OK, so I reach to pick up my phone... Moto notify does it's thing and shows the padlock... I swipe down to unlock, and despite being in a well lit area etc I'm greeted by my unlock pattern.
If I wake the phone with the power button, it sees my face just fine and unlocks, no pattern required.
Same for everyone else?

Yeah, what you do is when you get asked to put in your pin you press the back button, do the face unlock, and swipe up to unlock your phone like usual, sadly there's no other way to get around it.
Works fine with smart unlock with a bluetooth device.
Yeah it's fine for when I have the smart unlock for trusted location and trusted bluetooth device (ie at home and car, in my case), but it's bit of a pain that the trusted face doesn't work with it.
Ah well, maybe it'll be fixed in M... but I won't hold my breath

Press the menu button twice in quick succession. Bye bye lock screen
nice tip! Good for those times when you have ever so slightly damp fingers (which makes swiping on the screen so difficult!)
Don't you then have the pattern/password thing to deal with?
With the amount of online integration on this phone you've gotta be crazy to not protect it, surely? Or is the pattern unlock not that secure anyway? I have no onscreen or vibration indicators turned on, is that enough?
The pattern lock still comes up.
I don't have the pattern lock enabled.
What data do store on the hero that you're worried about some else getting their hands on it? And are you really that worried about losing it- I've actually superglued mine to my hand. No chances taken with my baby.

My main email for years? All the stuff that goes with that?
I don't have lock pattern and I only have to press menu once. I pressed it twice and the menu came up so I tried once and that worked too.

Press it once to turn screen on, then another time to remove swipe lock. If the screen is already on (in lock screen) then pressing menu twice will unlock then bring up the home screen (or whatever screen is behind the locked screen) menu.
If you press it in quick succession it will bypass the lock screen completely. Too quickly though, and you'll still see the lock screen.

*having my Hero in my pocket... 10 minutes later my stuff in my pocket (not THAT stuff) have managed to call up a long distance call...*
Do you still think the doublepressing of the Menu button is a good idea?
I don't.
HTC has definitly made a mistake here since it shouldn't be that easy to unlock the phone.
I've had this exact problem, people receiving mysterious calls at all times from my pocket! I'd been trying to work out how it happened, but that might be the answer
I just bought the Droid Turbo and I encrypted my phone with a PIN. Now when my phone is in between the screen off and the 5 minute lock time for the pin access, if you press the power button it automatically goes to the home screen. On my 5 other Android phones in between the screen off and the PIN lock out time if you press the power button you still have to slide to unlock. Is there any way to get this back? Or a 3rd party app that will let me do this without disabling the security PIN? I have tried several KitKat and Lollipop lock screen apps but they all remove the pin lock security. I do have the Tasker app but i am unsure how to set this option up. Thanks for any help. If I need to explain the issue better let me know.

I don't think it is available that way with Moto Display. On my Moto X 2013 it doesn't do that either. Because there is a slide unlock on the Moto/Active Display when there are notifications or when the device moves, you slide there to either get the notification or go to the home screen.

I like that feature however, if I press the power button it goes straight to the home screen without sliding to unlock. I dont like that. I want to have to slide to unlock even if I press the power button.

You would probably need a 3rd party lock screen to do that, but I think you'd then always swipe to PIN, after that 5 minutes passed. You can only select one lock screen type on Moto X, so it is either slide OR PIN/Password, but you can't have both. I know what you're referring to, I had it on my Droid X and Droid Razr Maxx, but the only way to turn those on was with the power button. Because the newer Moto phones have Active/Moto Display, I think it works as the slide unlock.
I can say that over time you will use the power button less and less, because you will get used to the Active Display. It's a hard habit to shake, but you'll actually find yourself turning your phone on less to check notifications. On my Moto X I pick it up and see there is a notification (or see it "breathing" an unread notification) and if I press and hold on the circled notification I can see the details. So I can see what the text is, who the email is from, what the tweet is, etc and if I don't care to unlock and view I can swipe left/right to clear it without every actually turning the screen on or unlocking the phone.
If you control the apps that are able to show on Active Display and only places ones you really care about, you'll turn your phone on even less and only for the things you feel are important.
Tasker to add slide to unlock with PIN

I use Tasker and Secure Settings to set/remove my PIN based on my home WIFI connection (it turns PIN off when I'm at home).
Setup your profile with Tasker first, then create an action and select Plugins (or 3rd party, I forget), and select Secure Settings. You'll have a big list of options, Keyguard is under Actions and Password/PIN is under Dev Admin actions. You'll need to enable Secure Settings as a device administrator in your phone settings.
You will probably need to have a profile that sets keyguard when the screen shuts off and waits 5 minutes, then disables keyguard and turns on PIN/Password lock. Then another profile that resets the status to recycle it once you unlock the phone.
Can you post the step by step instructions. I have never used Tasker before and I am completely lost.

There's an option to Lock Immediately on Power or something. In security settings. Or just reduce your time out.
Don't use it if you use finger print scanner. I connected my BT headphones and the smart lock prompt appeared. I switched it on but unlocking the phone will require a 2 step process.
Smart lock doesn't seem to be in the menu either, so Samsung must of taken it out. I had to unpair my device to fix it.
Settings > Lock screen and security > Other security settings > Trust agents
Smart lock working fine for me(bluetooth and location) no 2 step process and I am using fingerprint unlock

Try setting it up right next door, and then turn your phone off, then back on. That's what finally fixed mine, and now it works perfectly.
Smart lock works but its quicker to turn it off and just put your fingerprint over the home button.
With smart lock on you have to turn on the screen and then swipe.

It's useful when driving and the phone's in a dash mount. Nothing like trying to get a fingerprint unlock while driving. With smart lock I tap the power button and swipe the screen all without looking at it. Also at work I wear gloves so I can't scan my thumb, again swiping is easier there.
But everyone's situation is different. I for sure don't have my home set up as a trusted place, don't need my roommates rummaging through my phone.
No problems here. I have my Moto 360 as a trusted device as well as my location at home. So far, no problems. No two step authorization. Just hit the power button and swipe up to go.

i also dont understand why they dont add a trusted wlan to the location options

I use both just fine.
Somehow it won't work with my home wifi. Am I missing something?
The way I understand it smart lock keeps my phone unlocked even though a lock is enabled under custom circumstances? In my case I want it to be unlocked while connected to my home wifi.
What could be the issue here because even though I'm connected to my home wifi, when a lock is set I always have to unlock the phone.
Recently I started having an issue with fingerprint unlocking.
When I press the home key and put my thumb on it, the screen registered the thumb by the display getting slightly smaller then bigger and vibrating, but it doesn't unlock or change from the lock screen.
If I setup away the lock screen notifications or swipe to get to the "enter password or fingerprint" screen then it will unlock normally.
It seems to have simmering to do with notifications being on the lock screen.
Any ideas?
Help. I used the fingerprint lock screen method. Now on The Samsung s7, is asking for a password, after shutting down the phone, then back on. I can't get any passwords to work to release the locked screen. What do I do

why u posted on a two old month post?
and that situation looks like a stolen phone lol
when u set up fingerprint lock the phone ask u for a secondary method to unlock like pattern, pin or password (u can't setup figerprint unlock w/o doing this), when u reboot the phone ALWAYS ask u for that method on the first unlock, then u can use fingerprint as usual
The OnePlus 6T's fingerprint sensor can easily be bypassed with this trick. . We have confirmed it working on two phones so far. Phone Unlocks itself via camera and voice from Lock screen, plz some one report..
Please confirm that the phone cannot see your face when you unlock it, and no Smart Lock trigger was active.
This alleged problem does not exist on my phone.

No i turned off face unlock , it just unlocks itself, just open the camera from lockscreen then close the camera app,
no , i turned off face unlock, it unlocks itself from launching camera from lockscreen thn closing the camera app, it bypasses all security locks " fingerprint , pins and face unlock"
We shall wait for others to check. I couldn't reproduce the error at all.
Do not have this problem with mine, are you sure you don't have your left thumb registered?

Yeah I can't reproduce this error either.

Either way if this is true. you should be reporting it to OnePlus. Not telling everyone on XDA how to break into someone elses 6T

So if I'm hearing you right, you're saying that by opening the camera from the lockscreen and then pressing your home button, your phone unlocks? Doesn't do that for me, it prompts me for my PIN or fingerprint when I press the home button. Can't reproduce this either... Might reinstall OOS? I'm at a loss for advice on this one.
I can reproduce this. I use navigation gestures, so opening the camera from the lockscreen and then just close it with the right (or left) swipe gesture to go back and you're in the phone. I don't think it has anything to do with the fingerprint sensor.
Edit: now I can't reproduce it anymore strange.. [emoji848]
I'm not able to reproduce this either. Switched to navigation gestures. Turned off face unlock. Launched camera from lock screen. Swipe from side to go back took me to lock screen with fp prompt only, no keypad for PIN. Tried again, this time swiping from middle to go home. I get fp prompt & keypad for PIN. However, with this screen the camera stays open and viewable through the lockscreen, but phone is still locked.
After a few tries I see my home screen but it's only a flash then it's back to my lock screen. It looks like it may want to but maybe I'm doing it wrong. Either way, this looks important enough to report to OP and see what's what.

Tilted phone so it can't capture my face and tried as you've said - running camera and voice commands from lockscreen and phone is still locked, cannot bypass..
So there are two vartiants.
1) Phone still recognizes your face
2) Enabled smart unlock? so phone knows that you are in home and automatically unlocks device.

Nope, i unlocked my friends mobile @ my home...
You sure you have a pin/fp/pattern set up at all?
I've been trying for 5 minutes with gestures and it always just either asks me for a pin or sends me back to the lock screen.
Seems odd but maybe post it on the OP forums instead of here, won't get them to fix it if they aren't aware of it...
Nope. Unable to reproduce.
