Do you think amazon will sell the nexus 7since there kind of going after the kindle fire.I'm thinking they probably won't sell it which is too bad since I have a $40 gift card to amazon.
That would be really ironic, seeing how everyone is calling the Nexus a Kindle Fire killer. They ARE selling accessories, I do know that... but I am really curious as well. Anyone got an answer?
I know they sell the Nook devices which are currently the main competitors of the Kindle devices, so I'm guessing that they probably will.

3rd party sellers sell the Nook products on the Amazon site, not Amazon themselves. I assume it'll be the same with the Nexus 7 since only 3rd party sellers sell the Galaxy Nexus (GSM version anyway. Amazon Wireless will sell you the Verizon and Sprint versions).
Considering Gamestop is selling the Nexus 7 it's possible. but i seriously doubt it.
Amazon has never sold an iPad, although it sold every iPod model imaginable. People wondered for a long time why Amazon did't sell the iPad. Then they released the Kindle Fire.
Amazon isn't like the Apple store. Tons of manufacturers list practically every sort of tablet and phone there.
So, I don't see why not.
I'm hoping that Amazon or a 3rd party will sell the tablet... But I'm not sure if I should pre order it or wait until it becomes available on Amazon.
I wish the tablet came in different colors :/
Yea amazon has never sold an iPad but they have pretty much every other tablet on there. Would be awesome if they end up selling it. I'm still debating whether or not to get one as I have a fire right now

We need a poll of how many people purchase the Nexus on Amazon using the Fire...

I am a bit skeptical to this. While we all love to pay as little as possible for our tablets, the reality is that at 130, either the device will not have the specs we want or there profit margins will be too low (and thus they won't sell it). As much as i hate to say it, i like that asus is making more expensive tablets. It means there tablets will have higher quality material so we can do more awesome things and the tablets will last longer.
Screw the price. I, like the nexus part lol. That means easily unlocked boot loader and unmolested Android starting point.
Edit that's also 130 UK. Closer to the kindle fire price I'm American.

based on the price point they are trying to hit, I'm going to guess that the new Nexus tablet will be a 7 or 8" device. Asus isn't stupid enough to release yet another 10.1" device at a lower price than the just announced TF300.
I mean, maybe they will, but it doesn't make any real sense to do so. To have TF101, TF201, TF300, TF700 and Nexus tablet all in a 10.1" form factor, all with prices in different ranges when the specs are too similar... it just doesn't seem likely.
To hit the $200 price point and compete with the likes of Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet, I'm betting on a smaller device.
Article said a 7" tablet. Prolly wifi only would be my guess. Which makes 200 just about right

They're doing this to compete with Amazon, of course. The Kindle Fire sales might add Android devices to the market, but those devices will direct people toward Amazon marketing, not Google marketing. So.. Google probably wants Asus to make a cheap tablet that directs people back to Google markets and ads.
I love my transformer but I sure hope Asus isn't chosen make this tablet. They haven't successfully released a tablet since the first transformer. Don't get me wrong I think they make good products, but a lot would be riding on a Nexus branded tab. Android tablets lost momentum with Honeycomb and the Xoom launch. If Asus launches another tab the way they did the Prime with the Nexus name on it, Android tabs might never gain significant market share. I'm not sure who could do it but I don't think Asus is ready.
i got a second kindle fire that i don't use. how much would i sell this for since it is used?
I see them posted locally on Craigslist for about 170. Not sure how much they actually sell for.

hmmm I would EBay it for 160 buy it now plus whatever shipping is... Offer to have it come pre installed with ICS or CM7...
In my area on Craigslist they are usually $150-170. However, as someone who sold a lot of crap on Craigslist you generally don't get what you list it for, so I would venture to guess the selling price ends up being between $125-150.
The Amazon Kindle Fire was my first tablet and a great one as well. Thanks to awesome developers such as JackpotClavin, HashCode, Lithium, and everyone else the Kindle Fire is a great choice for budget and size conscience individuals.
Anyway, I just purchased a 4G LTE Motorola Xoom 32 GB on Ebay for $200 and sold my Kindle Fire for $150. I recently realized that the Xoom was a Google Experience Device and is going to be updated to Jelly Bean by Google!
Once again thanks everyone for making the Kindle Fire such a great device!
that thing is, heavy lol. I had one, a looooong time ago. briefly. enjoy it

That's a surprise, considering they sell new for $199 in the USA. I got them from an Australian importer for $261 including case and adaptor.
Even with the next generation kindle tablets on the horizon people are buying up kindle fires on eBay. I suggest if any of you want to upgrade to sell now before the kindle fire 2 comes out and drops the resale value of the original.
I'm thinking about picking one of these up tomorrow if the sale works out. Note that this sale was supposed to be last week, but they postponed it until tomorrow due to some technical difficulty.

I would be new to the Kindle Fire, but not Android. I have a Nexus 7, Evo LTE, and have owned and sold several other phones and tablets. This one interests me because it's a cheap option for the kids, and I would also like to take advantage of the free monthly kindle lending library book with my Prime account. The most important thing is to get the Play store on there so I can take advantage of my purchases. It looks like I can root the fire, install the play store, and a market opener app, unroot, and still keep the existing OS. I believe the original OS is required to use the extra Prime features (and also a couple of kids apps I've found exclusive to the kindle). I may eventually go with a CM10.1 based ROM in the future, but I would like to at least try the stock OS for the Prime features first.
One hesitation I have is the lack of storage for kids movies. I've seen the nook tablet refurbs for $80 over the holidays, which I know has 1GB ram and SD card slot, but the kf seems to have better software support both from the stock software to the custom development.
So, what do you guys think? Is this the best option for a sub-$100 tablet for kids?
If you install a custom rom (CM10.1) will the amazon market still recognize the tablet as a kindle fire, and can you still install the kindle fire edition apps?
UPDATED: Sale was changed to $70 from $75. Supposed to start tomorrow at 8AM PST.
Kindle Fire Refurbs for $75
It would be a very good choice to get a kindle fire. And if you wanted to go cheaper you could always buy a demo version on eBay for $50. Then root it and put stock ROM on it. That's what I did for my brother

Thanks. I didn't realize about the demo units. They seem to end at about $55 on ebay, and many don't come with chargers. With the sale now at $70, I think I'll take the 90 day warranty and the ability to take back to best buy.

You won't be able to download Kindle Edition apps on the playstore if you put 10.1 on there. Personally, I would jump on this tablet for 70, after putting 10.1 on there it runs pretty smooth, does all I want it to, all around good media device. Not even jealous of my friend's nexus 7 .
This deal is live now for anyone interested. You need to enter the promo code "cnetkindle" when checking out.
I bought a brand new one for $100 bucks about 2 weeks ago on ebay , I havent gone custom rom yet , I have rooted (fff & twrp) , still contemplating losing the amazon stuff , I dont really read much so losing it isnt a big thing , I really like the size , I also have an Acer a500 and that is 10 inch , but the Kindle is actually the "just right size" (after my Galaxy Note) !
$70 is a great price for one of these, even if local storage isn't great. Thanks for the tip on the sale!
Its a sturdy device that my 3 yr old son loves. But we don't travel with it so we don't need local storage. Streaming via Netflix over WiFi is working fine for us.
I didn't care for the stock launcher or OS and so fixed that. But maybe you could just install a different launcher after getting the play store installed. Then you wouldn't lose your amazon perks.
Sold out.....
That's just how good our 1st gen KFs are!!!!

Sadly, I can't afford a brand new tablet, especially this one.
HOWEVER, I was given a $500 Staples gift card for my birthday and buying this tablet seems like the perfect use for it!
Sadly, for some unknown reason, Staples doesn't have this tablet in stock. Not on the website, not in the stores.
No one at Staples can give me an ETA. No one at Samsung can give me an ETA.
Anyone else have this type of experience before (by which I mean waiting on new technology from Staples, not incredible impatience like mine) or know how long it takes Staples to carry brand new awesome tablets?
I may have a solution. You should try selling your gift card to someone on Craigslist for 450 or something.
