I believe that is going to come to our devices before the end of the year.

Will be at ~ mid-late Dec or early January.
A leaked firmware/test firmware in november+ a semi-stable version in december ( my guess is russian or ploand), a good build next year - february.
we will get it when they release Android N (Nutella)

I think it will be soon, the latest 511 already has some doze functionality backported, maybe next month? Anyway since this is one of the most important new features I don't care much, as long as it is stable and bug free

Mmmm Nutella! Android Nutella!
I hope they wait a bit after reading all the issues the new permission Model in M still has. This is more a consumer device than a Nexus so they should take their time and wait until it's also ready for the "average" user. Hopefully they don't rush the update like they did last year with the S5 and Android L (with all the bugs it had).

This for example. It seems like there can go much wrong if an app is written against the newest api but the developer "forgot" to ask for a permission in the right situation. If even Google makes that mistake with their G+ app this will happen to many other devs too.
So far I hoped that Android M will automatically ask for a permission when it's needed - even when the developer didn't create a customized request. But it looks like it doesn't which looks like a big fail to me.
And this is another thing which sounds also like a big mess. App settings spread across the system ... this will be a nightmare for the average user. Hopefully Google will fix that soon or OEMs like Samsung will take their time to change it and don't implement it the same way Google did.

I feel Google should have stayed on Lollipop for this year as well instead of announcing a new version.
There are still a lot of bugs and polishing that could have been fixed and done in let's say in 5.2 but no, they had to take out a new version when Lollipop still isn't present on the majority of devices.

it doesn't matter how they call it, it's just a new release. Bugs will be squashed, features will be added.

This is Lollipop, just renamed to Marshmallow. It's mostly fixes, better battery usage and optimizations. The only really new features are hidden like Doze, superficial like Google Now Tap, and security fixes for Google Pay.

I think that article was a bit on the tabloid level, because while it's true Google flubbed the G+ permissions, Marshmallow asks for them. I checked, all permissions were off, and in G+ I wanted to take a pic and post it, and it automatically asked for both Camera permission and storage permission. I've granted both, and after both were set in the Apps/G+/Permissions.
As for the other problem, I don't get it, how it is a problem, but it really can be for some.

With Android 4.4 KitKat, Google is aiming to bring a better Android experience to the masses through features such as reduced memory consumption on low-memory (512MB) and low-cost devices, and that has had a lot of people hoping manufacturers will bring the new version of Android to some of their mid-range devices that may not otherwise be eligible for another update. Well, according to an image we received in our inbox, Samsung is thinking of doing just that, and is considering the update for some of its mid-range and low-end devices.
In a document SAMSUNG has decided to release KITKAT update for SAMSUNG GALAXY S III Mini.Yo can see in below image :

i have read the source friend, it specifically says "However, just because Samsung is considering the update doesn’t mean the updates will actually come" so when you say "In a document SAMSUNG has decided to release KITKAT update for SAMSUNG GALAXY S III Mini" its misleading as they havent decided. ST-Ericsson are no more so the chances of an update is slim to none unfortunately.
Samsung first have to release new kernel for our device before kitkat it means we must get 4.2 maybe its true about ram but what about processor
because of heavy bloatware i think samsung have to redesign a touchwiz for our device its s4 mini which will get 4.4 most likely but sometimes miracle can happen . I hope we get new kernel for maclaw
They know it's possible. I mean, look at the Android development forums. There are already a few stable KitKat ROMs. They don't have an excuse to not release it.

Just a tiny issue that the settings option for gallery is not working. But i think it is not a problem thinking all Maclaw's hard work.

don't you underestimate an official release... 99.9% of smartphones don't even know the word root but many care about updates and the s3 mini is one of the top 10 selling devices around the globe and also used to cost 400 euro. so they have to release it. otherwise the'll lose customers. ste-ericsson not giving drivers is an excuse, maclaw with some others is a single developer that has booted almost fully working kit kat for s3 mini, Of course samsung can release a stable kitkat... and in my s3 mini capacitive buttons don't work when i flash a custom rom so i really need the official kitkat...
I installed last night and everything looks good. Hats of to MacLaw.
Just 1 thing. I have i8190N and have lost NFC now. Would be nice to see a ROM for the N variant.

Still Good if...
I've been following Maclaw's work for months now, using his work as a "final" ROM for my device. However, what some users state here is a very valid idea, which I support. Is cool and all that we have Maclaw, Oliver and all of'em (without the drama, please save that for TV Soap Operas), but many many people out there would like to have the "Real Deal", be it for the sake of convenience -we sure enjoy testing every new update of our ROMs- but other people want an experience that "just works"- or because they prefer to have an officially backed up software. And let's face it, Samsung is the manufacturer of this phone and no one but the manufacturer would know better how it works and how to upgrade it. You custom developers are awesome, no doubt, but the manufacturer will always be a little above in the matter of knowing the device and undestanding it.
So, I really doubt Samsung will, after all this time, update our S3 mini, but I also think it would be awesome if they did so and I would totally use their update if they manage to improve the weak points of the last official one.
The question remains... did anyone get a legitimate version of KitKat?
If so, what are the chances of the G730A Model getting it, and of said thing is done, will it make it easier for us to root the G730A?

Do you think that the GPE will get the update to android l a lot faster then the stock ones? Considering the stock roms are nearly pure android, do you think there will be a noticeable difference?
How many days do you think the GPE will save compared to the stock one?
How many days was it in the past? Or how many days is it *usually* for motorola devices or even other devices for that matter?

I really don't know man. Pure logic says that GPE will get it faster because you will not depend on the carrier to release it, just Google. So once they push the button all the GPE devices will get it....
In another note, I feel that the GPE runs much MUCH fluid than the non-GPE.

Yes I know, but I was refering to the carrier...so for example if you have Verizon, you have to wait until Verizon releases the update, not just Google and then Motorola. In the GPE, since it is unlocked you dont have to wait for any carrier to release it, so you are avoiding one step, hence I think is faster....

Great news, I had a really bad experience with my previous phone (Desire X) and updates. It got 4.1.2 3 months after release, but never saw another update after that from HTC. I think smartphones should be able to get updates from the OEM's for at least 2 years.
Most ironic fact was that I paid $300 for the Desire X, and $199 for the Moto G. Go figure...

Yup, paid 200€ for the moto G (in Romania, Motorola has no power here), and almost 300€ for the galaxy s3 mini... Galaxy s3 mini got the 4.1.2 update!!! From 4.1.1... And moto G is on a freaking list by Google, considered equal for updates as the nexus 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and the HTC one M8...
Not to mention my sister got the Moto E, the 150€ phone (here) with better support than the galaxy s5, which probably won't get lollipop this year, or even this winter... 600€ device, doesn't get software updates because Samsung is probably still stuck with their old TV update policy, which doesn't exist.
Whoop Whoop. such good news. Just got my Moto G GPE!
And soon Lollipop for GPE
I have posted this in reddit and wanted to share it here too. While I was browsing the LG SmartWorld site, I clicked the phone selection link on the right to choose the G3. After choosing the G3 and hitting OK, a dialog appears asking the operation system of the phone and there are options for Android 5.0 and Android L. I also checked this with other phones and these only appear in G3 models. Maybe a hint towards an early Lollipop update?
Now that's interesting. Hopefully it IS a sign we'll be getting it soon.
Interesting link i found
Came across this in a google search in regards to android l looks like early files for the new OS maybe just for the boot process so far.

Do not expect many things.we are talking about LG the worst company in the updates. I wish to be wrong but something tell me that we will only see android L with the next release of lg g4. Lg usually brings the updates 3 months after Samsung and htc . Htc which promised fast update to m8 it states a few days ago that it will give the android L 90 days after received the stable version from Google. That means that the fast plan from htc is about 4 months from now. Guess now LG which slowest than a turtle.we are talking about 7 to 8 months. Which will be very near to the release of next g4. So it will wait a few months more to release the new g4 with the new lolipop experience. I wish to be wrong but lg has a very bad history.
LG G4 will be released with 4.4.....LG in a nutshell

Lol that has to be a joke from them. They can't even get the carriers to release anything. So yeah 6 month isn't so unrealistic. Even for canadien android releases

I have no faith in LG but if they update this phone to 5.0 it will sell more of these for them. So we might get lucky cause they are greedy.
I believe that it will take longer than 6 months to get out to carriers (At&t still is on 10d.) But it could be possible for the international versions.

If all of these guys have not been working with the preview build code and getting all their ducks in a row, i would be SHOCKED. This is a new way for google to announce the OS and i think they did it to give OEMS time to get stuff ready for fast updates. Once final code drops, i wouldnt be surprised to see OEMS releasing for certifications from carriers within a month. At least HTC and samsung! lol But here is the thing i keep hoping for. Samsung used to be HORRIBLE with updates, then they figured it out and now are one of the fastest (HTC still has the crown). LG Could do the same. Especially with all the time they should have already had with the base code (not any MAJOR changes really even in this latest preview). Fingers crossed. As long as i have this phone long enough to actually see the update. My tmobile jump and a nexus 6 or note 4 are almost tempting me, but i love this phone!
The Nexus factory images are already up and online: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
I was wondering if anyone has news or ETA of the update on our phone. Curiosity boggles the mind.
Thanks in advance,
Taney

Its the adopted stepchild between Samsung and Google. Google doesnt want it because its not their hardware, Samsung doesnt want it because its not their firmware. I can live without an SD card, if the internal is larger than a 32gb. I feel like they have abandoned the S4 GPE. But it has been my favorite phone yet. I run the latest stock rooted. Do not even need root really. Ever so often I may flash CM just out of curiosity, but thats if I want to build CM for myself.
But I dont know if I can live without an easily removable battery.

But I dont know if I can live without an easily removable battery.

Exactly! It's obvious that Lollipop update will arrive for all GPE devices (it has been confirmed many times and these delays are due to bug fixes), but I'm tired of seeing how they treat the S4 GPE!
I know that a removable battery is a very important factor in a mobile phone, but I have a tablet (Galaxy Note 8.0) without a removable battery and, thanks to many tutorials on the web, I've learnt how to remove it. Then, this is also a surmountable obstacle
About large internal storage capacities, the Nexus 6 has a maximum storage of 64 GB, which is a very large capacity. We don't have to wait a lot for a larger storage capacity, such as 128 GB

Yeeeess! Probably, Samsung will be the last one to update its device, but all these news are a confirmation of Lollipop's arrival on GPE devices!
Hey guys! These are the first two pictures of Lollipop on the S4 GPE from SamMobile! Yeah!

We are in December! It seems the rollout will start during this week. I hope it so
Even if the first firmwares were rejected twice by Google, today HTC has updated its two GPE devices to Lollipop 5.0.1! Still nothing from Samsung! Why? Because they've decided to update first their flagship, the S5, yesterday, instead of the S4 GPE, which doesn't need changes, since it's vanilla Android!
Now it's sure: this has been the second and last Samsung device I've bought, then I'll move to Nexus! -_-"
EDIT:
The Motorola Moto X Google Play Edition has been updated to Lollipop on November 25th, so the only GPE device to be updated is the S4! Grrrr!

My LG and Sony Devices both never got KitKit even through promised, and the Sony got promoted as a devoloper friendly phone which was not true, but on the other hand the S4 is devoloper friendly which i like, you just need to wait, all TW is **** but the devs will make cm12 or AOSP of 5.0 that will rock dont you worry, just have patience.

Well, no, definitely Lollipop update for the S4 GPE is confirmed, since we saw new screenshots from SamMobile some days ago. Surely, Samsung has delayed the update, because probably they will start the rollout of Lollipop 5.0.1, without passing first for Lollipop 5.0. The problem is we are all impatient by now! XD

did they end up pushing marshmallow or is it still June? Not sure if I should get this phone, or a LG G Stylo or Escape

Marshmallow will start rolling out around the end of May/beginning of June.
But it's your choice. If you are considering the 5.5" variant, then it's the best out of the three.
Same if you are considering the 4.7" variant. It is still better than the G Stylo and Escape.

Idols are pretty solid phones for the price, it's gonna be kinda hard to beat them. Don't let the android version stop you, marshmallow or not they are great.
I personally have had really bad experiences with cheap lg phones, you'd be lucky if you get what you pay for.
If you do go for an lg other then a g3/4 I'd really suggest looking up multiple reviews first.

I've been getting this on my 6045I ever since I got it 2 weeks ago. Is Android M marshmallow? And does anyone recamend updating to "5.0.2-010 01" if I want root? Is it buggy?

I have the LG Stylo from T-Mobile, and the idol international version on cricket, but using AT&T Apn with great success. In my opinion, the Stylo is a much more solid device, with removable battery, incredible memory management, and already has marshmallow. The idol can't be beat for music though, and hopefully marshmallow will fix high all the time memory usage. Just don't get the cricket version of either of these, as the hardware and software are lesser. I happily use both, and have Google voice for handling the number integration. Have the idol on cricket's inexpensive plan, and it comes in handy when I travel to have AT&T service [emoji51]

I have had this phone through Cricket since Nov. 2015, and i loved it until the patch came through. I have now had to have it replaced twice because it will turn off on its own, when i try and use Google play music it locks the phone screen immediately. I think all of the bugs are A) due to Crickets bloat wear or B) due to the bugginess of 5.0.2. Has anyone else experience any flaws and glitches? I LOVED this phone up until this point and now i want to throw it at a wall, or move back to the ZTE Max Plus (2) since it just dropped.
