I'm having some background static during some conversations. The person on the other line heard it too. Almost sounds like White noise. I've searched and some people have commented this can be due to advanced calling on vzn, which I am using and need...
Any other settings I can adjust? Or should I send the phone back? It's really annoying. Unrooted.

Every so often my Droid 2 will start to play a very annoying sound. The sound is difficult to describe, it starts low then goes high then starts going high and low rapidly.
This sound will start to play seemingly for no reason. I'm curious to know what it signifies. More importantly, I want to know how to disable it!
I was describing this problem to a co-worker whose girlfriend has a Droid 2, he seemed to think his girlfriend has experienced a similar phenomenon.
Can anyone help me solve the mystery?
Thanks.

go through your alert sounds and find which file it is. This will help us to know the default sound for the setting that is causing this issue.
Maybe it's trying to warn you of impending doom!

So I checked every available alert, ringtone, noise, etc. and I was not able to find a playable file that matches the noise I've experienced.
I guess since no one else has had a similar problem, I'll classify this as an unsolved mystery.

Is anyone else having issues with call quality after going up to EB01? I am noticing all kinds of new static noise that was never present before...
Yes... Everyone is telling me that I have buzzing sound or sound very far away. Nobody has told me this while I am using my Bluetooth in car though.
I have noticed the same thing.

Hi! During calling, I experienced an annoying background noise. Like the wind blows our some kind of radio signal our I don't know. As soon as the calling is underway, not just after the call is received. The rom us the official KI4. It is some kind of noise reduction problem?

With earphones, there is no fizzy background noise at all. Any ideas?

Firstly, I love the device. Had it since Friday morning and it does all I want it to apart from BBC iPlayer and the sky app (the name has left my head).
Anyway onto my question...
I have noticed that when using the tablet in a quiet environment, I can hear a bit of a buzzing/whistling sort of noise from the screen. If you hold the tablet in landscape with the buttons facing up, the noise is coming from the left side of the screen.
Is this normal or is there something wrong with it? My inital thoughts are that it is normal, but I have not had a tablet before and not used one in quiet environment before.
Thanks a lot.
How loud is it, annoyingly loud, or not too bad?
I'ld be surprised if it's coming the screen. My guess is it's either the left speaker or it's cpu whine.
I dont hear any noise.. or maybe Im deaf?? D:
joke.. no noise here. Will try again later at night when it will be quiter.
I have the same issue. I notice when you turn the screen off the sound goes away. It is starting to become annoying.
I also have this noise. Even that loud, that Google now does not understand me. If I record sound, I almost only hear this noise.
The noise varies with the display brightness.
Google will replace my device. The replacement is already ordered.
I suppose it is a voltage regulator making this noise.

The noise is not ridiculously loud, but I can notice it. I guess noise from voltage regulator sounds like a likely cause. Any idea how long your replacement will take? Might try calling Google on Monday and see what they say.
I called them Friday morning. Today I received a link to order the replacement. Expected shipment is Wednesday.

Well my replacement should be with me on 24th. I have however just noticed how the sound gets worse. The dimmer the screen, the noisier it is. On full brightness, there is no noise.
I also have this noise and I've concluded it only happens when I have auto-brightness enabled. When it's manually controlled it doesn't make the noise but as soon as I turn on auto brightness it starts to buzz faintly.
No noise other than what's caused by auto brightness.

Unfortunately for me it is also there if I manually set the brightness low. Even more annoying is that if I am using Skype the other party hears nothing but the buzzing. Turn the brightness up and they can then hear me. If the next tablet has the same issue I may have to consider a refund and wait and see what gets released early next year. It is a bit of a showstopper for me as I use Skype a lot.
I am wondering if that is interfering with the mic when I record. The record quality on this phone is boo boo.

Turn screen brightness up to full and then try. If you get less/no noise, then it looks liek it is down to the screen. When I was using skype. if it was set to auto/low brightness ther other person just heard a lot of noise. If it set it to full brightness, they could then hear me and not the noise.
I also have this problem, does definitely appear to be directly linked to the screen brightness. The dimmer the worse the noise.
Waiting for Google to sort out RMA as they seem to have something odd with their administration.
Hope it doesn't take long!!

I called mine in on the 19th and had the replacement on the 21st. I can confirm that the replacement does NOT suffer from this issue.
Shame Google can't seem to send me the correct TNT tracking number. The one they originally sent didn't exist (and still doesn't) and the one they sent me for the replacement had been delivery delivered to someone else miles away many days before I even requested the RMA. Just waiting for my return shipping label now.

I'm sure once an RMA is raised then it should be quick based on your experience, it a shame that they have messed up their admin and I have to wait because of it.
My tracking number made no sense either.

Just now noticing this as well, but it seems like the noise has gone away after having the screen on for about 30 minutes.

Can't say as tonight is literally the first time I looked for/noticed the issue. But I'm assuming the buzzing will come back either after the device or screen is off for awhile since I've used my N10 plenty since I got it.

It seemed to be most obvious when screen brightness was at its lowest. Noticed after about 10 mins out of the box.

My call volume is set to the highest level and when I am in a call it's just barely loud enough.
An I alone here? On Verizon.

I've found you have to have your ear flush with the phone. I'm used to angling my ear when talking. It makes a big difference on volume.

It does make a big difference, but the volume is still the lowest I've ever had on a phone.

You need to exchange. mine working great better than my previous phone z3
I agree, you should contact Motorola.
Had this issue with my Nexus 6 sometimes. Always left that one at max call volume. I had to actually turn the volume down 1-2 notches during calls on the MXP. I would also say to contact Motorola.
I'll give Motorola a call.
The volume isn't super quiet, its fine if I'm in a quiet room, but if I'm at a bar or restaurant its going to be really tough to hear anything.
I use an app call HeyTell for 20 second voice messages and that plays loudly in the earpiece so I know it isn't hardware related.

log into my verizon go to features and activate advanced calling aka hd voice then in cellular settings you will have enhanced 4g lte option. Select that.
Remember in order to speak with someone over HD voice on Verizon someone else also has to have active hd voice: galaxy s5,s6,iphone 6 etc.... all those newer phones.
I love HD voice it's super clear.

Were you able to resolve this issue?
I just received my MXPE and absolutely love it, except for the low call volume on the handset earpiece. The low volume is accompanied by some constant low level hiss. Call volume is normal and hiss is gone using any other mode (speaker phone, bluetooth, wired headset). I hate to go through an exchange since I've already got my screen protector installed and that will probably be a loss if I have to get a new phone. But if that is what it takes...
Anyway, would be interested to know what resolution you came to.
I called Motorola, actually tried a factory reset. Determined the phone needed to be replaced. Replacement should arrive today, but through Amazon since Motorola wanted another $25 to ship the replacement before I return the defective unit. A short chat with Amazon and the replacement was expedited to me overnight. Amazon for the win?

Replacement did not fix the problem. It's looking like a Marshmallow issue. Details at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3277589.
