My call volume is set to the highest level and when I am in a call it's just barely loud enough.
An I alone here? On Verizon.

I've found you have to have your ear flush with the phone. I'm used to angling my ear when talking. It makes a big difference on volume.

It does make a big difference, but the volume is still the lowest I've ever had on a phone.

You need to exchange. mine working great better than my previous phone z3
I agree, you should contact Motorola.
Had this issue with my Nexus 6 sometimes. Always left that one at max call volume. I had to actually turn the volume down 1-2 notches during calls on the MXP. I would also say to contact Motorola.
I'll give Motorola a call.
The volume isn't super quiet, its fine if I'm in a quiet room, but if I'm at a bar or restaurant its going to be really tough to hear anything.
I use an app call HeyTell for 20 second voice messages and that plays loudly in the earpiece so I know it isn't hardware related.

log into my verizon go to features and activate advanced calling aka hd voice then in cellular settings you will have enhanced 4g lte option. Select that.
Remember in order to speak with someone over HD voice on Verizon someone else also has to have active hd voice: galaxy s5,s6,iphone 6 etc.... all those newer phones.
I love HD voice it's super clear.

Were you able to resolve this issue?
I just received my MXPE and absolutely love it, except for the low call volume on the handset earpiece. The low volume is accompanied by some constant low level hiss. Call volume is normal and hiss is gone using any other mode (speaker phone, bluetooth, wired headset). I hate to go through an exchange since I've already got my screen protector installed and that will probably be a loss if I have to get a new phone. But if that is what it takes...
Anyway, would be interested to know what resolution you came to.
I called Motorola, actually tried a factory reset. Determined the phone needed to be replaced. Replacement should arrive today, but through Amazon since Motorola wanted another $25 to ship the replacement before I return the defective unit. A short chat with Amazon and the replacement was expedited to me overnight. Amazon for the win?
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
Replacement did not fix the problem. It's looking like a Marshmallow issue. Details at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3277589.

Anyone feels that speaker is too weak and cant hear people's talking in the phone calling? I have to use handfree when doing calls. Just so annoying!

Please download AnEQ equaliser from market. It enable you to boost +15DB of output to your speaker. Used that. Clear sound but touch bass boost will distort the speaker.

Mine is loud enough. Haven't changed anything.

Thanks for introducing the app to me. I really donno if that's hardware problem or not. Or maybe just the phone is too big and I don't get used to it. I used 3.5" monitor mobile before. And now the phone is bigger, when do phone calls, my holding must have to be different. The speakerpohone always cant reach my ear hole. LOL!
Works beautifully. There is another app called "Volume+" which provides more options for Headsets and Bluetooth too. It too works good but "AnEQ equaliser" is bit louder.
I requested an RMA for my device and the new received device has the same problem, the buzzing/interferences in the earpiece. I'm thinking about requesting another RMA but I want to be sure that there is someone who doesn't have this problem or I will wait until new devices without this are manufactured.
Mine doesn't buzz, and was ordered on the 27th. My hearing is good too, so I'd notice it
Like a little clear buzz? That's what I get on any call tho
Mine doesn't and i ordered it on the first release.

You must try to put against your ear. It is tiny buzz only when screen on . Mine I can hear it on locked screen. But it gone if I turn off screen
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Nope. No buzz here, no matter how close I hold it to my ear.
Ordered on the 4th.
So do you normally operate your phone next to your ear when not in call?
I know some are worse than others. If it is barely inaudible I wouldn't worry about it
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Everyone realizes that as people age they lose the ability to hear certain frequencies right? So the people that cant hear it, maybe you just cant hear that frequency anymore. Hearing higher frequencies has nothing to do with "good" hearing either.
Then again, maybe they really don't have the buzzing noise. Just something to throw out there.

Mine is barely audible, but can't help believe that constant buzzing is causing battery drain. That sound energy must be powered from somewhere.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Mines has a slight buzz when phone screen is off, on etc.Very minimal
During phone calls, I barely hear it, phone calls are clear so I'm just going to keep it the way it is. It's dealable and doesn't bother me.
Pretty sure the buzz doesn't cause a drain. I have amazing battery life as it is atm.
I had the same issue and got a RMA. My second one has the same buzzing earpiece only when I hold it to my ear in a silent room. Is this normal because I already replaced it once. I don't here anything in calls.

Mine never had a buzzing problem. I can hear to about 14kHz

Mine does not. If It did I would return it.
I have had multiple peeps listen to it just to ensure.
I reckon most people have it but don't hear it. Go to a dead silent room and turn your phone on, listen very carefully and there's probably a faint buzz. As you can tell, this is what I experience, but damn you'd have to be super picky to RMA for that. If you're hearing it semi-clearly in calls then that's another thing!

I'm on my 3rd n4 and they all had the noise. This one I have is perfect besides the noise so I'm just going to keep it.
I purchased the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500.
I'm facing a crackling/distortion during calls.
I got my handset replaced twice. My 2nd and 3rd handset after replacement also face the same issue.
I have given my handset again for replacemnt.
Anyone facing the same issue?
There's a crackling/distortion during calls at max volume.
+1
I have noticed that too. Beyond a certain sound, there is cracking sound. Happens on Airtel Network.
Yup!!!!!!!!
Same here. More audible when you hear the ring back tone. its like some thin film vibrating over the speaker.
btw I am on airtel too
Same here, when having a call I can hear a crackling sound, it's minor but somehow annoying. Right now I'm not worried but I'm thinking about how it might become a bigger problem in the future.

Fixed on MF3 :good:
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
I can also confirm that samsung has fixed the problem. I am using MF8.
I don't think this is a software issue, but a hardware one.
I disassembled an S4, I unmounted the earpiece speaker. It comes attached with 2 more sensors.
I made a test call with the back case disassembled so I could press with my finger against the earpiece speaker and the crackling noise dissipated away.
Its like by pressing on it the vibration of the speaker was limited and it sounded pretty normal at max volume.
As a workaround, I inserted a piece of low density foam (found in many packaging boxes) between the earpiece and the front speaker grill and the distortion appeared again, but fainter, after I mounted the back case (speaker assembly) and tightened the screws. Indeed, like others said, its best heard when ring tone is playing when calling someone.
The earpieces is found for $3 on ebay as spare parts, maybe I'll try a new one.
I really hope its not a Samsung design flaw. Check the pics. Thoughts?
I'm pretty upset. I paid a lot of money for this phone, it has a problem and I don't like to send it to service to get it raped by some uncaring hands. I would like to have it changed, I hope its not going to be a difficult process as many things are in my country after you pay the money. How hard was it for you to get it changed?
Has this issue been treated in other threads on the internet?
Little offtopic: the best in call sound experience I had was/is with Blackberry Bold series. They have a clear sound, crisp, no distortion, even with a little bass. Sounds solid. Too bad is that limited.
The problem is with Adapt Sound!, disable it in sound settings [Call Sound] and everything should be fine. Hope this helps:good:
The Speaker!
I've used many smartphones in my days, but the speaker on the Moto X is by far one of the best I've ever heard. It actually has noticeable bass! And the volume is ridiculously loud. I'll even go as far as to say it bests the HTC One's dual speakers
Yea, the speaker on this phone is a beast... Way way better than my sgs3, that phones speaker doesn't even belong in the same category as the moto x.
AT&T Moto X rocking 4.4
It's definitely a good speaker. Gets loud and stays clear.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
did not know that since i always have headphones on will try it one of these days
Open up the EQ settings in Google Play Music and set the speaker EQ (not wired stereo) to Extreme Bass! It sounds best in that mode!
Fair warning guys I was playing music at full volume on my 2 day old x and the speaker blew, no sound at all. Yes its great and loud and I love it but be careful. Unfortunately I love it so much I play at full volume on my new x too

define "blown". a blown speaker can still produce sound but sound distorted. a malfunctioning speaker may not produce sound at all. somehow i doubt the speaker inside the phone can move enough air to actually BLOW.
It definitely does not best the HTC One speakers. Not in dynamic range at least.
Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk
Anyone else notice that if you set the phone on the counter, face up, it actually gets louder and clearer due to the curve in the back of the phone. The sound seems to ricochet off the surface the phone is sitting on...when I would set my nexus 4 on a counter it would basically mute the speaker.

Anyone else have this issue? It is a real pain because the earbuds (original with phone) essentially turn into earPLUGS which block my ability to hear my own voice during calls. Is there an adjustment or fix for this? I CAN hear the other party, its just my own voice which is totally muted.

Test these earbuds in another phone. If it doesn't work, then maybe the earbuds don't support this feature.
