How many units is the 6pp - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tittle says it all. How many nits or brightness is the screen, my phone auto corrected the tittle. Didn't realize how terrible my g2 is and its impossible to use outside which is where I am most of the time. 260 was max on nexus 6 I believe and it was just too low. S6 has something crazy like 560 so I'm hoping for something like that.

The Z3 can reach 600, one of the best screen I ever had for outdoor. the Note 5 can reach 861.
Some say the 6P has the exact panel as the Note 5, so hope for the best.

I'm not sure that's why I'm asking. Maybe it's a technical detail somewhere or in a spec sheet or possibly it gets tested somehow?

Some Googling tells me the 6P has the same screen panel as the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
But the Gorilla Glass on the 6P is glossier than the Galaxy's, so outside viewing suffers from more glare.
I have not been able to find out total NIT's yet, nor if the 6P can get the "extra bright" brightness that the Galaxy phone's Auto Brightness offers on top of manual brightness.

Isn't this just nit picking .......... Yeah, I went there

guys its low....only downside ive really heard of this phone
356 nits. Another guy who loves the phone just described it as dim.
Good news - much better than the nexus 6 (apparently 260 nits?)
but this phone will just be okay in direct sunlight
just so you guys dont expect who knows what

this page says even the nexus 5 had a higher brightness than the nexus 6.
I'd be really disappointed if the 6p isn't at least above 500..

Gamercore from Phandroid via twitter and the guy that reviewed it from gsmarena via twitter. He actually did the test for the nits.

These reviews really need to mention whether they are disabling the Adaptive Display setting. Because AFAIK, the display gets brighter when this setting is disabled.

i've been wondering this as well. it's interesting you say this because according to other sources, Samsung devices are able to get brighter with Adaptive Display turned on and the display set to auto brightness. so, is it opposite for the 6P?

iPhone 4/4S vs. SIII Screen Brightness at Max

I still have to wait a little while here in the States before I can see the SIII screen in person.
In the meantime, I want to ask the community a favor. I'd really like to know how the SIII's screen stands up to the iPhone 4/4's screen at full brightness on both devices. (With auto-brightness disabled.) If someone has looked at the SIII and the 4/4S at full brightness side by side, could you tell me how they compare? My fear is that the SIII will not be as bright as the 4/4S at max level. If someone currently possesses an SIII and 4/4S and could snap a side by side shot of both screens at max brightness, that would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks!

Do some research... Go to GSM Arena and read up on the SGS3 articles, they have brightness test and measurements comparisons. I would post a link, but I don't want to spoon feed people here anymore. Don't mean to sound like a **** but we all have google at our disposal.

The brightest screen I have ever seen in direct sunlight is the LG Optimus Black. It claims to have the brightness of 700 candles? I laughed when I heard that. But honestly direct sunlight is no big deal to that phone. The Galaxy S III isn't that good in direct sunlight. But don't let that put you off. Everything else I am in love with.

I did read the SIII articles on GSM Arena. I'd like some personal XDA takes versus just what GSM Arena has to say. I know you aren't trying to be rude, but to say my answers are a Google search away is pushing it. Clearly I want to hear from this community regarding the matter. If I was asking a question that can be answered on a spec page, then you'd be right, but I want to hear from others regarding the matter.
I've got both S3 which i got last week and 4s which i am using since past 4 months .
In general i dont find much of difference , but when the the background is white you'll surely find 4s to be brighter same goes when you using the fone under direct sunlight !
The reason the iphone is un-noticably slighty brighter is because of the smaller screen & the type of display.

I've had the 5x since Friday as a review unit from Google. Anyone have any questions. I have the 32gb model, and I've been using the Project Fi network as a complimentary trial. I've been on the 6p forum answering already. It's time for some 5x questions.

The 6p is definitely heavier then the 5x.You can feel the difference. They built the led in the middle of the bottom speaker of the 5x. Much brighter LED then the 6p.
Honestly after my testing, i think the fingerprint scanner on the 5x is quicker and the picture quality is about the same to me. Video is a big difference. Very shaky on the 5x. I have some 4k videos on my YouTube channel if you curious.
If you had the Nexus 5, this nothing like it except for the design of course.

I prefer the Nexus 6p just because of the overall package you get. If they would of put the aluminum casing on the 5x, I would of chose the 5x. I'm using the 6p as a daily driver at the moment and I'm getting 5 hours of screen on time. I will switch tomorrow just to test it out as well .

Here's a good way to test Doze. Put the 5X, 6P and a Nexus 6 with Lollipop on wireless chargers when you're not using the phones. See which phone's battery lasts longest.
Is the edge of the screen on the 5x sharp like the 2013 nexus 5 or rounded off/smooth?
If you place the 5x flat on a table and try to text or use it does it wobble a lot due to the camera bump?

I'm hoping this as well.
I use Three in the UK, and am on an unlimited data plan.
When Android 5.0 came out for the Nexus 5 I ran into issues where they detected the device was tethering and sent a text through and removed my access.
I have since broken my Nexus 5, and have a replacement phone, which I was able to find a workaround by removing the word "dun" from the Access Point "APN type".. I didn't expect it to work - but it did!
I don't think there is a reliable way to test this as carriers are different (and even the plans within each carrier can differ and require different settings).
How's the battery after 1 day of usage? If possible, with the brightness set at 20-30% max.

One of my annoyances on several phones is the amount of time to get the camera to focus and snap a photo in various lighting conditions. Is the 5x camera any better? Just wondering if you've seen issues yet with it lagging when focusing and response time to the shutter button.
I've got a question. In developer options, active services (or similar, the 5th menu entry) how much system ram usage does it show?

does it still worth it?

With all those new phone's came out lately.
I'm confused, S7 looks like a beast, and he is far more beautiful than the 6P.
Although he is also much more expensive and not to mention the crappy touchwiz.
Same thing with Note 5.
The one that caught me is the HTC 10.
But also much more expensive.
Anoter area that I'm curious about is the brightness level, how's the 6P handle?

Really bad battery life? My G4 SOT is around 2-2.5h depends on usage (gaming or not)
But this isn't bothering me because i have another battery with me.
But this isn't the case with the 6P that's why it's important for me.

If you're not concerned of losing the stock android interface and monthly updates, go for either of them. Just be careful, apparently the maximum brightness on the HTC is low too.
Nexus 6P is a good device but brightness is quite subpar* ; same goes with battery life, considering the beefy battery it has got!

I'm not sure why anyone is complaining about battery life on this device, it performs really well for me. It mostly comes down to individual setup anyway, it's like installing a turbo on your car and then complaining that the car has terrible fuel efficiency.
As for whether it's still worth it, probably not. I certainly wouldn't be opting for Samsung though, and the HTC is nice but you'll be waiting several months for any updates. The next Nexus is only a few months away probably, I'd be waiting for that.

The only device i would give up pure android for is HTC. Sense is my second favorite if not par with stock android.
After been with HTC One M8 for a year and a half, than switching for LG G4.
I know how good HTC devices is, only problem is that here in ny country HTC ain't popular, most people's buy iPhone or Samsung and lately LG. Which cost me when i sold my M8, after bought it for 700$ and sold for only 250$ in new condition.
I guess the brightness on the Nexus 6P is higher than HTC 10 and my LG G4.

You won't be waiting "several months" for any updates. The software on the 10 is similar to the A9 and is actually closer to stock than the A9 which got updates roughly 15 days after Nexus devices. Definitely not several months.

I am coming from the M9. The 6P blows it away in every category you mentioned. I can't even get cell reception in my basement on the M9 and the 6P has 2-3 bars. Since nobody really has the 10 other than reviewers you can't really definitely make that statement.
I will say I already miss Sense somewhat. I like having screenshot in the drop down quick settings. Where is the battery percentage? I have the system tuner version but it is useless once you get into the 50-60's percentage. Why no option to restart instead of just turning off? Gmail is terrible for exchange. I tried it again in hopes that the update this week would address some problems but it sucks. The camera app on the 10 will be much better than the 6P. HTC Mail is way better and I can't get hacked versions of HTC apps to work that is on XDA. HTC does some really good things to compliment Android without being overbearing like Touchwiz which keeps it running smooth years later, unlike Samsung. They are subtle but when you don't have them you start to notice.
That said, I was not about to pay $300 more for the 10. If it was the same price. I would have bought it. No phone is worth $1,000.

You are right, i won't buy a phone that cost more than 700$.
My HTC One M8 cost me 700$ and i enjoyed him the whole time i had him
(a year and a half).
When i moved to G4 i missed the sense as well.
But over time you get used to what ever phone you have, unless you have Samsung??
Also i wanted to ask you, as i still wait for more answers, don't wanna rely on one person.
What do you say about the brightness on the 6P? how's it's handle direct sun and outdoors visibility? And how's the camera?

Coming from the M9 it is way better. I guess it all depends on your frame of reference and if you had a S6 S7 Samsung screen before. I can also see what people talk about with this display vs a LCD one on HTC. The images just are more vivid and punchy. If you like the flat look you can change that on the 6P as well. I like the saturation though for a change. The 10's screen is better than the M8 and M9 but not as good as the 6P. At least not $300 better. That's for sure.

The display used in nexus 6p is made by Samsung... I don't think brightness should be an issue... Also you could use ultra brightness mode in elementalx kernel... Regarding camera it's good.... Haven't used g4 so can't exactly compare them... Pm me your email. I will send you photos captured by 6p..
Note: sd810 doesn't support 10bit hevc hardware decoding whereas s7 exynos supports it... So sd820 may support it too... Shouldn't bother you if you don't watch 10bit videos on phone.
Samsung = Knox.
If you want to tether on an UDP (Verizon) you must have root for WiFi tether.
So if I were to buy a phone today, unless I could unlock the bootloader, the device is not on my shopping list.
So for me on Verizon, Nexus or HTC. With HTC you can at least usually pay someone for S-Off.
I have an M9 from day one last year. Really liked it but got the 6P last November because of the improved camera. Also because the monthly updates it receives.

Also who needs removable battery now that there are recharge packs.

Really on the fence atm as well.. The 32gb is about $650 CAD and the 64gb is about $700 CAD on Newegg.. Ive been running through reviews and comparison videos all week and I am so close to purchasing it, but the price still kind of hurts. It has everything I need, but battery life seems to vary among everyone. The camera also seems to have some issues and lag time between users. The most recent update was suppose to fix it, but some users are still experiencing slow-downs. The phone is almost 7 months old, but since its by Google, updates will always be rolling out.
Love stock android as I had the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 5, but moved away to the Asus Zenfone 2, which is already experiencing slow downs and my camera is all wonky. I would never purchase a phone over $600, but the Nexus 6P is looking amazing. Right now, I am just looking for a way to justify buying it

Screen brightness

Anyone else feel like they have to keep their screen brightness on Max most the day? I have always had Samsung devices, which are known for their displays. But this Nexus 6p just seems so dim. I feel my 100% is my Samsung note 4s 60%. Anyone else feel this way? It's just about my only gripe so far with the phone.
Don't feel like that at all. 100% makes me go blind and it's not less bright then the note 5 by much.
So two options:
Bad screen.

That's weird. Like the user posted above me, mine is too bright at 100% also. I have not heard of this complaint before either. Maybe it's defective. These are actually the same amoleds that are made by Samsung. My sgs6 is actually less bright, but my wife's sgs6 is the same on whites and brightness as my 6p.

Have a look at this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.hbmwidget
Disable adaptive brightness in the display settings. Helps greatly as I went through the same thing recently. Now it's the same as Note 5

That was not it, adaptive display was checked. Now it blinds me. I love this phone! Thanks guys!
I had a similar experience coming from the note 4 and also comparing with a friends note 5 brightness at 100% on both phones Samsung was definitely brighter. I didn't think about adaptive brightness though I just disabled that and it is a ton brighter will have to compare again.
