I supose you are using Rogers SIM. Buy other SIMcard and try it coz all seems ok.

This has been going on for at least a year the signal comes in sometimes but very weak in my house. I have another cheap phone I get excellent signal all through the house. The signal on my note 3 can have 3 bars but as soon as I try to make a call it disappears and says it's not connected to a network. This is so frustrating because I search for the network and it finds it but won't connect to it.
I've recently unlocked my phone about two weeks ago and switched service providers from Rogers to eastlink. I was hoping it was a problem with the rogers sim but nothing seems to help. The Sim I'm using works great in the cheap phone but can't use my note 3

Try to flash this firmware: HERE via ODIN. This is the correct firmware now for Canada (EastLink). I hope it helps.

could be an internal antenna wire unplugged or badly plugged too, did you dismounted it or bought second hand one ? It happened to me the same way as yours, just guessing

Canadian Nexus S Owners OTA

As a fellow Canadian nexus s owner I have been manually updating my nexus s via the downloadable zip files here and there.
But I'm curious has anyone ever received a over the air update instead of manually downloading a zip file from forums like xda?

Just the initial OTA after getting the phone, manually upgraded to 2.3.2.
I mean all the ones release so far

Not to go off topic but....
How are you guys liking the phone so far? I'm assuming you're on Wind or Mobilicity. Are the data speeds good?
Im on Wind and the service is terrible at times.

i've got no complains
and the only signal issue i have, might be a software bug
as other people are having it in other countries as well, so i doubt it's Wind's fault

For rthe past 3 weeks I've been using mobi and wind, wind has been a massive fail, calls go to VM with full signal, texts come repeated sometimes 3 of the same text, and data is an absolute joke for anything but browsing, hockey buzzer sounds before outgoing calls, half duplex call audio. And its been getting worse not better. They appear either in denial of the problems or unable to correct them. Mobilicity has been saving grace for me, flawless service everywhere I need it, even have service in my underground parking. No comparison at all Mobilicity > Wind.
I should add, I'm in Toronto

working great with Mobilicity here in Ottawa as well!

I have received all my updates OTA as well pretty much as soon as they're released so far!
As for the service - I'm with WIND and have the usual probs..I live in the basement and get exremely poor reception even thou I'm in a WIND home zone with a tower right around the corner!! I also get that buzzer sound on outgoing calls - Was thinking of trying Mobi, but now not so sure if WIND gets LTE
If Wind is even allowed to operate after the their licence is now in jeopardy.

Using 3 year old simcard.

hi, I've been using the same simcard for 3 years that I got with a samsung gravity. I was wondering if the one that came with the g2 is any different from mine.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Oh and I forgot the mention that the simcard that came inside the g2 box has the gold contacts different from the one I'm using.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yes they are different... I was using my old one too when I first got my G2 but I started noticing my friends g2 was faster over the internet... and so I called customer service... turnes out the old sim cards are not 4G speed ready... I would switch to new one... hope this helps ya
Sent from my HTC Desire Z/G2 using XDA App
As said above. The sim cards are different. Call T-Mo and have them activate your G2 sim. You should notice a data speed difference right away.
What? Seriously?
I've had the same sim card for 8 years, when I had my Nokia black/white cell.

they may be, but the newer one doesnt unlock speeds.....
According to T-Mobile they do. They recommend anyone using a 4G device have the new sim cards in.
T-mobile rep here.
Activate the new similar card.
The new similar cards do not necessarily increase the available speeds, BUT the old similar cards can cause issues in newer phones causing slower data speeds.

Or simply cause your phone not to work at all... I was at work one day and all of a sudden lost all signal. I unrooted, rerooted, wiped, everything. Turned out I had to get the newer SIM card.
sorry for the gravedig, but does it cost to have the simcard activated that came with the phone ?
I'm using an old sim card, no problems here.
I don't have a data plan though so I can't comment on the speeds.

I just did this yesterday- I called customer service and walked through a few tests. It worked within minutes, although the CSR said it could take up to 2 hours. You might have to update your phone and VM numbers.
My phone radio just died one day. Wifi and BT worked fine. I could see networks, but I couldn't register on them. The same problem occurred in another phone with the same sim card. The CSR said that the older sim cards couldn't handle as many connections to the 4G network? Not sure if that's the scientific reason, but replacing the sim card fixed the problem. Luckily, I kept the one that came with the phone so I didn't have to go to the store to get another one, but I've done that in the past and I don't remember being charged for it.
Im using a SIM card from 7 years ago. Works perfect.
There is something I want to stress and is going in my sig now:
THE HTC DESIRE Z/G2/VISION IS NOT A "4G" PHONE

Phone signal in basement

Hey, I'm currently working with a HTC HD2 with a Froyo Android on it and having difficulties in the basement.
I've recently moved into a new rental house (am a University student) and was given a room in the basement (not much choice there since I signed up late for housing). Anyways I've noticed I get 1-2 bars in the basement which is fine (so I thought) but I'm not receiving any text or phone calls! Whenever I walk outside with my phone there's multiple texts waiting for me and whenever I meet my parents they question why I never pick up the phone (I dont even have missed calls showing).
Now with my closest friends I have whatsapp/fb chat/google talk which is fine but for employers who I give my resume to, or friends I occasionally meet up with they have no way to contact me :S so was wondering if there's any way to boost my signal in the basement?
I've read about a few signal boosters and repeaters but they are costing hundreds of dollars which is out of my price range but really do need to fix something or my social life is going down the drain next semester :S
Thanks in advance
forgot to mention, it wont even send texts as well at two bars... so sad T__T

Go outside. Solves both your social life problem and signal problem.
Maybe AT&T will have better signal and you can just switch to like Straight Talk.

Hey just downloaded a signal booster app last nite (Fresh Network) and it doesn't fix the problem completely... but if i hold the phone exactly above my mini-fridge and send texts they usually go through after 3-4 attempts which is nice but sad to see there's no better solutions

Signal booster apps are a scam. I hope you didn't pay for it.
You should connect it to a strong wifi network and use wifi calling.

Hey, no didn't pay for it but I personally disagree. It feels like it does help (although the difference isn't very much)
And yea was debating on going pure WiFi but seems like a lot of hassle to have two different numbers, or is there a way to keep same number?? Sorry not very sure how WiFi networks work, if you could recommend a good one that'd be great

Most T-Mobile smartphones have built in wifi calling. No porting or different numbers. You just connect to a wifi network and enable it in the settings.

The HTC HD2 is a Windows phone, right? I believe only T-Mobile Blackberry and Android phones support UMA.

Poor Wifi on N4?

Quick question to the pro's
Whilst I haven't put a SIM card in my lovely new N4 yet (awaiting mico SIM from Vodafone) I thought I would set it up over WiFi.
I can connect to my router, home network and home server fine, but it is just sooooo slow and continually timesout. I have changed the settings, frequencies etc, restored router to factory settings and back to saved profile, but nothing seems to help.
Play store spits me out, and I have reset the N4 to factory 3 times now.
I will try on other Wifi networks over the weekend, and on mobile data when SIM card arrives, but was just wondering if I am doing something obvious wrong or it other have have similar experiences?
thanks
edit.......I did manage to do a system update, and now on 4.2.1
In my experience it is really fast. I get 30mbps down, as fast as I get on my desktop.

My N4 connects nicely to the router as follows from the settings
Status - Connected
Signal Strength - Excellent
Link Speed - 72Mbps
Thinking (hoping) it the talktalk router, as since I updated the firmware I have had other problems...........need to test elsewhere I think first!
Thanks
wifi issue is for sure
Look at other posts you will find many people are having wifi issues. I don't think you did anything wrong, it is just the problem of nexus 4.
Let's wish google would fix it soon.

Thanks, did find a limited number of similar issues listed when I did a basic google search, but hoping it was something else.
SGS2 in one hand works lovely, N4 in the other not!
As I didn't manage to test test it before the update to 4.2.1 I don't know if this release is the issue!

Something definitely wrong. My coworker and I are on the same WiFi and his signal is 100 times faster. I get 1000+ ms ping and .04 down and he gets 80ms ping and 3 down.

Seems like the WiFi problem is either hit or miss most people including myself have a perfectly stable WiFi while some people have terrible or not working WiFi at all. Not sure what's behind this buy hope you can get it fixed.

Thanks all.......
This issue was starting to annoy my experience with the N4 tbh
I just changed my router back to my old one to test, and its now working perfectly!!!! Others have reported issues with D-Link routers, of which the one I was using was a Talktalk supplied D-Link.
Lightening quick now........

Force 4g in s10+

Am kinda in an area where 4g is super fast and 3g is suppppper slow
Anyone knows how to force 4g in s10+?
You might be able to do that through secret codes but I wouldn't recommend it. There's a reason why your phone drops to 3G. It's probably because your LTE signal is too weak. If you forced your phone to LTE only you might end up with no signal at all. And if you're not in a VoLTE area you won't be able to make phone calls.
BTW there's a Q&A pinned on top for random questions. Easier than starting a new thread ?

Simple. Dial *#*#4636#*#*. Alternatively, just use the network app. It's basically a shortcut to phone info. Mine is set to LTE only. I'm from a place where every tmobile band is available, so connectivity is a nonissue.

For some reason *#*#4636#*#* is not working on my phone which is why I didn't suggest it. My concern with his specific case is that it did drop to 3G which causes concern. Mine never does. Would he not lose all data if LTE were not strong enough in his area?

This code doesn't work using the Samsung dialer. You can download the Google dialer port and then use the code and it'll work. This is one way you can force LTE always on. You will have to set the Google dialer as your default phone app and allow permissions as well as changing system settings.
