Hello,
I recently acquired an XDA 2 with broken terminal. I soldered a new terminal to it. It is synchronizing fine and charging from USB but it is not charging from main or car charger. Apparenlty all solders are OK and pinout are as they should be (accoring to other postings on this forum). Pins 20, 21, 22 are showing connectivity among themselves and to positive terminal of standard charger. Pins 16, 17 and 18 showing connectivity among themselves and to ground (and negative termial of charger adaptor).
I used more than one chargers and checked voltage. Everything seems OK.
Any idea where the problem may be?

If it's charging via mini-USB, you need a charging cable when charging from a non-data source. These differ from normal USB cables in so much as they have pins 4-5 shorted together.
As an alternative, try resetting the phone with the cable plugged in. Sometimes this is enough to false the circuit to initiate the charging sequence. This emulates what happens when charging via a PC's USB port.

Hi andreibbc,
I took the connector out of an XDA (with broken screen!). You may buy new replacement from ebay (see item number 260138794518) but it will require good soldering skills!

liquidsilver, thanks for your prompt response.
By mini-USB do you mean some special connector? I do not see any mini USB connector in the phone itself. It is charging through sync. cradle using usb connection, irrespective of whether main charger is connected or not. If I remove usb connection from computer it stops charging.
Please advise how to reset the phone with cable plugged in? (I assume you are referring to standard main charging connector)

Thanks for your response.
Since original connector (after resoldering) is working fine except main charging, I would rather keep it.
I would prefer trying options that will keep the existing connector such as resetting phone (as suggested by some other member, how?) or finding the actual cause of problem (including short connectors)
Any assistance will be of help?

if the device is no charging
the most plausble reason is
broken legs on the connector
or bad solvering to the pcb for the chargning pins
or wrong connections

Let me restate the problem.
I got an XDA II with broken connector. I took connector from and XDA (all legs intact) and soldered it to XDA II. Apparently soldering is fine.
The set is now synchronizing fine and charging while synchronizing (through USB and not through main charger). If I remove USB from computer it stops charging even if the main charger remain connected to synchronizing dock.
As long as direct main charging or charging through car adaptor is concern, Pins 20, 21, 22 are showing connectivity among themselves and to positive terminal of standard charger and Pins 16, 17, 18 showing connectivity among themselves and to ground (and negative termial of charger adaptor). If I am not wrong these are two sets of pins that are needed to be connected for main charging. I have checked main adaptor and tried more than one adaptors with same result.
My questions are:
Is there any other pin that may be short (or not connected) that is causing main charging to fail?
Is there any other possible component failure and if yes, which one and how to check it?
If the main charging has some programming part associated with it, is it possible that a reset may restart charging? if yes, how?

Forgot to mention one thing which is that Pin 2, which according to connector diagram should be ground/ sensing is not showing connectivity with ground or with Pins 16, 17 , 18.
Does it affect main charging? and should I ground it?

I just stuck here, cause I found a thread about fast usb charging. But there is no answers or solutions.
I have many htc devices. It seems that some of them has a problem with 3rd party usb chargers.
My most used device is Universal. It suck a lot of power. THis one doesn't enable usb charging at all, until you put it in sleep mode before pluging the charger.
Anyway, the same issue for Kaiser too.
The problem is, that it doesn't matter how much current is the charger able to deliver. They just use some kind of recognition of original chargers.
What I already measured: Original charger and universal running => takes 1200mA. 3rd party charger or my 5A PSU => Universal/Kaiser sucks just 500mA.
This is fast/slow charge. I found here discussion about 4 and 5 pins shorted??
But WTF which 4 & 5 pin?

According to this pinout. It would be 2 GND of Audio side? I'm not sure that original charger use extUSB audio side to charge...? It also could be D & A pins, but I'm afraid to connect 5V to Data- pin.
Anyway, someone here have to know it.
If not, in a few days I'll try all possible combinations and post the results.

PS: Everyone has the same problem of detecting 3rd party chargers when not in standby mode? Cause if not, it could me my ROM, but I had the same problem with the last one...
Last week, I found that my nexus 7 (16g wifi only) start to charge really slow or even not charging. This happen after I upgrade my tablet to android 4.4.2(no root, no mod). I tried all the ways I could found on internet such as disconnect the battery and reconnect after few minutes, downgrade to android 4.3 or 4.2, changing to different type of charger and so on but failed.
After tried for few days, I was frustrated and decided to throw away the tablet. But 2 days ago, when I tried to charge the tablet with samsung galaxy tab2 7.0 charger, I manage to charge from 0% to 50% in two hour. I thought my tablet was back to alive but the tablet stop charging after 50% battery. I tried with oem 2A charger or cheapo china ipad charger and the charging starts but slow and sometimes not charging. I search online and found out that the samsung tab2 7.0 charger has 1.2V at both data pins and both data pins was shorted. I checked my asus oem charger and found out that both data pin was shorted but no voltage supplied.
I take a usb cable, strip and cut both data wire and short both data wire at micro usb side. I connect the tablet to the samsung charger and the tablet start charging and charge at normal speed to 100%. I thought that was the solution but yesterday, when I tried to charge the tablet which has 10% battery remains with samsung charger and my modified usb cable, the tablet charge, but in slow rate. I take half a day to charge to 50%. i exchange the moded usb cable with a normal usb cable and this time the tablet charge to around 80% in one hour. I was confused. Does my tablet need voltage of 1.2V at both data pins for the tablet to recognize as normal charger?
I start to do my experiment by using the oem charger. I apply around 1.2V by using resistors connect to the +5v and gnd. My tablet start to charge at normal rate that i can get the increment in battery % after 1 or 2 minutes in screen off mode. After charge to around 25% my tablet stop charging. I checked the data pins voltage and found out to be around 1.8V. 1.8V??? not 1.2V??? I check the resistors connection and disconnect my tablet from the usb cable. The data pins is now 1.2V. I connect my tablet back to the usb cable, wait for the tablet to start charging at normal rate and disconnect the data wires from the resistor. I tested with multimeter and found out that there was a voltage of 3.1V at data pins (shorted together) from the tablet when charging.
After a few tries by changing the resistors with different values to increase or decrease the data pins voltage, I manage to get a combinations that works well with my charger and my tablet charge normally. With the resistor combination, I get a voltage of 0.5V when no tablet connected and around 1.2V when tablet connected and start charging by using a resistor of 1Kohm connect from the +5V pin to the data pin and 100ohm connect from the data pin to the ground. Actually my tablet shows sign of normal charging when I apply 1V to 1.5V to the data pins that I choose 1.2V for full charging testing. I manage to charge my tablet from 0% to around 30% by using the samsung charger, 30% to 60% using the cheap ipad charger and 60% to 100% using the oem charger. No sign of stop charging or slow charging during the charging process. Maybe this is the solution to the charging problem?
I hope that someone which is more professional in this fields will try my way and give me the final results of the most suitable resistor combination or is my way of solution, or is this just an coincidence or my solution can only be applied onto my tablet? Warning: Try at your own risk.

as one of the pioneers of this thread, trust me i have tried everything, and started solutions you can see if you back track a bit.
what does not work/or temporary works but not permanent:
>OS downgrading
>bootloader upgrading

>changing chargers/cables/using OEM
>all else above
what works:

from what i observe, some symptoms of failure started prior to kitkat, as to some of the nexus' handled to me. and some kitkat dont have it.
and the dock works. led me to conclude it might be hardware, probably with the USB
THE FIX:
OPEN YOUR NEXUS 7 AND RESEAT THE USB CHARGING PORT FROM THE INSIDE. if you do not know how, this video will guide you:

as you can see the 4:07 in the video is the most important, remove the usb port/audio port completely and reseat it, place it back tightly.
my tab was left at 0% charge, unable to charge anymore, so i was left with the option to tinker it. which to my delight, it charges now at 500-900mah. i tried to drain it and charge again charging-recharging 3 times before posting it here to make sure it was not sheer luck, and so it did.
its a hardware problem guys. i just wish google/asus had the courage to admit it rather than we find it ourselves. go ahead try it. post if it works

I have an old Nexus 7 and was about to toss it out because it wouldn't charge, this took 20 minutes and now it charges as it did when new - great.

Thank you very much, it has also fixed the issue to me. The tablet is not ready yet to become e-waste. Genius!
I too was getting the pausing issue . I decided to try to STACK the RavPower on top of the Samsung and low and behold NO MORE PAUSES. NO need for daydream. The phone just charges. to 100 I have this set up in two places and it works well.
The problem seems to be the adapters are not putting out enough juice for one phone So two stacked is better. I ordered 4A USB adapters to see if I can go back to one charger. But right now I have wireless charging

Since today, my phone keeps cycling charging and not charging constantly on dash charge mode. If I use the dash cable with another charger, the phone charges constantly (but not dash obviously). If I use the dash charger with a non dash cable, the phone also charges constantly (but not dash). If I use the dash charger and cable with another phone (Huawei for example), it charges that phone without problem.
Please help.
I would recommend cleaning the pins inside the ubc-c portion of the dash cable that are not fully inside the hub, I believe these are the proprietary charging points for dash charge and get dirty and very finicky
Try cleaning the pins on the cable as described above and if that doesn't work, I think it's time for you to buy a new Dash cable.

I have resolved this issue. It turns out the cable was dying, so I bought a new cable. Same wall charger.
