone got an answer?
I know they sell the Nook devices which are currently the main competitors of the Kindle devices, so I'm guessing that they probably will.

3rd party sellers sell the Nook products on the Amazon site, not Amazon themselves. I assume it'll be the same with the Nexus 7 since only 3rd party sellers sell the Galaxy Nexus (GSM version anyway. Amazon Wireless will sell you the Verizon and Sprint versions).
Considering Gamestop is selling the Nexus 7 it's possible. but i seriously doubt it.
Amazon has never sold an iPad, although it sold every iPod model imaginable. People wondered for a long time why Amazon did't sell the iPad. Then they released the Kindle Fire.
Amazon isn't like the Apple store. Tons of manufacturers list practically every sort of tablet and phone there.
So, I don't see why not.
I'm hoping that Amazon or a 3rd party will sell the tablet... But I'm not sure if I should pre order it or wait until it becomes available on Amazon.
I wish the tablet came in different colors :/
Yea amazon has never sold an iPad but they have pretty much every other tablet on there. Would be awesome if they end up selling it. I'm still debating whether or not to get one as I have a fire right now

Every unopened nexus 7 brings the store credit, don't worry about that.

I'm running Paranoid Android which is CM10. A bunch of my buddies are too and its running great for all of us. We actually like PA more than regular CM10.
My 8GB Nexus 7 I bought from Google, and the 16GB I gt from Staples, which is a retail store. Low taxes and no expensive shipping.

I works fine, but you'll need a powered hub to get enough juice to use it. It'll spin up, partially, but it'll most likely need more power. A usb stick or anything like that works fine without a powered hub though. (Hell, usb mouse, keyboard, and even a wired xbox controller will work without a powered hub. Hd's take a bit more to keep them spinning.)
he guys i just bought a new nexus 7 but i have a quick question, i have logged in with my google account and my google wallet is already setup and everything but i dntknow how to see my balance to see if the £15 has become available also i cant find balance anywhere not even google searching seems to help lol
i dnt wanna buy and pay for apps cause i really want this credit to do tht first,
when i go to buy something like a app it shows up with my credit card and no other option...does this seem right?
shame i also cant find a support section to speak to someone from google about this...
It should show up when you try to purchase an app. I'd just go ahead and call up google support: 0800 328 6081.

Kindle Fire Refurbs for $70

I'm thinking about picking one of these up tomorrow if the sale works out. Note that this sale was supposed to be last week, but they postponed it until tomorrow due to some technical difficulty.

I would be new to the Kindle Fire, but not Android. I have a Nexus 7, Evo LTE, and have owned and sold several other phones and tablets. This one interests me because it's a cheap option for the kids, and I would also like to take advantage of the free monthly kindle lending library book with my Prime account. The most important thing is to get the Play store on there so I can take advantage of my purchases. It looks like I can root the fire, install the play store, and a market opener app, unroot, and still keep the existing OS. I believe the original OS is required to use the extra Prime features (and also a couple of kids apps I've found exclusive to the kindle). I may eventually go with a CM10.1 based ROM in the future, but I would like to at least try the stock OS for the Prime features first.
One hesitation I have is the lack of storage for kids movies. I've seen the nook tablet refurbs for $80 over the holidays, which I know has 1GB ram and SD card slot, but the kf seems to have better software support both from the stock software to the custom development.
So, what do you guys think? Is this the best option for a sub-$100 tablet for kids?
If you install a custom rom (CM10.1) will the amazon market still recognize the tablet as a kindle fire, and can you still install the kindle fire edition apps?
UPDATED: Sale was changed to $70 from $75. Supposed to start tomorrow at 8AM PST.
Kindle Fire Refurbs for $75
It would be a very good choice to get a kindle fire. And if you wanted to go cheaper you could always buy a demo version on eBay for $50. Then root it and put stock ROM on it. That's what I did for my brother

Thanks. I didn't realize about the demo units. They seem to end at about $55 on ebay, and many don't come with chargers. With the sale now at $70, I think I'll take the 90 day warranty and the ability to take back to best buy.

You won't be able to download Kindle Edition apps on the playstore if you put 10.1 on there. Personally, I would jump on this tablet for 70, after putting 10.1 on there it runs pretty smooth, does all I want it to, all around good media device. Not even jealous of my friend's nexus 7 .
This deal is live now for anyone interested. You need to enter the promo code "cnetkindle" when checking out.
I bought a brand new one for $100 bucks about 2 weeks ago on ebay , I havent gone custom rom yet , I have rooted (fff & twrp) , still contemplating losing the amazon stuff , I dont really read much so losing it isnt a big thing , I really like the size , I also have an Acer a500 and that is 10 inch , but the Kindle is actually the "just right size" (after my Galaxy Note) !
$70 is a great price for one of these, even if local storage isn't great. Thanks for the tip on the sale!
Its a sturdy device that my 3 yr old son loves. But we don't travel with it so we don't need local storage. Streaming via Netflix over WiFi is working fine for us.
I didn't care for the stock launcher or OS and so fixed that. But maybe you could just install a different launcher after getting the play store installed. Then you wouldn't lose your amazon perks.
Sold out.....
That's just how good our 1st gen KFs are!!!!

Buy Nexus player uk

Hi. I have been. Looking at purchasing one if these but can only find it for sale on the play store. Does anybody know where else in the UK this can be purchased from? I can see it's heavily discounted in USA bit apparently not here? Thanks
Got mine from Argos. It was reduced to £59. PC world have had it for this price too. You could always try EBay.
Hi. Was this recently? Neither have this available in their websites.
Got it about 3 months ago. Sorry if it's not available anymore. I've heard the fire stick or fire box are pretty good. Nexus player is good but not great.

Amazon UK suddenly stopped selling Shield TV 16GB?

I was shopping for a Shield TV on Amazon UK for a few days and suddenly today there's a message:
"Currently unavailable. - We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."
Could there be a new model coming down the pipe?

More probable that it's not been a good seller and they're stopping selling it?
I would think that if a new model was this close then there would have been announcements or at least rumours.
It came back on Amazon UK again... but it doesn't have the extra free controller (two total) like Nvidia.com is selling for the same price.
In any event, I just ordered a Wetek Core for $112 which I reckon will do the trick for me. It's powerful enough for Kodi and comes with a decent remote. It will replace my Roku 3 (I've been a Roku user from day one).
Nvidia should give people a choice between games controller, remote or nada - they'd sell far more Shield TV boxes.
I've never played games in my life so the thought of being stuck with a games controller and paying more for a remote just turned me off.
Plus, the Shield TV has been out for about a year now - I'd expect a new model within a few months.

The two game pads are a promotion that finishes on the 1st of May. Stores like Ebuyer and Scan are honouring it in the UK...I bought my Shield TV just over a month ago when the remote was bundled free on promotion. Honestly the remote isn't all that and is overpriced in my opinion....even if people don't want the extra pad being bundled, it shouldn't be hard to sell on to recoup cash on the initial purchase.
I'm sure you did your homework before buying. I've read many reviews and most don't really do the device justice....many mention the remote as being needed but neglect to mention the CEC compatibility (use the actual television remote) or the free apps available for smartphones to control Android TV or Kodi. Yes the "gaming chops" of the Shield TV are often mentioned but I'm still confident I bought the better hardware...it's actually Android TV that lets the device down. Many people are using Kodi and 3rd party addons to use ITV Player, which is crazy as they should have android apps available for the device.
With the update to Marshmallow it's actually more cost effective to buy the 16GB model and add your own storage (MicroSD or USB HDD) . These promotions surprise me as I figured Nvidia would need to bundle extra "goodies" for the Pro version to entice people to purchase that model.
I wouldn't be so sure about a new device so soon. I felt the same about the Shield tablet, after a year on the shelves I knew the Shield TV was on the horizon and (wrongly) assumed they would do a new tablet with Maxwell. Instead they released the Shield K1, still using Kepler and removing some features to lower the price point.
