LG G2 System apps - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a LG G2 D803 (which was rooted, but not now) that would hibernate when placed flat on the table. In doing a factory reset I found that the phone did not have both the 'phone' and 'contacts' apps installed. Therefore I was unable to make a phone call, yet could receive one. When calls were received there was no record of the call being received or of a means of entering the call as a contact.
Is there someone who can direct me to a site where I can download the missing apps and odex from (not sure what this is)? I would then re-root my phone, re-install Titanium and hopefully be able to install the apps on the phone.
I have tried to complete a new firmware download from LG's support website but the download fails in the last seconds of 'install' even though the download appeared to been successful.
LG were prepared to fix my phone but it would have been cheaper for me to purchase a new phone.
any guidance with this issue would be very much appreciated.

Can you just find the ROM and re-flash it? If you find the complete stock ROM, it should have those system apps...

Thank you for your quick response. I am currently in the process of reading up on and installing KDZ files for flashing my G2 back to stock. Being a neophyte at this and having all the time in the world in which to accomplish the task 'life will be interesting'. I should not have been so adventurous with Titanium!!
I am pretty sure that the problem was self inflicted so am prepared to try and resolve it.
Thanks again.

That is the ups and downs of androids, can make it awesome, but can also break a lot of stuff! Sorry I can't help much with the D803 as I have a D800 or I would recommend the ROM & Kernel I am running.

LG G2 system apps problem resolved.
For those that might have been interested in my loss of apps on my LG G2 - I am pleased to inform you that I was able to find a solution, implement it, and in a matter of half an hour have a fully functioning smartphone once more.
The following links proved to be a great help, especially the second link cited.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
http://www.file-extensions.org/article/install-kdz-fimware-to-lg-smartphone
Following these easy to follow instructions I was able to get my smartphone back to 'factory condition'.
Should others experience problems similar to mine I hope that the attached links will be helpful.

[HOW TO] Steps to Take to Prepare a Rooted Phone for Warranty Exchange

I recently had to give up my rooted preordered Incredible for a refurb due to heat issues and reboot (loop) issues. For those looking for a guide as to what to do if you have to return your phone to Verizon and want to unroot. I welcome any comments to update/add to this information:
1) Make a NANDROID Backup if you want to simply port it over to your new phone
2) Mount your phone as DISK DRIVE
3) Walk the directories and delete any cached thumbnails of web sites you have visited
4) Copy any pictures you want to keep which were saved on the phone
5) Reboot into ClockWork recovery
6) Wipe the Dalvik Cache
7) Wipe the Data/Factory Reset
8) Go back
9) Wipe Data (main menu)
10) Power Down your phone
11) Remove your SD Card
12) Download one of the RUU's which are hosted around the web:
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Incredible/
13) Turn on your phone and plug it in to your USB
14) Run the RUU and let it do it's thing. When its done, so are you
15) If you have a screen protector, remember to remove it.
Any additions are welcome!
Yes it will revert everything back to normal, that's called an RUU btw
Cool
Anyone know if this also removes the more hidden data, such as the cached images of the web sites you have visited? In other words, if I run the RUU, is the phone ready to just be handed over?
if i root and uninstall some apps, will this restore my phone to stock and allow me to get all future HTC updates?

I don't think so, but it's easy enough to do a wipe and then apply the RUU (and hey, for the hell of it, you could wipe again).
Steps?
[deleted ... first post updated]
I'm pretty sure the RUU will completely wipe your phone. However, you can take giantcrazy's advice and wipe before running the RUU.
One more try

Ok, here is what you want to do.
there would be two things you need to un do before sending them back this phone.
make sure it says S-ON.
and then make sure you have stock recovery.
If you have these two things, your gold bod.
Probably to noob to know any better
After going through a lot of threads this one seems appropriate. I am looking for how to go back to stock DI. After Unrevoked3, ota leak and unofficial froyo leak, my DI wont connect to VZW anymore, all out going calls are busy. Talked to my VZW guys, they are cool with me, tried to help nothin'. Today tried Unrevoked forever and official froyo leak, still no VZW connection. I looked into this a lot before I tried these mods I don't know what went wrong, I would not have been able to do this with out such easy tools as are provided today. "I NEED HELP" to get back to stock, "PLEASE". I have looked into SDK and Adb, as I have been lead to believe there is no way to return to 2.1 and the right radio without these tools. At this moment I have not been able to find clear enough explanations on how to use these tools, this is where I maybe over my head. I assume my radio is fried, I don't care if no "S on", I just need those obvious things; version, kernel, baseband, to be stock. Any help will be appreciated, big thanks for any suggestions

Ok, there is so much here I will do my best.
number one, having s-on is just as important as having a radio thats either 2.15x or 1.x, now that the OTA 2.2 update is sending out, you can send the phone back with 2.2 and 2.15x radio.
what you need to make sure of, is two things, you have s-on,
and you have stock recovery.

Thank you, and really they wont know if the ota was pushed to me? I found the S on tool, I didn't know there was one, I had only read on about S off. I don't know how to find/replace stock recovery, I will start searching though. Much appreciation, my better half is not as thrilled about my learning experience as I am.
I already rooted and unrooted once, will I get stock recovery back after unrooting?

Your welcome, I'm happy to see you are learning so quickly. S-on is very helpful for those warranty returns of the phone.
Verizon has no idea whether or not you got the ota, or better yet what version you have or if you are rooted, ect.
If you tell me what your hboot it, radio, software version, s-on or s-off, if rooted or not, and if you have the stock recovery or clockwork and I will try and guide you to where you want to be..
if you need help getting to the stock recovery this must mean you are rooted, and this can be achieved by downgrading the phone by un-rooting, I'd suggest running s-off while you are rooted, then

To find out real fast if you have the stock recovery or clockwork-mod recovery, boot into HBOOT, (power off phone, hold vol down and power til screen turns on) and then vol down to select recovery and push the power button I think to select and then if you get a red triangle that means stock recovery.
Also need to return phone
I just got off with Asurion and they are over nighting a replacement. I had rooted my phone, installed some root only apps like wireless tethering and set cpu, removed some bloat like CityID and Tweet/Peep, and changed the boot animation. No custom ROM or radio update.
Then I wanted to get the OTA update so I applied s-off and flashed back to stock recovery.
So what do I need to do to return this phone. I know I will need to apply s-on. Then should I flash a stock 2.1 or just revert the changes I made to boot animation, restore the bloatware, and remove the root apps? Do I need to remove any other files that go with being root?
Thanks.........MM

Hello,
I wanted to thank you again for the help this last weekend. I apologize for not returning for more of the help you offered me. My wife only has every other weekend off and we have an 18mo. old son, both of whom deserved my time more than my DI. I love my DI but it wasn't giving me much love.
Although VZW isn't always the nicest to my pocket book, I have never been taken care of as well by any other provider(s) employees, thank you. As I mentioned in my first post, my VZW guys are cool with me. Yesterday I went into the store and the manager offered to help me. He managed to reconnect my DI to the network but no 3g's. He believes my problem is just a coincidence because he had another customer with a similar problem over the weekend, with no mod's. Still I need to exchange my DI, it doesn't look like 3g's is going to turn on.
My real issue is still getting custom recovery off and stock recovery back on, then unrooting will be a breeze. The videos you lead me to are one of the sources I have been working with, however to reverse the leaked ota, Downgrade leaked ota video, requires SDK and adb knowledge, this is where I am noob. At this time my VZW manager who is in school for programing is attempting to help me (he has a over clocked Palm Pre Plus, 1Ghz), this is very cool of him, well beyond what is expected. (I am in no way encouraging anyone to rely on their VZW employees for this kind of help, this is a unique situation, I have been building a relationship with my VZW guys for two years+, not all VZW employees have a clue about mod's, and mod's technically void the warranty) I am hoping to learn enough about these tools, SDK and adb, to help myself before the next time, and I will hopefully be gaining some of this knowledge from my friends at my VZW store soon. I will also be looking forward to the help I receive from fine people such as yourself and people in this community in future endeavors.
I will stop basically hijacking this thread now
Thanks to all of the people who support these community's, with out whom many of us would never get our foot in the door. Much appreciation to ACD168 for being there to help me.
Take the time and learn to do it right the first time.

First off, you are very welcome my friend, anything I can do to help do hesitate to ask!, and your not hijacking any thread brother, that's what these threads are for!!!
Thats real cool of the VZW employees!!
adb and sdk isnt that difficult I can help you!!
Read my post about warranty exchange.
I know alot of people are "better safe than sorry" mentality. but I have returned 2 phones that were fully rooted, updated, s-off running custom roms and I had no issues. in fact ive never had an issue using warranty exchange. ive exchanged phones that I broke (like broke.. with pieces coming off). I just call and tell the operator lady my phone doesnt work, i dont know why.. it was just working earlier and now it wont turn on.. they send me a new phone and I send back the broken one and everyone is happy.
They only confirm that the numbers on the phone match your account. Not the reasons you are sending it Back. the warhouse guy that opens your box isnt the same guy you talked to, nor do they have information about your phone call to the tech. They simply open the box, scan the numbers and move on.
dont stress to much about it
Great info here
Thanks to every one of you on this thread. I am finally breaking free from WinMo and getting Dinc after a lot of research. I like Verizon but hate the bloatware they pack onto Androids and all the other phones, so I will be fiddleing with ROMs. If I screw up I am looking here first to see how to get it back to stock so I can get my new one with the insurance coverage.
Everytime I get to serouosly looking around these forums I learn great new stuff. I will donate to the XDA someday soon!
Okay. so im a noob. Just need to ask. What do you guys mean by stock recovery? I just rooted my phone but need to unroot to send it in for work at Verizon. Could you help me out?

Weird error flashing back to stock. D800

Background
Phone: LG G2 D800.
Where problem Arised: Flashing Paranoid Android Rom, missed a step. Forgot to install the boot image (I think)
Current Things not working: TWRP Recovery disappeared ( I really have no clue what the hell happened to it. Just not able to get into it anymore), Phone is in boot loop at PA loading screen. Using LG Flash tool , I keep getting an error telling me that I have the wrong .bin for my phone, but I'm certain the dll and tot I attempted to install are for my phone model. Meanwhile, LG mobile support tool freezes when trying to check my phone settings.
What is working: I can definitely get into download mode. So maybe there's still hope.
Any help guys?
I'm seriously stumped. Gonna maybe try emergency on LGNPST
I think this is the definition of hard brick. send it in, paid the cash to get it fix, get it back, read instruction carefully and flash.
Any good services you know of?

On this topic, do you know a good place I can send it in to be fixed? And what method do they use, if so?
Cause I'm only really going to send it in at this point if it's a jtag flash. They tend to be really quick, and I haven't lost hope with it just yet .

No download mode no recovery mode

So it all started today when I tried to flash Cloudy G3, it didn't work, it soft bricked I restored backup, all good. After this, my phone started acting weird by powering up again after I powered it off, not opening Quick Remote and saying SIM is not ready. So I decided to give Clopudy G3 a try once more but I needed TWRP, I installed the TWRP i needed but I got error status 7 so I used flashify which was recommended to me. Well I flashed TWRP using flashify and, now when I try to get into recovery mode it enters fastboot mode and stays there. I figure the solution to this is going back to stock, and I found that the best method is from a dude called Hyleton in XDA But that falishify thing left me without a download mode! No recovery, no download... is there even a fix for this?. Now my phone is the international version (D802) but this guy has trillions of firmaware for lots of different D802s and I don't know which one to download and use! I downloaded the one in the folder that says "D802 tot" and selected the 32GB one. Can somebode PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP ME, my knowledge on rooting is pretty basic, and a lot of the things in that thread, like for example the word "TOT" I don't understand! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476&highlight=d802
Now can somebody please explain this guide to me? I am wanting to do the second method (the TOT method). I would really appreciate this, REALLY REALLY APPRECIATE IT.
well
I wont be much help, but maybe i can simplify for people who come accross this thread. Ive read it a few times and im quite confused.
You said you flashed cloudyG3, had problems, then went back to stock.
What recovery did you use to backup, restore, and flash cloudy g3?
No i want to flash stock, after trying to flash Cloudy G3 I used flashify to flash TWRP and it went nuts and and now my phone is working strangely. I'm currently trying to go back to stock in the hope that it'll fix my problems and I'm using Hyleton's guide, as I have no download mode I'm gonna use a .kdz file but in his guide there's lots of KDZ files and I don't know which one to use! Any idea on that? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 here's the thread and if you look at the stock firmware files you'll see there's tonnes of .kdz for the D802, could you help me find the correct one for my phone? My phone is simply D802, no other letters like the ones in that list have (which confuses me as to which file I have to use to flash stock) and I bought in the US, but I live in Argentina....

What LS997-compatible ROM contains *all* working LG Stock Apps?

So the whole reason I rooted this damn phone was to be able to install working stock apps. Not just the Music and Gallery apps either--ALL THE LG APPS. Which LS997-compatible 100%-working ROM can I flash and get them all, if any? I keep hearing one exists, but no one bothers sharing that info and when I search I find nothing.
Really? No one?

Im the only person developing a STOCK LS997 rom currently.. It contains the LG base apps and all the removed ones that we didnt get shipped with out model . Includes a ton of extras as well, alternatively we have 3 or 4 aosp roms you can use, but make sure you use twrp and backup your efs before flashing as it tends to jumble your programming up and cause issues. Otherwise you can flash the stock rom the Dev who provided the dirty santa unlock method.

Hey thanks--I was fairly sure this was the ROM in question. Thank you for providing this! I was hesitant to flash because I'm always a little skeptical about the amount of help I'll get should I get stuck. I'm not exactly a noob at this, but I have plenty to learn. It looks like you've done a lot of work to provide a positive experience, so I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. I promise to read and re-read the instructions on the first 3 posts, and to NOT bother you with questions that have already been addressed in the thread. . Thanks!!

if you made it through dirty santa the rest should be cake. 99% of the issues i covered for people were
after going to AOSP and not having a backup of their programing info in their efs and having to find a way to
manually go in and fix each fd up piece.
The other is being on older software and downloading a OTA and rebooting with it in your internal storage.
This one causes a endless boot loop into twrp, so be advised to delete the update if your on older software or be prepared to
hit my post # 3 for fixes and be near a pc as you need to fastboot erase the fota and misc directories to resolve the boot loop. A twrp wipe will not fix it and restores etc wont either lol.
Otherwise theres now a lil over 100 pages of chatting and troubleshooting, fixes and things that have gone on, and mostly its all outdated as ive provided the fixes for 99% of everything in the latest version 7.5
Just be prepared to take 15-20 minutes for the phone to boot up the 1st time. My rom is deodexed, and the 1st boot is doing 298 things before you get to the optimization part. There is not boot animations as the phone will always have the static screen issue on reboots so i went ahead a placed a disabled command there to just save time/batt life. The setup wizard is stripped and only there to give you the notice its done booting and time to get to playing around.
Magisk is kinda finicy being its systemless design. It takes some time to get used to it, and be aware that some older apps that dont support exotic root or systemless root may not request root and not fully work. Titanium backup is one i know is getting attacked by googles app scanning and needs to have that turned off before it will work, most of my apps have a option to set "force root" so it asks for a root request regardless if it understands MagiskSu's root methods.
just some food for thought. Hope everything goes well, and there is a ton of people on the forum here that have great knowlege and can help with troubleshooting issues you may have

just some food for thought. Hope everything goes well, and there is a ton of people on the forum here that have great knowlege and can help with troubleshooting issues you may have

Yeah, I didn't have many problems there, although I did get stuck in the TWRP loop once.
I am on the ZV3 version of the software. I do have the ZV5 update in my cache folder--are you saying it's a good idea to delete the update.zip file?
YES, dont boot into twrp until you remove it, or its back into the twrp loop you go hehe

Simple way?

Hi everyone,
So couple of year ago I worked at a start-up company that had an Android project. So I'm not new to flashing images (ROM, Recovery, radio...), and I know most basic tools like ADB (and I'm technical person in my daily life). That being said - I remember the pain when the Radio image doesn't fit the firmware, and you have to play around with stuff to make reception work again. or the Recovery image won't fit the ROM etc etc. I'm not sure if any of this probably still happen TODAY, but back then when I got my LG-G2 - I decided not to touch it. I don't need anything besides the basic options (making calls, taking pictures).
I'm still using Stock with 4.4.2 - and the phone is getting lagy each passing day to the point it's time to root it and install a custom rom.
As I mentioned above, I want it to be quick and painless. Sadly, I don't have the time to do insane amount of research right now, mainly because I have a 3 weeks old born at home - and I prefer to use my free time hanging with it that Q&N issues with my phone
So here's what I need your help with:
1. A recommendation for a tool to save all phone settings. Mostly - App settings, and OS settings (even though I probably not going to go for Stock again, but it doesn't hurt to back it up).
2. An instruction how to flash D802 (there' so many options this days...). My Kernel version is 3.4.0.
3. Recommended ROM to use. Here's what I need from a ROM.
a. I probably want to upgrade to more safe rooted Android version (I can't for example handle permissions on 4.4.2).
b. With that, I don't want to install the latest Android only to figure it's running slowly on LG G2, I want the interface to be snappy (the Stock was snappy for a while).
c. I prefer Minimal ROM if possible with Google Apps installed. If I'll need something, I can install it myself.
d. One of the reason I didn't root up until now, was because people mentioned camera quality is meh with non stock roms. If possible, I will like to have a decent Camera quality.
e. I use my phone as a music player often. So good sound quality is important to me (and maybe even build in Parametrized EQ?).
Thank you!
Reading around the forum would have taken just about the same amount of time than writing your post. A post, mind you, that will get you the same as what you can already find with ease.
You managed to write with your kid around. Last time I checked, browsing takes less effort.
Rant out.
Instead of a rant, here's an actual help for people who might find it useful in the future and lack the time to do some proper research (as it took more than the 5 minutes it took me to write the original post). Please note that I won't take any responsibility for possible damages you may do to your system. Please use at your own risk. Also, note that I only tried it on LG G2 802 with Stock Kit Kat (4.2.2) and other version/OS version might not work.
I wasn't clear to me if 'One Click Root' work with Kit Kat bootloader, so I used 'ioroot'. When your done rooting your phone, you will need to flash a TWRP recovery. The easiest way to do it is by using AutoRec. However, the TWRP recovery installed with AutoRec doesn't have Thermal protection, and is dangerous to use according to the forums. So the next thing will be flashing a new TWRP version from the recovery. Blastgater have tweaked TWRP Recovery for LG devices. You can download the latest version here. It's basically a zip file you flash from within your old TWRP.
Regarding ROM, after doing some research - it looks like Lineage will be the best 'all-around' rom to use. Liveage 15/16 were too slow for my liking, so I went with 14.1 (Android 7.1) which was enough for me and snappy to use. However, the tricky part if your plan on using Lineage, is to flash a bootstack as the one coming with Stock won't work. It's just another zip to flash directly from the recovery and can be found here.
So this is just the high-level process, and I highly suggest checking the specific on the links I sent. It also helps if you know how to handle 'adb' and know the basic stuff like what bootloader and recovery are
Good luck.
