Moto E UK Lollipop upgrade - Moto E General

Thought you all might enjoy this conversation with the Motorola UK support chatline - can't say I did
After a 20 minute wait
Sai: Hi, my name is Sai. How may I help you?
Me: I have a UK retail first generation Moto E and am wondering when the Lollipop upgrade is likely to be available
Sai: We appreciate your interest on Motorola software updates.
Me: I am glad of that but could you please answer the question?
Sai: Actually we are very close to the official release of L update to all the moto devices. I suggest you to wait until you get the official update.
Me: I have been waiting for several months. Could you please tell me what 'very close' means?
Sai: As we focus on making sure it is tested for the best possible experience to provide our customer an error free android l and that it is compatible with current apps in the marketplace.
Me: But you have already rolled out in several other countries. Why is the UK taking so long?
Sai has disconnected

That's quite amusing (but not for us E 1st gen users)
I been emailing Motorola since 6th July, I got my 1st gen E from Tesco on a 24 month contract.
I was promised by the young lady it was garunteed to be updated to lollipop "within a month of purchase" (got it on 6th of June, it had 4.4.4 KitKat on it at purchase)
No update came, so I started emailing them when I saw on Google+ the update had rolled out in India, Asia and Brazil.
I was told in reply that the device offered for sale in these continents was an XT1022, a very different devise to the XT1021 that we have in the UK.
They also told me they couldn't comment on "continent pacific updates"
I thought "thank you very much, but wheres my answer and when am I getting lollipop?"
I got fed up with waiting, unlocked my bootloader, flashed TWRP recovery, my decision was to install CM12.1.
I then I found a rom port of the Asia, Brazilian and United States stock Motorola 5.1 moto e first gen rom on here by a dev called @lost101, I flashed the US rom and it works flawlessly on my moto e, just make sure if you decide to flash it you download the rom pacific to your own device, ie XT1021, XT1022 ect, ect.
the rom can be found in the moto e development section here on XDA and is titled "Motorola 5.1 lollipop stock rom collection.

Bewildering!! Im amazed L isnt out given when it landed on the Nexus devices. Im now running CM11 which has been a significantly better experience.

I could have sworn a few days ago that I got a software OTA update notification a few days ago on my Moto E (retail version) but I declined it, wanting to do it manually as I was at work at the time. Now I can't get my phone to recognise that there is a software update at all.
Did I just imagine the OTA update? Or have other people had problems where they decline the OTA and then can't later update manually?

Apparently if you plug the phone into a PC with the Motorola website open it will find the available updates.
Regarding these ota updates, we should be thankful we are getting lollipop at all.
There's just been a huge backlash of moto e (2015) 2nd gen owners as this newer device isn't getting marshmallow, which means from release to now, the e second gen has the shortest device support of any manufacturer, just under 300 days!!!
I suppose the only way any of us will see M on a 1st or second gen E would be via CM13 (if any dev is willing to become a device architect and port it to either E's.
I've read that there is doubt that a newer or 3rd gen E is going to be released.
Moto were onto a winner with the e and if you read or watch the e sales paper/video, it was hailed as being the device that will be updated regularly.
Motorola said themselves. In black and white and on video!
Pity because my E is the best android I've owned.
Full stop.

yes u did my battery was on 5% iv charged it tried a manual update :crying: no update:crying:

I hope it will be available within the next few weeks.

Knock me sideways with a feather: the upgrade arrived! I was logged onto the Motorola website with the phone connected to my PC at the time (as per a previous post here) so not sure if the notification is arriving OTA. However, I've downloaded directly to the phone over WiFi (363MB). Currently churning through the app upgrades

Today i got update via OTA for xt1021. I'm from Poland

Gonna have to root methinks and Link2SD... Next to no internal storage left after updating the stock apps following a factory reset after updating to 5.1. Ho hum.

Got the update notification this morn, UK moto e xt1021.

Same here. I thought one of the benefits of lollipop was that you COULD move apps to the SD card without rooting though?

[DOWNLOAD] Updates for MotorolaOTA and other Moto Apps (Jan 19)

Just got a little surprise when I woke up today. Checked my notifications and Pushbullet had advised about some new apps posted in APKMirror. The most important of all is an update for MotorolaOTA, which probably means they're going to do a major rollout of Lollipop soon. Hopefully.
Here are the the links for downloading the apps. The website is safe, by the way. I'm installing everything right now, it's all working as it should.
Motorola Gallery 304100
Motorola Camera 5.0.7.1
Motorola Help 1.4.32
Motorola Update Services 7.0.1
Motorola Contextual Services 5.18.063
Motorola Migrate 1.6.0.30
Moto 2.2.8 (NOT INSTALLING)

I'm using a XT1063 on Brazil. No updates so far as of 11am local time. I can't even wait anymore.
I'm using a XT1068, Brazil também.
I installed the Camera, Contextual Services and the Motorola Update Services, no update yet. =/
Hopefully we'll get it still this week.

I believe its something about OTAs, because they updated the same service before rolling the first soak test for 5.0
Just so you know, if you don´t mind having your bootloader unlocked, you can have the oficial OTA right now.
Moto app is not installing because it's only for Moto X.
Hopefully these updates mean that there'll be a major rollout in the next few days.

I see they've updated camera apk.
Maybe camera api v2?

Is it the same version as the twrp backups? I'm on 5.0.2 restored from a twrp backup...
No. The link i posted is for the oficial OTA, requires stock firmware and stock recovery.
Its not a twrp backup.
Been using it for almost 2 days now and só far so good.
Battery is lasting a lot longer than it was in the 5.0 twrp backup i was using before.

Does anyone received the updates through Play Store?
I received update to Motorola migrate in Google play store. I'm from Poland
Send by Moto G2 xt1068
I also received, but only for Motorola Migrate. I am from Germany. The other apps haven't received an update yet.
I don't think so,, they have updated it for compatibility isusses and little bit graphics change ,its all due for global moto Lolipop release .,, as far as Moto G camera 2 api ,, it doesn't and willnot support many features of camera 2 API,, there other application like L Camera and Manual camera don't support Moto G even with 5.0.2

How long until the images start rolling out usually?
I've already filled the SurveyMonkey's survey, and I'm waiting for further steps.. How long did it take them to send you the email with the installation details?
Seems it takes a couple of days for them to collect data and devices from the survey, and then they send it.

I'm wondering how long it will take VZW to roll out the official update when it hits. They were pretty good about 5.0 on the 2nd gen though, they were one of the first to get it if I'm not mistaken.

I think unofficial will be out sooner 1-2 week/s.
edit: It looks like they're throwing away the bloatware, that could mean that we will get M very soon.
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/108264
I think we will get it sooner than we got 5.0.2, the device has a little more than 1 year, and Motorola has been planning to take us directly to 6.0 for a while, thats why we didn´t get 5.1.1. It wouldn't make sense to buiId a new rom and 2 or 3 months later do it again.
Generally, Motorola devices will probably get the update sooner than before because there are some features that they will not implant like they said on official site.
I also think that Moto g 2014 will be one of the first to get the update, since Moto G 2015 and new Moto X's already have 5.1.1 out of the box, so they can wait a little bit more.
What is happening is exactly like Moto G 2013:
-they got the 5.1.1 earlier straight from KK, but they won't get 6.0;
-we will get 6.0 earlier straight from 5.0.2 but will not get further updates, at least more than 6.0.x or so.
Anyway, if it comes before December it would be awesome, but we must keep waiting, at least for the official rom.

Didn't work for me, but my device is encrypted. I'll try removing the encryption and trying again.
EDIT: Actually, no I won't. Best case scenario is that I get a rom that is incapable of performing any cell phone functions. Not worth it just to see what the 6.0.1 update looks like.
Restored only SYSTEM and BOOT, got into the startup pages and it reboots. Several times. Now it's hung up on the "Just a sec...", and suddenly lost cellular connectivity...
UPDATE:
Okay...got into the device (it took several taps back and forth), but I can't enable wifi at all. It reboots the phone. And 4G/cellular connectivity is flakey: it drops off frequently and only re-seating the SIM card brings it back.
HIGHLY unstable, IMO.
Wifi doesnt work on Droid Turbo with brasil 5.0.2 too, i tried 22.34.13 and 22.34.16 versions.
Here's to hoping we can port this quickly!

Moto Maxx XT1225 for Brazil or any country has had 5.0.2 since April 2015, a year ago. Moto Turbo XT1225 has had 5.02 since March 2015.
You never upgraded your XT1225 to Lollipop 5.0.2 from 4.4.4 KitKat?
We also have had 5.1.1 custom ROMs since last year and now we already have Marshmallow custom ROMs for a couple of months now if you want Marshmallow...

Also, looking at the date of the first post this is the soak test for Brazil, not the official OTA. Motorola has still NOT released official Marshmallow stock ROM for any Quark.

Soak Test #3 ended up being the the one Motorola will release as factory image. Right now you still have to install as Soak Test as they have not made the download link available apparently. This is only for the XT1225.
Also, while Chop Chop was in Soak Test #1 they removed it for Soak Test #2 and Soak Test #3. Still available in Marshmallow custom ROMs like CM13 and Resurrection Remix.
The author of this thread below even made TWRP backups of the various soak tests. If you are on the XT1254/XT1250, for informational purposes only as it's for the XT1225.

It's for informational purposes as one of the two Quarks (two different FCC IDs) released under three model names has stock Marshmallow. Whatever is in that one will show up in the others, if/whenever released. For instance, the Chop Chop a lot of people seem to love was removed in the final version. The new Lenovo/Motorola apparently things it's silly. However, still available in custom Marshmallow ROMs like CM13/Resurrection Remix.

Software update notification just received

Just got a software update notification on my G5. I don't see any version number or details, anyone else get the notification?
I just got it, did the update, and was wondering the same. I was hoping to get a surprise android 7 update. I guess it would be too much to ask for LG or any manufacturer to release an update with an android version released 6 months ago.
The one good thing I can say about apple. When they release an update it gets pushed out. They dont let the manufacture and then the carrier finger f#%^ it for a year before making it available.
AT&T update also
I also just got the update, in fact it's still installing ... Phone nows says Android Version 6.0.1, Kernel 3.18.20, Build MMB29M Software version H82011n ... no idea yet what is different
I just got the notification. I'm not installing it as long as the phone doesn't forcefeed it, that last H82011K buggered my phone pretty bad and it gives me flashbacks of bootloops and factory resets now when an update pops up.

It's only too bad Nougat is so greedy for battery. Look at that - 37 minutes screen on and I'm down to 48% left. Awful.
Not worth the upgrade IMO.

1.) Return to the USA, power down your phone and insert your active AT&T Sim card.
2.) Power your phone on and then go to settings>general>about phone>software update.
3.) Press "update now" and wait for update to finish.
Since you aren't yet on the H82011N firmware, you will have to repeat step 2-3 until you are on H82011N, before you can finally update to Nougat, which is H82020J.
:good:
Can anyone here provide an OTA file for the Nougat update?

I've been looking for a way to capture the actual file myself. Apparently it's impossible for the AT&T G5 because the bootloader is locked and no root is possible, which would be necessary to intercept and copy the actual OTA file.
These problems directly stem from the fact that AT&T will never release a KDZ or TOT for us because they're evil, and ultimately don't want their clients to gain root and potentially extend the life of their phone hardware via 3rd party Roms like CyanogenMod.
Since I am not a developer I am curious whether you can make anything that would for us with the nougat source code for the h820?
