Can't Boot into Recovery - Lost Root Access - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Below is was my setup:
Latest TWRP Recovery
Alucard Kernel
S4 i9505
CM12.1 nightly
XPOSED v75
Viper4Android
Two days ago I decided to flash the sabermod kernel. At first I couldn't install it using the .zip (script error of some sort)
I then flashed the boot.img file as boot.
The phone was working fine for two days (rebooted twice at least).
On every Friday I download the latest nightly and flash it using the dirty flash method.
This is when I ran into trouble...
The TWRP is stuck on the Team Win screen.
I found a way to boot normally and decided to flash the alucard kernel back using Kernel Adiutor (boot.img).
The phone booted but now I have endless process stop errors (com.google.process.gapps) and I have lost root.
I need help...
Regards,
Jat

Just reflash TWRP. Uncheck auto-reboot in Odin before flashing.

F2FS Support
I have all partitions formatted in F2FS apart from system which is EXT4. Can I flash TWRP via Odin if it is not . tar?

Flashing a firmware will fix the issue, both for recovery and rom

Which Firmware?
Which Firmware to flash? Obviously I can only flash via odin. Also what will happen to the F2FS partitions?

Flashing will return you to ext4
Because f2fs needs a special recovery files etc... and it will be replaced.
Test it out you wont lose nothing

Flash latest samsung touchwiz?
Just to confirm you are asking to flash the latest Sammy rom which I believe is 5.0.1. however Cm12.1 is 5.1.1. If you are confident in me trying this I will download the stock rom and flash it via odin and will let you know how I go. Thanks for your help so far.

[Q] wil der b bootloop after flashing CM7.2.0-GT-I5800_Alpha8_ODIN.zip through odin

I am on stock froyo ROM on my Galaxy 3 Gt-I5801. My question is if I flash CM7.2 alpha 8 using CM7.2.0-GT-I5800_Alpha8_ODIN.zip [135 Mb] file in odin , Will that result into a bootloop ? I mean after flashing ROM what will be senario
will there be a bootloop and I have to flash kernel (if yes, which kernel I have to flash
a) Arakmar's kernel listed under Alpha 8; which a zip file and not tar file
b) any one kernel under alpha8.1a which has tar file)
and after flashing kernel, there wont be any bootloop and ultimately will be result in normal boot
OR
there wont be any bootloop at first place; i.e. after flashin CM 7.2 ROM there wont be any bootloop, and what I have to do is
just update version to 8.1a through CWM and then flash kernel and then Flash .zip to get alpha8.2
really confused..I think ROM [here CM7.2.0-GT-I5800_Alpha8_ODIN.zip (135MB)]
have kernel with it also or not ???
I m sorry if this a stupid question :silly: and I think it is but I am flashing for the first time and Galaxy 3 means a lot for me.
Thanks

^Nope, if you follow the steps correctly, then the chances of you ending up with a bootloop is almost negligible. However, even if you do, then just navigate to recovery and wipe your data/cache and reboot. Your phone should be working fine after that!
And yes, Alpha8 .TAR file already has a kernel present with it, so no need to flash it over again!
Happy Flashing! :good:
on CM 7.2
all went good..no bootloop....just got nervous and confuse.. thanks for reply

[Q] Cyanogenmod OTA update fail N9005

Hi all,
I have a N9005 which I rooted a while ago. When I tried to flash CM11 I didn't seem to have a custom recovery so I flashed CWM with Odin and then flashed CM11 with no problems and it works pretty well, the odd crash but nothing too upsetting.
However the OTA updates download and when the phone tries to update CWM says there is no such zip file so it aborts and reboots.
Would TWRP solve this issue for me and if it would, how would I go about removing CWM and installing TWRP?
Thanks in advance.
Some CM roms have OTA problems so you need to flash normally

Regarding installing TWRP recovery, just flash it via Odin.
Cheers guys, noob question but would there not be a conflict flashing Twrp when I already have cwm installed and where would I find the correct twrp for my model? Thanks
no conflict and you will find a thread fot twrp but you don't need it, I flash CM with Philz
ok, I've tried to flash philz from this source theandroidsoul.com/samsung-galaxy-note-3-lte-sm-n9005-philz-touch-advanced-cwm-recovery-android-4-4-compatible/ and it doesn't seem to have worked. The phone went into a recovery loop which I can get out of by a battery pull but basically now I have no recovery any ideas? thanks again

thanks a lot, that worked but the ota still not working i'll flash it with odin. last question, do I need to flahs the gapps again or just the cm zip file? thanks
Normally no..

trying to root Note 4 5.1.1 on 910W8

Hey guys i followed this youtube guide for rooting 5.1.1 using TWRP Method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpsGX_Xoxcg
i downloaded all the files but the firmware (not listen i have n910W8 = telus)
I have odin, supersu, TWRP (which n910w8 is listed) and samsung drivers.
I moved superSU and the TWRP file to root directory of note 4 5.1.1. rebooted into download mode, saw the blue indicator on odin and loaded the file. Rebooted holding volume up this time and tried to load the kernal but it doesnt exist.
I think im confused the TWRP file is NOT the kernal? Where can I get a kernal for n910W8 (telus)
thanks in advance!!
So I found this
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/56498/N910W8VLU1COI4_N910W8OYA1COI4_TLS/
which is telus 5.1.1 Rom. ill move this to my root directory and load the 910W8 TWRP file in odin and flash? Ill give it a try now wish me luck lol
ok i followed a guide online and now my phone just keeps restarting. I think im in big trouble. Im able to load openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-trltecan.img into odin and boot to TWRP but now i cant load kernels? looked so easy to do now im down a phone? any help is much appreciated thanks!!!
You need to odin (bell, rogers, telus) 5.1.1 then odin TWRP then twrp a custom kernel. Our 5.1.1 needs a custom kernel in order to work rooted. Or.....you can load a custom 5.1.1 rooted rom that is W8 compatible or any Tmobile rom such as Tekxodus which i am running.
ok so i loaded openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-trltecan.img in AP (for my device) copied the custom rom
" cm-12.1-20150423-NIGHTLY-trltetmo" which was suppose to work with my 910w8 (910T) used recovery to flash it and also supersu it flashed OK... I restart and i see a little blue guy and its stuck optimizing apps. Suck in restart loop.
what did i do wrong? try a different kernel ?
thanks in advance
EDIT 1
im trying the " Tekxodus" rom. this file is way larger whats going on with that. Is it the same procedure to flash it?
EDIT 2
Flashed to tekxodus rom optimizing apps... now its stuck System UI has stopped. and I cant do nothing. Any suggestions? ?? ?
EDIT 3
Do I need to flash a certain BootLoader along with the recovery for my device (BL and AP) ? , reboot in recovery and flash the custom rom ie "Tekxodus" ?
found this guide for 910C
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-root-galaxy-note-4-n910c-android-5-1-1-lollipop-1518168 with these steps
"Step-1: Download the flashable root package and transfer it to the storage of the phone
Step-2: Download Android 5.0.1 bootloader package. Extract it using any extracting tool and you should find a folder containing Odin flashable tar package and Odin binaries"
so confused lol
All you have to do is Odin stock 5.1.1 rom (COI4 i believe) then Odin TWRP then flash Tekxodus V3.2. Let everything optimize and let it sit there for a good 10 mins after optimization. Ignore what its doing. It will just work. No need to flash anything else unless you want Xposed, then you flash that right after flashing Tek (do not boot in between)
any idea where to get a custom kernel for 910w8 5.1.1 to root stock rom?
Im running this rom (flashed using odin)
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/56498/N910W8VLU1COI4_N910W8OYA1COI4_TLS/
stock telus rom. I loaded this rom by clicking BL in odin and selecting it (along with my recovery for telus 910w8). This was the only was to get my phone back into working order.
______-
I loaded my recovery for telus into odin and went to download mode.
booted into TWRP
Flashed Tekxodus V3.2.
Optimized apps for about 10 minutes and it just restarted and optimized again and again.
One time it said System UI has stopped and I was hooped.
not sure where I went wrong?
thanks for the response btw I really want to get this going cheers

[SOLVED]Bootloop followed by blue screen when installing any custom rom

I rooted my SM-G7102 using KingoRoot App for Windows.
Later I installed Twrp recovery using Odin 3.10.7 :http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-grand-2/orig-development/twrp-unofficial-twrp-recovery-t2798433
Booted into recovery, did a factory reset and tried installing Resurrection Remix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-grand-2/orig-development/rom-resurrection-remix-m-v5-6-7-t3360391
It installed successfully I latter install 6.0 micro gapps as advised on the ROM's Page and rebooted however it just showed me Sammy BootLogo and then a blue screen and then restarted again
I later did a complete format including /data and also tried installing CM13 unofficial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-grand-2/orig-development/cm-13-0-ms013g-cyanogenmod-13-grand-2-t3299635
however same results.
Another alter I tried was installing both ROMs mentioned above without GAPPS however it didn't work too!
Would love to recieve some help, Thanks.
[EDIT]
p.s: I was using Samsung's Stock Andorid v4.3 firmware before flashing.
Also here is my recovery log: https://gist.githubusercontent.com/ArchKudo/ab4738a2482121fde280643fc86b5ab6/raw/0cae8a800552fc331d841bd1a6798c9a41e524ec/recovery.log

Should I use the same TWRP recovery as mentioned before?
Also is 4.3 known to cause bootloops or is there some guesswork involved?

When u flash new TWRP first time ,backup your efs (imei, modem).
Second with TWRP 2.8.7.0 u can only flash stock Samsung rom that have aroma support.
Only TWRP 3.2.3.0, this is the latest can flash Oreo ,pie ,nougat roms without issue. But remember u can't flash Samsung roms with this and u have to go back to twrp 2.8.7. Then go back to 3.2 if u wanna flash pie ect roms
Hi all
I can successfully flash twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.img.tar and boot into recovery.
But later TWRP,s dont boot.
JJEgan says to flash 2.8.70 and if you need a later twrp flash 2.8.7.0 then through TWRP flash later TWRP.zip.
Question is where can i get a zip of the latest TWRP. The official releases are either img or tar
Thanks

The Twrp are always .img.tar or .img or even apk from play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp. Anyway, i flashed twrp 3.2.3.0 from 2.8.7.0 ( the same one you had ) using Odin 3.11.1 without a single problem! Mybe the problem is just the Odin's version you used, have a look here too to better understand https://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-using-odin/. I hope you can solve it, good luck.
Thanks
When using 2.8.7.0 to flash latest TWRP.img, did you flash to boot or recovery? I get those choices after i select the file to flash. I assume recovery, right?
************ - -UPDATE - -*****************
Flashed img to recovery. All good, said flashing successful . . .but
Tried to reboot to new recovery but got the same boot loop.
Flashed 2.8.7.0 again using ODIN and 2.8.7.0. booted up just fine.
Re flashed 3.2.3.0 from 2.8.7.0. Again the same boot loop
Went back to 2.8.7.0 using ODIN. Booted up.
no idea what to do next
Thanks
I have same issues towards my hlte, twrp ver release later than what you indicated causes recovery boot loops, only 2.8 works. I cant even install custom rom due to unupdated twrp support.

You need to read first.
TWRP cannot flash Aroma based roms after 2.8 as per multiple posts .
Later android based roms use later TWRP 3 versions all posted .
